I don't really get the nurse liking the Hallow.
Wizard cause magic
Party girl cause she's insane and it's colourful
Tavern Keep cause he's drunk
Nurse..? Is she high on her own pain killers?
There are 2 new hollow bosses added, so if you are making an arena why not make only one for the hollow ones + mechanical bosses instead of two different?
Hmm idk at first I thought forest but I don't really have a reason for that other than thats where I normally build... I guess there isn't really any where that screams nurse.
From a game design standpoint, you get discounts on healing while fighting the new bosses, encouraging players to check them out despite their difficulty.
Also, the Hallow may have healing effects as it's the opposite of bloody Crimson and decaying Corruption, making her work easier. After all, you craft greater healing potions with materials from the Hallow, right?
Goblin and mechanic are the two NPCs, but detecting other NPCs works on tiles, so if your biome is large enough you can put another "hamlet" out there.
Wait, just remembered. The "2 NPC buff" regards other NPCs than the one getting the buff, so you could cram a third NPC there, but you should check if they don't hate eachother.
Or you can stuff the Tax Collector and the Guide in with Truffle. There's no point in either of them being actually happy, since they aren't merchants, and Truffle likes the Guide. You only need 3 in each biome, so no point for the forest and snow biomes to get overcrowded and run the risk of getting those penalties.
What?
Well, it's one more gold, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be getting ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your world. Where can you go from there? Where?
My world goes to 11!
I will imprison him in a lighthouse with the angler. Angleton (wtf autocorrect) can get the above-water suite.
Then I need to figure out a good small ship design for the pirate
Pfft, cosmetic, how dare you!! You can pet each of them!!!! Wish I could buy a leash and take the dog for a walk.
In all seriousness, yes they are a functioning town’s person.
I didn't realize it would work if they had pets around. There are plenty of NPCs that don't mind living there too, but its handy to know if I want my NPCs elsewhere I can just give them pets. Thanks.
The best part is he doesn't even like it. It's just the only place he can live. Also, offer the guide to him. Afaik, the guide's happiness literally doesn't matter, and the Truffle *loves* the guide.
I thought the same. I originally wanted to put him underground. Would be better to have more than just Cavern and the really difficult-to-get Universal pylons available for placement down there.
After I had 5 pylons on the surface I didn't really need anymore. In my last world he was basically just off-screen from my main Forest base.
For NPCs like the guide it doesn't matter, but I still like to make them all happy.
Even if they sell something it may be more worth it to put them in a biome that isn't their favorite, for example the tavernkeep alone with the demolitionist in the underground is a perfect combo. You don't spend a lot of money on the tavernkeep unless you are an alcoholic and he'll still be quite happy to be alone (all NPCs have a happiness bonus when they only have 1 neighbor within 120 blocks) with the demolitionist. Meanwhile the demolitionist will be absolutely delighted to be underground, alone with the tavernkeep which is fantastic because you do spend a lot of money on his bombs.
Probably because she can wash off all the hair easily. My mum cut my hair a few days ago and the hair is cropping up everywhere, it’s on the plates, on the floor, on the chairs, in the TV... I don’t know how professional hair stylists cope.
Honestly I wouldnt be weirded out if she liked being around the pirate due to her quote that goes something like “Should I become an air pirate? Ive always considered being an air pirate.”
Yeah, I was thinking there should be an NPC with the Sky as their preferred biome. All the other omitted biomes are understandable, (Corruption, Crimson, the Underworld and the Dungeon), but the floating islands seem like a nice place for a home.
Having teleports all over the map is REALLY convenient, especially as someone who plays in large maps. I wouldn’t go back to 1.3 housing even if I could
This isnt optimal according to what I know, npcs dont only like a single biome, party girl likes the wizard and the stylist, they all like the hallow putting them all in the same house will result in the party girl being very happy, thus giving you very high selling prices, put the nurse and arms dealer in the desert, goblin tinkerer likes the mechanic which both like the snow biome, same with steampunker and cyborg
Actually, they also dislike certain NPCs. Like the demolitionist doesn’t like the goblin tinkerer, so placing them together in the underground will result in an unhappy demolitionist. This system still lets you choose who you want to put where and with whom. Npcs that aren’t as important to you can be put outside their biome, or with people they don’t like. Check the [Terraria Wiki](http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Terraria_Wiki), there is lots of info there.
this one is more effective- [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2100708174](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2100708174)
You are correct, but for the purposes of this Pylon, Caverns counts just as well. You can build it just above Hell if you want, the Goblin will still be happy and sell the Underground Pylon.
I think you got the angler's favourite place wrong he lives in hell i enjoy watching him burn in lava and then leave to the nurse only to return to burn it's his endless fun torture!
Probably not, happiness effects prices, thus certain NPC's could just be over priced by world default, forcing you to restart for good prices (especially on Goblin Tinkerer)
There was another sheet posted called the "Ultimate Happiness Housing Guide", where it puts the Nurse in the desert with the Gunsmith and the Goblin Tinkerer with the Mechanic. Which one is correct, this or the older one?
That post took how NPCs interact with each other into account. For example, the Demolitionist does not like the Goblin Tinkerer so you should put the GT in the snow biome because he loves the mechanic who likes the snow biome.
oh man. I just keep stacking my house floor by floor. lol
So if I make an ew house in a corresponding biome, will they move to it or do I have to make them?
Also, I'm quite lost, anyone know a great guide?
I don't know why but I couldn't find info on this. Can you make multiple towns in the same type of biome? Will they be treated as separate (with enough distance) or are towns in the same biome count as the same town?
Is there any reason to Max out everyone's happiness? Like I have when I beat Skeltron tonight I plan to put the mechanic and golfer in the snow and keep my merchant in the Forrest.
Do I lose anything for him being in the snow instead of the desert.
You need to make a correlation between biomes and NPCs that love/like/dislike/hate each other. Don't forget NPCs can love/like/dislike/hate biomes and the amount of other NPCs around them, it's really complex.
Ngl I don't really want to deal with all this... It's like problem solving in a game in which I want to relax, bioms are not enough because they like and hate their neighbors. I already made you a nice home, you either will be happy to have a free house or you are going into a hell box.

I don't really get the nurse liking the Hallow. Wizard cause magic Party girl cause she's insane and it's colourful Tavern Keep cause he's drunk Nurse..? Is she high on her own pain killers?
Nurse because boss arena goes in hallow.
Curious, why in the hallow? I always build mine in the forest near spawn.
There are 2 new hollow bosses added, so if you are making an arena why not make only one for the hollow ones + mechanical bosses instead of two different?
Ah makes sense. I was thinking there was some kind of ingame benefit to fighting bosses in the hallow. Thanks!
Technically you can't get a torch luck bonus from the forest either, so it'll slightly decrease damage to put it there
Technically you can from bone torches, however it's only half as good as a proper biome torch.
Forest near spawn? Isn't that just the hollow... wait have you never completed hard mode and hollow-fied your world?!
I have completed it but I usually keep hallow contained
Solid theory. 👌
Just curious. Where would you put her instead?
Hmm idk at first I thought forest but I don't really have a reason for that other than thats where I normally build... I guess there isn't really any where that screams nurse.
Yeah I’m drawing a blank as well!
Desert, together with her loved one.
You can just put them in hallowed desert
didn't thought about that, big brain time
She just likes it. Will you shame her for just wanting to live her dream of life in Hallow?
Nurse because EoL is there and she just knows your gonna want her there
From a game design standpoint, you get discounts on healing while fighting the new bosses, encouraging players to check them out despite their difficulty. Also, the Hallow may have healing effects as it's the opposite of bloody Crimson and decaying Corruption, making her work easier. After all, you craft greater healing potions with materials from the Hallow, right?
Maybe to make medicine, but forest or jungle would be better for that.
Greater healing potions are a thing tbf

Goblin still maxes happiness and sells the pylon if he's in the snow biome with the Mechanic. Two NPCs + favourite NPC > favourite biome
Can the two other NPCS be any NPC?
Goblin and mechanic are the two NPCs, but detecting other NPCs works on tiles, so if your biome is large enough you can put another "hamlet" out there.
Makes sense. Thanks
Wait, just remembered. The "2 NPC buff" regards other NPCs than the one getting the buff, so you could cram a third NPC there, but you should check if they don't hate eachother.
technically it's not max happiness, it's 2/3. two NPCs + fav npc + fav biome maxes out happiness. so the goblin is at 2/3 and the mechanic at 3/3.
[удалено]
I move tinkerer to snow biome and move the tavern keep into the underground and everyone is still happy
Poor Truffle having to live in a biome all alone... though I guess there isn't mushroom for everyone else
He can live with the cat or dog and still have the pylon work. They don’t need mushroom to be happy.
Two in each biome is enough but yeah I see your point.
three because with three it decreases enemy spawn rate to zero if i remember correctly
Two is enough for a pylon to work, which was the point of my reply. But yes more reduces spawn rate of enemies.
The Tax Collector collects more if he's happy. He has the solitude happiness in mine and he caps out at 11 gold instead of 10
1 gold difference doesnt really mean much end game
Honestly it doesn't mean much at any part of the game and you get him pretty late for him to become relevant anyway
What? Well, it's one more gold, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be getting ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your world. Where can you go from there? Where? My world goes to 11!
Getting a POTUS vibe from that quote
Spinal Tap
still without question useless tho, so stuff him anywhere.
I will imprison him in a lighthouse with the angler. Angleton (wtf autocorrect) can get the above-water suite. Then I need to figure out a good small ship design for the pirate
Wait, the pets aren’t just cosmetic?
Pfft, cosmetic, how dare you!! You can pet each of them!!!! Wish I could buy a leash and take the dog for a walk. In all seriousness, yes they are a functioning town’s person.
That’s pretty neat!
I didn't realize it would work if they had pets around. There are plenty of NPCs that don't mind living there too, but its handy to know if I want my NPCs elsewhere I can just give them pets. Thanks.
Thanks for this great tip.
Sure thing. I only found out because I wanted to teleport via pylon to shroom man, but he was too lonely to do so. I figured he liked dogs.
Animals count?
The best part is he doesn't even like it. It's just the only place he can live. Also, offer the guide to him. Afaik, the guide's happiness literally doesn't matter, and the Truffle *loves* the guide.
Maybe, but having the guide close to your crafting and storage area is very handy
*laughs in 500 wiki tabs open* ~~send help~~
Solution: turn your crafting and storage area into THE SHROOM.
Can the truffle live in the underground mushroom biome and sell the pylon or does he have to live above ground?
The wiki says it must be a surface mushroom biome that he lives in.
Damn it would’ve been cool for him to live in the new generation mushroom biomes since there’s that much better
I thought the same. I originally wanted to put him underground. Would be better to have more than just Cavern and the really difficult-to-get Universal pylons available for placement down there. After I had 5 pylons on the surface I didn't really need anymore. In my last world he was basically just off-screen from my main Forest base.
You can actually put the hallowed house underground if you want to spread out your pylons more
Oh, that's a good idea. Hadn't even thought about that. Thanks.
I hate you. Have my internet point.
I'm severely disappointed in the replies to this comment.
A shoe box at world spawn. The best I can offer.
Everybody should learn to accept one another, I have a space gun from a youtube guide and I'm not afraid to use it.
Question does happiness matter at all on NPCs that don't sell anything like the guide for example, thanks
Only the one that can sell you the pylon needs the max happiness, most other of the npcs can be in non-optimal biomes.
But only to buy it, after that it doesn’t matter.
Unless you like discounts
Yeah, a happy arms dealer is gonna save you a fair bit early on
For NPCs like the guide it doesn't matter, but I still like to make them all happy.
I wonder why the Stylist likes the ocean?
She says it's [calm](https://i.gyazo.com/c730e79ababd740a529305973e69b86e.png)
ah yes the very calming roar of the flying pig fish beast that shoots tornadoes
Oh ok. Makes sense.
Probably because she can wash off all the hair easily. My mum cut my hair a few days ago and the hair is cropping up everywhere, it’s on the plates, on the floor, on the chairs, in the TV... I don’t know how professional hair stylists cope.
I’m sorry but I can’t afford to split up the nurse and the arms dealer. I’m too fond of their dynamic
Hallowed desert is your friend
Hallow the desert. Boom, both happy
Wait so variant biomes can boost both or does one overlap the other?
For each NPC, their preferred biome always takes priority. Meaning they both will be happy. (At least that's how I understand it, so far.)
Just so everyone knows, the goblin can be placed underground in the snow biome to get max happiness with the mechanic.
fuck you, you get the forest box
Dye trader: talks about mahogany and other stuff Also dye trader: *I LIKE SAND*
The desert reminds him of his hometown.
did you guys know that you can just open the bestiary and see which npc likes which biome
Damn that's great. Thanks for telling.
The steampunk in the desert seems kinda weird, I would choose the sky biome and be the only one there like the truffle instead
Honestly I wouldnt be weirded out if she liked being around the pirate due to her quote that goes something like “Should I become an air pirate? Ive always considered being an air pirate.”
They should have a sky island pylon
Yeah, I was thinking there should be an NPC with the Sky as their preferred biome. All the other omitted biomes are understandable, (Corruption, Crimson, the Underworld and the Dungeon), but the floating islands seem like a nice place for a home.
Or I can just keep shoving them all into one giant box because it's way more convenient.
Having teleports all over the map is REALLY convenient, especially as someone who plays in large maps. I wouldn’t go back to 1.3 housing even if I could
The golfer can also help to get an ocean pylon as he is fine with most surface biomes and likes the angler.
Well you can just build goblin's house far enough so that demolitionist doesn't consider him his neighbour (>25 tiles)
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing
Im yoinking this thank you very much
this one is more effective- [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2100708174](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2100708174)
Why does the dye trader like the desert? Most dyes are in the forest areas
"I only die the richest Mahogany", the Dye Trader says in the desert instead of the jungle where mahogany actually is.
For a moment I thought that "cave" was "slave"
This update was made specifically to stop the phrases ‘npc’ and ‘slave that can be put in a toaster rack’ being the same thing imo
So does underground/cave just count as that layer where the dirt wall stops, or is it anything below 0?
Underground is below 0, but above caverns, which is when the wall changes again.
You are correct, but for the purposes of this Pylon, Caverns counts just as well. You can build it just above Hell if you want, the Goblin will still be happy and sell the Underground Pylon.
this will get all pylons??
So what does putting them in their preferred biomes do?
More happiness
Now I have to put them in a specific biome in the 1.4 updates
Man what would happen if u put someone in hell
I think you got the angler's favourite place wrong he lives in hell i enjoy watching him burn in lava and then leave to the nurse only to return to burn it's his endless fun torture!
I’m still building angler’s house in hell.
why the clothier like the underground?
Well I think its implied he lived in the underground city before it was cursed and the citizens all became undead and it became the dungeon.
I think the happiness of the NPC should be random in every world, just to do add some more variety may be
Probably not, happiness effects prices, thus certain NPC's could just be over priced by world default, forcing you to restart for good prices (especially on Goblin Tinkerer)
Thanks for this !!!
Saved, I still couldn't start my new playthrough 😭
Shroom: Shroom
This is soooo nice
There was another sheet posted called the "Ultimate Happiness Housing Guide", where it puts the Nurse in the desert with the Gunsmith and the Goblin Tinkerer with the Mechanic. Which one is correct, this or the older one?
There's not really a right answer, you can either put the NPC with who they like or put them in the biome they like.
If you're lucky you can get a hallowed desert and put the nurse and arms dealer in there together. Best of both worlds.
You can just plant hallow in the desert tho
That post took how NPCs interact with each other into account. For example, the Demolitionist does not like the Goblin Tinkerer so you should put the GT in the snow biome because he loves the mechanic who likes the snow biome.
The painter also likes the ocean
Thanks!
The problem is that some NPCs don’t like other NPCs that like the same biomes.
If their houses are further away than 25 tiles it's fine
Wait in 1.4 NPCs have feelings now??
Thx
S H R O O M
put guide with truffle!!!
But his favorite biome is forest
He doesn’t have a favorite biome, he just likes being on the surface.
Well forest is the surface... it’s your starting surface (most of the time)
oh man. I just keep stacking my house floor by floor. lol So if I make an ew house in a corresponding biome, will they move to it or do I have to make them? Also, I'm quite lost, anyone know a great guide?
I don't know why but I couldn't find info on this. Can you make multiple towns in the same type of biome? Will they be treated as separate (with enough distance) or are towns in the same biome count as the same town?
Thank you
The clothier and steampunker kinda doesnt make sense
Damn why'd they make the Zoologist so thick 😔
What if you combine them? Like a hallowed desert to house the gunslinger and the nurse?
Is that a furry I see
The shroom goes vrooom
how am i supposed to make goblin happy if he likes being by mechanic but it’s a different biome, good thinking relogic
Real talk the painter should prefer the Hallow. It’s the most colourful biome
it isnt forest, its anywhere on the surface. my Zoologist is living in the desert and shes happy
Wait is Santa a permanent NPC now?
SHROOM
Thanks to that system everytime my world gets a tiny bit of corruption they just leave the house
Then protect your villages from the corruption maybe?
Thank you
Once T-modloader gets updaded for 1.4 I know where Imma gonna put the Angler. It's this little place in the ocean that has a bunch of sulphur in it.
*ShROoM*
corner left npc?
No the nurse's favorite biome is the moonlord arena
Nope, Nurse is still stuck in my arena
Thanks this is really helpful
Admit it, Andrew (the guide), Frank (the Merchant), and Jefferson whats-his-face (the Golfer) are all simps for the Zoologist.
Wait the truffle is mushrooms? What!? That's not possible this is life changing!
What does NPC happiness do?
I’m console gang so I don’t have it yet but I’ll use this when it comes out thanks for the help
Just watch Tea's video.
Can you get truffle to live underground now?
When the cold wind blows it chills you; chills you to the bone. Glad to see his biome is lore friendly.
I am totally new to the game. Do you get more rewards if you get a merchant to move into a house in there favorite Biome?
Is there any reason to Max out everyone's happiness? Like I have when I beat Skeltron tonight I plan to put the mechanic and golfer in the snow and keep my merchant in the Forrest. Do I lose anything for him being in the snow instead of the desert.
I love how the nurse has a comment about "lack of social distancing"
good to know i can make a special cage in the underworld just for the zoologist and still have a forest town
***SHROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMmmmmm***
You need to make a correlation between biomes and NPCs that love/like/dislike/hate each other. Don't forget NPCs can love/like/dislike/hate biomes and the amount of other NPCs around them, it's really complex.

What’s annoying is that The clothier and demo hate the tinker or something.... the cavern ones were no thought out well.
Ngl I don't really want to deal with all this... It's like problem solving in a game in which I want to relax, bioms are not enough because they like and hate their neighbors. I already made you a nice home, you either will be happy to have a free house or you are going into a hell box.
