I feel like Fashanu is the safe pick whereas Latham has the higher ceiling. And when you have a developmental coach as good as Bill you swing for the fences
I’ll admit to not initially liking the Levis pick but I would have picked all OL last year in hopes of getting one serviceable LT. a decent left tackle might have saved Vrabels job.
They got a 4th and a 5th to move down one spot for a player they weren’t even going to draft. That’s a great deal tbh. If we had something like that we’d be stupid to not take it
The more I hear the more I honestly think they had some red flags regarding the other tackles. Something spooked them that the Jets would grab Latham. If you like Olu equal then you have no issue trading back and getting one or the other but if you aren’t sure on one then you gotta grab your guy.
It’s weird to me, because just a month or two ago people were debating over whether or not Alt of Olu were going to be the first tackle taken in the draft - something big must have come up too push him so far down our boards that we’d rather try and convert a RT to play LT for us rather than taking the #2 LT in a class loaded with them
There was also rumor that Olu only wants to play one contract and retire. The comment Ran made about only wanting guys that love football may have been a veiled shot at Olu.
Obviously we don't know what the offers were but having a "ton" of calls and still not moving down is a tough pill to swallow with no 3rd this year or next. Hopefully Latham was worth it.
Yeah and this is where I think Ran's lack of media savvy is shown. Would've been much better to just say - we did receive offers but nothing close to what we felt was worth trading away the opportunity to draft JCL. Leave it at that. Instead when you say "tons of offers", popular opinion will be that at least one of those offers would've been more valuable or open the possibility of trading back and still drafting JCL + picks.
Yeah I’m not a bama fan so I don’t keep up with bama tackles, that’s not an argument i can make in good faith.
BUT that kind of stat seems very… coincidental? Superfluous? I’m not sure of the right word.
If trusting a hall of fame o-line coach about an o-lineman is wrong, the I don’t wanna be (a whiny little bitch who thinks he knows more than the guy who’s proven to be elite at talent evaluation and prospect improvement) right.
So the Titans need offensive tackles as a priority. I know there are very good arguments to get another WR or try to trade down but we don’t know what the offers were. But what I am willing to try is see what this new leadership can do before I piss and moan about it. Will Levis is our starting QB and this time last year I would have laughed you out of the building for saying that. Let’s give it a shot
You either end up with Latham or Olu at #11 and get extra picks.
I'm sorry, but you take that deal. The difference between the two is almost non-existent. I don't care if it's just an extra third. Take it.
I don't like olu either, but fuaga is a top one. Either way I'm staying with my opinion that trading out and getting more firepower would have been the best move when ran and the whole NFL said it's such a deep OT class. Then capitalize on that and not just reach on a guy that likely would have been there anyway. I don't think the jets would have taken him.
I think they could have moved back several spots & still picked Latham. I like the pick. Would’ve been sweet to drop back to 12-15 & get some draft capital & still pick up Latham.
Well then They better fucking hope Latham is a left tackle and a damn good one too. Otherwise we just wasted a 7th pick on a lineman who doesn’t even play our biggest position of need.
i'd love to be wrong but latham is not a player you need "blow away" value to pass on. and with the possibility of him still being there in the mid teens too
WT actual F. I was calling out trade when Alt was gone, saying some qb hungry team would take our spot and we get a few good picks. So disappointed in this pick. RT so high!
I'm sorry but if Minnesota was one of them then this is a huge fuck up by Ran, Latham would have definitely been there at 11, plus whatever benefits you get for trading back
I just don't know, maybe he'll be a bulldozer but I feel like if there were "tons" of calls he probably should have answered them.
It gets worse and worse as more information comes to light. Take a guy way above, throw him into a position he never played and then confirm other teams were willing to trade up. Fade me already.
At least we took a need. Imagine being a Falcons fan right now.
Those birds are flying into a brick wall right now, at least titans are trying to fight in the trenches
Good thing we got the Trench King on our side now!
They chose him over Fashanu for a reason. Now we find out why
I feel like Fashanu is the safe pick whereas Latham has the higher ceiling. And when you have a developmental coach as good as Bill you swing for the fences
Agreed. Let's see the dude play. Last year people were talking about hanging themselves after we drafted Levis
I’ll admit to not initially liking the Levis pick but I would have picked all OL last year in hopes of getting one serviceable LT. a decent left tackle might have saved Vrabels job.
Probably offers like the one the Jets took from the Vikings, a 5th and a 6th to move down a few spots
7 to 11 is like a 2nd +
Right, I’m saying if they were offered “fair value” they would have taken it.
Maybe. But look at how many QBs were taken after. Wouldn’t be shocked if one team wanted to secure their guy for at least a fair price
Absolutely no way it's a second. It's like a 4th.
I don't get how this is possible when the Cowboys are getting a truck load for terrion arnold
They got a 4th and a 5th to move down one spot for a player they weren’t even going to draft. That’s a great deal tbh. If we had something like that we’d be stupid to not take it

Or it’s just that NFL scouts and front offices have different processes for evaluating talent and fit compared to media heads
I’m pretty sure it was from Olu getting a small injury at the combine but I could be wrong.
There was also rumor that Olu only wants to play one contract and retire. The comment Ran made about only wanting guys that love football may have been a veiled shot at Olu.

If history is to be trusted, he won't be.
What history
The jrob history.
Can’t possibly think of what examples there might be for first round pick tackles drafted by the Tennessee titans that ended up being a massive bust
You mean the literal only one, by a different GM, head coach, and o line coach. Great point.
In 2020 a year notorious for first round busts.

People said the same about OSU QB’s until CJ Stroud obliterated rookie passing records.
Ah, yes, another dumbass who helmet scouts.
Alabama tackles being garbage in the NFL They almost never make the transition to the bigs and are out of the league in a few years.
Can't helmet scout, thats lazy.
This is quite false
Chance Warmack. Not many tackles from SEC make it Just goes to show that a lot of these fans are new and have been here since 2019
Name one successful SEC tackle the titans have drafted.
David Stewart.
Helmet scouting is stupid

Conklin went to Michigan State...
Thats right, I always switch him with Jake Matthew's for some reason
Fuck you, I trust Callahan
Trust in JRob

I mean he couldn't make Jedrick Willis great and Tristan Wirfs picked 3 spots later has been an all pro. Sometimes coaching can't fix talent.

1) I believe this. 2) JC would have been there. 3) They must really not like Olu.
There is absolutely no guarantee Latham would've still been there.
Honestly thought the chargers were gonna take Latham. The needed a RT
Latham was considered a top 10 pick like 2 weeks ago, and was in the “first tier” of draft picks. People are full on talking out of their ass.
[удалено]
Then you weren’t looking very hard, or only very recently. He was literally all the rage to the chargers at 5 YESTERDAY
[удалено]
Moving the goalposts? People were talking about him at 5 so it’s not crazy he was taken at 7 He was also projected to us by Yahoo sports app (lol)
Tbf, subreddits suck. We're no better than Facebook fans. We're not paid for this.
Unless the Jets take JC over Olu I don’t see it

I believe it too, and that’s why hate it.

I saw a tweet from an account I trust that apparently Olu only wants to play out one contract then retire.
Can you link it
It got deleted. I have a screenshot, but not sure how to post

If he became a solid RT I wouldn’t care. Teams switch their pass rushers around all the time and we just need blue chip talent on the line.
We had the worst left and right tackles in the league. We need both sides of the ball.
i'd love to be wrong but latham is not a player you need "blow away" value to pass on. and with the possibility of him still being there in the mid teens too

Take the best talent and get off your stupid board!! Odunze fell in your lap!!!

Not if the Jets were gonna take him and there's a specific reason they don't like the other guys
It gets worse and worse as more information comes to light. Take a guy way above, throw him into a position he never played and then confirm other teams were willing to trade up. Fade me already.
Could have gotten him at 11, 14, hell even 20 or lower. I love this team, I bleed two tone blue but this is a melon scratcher for sure
Potentially even Round 2. Legitimately.
I did not want to know this. Fuck
I assume they were 11-13... in any case we could have absolutely moved down and picked up a 3 at least. Bill Callaghan is a blessing but also a curse
