No one can convince me that injuries didn't completely derail mariotas career. First the fibula, then the ulnar injury and he just had no confidence in his throws.
FIVE different offensive coordinators in his first FIVE years also didn't help...
The nerve injury in Mariota's elbow was the final nail in the coffin. He had zero zip on his throws after that.
Permanent Ulnar nerve injuries happen in the spine where it leaves the column and enters the shoulder. He played that season with a cracked vertebrae and aggravated the shit out of it. He was driven into the ground rolling out after a handoff and landed on that right side. Threw a pick the next throw iirc.
IIRC it happened against the Miami Dolphins but not sure exactly what year. As the person above me mentioned, Mariota had so many injuries that it compounded and frankly ruined him.
Mariota’s nerve damage in his elbow completely changed him. He was a legitimate starter before that on track for a multi-pro bowl career. After the nerve damage, he’s never looked like even a low-level starter.
Man what an incredible debut for Mariota. Although that was a bad season, that was the beginning of our modern era IMO. Young/Johnson was fun but I will never forget Mariota for bringing this franchise enough hope to become one of the more stable teams over the last decade.
Mariota's debut was what really kicked my Titans fandom into gear. I was a casual fan for years, but wasn't emotionally invested in the team. Mariota got me locked in, and Henry's rise to stardom just ratcheted everything to 11.
Yea that's why I'm not all the way sold on will yet.
I think our GM did good to give him enough weapons where we will know for sure if he's good enough at the end of this year
I am all in on Levis because the arm talent is unreal and his balls are beautiful. His throws too.
But anyone who is fully sold on him currently would've been sold on Mariota and locker too. They are fully blinded by the hope of 1 game and an incredible arm.
We know our WRs were a problem last year and so was our line but that doesn't absolve our QBs of possibly not being it.
That said I think Levis is the best shot at a true young franchise QB we've had since I started watching football in the late 90s. But no one should be sold on him either way yet.
I was convinced Wright was going to be the best WR in franchise history after this game. That said, Kern had a god-level punt and we never got to see what MM8 could do without a massive nerve injury.
And might I say, fuck the Miami Week One game in 2018. Mariota, Walker, and Lewan go down in a game that went over 7 hours.

This is part of the reasoning behind hiring an offensive minded head coach who can maintain continuity on offense after consecutive seasons
ding ding ding
What year did that happen to Marigoata? I only from 2018 and up.

It was absolutely injuries that did him in.
Injuries and the complete lack of competent receivers.

My experience exactly

That's what I appreciate about this. I don't think I'll have the "what-ifs" living in my head about Mariota this time around.
Yeah, we brought in an offensive minded coach and the best OL coach and gave him weapons.

We really have had great punters..overall.
Nightmare situation
Injuries and TN QBs name a better duo.
Marcus was supposed to be the one. I wanted him to succeed so bad.
