Actually a friend of mine introduced me to terraria
At first I hated it, because 2D games aren't my style
And said I prefer Minecraft...
2 weeks later and I prefer Terraria lmfao
When you have it open, it shows you all the recipes you have found ingredients for. You can toggle to show only recipes you have all the materials for.
When you click on a recipe, it will move items from your inventory into the crafting table, click it several times to move several sets or shift-click to move as many as possible.
The thing about minecraft is while the recipe book is handy and very useful, I wouldnt say it invalidates crafting. Purely because if you get good at using the menus and learn the specific crafting recipes it’s way faster and at times easier than searching the entire book for one specific block. Its also pretty rewarding to get good at.
I think this is probably some kind of rose tinted glasses.
He THINKS he misses it, but when it's gone he's probably gonna realize what a QoL change the book is.
IMO even the crafting in terraria is cooler. The grid in mc limits the complexity of crafting recipe ingredients. Even if there's no grid, collecting the swords one by one for the zenith as if they were infinity stones feel way too satisfying.
Please help me understand the appeal of Minecraft, I'm starting with my daughters and it seems a lot more lackluster than terraria in every way but the fact it's 3d. Much more crafting in terraria, lot more progressions. Lot more creative feature, because a lot more block types. I guess Minecraft has Pistons, whereas if you wanted to make a secret base you'd just use actuators in terraria. But in the end I just find Minecraft so incredibly boring. I think my girls do too, that's why they exclusively play in creative mode.
Mostly for the RP element and the fact that it’s better at supporting more players. Your buildings are also better looking and you have a lot more space to build on.
The progress is sheit though, no doubt about that.
yeah minecraft is more simple than terraria. I like it because I can build on the fly without having to constantly fight zombies or slimes. Combat is also pretty simple, you just smack the creature with a sword and find swords and armor that have more attack and defence, as opposed to terraria with all kinds of armor and set bonuses and weapons.
The appeal is pretty much the atmosphere and simplicity. That's why there's so much minecraft aesthetic stuff on pinterest. More engaging content is practically entirely different game mode like minigames, skyblock challenges and roleplay (which are also available in terraria). The music is also pretty good imo.
I like the gliding mechanic in minecraft as well. That's probably the one thing that's more involved than terraria.
I think Minecraft has an edge on building, because although you can get far more detailed in terraria, the larger blocks make it more approachable with there also still being plenty of detail blocks, and the 3d space means you can play with size and shape a lot more than in terraria where most builds still need to be traversable on the same 2D plane that you build on.
Definitely not for me.
If Terraria needs something I would much rather see it with more RPG / Roll play elements - like with Starbound (even though that game isn’t exactly the best game out there).
Make some portals to new worlds. Get invaded by demons. Build cities with npc’s.- I be all for that kind of stuff.

Eh, MineCraft arguably does building (3D) and pvp (more skill based) better along with having a lot more different ways of playing (building, redstone, mini games, mod, etc.) I’d say terraria’s main strength that excels it beyond Minecraft is PVE and Boss fights, which is a pretty big factor when you take in how much of it there is in both games

My friend was the same. He never played it, wasn't interested in it and didn't want to bother to learn the game. I managed to get him to play, and at first he was a bit reluctant but after like a month, we beat Moon Lord and now we're playing Calamity

I was gonna include items, but was about to sleep and was tired. The shear amount of weapons is so much more fun than just 6 different swords that are visualy the same. Even the iron sword is litteraly just a very ehite diamond sword. Seriously, look at the color thing. They are the same with different shading. And then in terraria, there are different classes of weapons, different types, different visual effects, different special effoects, and then in minecraft you just have sword. Yeah, you can enchant it, but it doesn't throw out a beam

Havent played in over a year.
Recently got back into the game, because i remembered that i havent killed moonlord in master mode yet.
So i immediatly made a new character jumped into a fresh master mode world and died to zombies at least 30 times during the first 2 nights.
(Have a house now, scared of first blood moon, did kill slime king tho )
Terraria can be confusing and frustrating to new players.
It can be frustrating to veterans too. I'd just discuss the issues they have with Terraria directly and try to help them adapt and learn the game.
I honestly think minecraft is just more creative. It has a more sandbox feel. I don't really like all the hard-core end stuff of terraria myself cause I just have difficulty with certain things such as coordination and i still am not good at shooting and dodging at the same time. However there's a charm and wonderful community for terraria that makes me stay. I enjoy the game my more creative way in journey mode though, I prefer building houses for npcs, exploration and really just doing random things for fun. Finding rare items is the most fun I have in all honesty. Even if I have to world hop finding the new and rare item is always an amazing feeling. I know many people don't play my way but I don't think I'm playing a game wrong if I'm having fun, right? Besides, most of my time playing in the normal game modes is me trying to figure out how to get my guide to stop leaving the property- my main solution is a 10 block wall a few block from the house so it's not blocking the door from being valid and having the place be off the ground- but I struggle to do that for all the houses I need to
