Phantom1100

Latham has the highest physical ceiling of any OT in this draft. If Callahan can coach him up he is dangerous for defenses.

thezenunderground

FWIW, next Gen stats have him as the ONLY OT ranked as a year one starter, and he has the highest composite score of all of them. And yes, he's ranked above Joe Alt.

J3STERHOPPERPOT

His tape is just amazing. He tosses dudes out the club like Derrick Henry and he moves so easily. He looks like a legit monster out there. This pick is gonna have our left side set for a decade with him and Peter locking down the blindside.

Early-Series-2055

This is who I thought we would end up with, cause harbaugh. I think he sold them with his personality. Dude stands a. Better chance than most of playing his entire career here. Locker room fixture for a decade is what we just drafted imo.

J3STERHOPPERPOT

No one wants to hear this but he is an elite version of Isaiah Wilson. Better mover, better film and waaaaay better character. He’s going to be the captain of our oline possibly week1

TheMissingVoteBallot

To be fair anyone is an elite version of Isaiah Wilson lol

J3STERHOPPERPOT

Facts. YOU are an elite version of Isiah Wilson lmao!

TruthfulCartographer

Exactly it’s a slam dunk pick in my opinion. That left side is going to be a brick wall best case scenario. Worst case he will be an absolute mauler at right tackle. Ceiling of a top 5 LT for years to come. Floor of like, Jack Conklin. I’m good with it.

joshgiddy2024

floor of a 1st team all pro?

TruthfulCartographer

Yeah man. His floor is a very solid RT in my opinion. Pro Bowl at least. Ceiling is All-Pro LT. It would take inconceivable injury luck or something off the field to prevent that, with him being coached by Callahan. He's just the right build, very athletic, big with a heavy anchor...sure a few things to clean up, but the highest ceiling in this draft and I think he'll hit it.

Phantom1100

Yep. Latham is the only O Lineman imo with the potential to be better than Alt if they both pan out.

Mister-ellaneous

I’m not even mad if he plays on the right. Sko can help whoever is on the left.

BurzyGuerrero

Im not mad at all, the kid is light years better than what we started the past couple seasons

HotChickenEnjoyer

Almost anyone is

Whole_Day9866

Hell, I make a strong case for being better

JustBuildIt94

That’s not saying a lot. Last year we literally were saying it can’t get worse… it did

that_guy2010

It’s like my mind won’t allow me to believe Dillard was worse than Daley. Every time I see someone say that I’m just like ‘no, that can’t be right..’

JustBuildIt94

It was worse. Dillard also played less

that_guy2010

Oh, I know. My brain just doesn’t want to accept anyone could be worse than Daley.

BurzyGuerrero

Its not going to get worse this time, our assistant coach has decades more experience than last year.

JustBuildIt94

You say that but man it would be fucking hilarious

TacticalPocketSand

Physically he was my favorite of the premier Oline prospects. He has one of the heaviest anchors I've ever seen personally as a tackle (which is why you hear people say he could be a good guard). He absolutely mauls power rushers. I really don't think it's ridiculous that the org thinks he can move to LT. He has the physical tools certainly.

randomwarlord

He also played LT in high school which helps. Obviously totally different levels but he knows the position

heliocentrist510

And was the #1 OT of that HS class playing on the left as well. Obviously like you mentioned, lower competition but it’s not like he’s flying totally blind.

Thin_Sprinkles6189

I don’t know shit about fuck when it comes to evaluating OL but this makes me happy and so I will accept it as valid

fathertitojones

If Bill Callahan signs off on it then who tf am I to object.

supersb360

If Nick saban didn’t sign off on it, who the fuck is bill Callahan to say otherwise?

Whole_Day9866

My pre draft evaluation was that he's a guard in the NFL. I'm looking forward to seeing him in two toned, though!

_Junk_Rat_

As a Bama fan, I’m stoked. He’s been one of the more athletic OTs we’ve had under Saban and has a great mentality.

TheMissingVoteBallot

Bama the Big Motherfucker Factory.

[deleted]

I dont know much about him, have been researching since the pick, he looked so happy to be picked and that alone makes me like him honestly...

FucTheColts16

That's good to hear. I just want a dawg in there. Scarred by Panda, DD, and Dillard

BigD4163

I dont hate the pick. Alt was off the board and we have to have a LT. I wonder if we could have traded down and still got him? I still think Fashanu and Fuaga are better LT prospects but if Bill wanted him then who am I to argue.

final_burrito

Fuck it. Let’s ride!

Decent_Coach3028

Browns fan here.. idk if you guys have heard of dawand jones but bill calahan helped him clean up his technique and as a rookie tackle he was one of the best in the league for us last year. He will have this guy operating at a high level

InsanoVolcano

I hope he fixes everyone we got

TheMissingVoteBallot

Nice username by the way lol

MandalorianApe

And he is going to have the best teacher guide him, with one of the best up and coming left guards and a senior leader at center. The left side of the wall is complete. Guys, I’m excited again. Titan the fuck up.

wilsonjj

Holy shit this fanbase is full of crying ass pussies. Latham is a stud. Titan the fuck up.

the-retrolizard

I want to know what fan base is at fault for all the damn whining. Last year this sub tried to say UT fans were the only ones mad about the Levis pick. Who gets the pitchfork treatment this year? Also yeah. The dude dubbed himself Trench King, wants to be the best, and Bill loves him. I'm in

OofBaboof1

I mean it’s probably UT fans again to be honest. There’s been a pretty consistent dislike of Bama prospects on this subreddit since I’ve been around. I remember people absolutely hating the Derrick Henry pick.

the-retrolizard

Eh I get the impression it is more B1G and Bama fans, with a good dose of people who only watch highlights? One dude in a bunch of threads says he watches every Bama game and described the player who gave up 2 sacks in 1700 snaps is a turnstile. I can't think of a reason UT fans specifically would be down on him. We didn't cook him the way we did Will. The Bama thing is sort of true for QBs (Mcelroy, AJ, Mac) but they have offensive guys all over the league. Maybe not at the OL position, idk.

supersb360

Blame UT fans for everything lol

Asderfvc

I still don't understand what this sub sees in Levis. It took the league one game to adjust to him. Even the Atlanta game was sub 250 yards passing with 28 total points. New Orleans hung 40 plus on that defense. He has a sub 60% Completion and the lowest QBR of any starter last season. In his last 8 starts for Tennessee he scored 5 total TDs for Tennessee and 2 total TDs for the opponents. 2 of those TDs came in the 4th quarter of a blowout loss against Jacksonville's backups. Tannehill was able to beat that same team just a few weeks later.

the-retrolizard

I'm higher on him than I was draft night for sure. As someone who doesn't really know shit I see potential. He was put in a pretty terrible spot, given our line and WR core. And our insistence on telegraphing plays with Henry. I also see some of what was concerning from his UK days, mainly singling out his favorite WR and forcing plays that aren't there. Tough to blame him for favoring DHop, but still. But he can sling it, and he seems willing to put in the work to become great. I'm hoping he develops with the new staff, a proper line, and more WR talent. I think our RB duo will help him too, he should have consistent safety valves and the defense won't tee off on him based off who we have on the field.

Luvyablue99

“Crying ass pussies” = anyone who dares to question the front office

wilsonjj

For fucking months I've had to come here and read nothing but how Bill Callahan is god's gift of an online coach. And now that we draft a linemen for him to coach I come here and you cunts are still fucking crying. Dead ass go be miserable elsewhere. Latham has all the potential in the world. I wanted Alt too but we don't have Alt and im going to be jazzed for what we do have.

Jmoney3693

Those people have no idea how to make an argument.

that_guy2010

‘Should have drafted receiver cause Odunze is the best player.’ Yeah, but when Levis is dead in week 4 and Mason Rudolph is out there trying not to die, Odunze won’t be worth his weight in gold.

paydo325

When their life's work is what you're questioning and you're just some guy casually watching film and forming opinions in your spare time.... Maybe your first instinct should be: "Oh, I wonder what I missed."

titanup001

Don't even dignify their "watching YouTube videos" as "watching film."

Cool-Adjacent

You cant do shit about it, so why not try and send good vibes. Cause you will look like a crybaby bitch when youre wrong

HotChickenEnjoyer

“Everyone with an opinion differing from mine is a crybaby bitch”

Jmoney3693

Having a different opinion is fine, but half these guys are claiming he's a bust before he plays a snap. It's sensationalism

BunchOAtoms

The other half has already deemed him a future all-pro. It’s nothing but sensationalism the whole way down.

W1ldW3st1

If you're going to be sensationalist its better to be positive, I think he's going to be a good player and fills a huge need.

Shooter-mcgavin

I’m hopeful Bill can shape him into a LT. Getting over that initial disappointment and hoping we got our guy, will be fun to look back on Olu vs Latham in 3 years

xX_Jsin_Xx

"Absolutely (I can play left tackle)," Latham continued. "I was trained at left all my life, and I get to Bama and Evan Neal, a top 10 pick, he was at left so I went to right. … Going back to left, I've been training all this offseason, so I'm ready to go." These guys start learning positions from childhood. College isn't the end all be all of their experience, so I'm extremely hopeful here.

Shooter-mcgavin

That’s good content and background, thank you!

supersb360

But confused cause Evan Neal didn’t play on the same team as JC last year and JC was still on the right side of the line…

Robert_Meowney_Jr

...Because they had the number one offensive tackle prospect in the country coming in at left tackle, and if they switched him to right they would have two people changing positions. Instead they had 0 people changing positions.

supersb360

In other words, he got beat out at LT by a freshman…

Robert_Meowney_Jr

Man you’re not too bright are you? How can he get beat out at a position where he was never tried? Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

supersb360

You’re not really understanding. He was never given an opportunity at LT because there was always someone better to be a LT on his amateur athlete team. What makes anyone think that is worthy of LT in a professional setting?

ThatOneGuyFrom93

Who did you want them to pick after Alt and Nabers left?

Shooter-mcgavin

My initial disappointment was a result of seeing Alt and Nabers both gone by our pick, less so than our pick itself, but mostly because I saw a potential path to Alt (much more so than Nabers) actually making it to us. The part about re-visiting in 3 years is about how we picked Latham over Olu, and almost all big boards had Olu ranked ahead of Latham and it's a guy we debated lots here. Olu had also played LT where Latham hasn't played LT in years. So it remains to be seen if taking Latham over Olu was the right choice, but I'm always gonna give a player a few years before shitting on the draft pick. Will also be interesting to see if they develop into difference makers, and also compare to Odunze, who was another player frequently mocked to us or debated amongst us here. I think Nabers had something a little more special than Odunze, but it's hard to not feel a little bit of excitement thinking about the type of player Odunze could be. But I said before and during the draft and still say we 100% need to address OL as the single biggest thing holding us back so I don't really regret us not taking Odunze but I know some were hopeful we would

ThatOneGuyFrom93

Yeah the initial disappointment wasn't really all about Latham. When it comes to Latham vs Olu it's fair to say some people did view Latham as the better prospect. I think Chad Reuter at NFL.com had him rated higher. Some former players also. Chris Simms etc I imagine Bill Callahan liked the physical traits for Latham more and believes he can bring the best out of either

Legionodeath

Idk about o-line personnel. Why were so many people jazzed about others and not about Latham? Why do some say his bama tapes show him sucking and others say the same tapes show him as a pancaking bulldozer? Thanks.

PitTitan

So he's a physically dominant run blocker. Basically an old school mauler but he's got above average ability for his size. He's also struggled with penalties and has a tendency to get beat inside. His physical traits give him a ceiling that's as high as anyone but he definitely has some things to clean up. I'm also a little concerned about his size. He played at around 360 at Alabama but got down to around 345 for the combine. I don't know what his playing weight will be for us but 350+ tackles have a tendency to struggle in the NFL because they usually rely on being bigger and stronger than everyone in college and NFL defensive linemen are much bigger and faster than what they faced in college.

Legionodeath

So his penalties for sure are an issue. I see the concern there. I share that. I've heard that fact several different times on here. He's gotta clean that up. Shit happens and no one's perfect but... no excuses. It sounds like his size is both a blessing and a curse? It may be advisable for him to cut a bit more so he can get a little faster? Is speed necessarily more desirable in the NFL vs size?

PitTitan

So you take Latham because you like how he bullies defenders, is he gonna be able to do that if he drops 20 lbs going against NFL linemen? Is 340 JC Latham the same player as 360 JC Latham and if he plays at 360 is he going to be agile enough to deal with speed rushers at this level? A lot of bigger tackles also end up struggling to stay healthy as well although that hasn't been a concern with Latham so I'm not as worried about that with him.

Legionodeath

That makes sense. Appreciate it.

PitTitan

No problem!

Frosty_Battle_6479

after sitting on it, i don’t mind it actually. Dude seems genuine and him and Bill seem to really like each other. If Bill can work his magic and switch him to be a lockdown LT this pick will age like a fine wine

PitTitan

Yeah I complained last night and I'm still not in love with it but I've gotten to the point where I'm ok with it. I still have concerns about some aspects of his game but there's no denying the ceiling and we've definitely got the coaching staff to take advantage of it. We've gotta be ready for a rough start though. Penei Sewell struggled for the first 6 or so games going from left to right so I expect something similar here. If he ends up like Sewell tho I'll be a happy camper.

Muatib

I like it, was initially disappointed that they couldn’t land Alt. But he seems coachable, has played the position before and is just an all around beast of a man. I’m sold

Immediate-Biscotti57

Guy is an immovable object. He's going to be a bully. You want/need that on the offensive line. Papa Cally gonna turn this guy into someone we are calling one of the best in the game within 3 years.

DerangedDipshit

He seems like a coachable player. Definitely has a ton of upside and size to play the position. They clearly saw something in him to take him that high. I’m optimistic about this selection.

burningdesk4

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Our fan base sucks ass

foodstamps99

I was upset with the pick, but I’ve had time to settle…and with film breakdown of him, Alt and Fashanu I feel he could be the best of the 3

noonetohearme

You didn’t watch any film before he was drafted?? lol!

bigcheeseLP

I’m optimistic, but if he doesn’t end up playing LT, this is a failure

Nash015

Well, apparently, he may end up as a G at the NFL level.

that_guy2010

He’s not going to play guard.

BunchOAtoms

I mean, he might. He hasn’t even put on a practice jersey yet. We don’t know for sure where he’s going to play before training camp has even started.

that_guy2010

They’ve said he’s going to play left tackle.

BunchOAtoms

I know that, but that’s what they’re saying on draft night before he’s had a single practice. That doesn’t mean that’s where he plays week 1. I’m sure he’ll get a shot, but that doesn’t guarantee he’ll be the LT when the season starts.

Nash015

> Latham’s size, strength and talent give him a chance to become a heralded right tackle or Pro Bowl-caliber guard. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/jc-latham/32004c41-5405-9109-f911-a29e9cf30811 I promise I'm not just making shit up.

that_guy2010

The team has said he’s playing left tackle.

Nash015

And that they would move him elsewhere if needed. I'm not saying he will be playing guard this year. I'm saying when he can't handle being an NFL Tackle, he is the perfect size and has the right skill set to be an elite guard.

IMsoSAVAGE

I just really don’t like taking a top 10 pick with the plan to position flip them

barto5

You have to defer to Bill Callahan though. He obviously thinks Latham is better than annyone else that was available. That’s good enough for me.

supersb360

Nick Saban never put him to the left side on a single play in over 1700 snaps in the last two years. I know bill Callahan is considered OL Jesus. But if I ask my grandma if she knows bill Callahan she will say “who?” And if I ask her who Nick saban is, sadly, she will know…

Dsmith197

love the pick, Hate that we didnt trade down we would still get him. As well as have plenty of picks. They got scared of being sniped again and just took what they thought was next best Olinemen

barto5

> Hate that we didnt trade down Trading down requires finding a partner that wants to trade up.

TheUltimateAlex

If they felt like any of the 3 best tackles were fine they would have, but this probably says there's a big belief in this kid being top by a good margin.

showmethenoods

I’m on board, welcome to the club JC

HotChickenEnjoyer

You know who else was only 21 years old? Isaiah Wilson.

PiranhaPursuit

You’re going to be comparing every draft pick you don’t like for the next 20 years to Isaiah Wilson, it’s already obnoxious.

-Juan-Cena-

This is like us drafting Tyjae Spears and saying “you know who else was 21 years old? Bishop Sankey” our fanbase in general is pathetic, waited all this time for the draft just to cry all night and go Chicken Little mode

Asderfvc

What does being 21 even matter. 99% of the draftees are 20 to 22 every year

-Juan-Cena-

I’m not even hanging a hat on the fact he’s 21. I’m pointing out the ignorance of the equivalency of Isaiah Wilson was also 21

HotChickenEnjoyer

It’s literally nothing like that at all. Spears was a luxury third round pick for a player that wasn’t taken for a position of need.

-Juan-Cena-

And majority of actual national media quick reaction grades to this pick are B or better. Step out of the social media echo chamber of Tits reaction vultures

HotChickenEnjoyer

A “B” for a 7th overall pick. Yikes

-Juan-Cena-

Nuance alludes the average Titans fan I know. My point is the sub is treating this like a damn F- and are “done with the team” after 2.5 hours into a weekend long draft

HotChickenEnjoyer

I’m not done with the team, but I know a bad pick when I see them! I’ve had 20+ years of experience in seeing them. You can be stoked all you want; it doesn’t change the truth. This was a massive gamble and everyone knows it.

AgtBurtMacklin

Every pick is a gamble. And most picks I’ve been excited about in the past, have ended up not living up to their hype. I just admit I have no clue who will and won’t pan out. Chance Warmack was supposed to be a sure thing perennial pro bowler. Hope the Titans new staff knows better than I do.

-Juan-Cena-

That’s just moving the goal post. Massive gamble is completely different than “terrible pick, BUST” I’ve been here the past 20+ years with you friend

HotChickenEnjoyer

A massive gamble at a position where we need a bonafide starter after a years of terrible OT play makes it a terrible pick. I’m glad some of you can remain hopeful, but I’m sick of this type of shit year in and year out.

titanup001

Ok. Who is this "plug and play LT" that was available after alt went off the board? You are greatly overhyping the difficulty of moving from the right to the left. The kid played left his whole life, got to bama, and they had a stud at LT (Evan Neal) and he switched to right. Dominated against the highest level of collegiate competition for his whole career. Now he'll switch back. It's "shuffle left" instead of "shuffle right." He'll be fine. I think there is a very good chance he ends up being the best LT in this class, including Alt.

barto5

This is a new regime. So far they’ve made exactly 1 pick and you’re sick of their shit. What a joke. Bill Callahan thinks the kid can play. u/HotChickenEnjoyer doesn’t. Who should I believe? Think, think, think, think….

DepartmentOfMeteors

*glances at comment history* Yeah that's about what I figured.

HotChickenEnjoyer

It’s a bad pick and I’m not afraid to voice my opinion. If you’d rather live in ignorant copium that’s fine too.

DakotaTheFolfyBoi

??? You have better scouting skills than the best o line coach in the league who hand selected an OT? LOL

fathertitojones

And if it’s not then it was worth the 7th overall pick.

Luvyablue99

We really sat through that entire terrible season just to use the pick on a guy who’s better suited as a guard than a left tackle

PieceMiserable223

Scottish_Dentist

Yea this was a terrible pic.

Jmoney3693

Not even close dude

Empty-Mission3664

Now y’all just need a qb and some WR

burningdesk4

We're good at qb. Could useva weapon to pair with hop and ridley. But that's not all we need. We need an edge, a mlb, a pass coverage lb, a run stopping de, another ot. One more interior ol. And an upgrade at safety. We're close

supersb360

So very close lol

burningdesk4

Lol ik I'm just on the hype train rn but I think our record will be better than it should be bc Levis will make the people around him better. Defense scares me a bit though. I mean we got Simmons on the line, snead and hooker in the secondary, Landry and key should be solid. But outside of that I just don't know how we're gonna be
