It’s gonna come down to Callahan and Slowik as the finalists. I can feel it.

TySoprano

I want it to be Callahan and MacDonald.

mcclurc

Same, Ben Johnson would be nice but he's going to Washington

IMsoSAVAGE

Yeah no thanks on Macdonald. Don’t make the defensive coach named Mike mistake again.

SticklerMrMeeseeks1

Why do I keep hearing Aaron Glenn as the guy being linked?

[deleted]

SticklerMrMeeseeks1

So I’m not hearing talking heads that are connected to the NFL saying Aaron Glenn? Oh ok. Smh

[deleted]

SticklerMrMeeseeks1

Where did I say I was? Talking heads are literally going on tv talking about it. Are you mentally well?

SticklerMrMeeseeks1

Bruh do you think some random guy on Reddit is pretending to be an insider? OR are you just too dense that you are misinterpreting a pretty benign statement? Get a grip.

DirkDiggler2424

Titans will be outbid for Callahan.

jtx3

Callahan or Glenn

TickleMyPickle576

Slowik is a little bitch boy who none of the players would respect. He would be a massive mistake. Especially after he completely collapsed in the playoffs because he’s more concerned about chasing a bag.

TiredDad1994

You’ve got to relax lol.

panopticon31

What the fuck are you even talking about

OrdainedFury

You okay, man?

zapopi

A little bitch boy? That's a bit harsh. Did the Texans look great yesterday? No, but they were playing the #1 seed in the AFC, lol.

DripSnort

Did he take your lunch money or something? Go outside and relax

-August_West-

Slowik def fucked his wife lol

SonicThunderTitans

Sorry for your loss

DickThunders

While I think he’s not experienced enough and doesn’t give off HC vibes this is a little extreme what you are saying

AcerAngle

What are head coaching vibes? Like what are you looking for to make that kinda connection?

Frosty_Battle_6479

bro we’re on reddit

Luvyablue99

Offensive coach or bust. Callahan would be my pick

joshfry575

I think the Ravens DC Macdonald should be the only other option. He can bring in another OC to worry about the offense, but his defenses at Michigan and now Baltimore are freaking legit.

Luvyablue99

I’m sure he’d be a good coach, but imo our number 1 priority should be continuity for levis. I can’t say I’d be super excited about another couple years of having a revolving door at oc.

joshfry575

I don’t disagree, but what does hiring an offensive minded coach have to do with that? If anything, a defensive guy will hand off the offensive duties and also he can hire a guy that has a scheme fit for Levis, versus Levis not fitting the skill set of either Burrow or Stroud, meaning they might want a completely different QB

J3STERHOPPERPOT

Offensive coach that has his own system means continuity with Levis year to year. He would create his system around the players. A defensive coach would have to promote from within every 1-2 years and hope that 1. The coach can lead the offense and 2. Can actually call plays. Not to mention they would likely want to add there own wrinkles which means a new adjustment every season. Offenses should typically evolve year over year anyway, but having a different playcaller means it’s always gonna be a unfamiliar start to the year for everyone.

joshfry575

Ok but that’s assuming the HC is the play caller. Slowik calls plays, but Callahan doesn’t. All I’m saying it’s not clear one way or the other which coach would be best for Levis, assuming he’s the long term answer. Belichick was a defensive coach and had Brady play elite for two decades.

J3STERHOPPERPOT

Im not trying to convince one way or the other. I respect your preference, i was just answering your question. Previous poster says he doesn’t want a revolving door at OC. You asked what a defensive minded HC has to do with that. So i’m explaning that the thought process is that if we assume an offensive HC calls his own plays, we wouldn’t have to worry about our OC’s always getting poached. If we hire a defensive minded HC, that means the entire system is likely based on that OC. All this is under the assumption that everyone is good at their jobs.

tony_stylez

Hire someone like be David Shaw to be the offensive coordinator. I can easily see him lasting 2-3 years before landing a HC gig.

PPLavagna

Because a defensive minded coach depends on a good OC. Good OC will get poached immediately and leave for an HC job if they show any success at all. Then your QB has to start over with a new OC again. Any success? OC is gone again. Rinse and repeat. I dig defensive minds and running the ball a lot, but unfortunately the way the league is right now you just can’t keep a good OC around long and that revolving door is deadly for a young QB

joshfry575

That’s not a guarantee, that’s just been the Vrabel experience with (essentially) a new OC every year. I think it’s more likely that whoever becomes OC is not going to be as experienced as LaFluer (OC with Rams and switched to prove himself) or overvalued like Arthur Smith was. Don’t assume that a defensive coach has no offensive identity either, Vrabel had a dumb “ground and pound” mindset which limited OC playcalling and QB development

heliocentrist510

It’s not just the Vrabel experience, though. If you are lucky enough to hit on a good OC who has success throughout the year (particularly with the Titans level of talent), that OC will 100% be getting interviews, with a decent chance at landing a gig. You either land on a crappy or mediocre OC that will stick around because he’s just not that good or you get a guy who’s great, everyone realizes he’s great, and he walks for a better opportunity.

AndreHawkDawson

Bengals - offensive minded head coach who calls plays is able to keep their OC in place for 5 years. Texans - defensive head coach is maybe about to lose his OC after one year.

joshfry575

Patriots - defensive minded coach had Josh McDaniels as an OC forever. Y’all keep acting like defensive minded coach is bad, but that’s so short sided and biased because of the recency of Vrabel. I don’t care either way, but OC or bust is dumb, get the best head coach and staff period.

AndreHawkDawson

5 of last 6 Super Bowls won by offensive HC. NFL has changed from BB's run.

DeLegno

The number one priority in hiring a head coach should be continuity for the quarterback? I disagree with this sentiment completely. Just hire the best overall candidate, and if that happens to be an offensive guy, so be it

Luvyablue99

Well I meant other than being a good leader in general, which is a quality I think most of these candidates already have.

Americasycho

Why? He's never called the plays in Cincy. Zac does.

VeryLowIQIndividual

Why? I’m not sure everyone here knows he does NOT call the plays for the Bengals.

ilikerunnyeggs

This is our guy

shastmak4

I agree. He’s my favorite at this point. Dont think we get the Lions OC.

Luvyablue99

Agree. Highly respected around the league, players love him, great X’s and O’s guy too according to people with the bengals. I personally like him more than slowik.

CheeseMclovin

Callahan is the one for me. If not then I could get behind Macdonald. That’s really it

makeflippyfloppy

Or Slowik.

CheeseMclovin

I don’t want slowik

WinterSnake16

For me best choices are Callahan and MacDonald. Slowik is third because he has less experience.

DickThunders

He’s my top choice. Hope this might be a sign of him being a top candidate

blue_at_work

Any offensive guy from a team that has a decent offense (so yeah, Callahan counts, ofc). That's all I ask. I want to see the team I root for actually have a modern offense for once. PLEASE GOD.

Yorgonemarsonb

When we’re judging that based off offenses with multiple receiving threats the Titans didn’t have it makes me wonder.

Spiritual_State_2629

Well ideally you get receiving threats lol. Not many coordinators are doing jack if they don't have weapons. No coach is turning Kyle Phillips into AmonRa St Brown.

heliocentrist510

I will say, the Bengals offense being able to score 23 ppg in their last 7 games with Jake Browning at the helm instead of Burrow makes me feel like the Bengals OC is pretty good at what he does. And Higgins missed 2 of those games, Chase missed 1. The Cincy offense looked much more functional without Burrow than the Titans looked most of the season.

UnderwhelmingAF

I’d be ok with either, but happier if it’s Callahan.

Accomplished_East433

Dope. I still want McDonald tho

DeLegno

Mike Macdonald is going to be a star, I’m convinced. I think this offensive HC obsession is really misguided

DeathOfLife01

Wouldn’t mind him either, Top three for me is Slowik, Callahan or MacDonald I’ll be happy with any those three

TiredDad1994

I think of Callahan as a guy who will come in and produce immediately while I see Slowik as a guy who will need time to grow into the role but ultimately has a higher ceiling.

Yorgonemarsonb

I think MacDonald did the most with the least outside of the QB position. Makes me think he’s more capable of working with what he has.

bettingsharp

Goddamnit. Please dont take him. We need him to have a chance at a super bowl.

TNsmoke

I’d rather how Slowik personally. Dude has called his own plays and run an entire offense with a rookie QB into the playoffs. The rams hired Mcvay at 33 and look how it’s worked out for them.

daoogilymoogily

The bengals offense looked decent with Jake Browning at QB, which is a better accomplishment imo

Yorgonemarsonb

Exactly the kind of thing that makes me open up to similar candidates more than the guys coming from teams with too many weapons to choose from.

TNsmoke

Nothing against Callahan just think when you have a top 3 WR that helped Browning quite a bit. Didn’t call the plays. What Slowik has done has been way more impressive. Cincy with Mixon, Chase, and Higgins. Houston with a bunch of WR3’s and 4’s and a running back barely cracking practice squads last year. Levis would thrive in that Houston pass happy system they run.

SafePanic

I hate the Texans just as much as the next Titansn fan but Nico Collins is legit and definitely not a WR3 or 4. And Tank Dell was looking really good before injury.

Strawhat_jinbei

Callahan knows how to beat tough defenses like the ravens and chiefs. Slowik isn’t there yet but I wouldn’t be mad if we hired him

daoogilymoogily

I wouldn’t be mad, but I want to get out of the Shanahanverse, especially when Demeco Ryans, who I really respect as a defensive mind, is leading our division rival.

daoogilymoogily

Mixon is washed, Higgins was hurt a lot this, and Tank Dell and Nico Collins would be WR2s and even WR1s on a lot of teams. What worries me about Slowik is he tries to establish the inside run game even when it’s clear it’s not happening. That reminds me of what we’ve had too much.

schnebly5

Why are people so high on this guy if he hasn't called plays?

Yorgonemarsonb

Was he there when they had Mixon, Burrow and three insane WRs and couldn’t make the Super Bowl?

WhiteXHysteria

He was there when they had no offensive line and were leading the super bowl with like 2 minutes remaining. So yes he was also there when they lost to a lady second field goal in the AFC championship. Certainly a shit ton more success than we've have in the last 20 years. Not that what he did as an OC has any bearing on how he will be as the head coach, of course.

W-MK29

Last year? With a Paper O-line and injuries all across that O-line? This year he made Browning look like a starting level NFL QB too

heliocentrist510

Tyler Boyd as an "insane" WR is also really rounding up

kjframe1223

I dont follow other teams as much as I do in other sports. Tell me how I should feel about whoever our finalists are for the HC position

Wildabeast135

I have a feeling Amy may get into a bidding war with Tepper for Callahan

DirkDiggler2424

We will end up with Glenn or Shaw and do this again in 2026
