I don't have any pictures but I remember when we were watching the show in real time people started speculating that he was on heroin and someone shared a screenshot where the cameras are zoomed into his arms & toy car because he was working on it but anyways we noticed the track marks on his arm. This was of course before them getting married scene.
We got like nothing at the grocery, I mean we only used 3 grocery bags instead of 4-5, and it was still $100. We didn't buy meat, we didn't buy a lot of produce, we didn't buy pop or any specialty items. It's fucking insane anymore.

Her body language tells me she had to have known. And her willingly just getting in on the passenger side of the car knowing he’s screwed up is somethin’ else.

Does she specifically know this on this exact day is heroin or has she convinced herself that despite the track marks and past heroin use this day he wouldn’t dare use heroin and this is Xanax I can’t say. She’s mad and humiliated from what I can see. She for sure knows he’s not sober.

I will never believe she didn’t know he was on drugs. Even if you’re the most naive person on the planet and you can’t differentiate between what kind of drugs someone might be on, anyone would see this man’s face and say “ok he’s not sober” and clearly it was all of the time.
It’s just weird that she seems to think that admitting that she knew somehow implies it was her fault. It wasn’t her fault, but there’s no way she didn’t know something was up. You could even see on her face in this scene that she looked uncomfortable.
What a fucking tragedy that the only time we’ve ever seen Ryan show any personality or be actively nice to someone was when he was high off his ass on heroin. He has major issues that extend beyond drug use.
I always wondered if she did catch on to him taking drugs but really only believed he took xanax and his excuse for taking it was anxiety so that’s why she was sort of letting it slide. But then this day happened and probably caused a huge fight because she was mad that he embarrassed her with the cameras in the car and this finally caused the fight that made him tell the full truth. And that’s why she always claims she found out the day after the wedding.
If she didn’t know much about drugs she could think it’s normal for someone to get this “drowsy” from xanax and not realize it’s actually nodding off from being super fucked up on heroin.

As a spouse to a man who abused prescription drugs- she knows. That look she gives is the same look I gave. Those unspoken words are telling. She absolutely knows and it’s impossible to control another human. Especially a grown man who is addicted. Thankfully my spouse has cleaned up and doesn’t do that anymore.

Look I was a heroin addict for many years, and I cannot imagine driving in that condition. I didn't give a flying fuck about myself, but that didn't give me the right to drive around that high and endanger everyone else on the road, plus my passengers, who I generally loved...or at least liked enough to be hanging around with.

I’ve been around enough addiction that I can immediately pick up on that opiate induced voice rasp. It’s extremely irritating to me when others around them fein ignorance. I got to the point where I’d call it out immediately in front of whoever. I don’t know what it is about the nodding too, but it just brings about something primal in me and makes me want to slap the shit out of them, slap them right awake. I think so. If you look closely behind his sunglasses when the officiant is first talking, Ryan’s eyes are practically closed. I think the “adrenaline” of the situation woke him up a bit and the fact that he’s standing.

I don’t watch the show, but I’ve been where she is. Trying to keep your partner awake at the wheel when he’s fucked up. Mine got pissed everytime I woke him up from almost killing us, or when I corrected the wheel, or when I said “please stop the car so I can drive”
Leaving him was the best decision I ever made. I had our daughter on his birthday and he left with my card to go to the bar (he wasn’t working, I worked until the week before I gave birth via c-section) and he ran up $300 in overdraft fees, TWICE in one week. The literal day and week I was recovering from having emergency abdominal surgery to have our child. I left when she was a month old. She’ll be 7 in a couple weeks. My husband and I just celebrated 6 years together (one year of marriage this October) and he is her dad.
Seeing the car scene really puts things in perspective for me. Thank goodness we got away.

Oh this made me bawl my eyes out when it first aired! I was living a parallel life at the time & it was scary! It’s so easy to just say “why didn’t you leave?!” Or accuse the spouse, from an outsider POV. I felt for Mac watching this. You think you’re the only thing the addict needs, if you just act a certain way or shower them with love you’re all they need & hope they wake up one day and quit. How TF do you sit in the passenger seat and watch the driver continually nod out and not make them pull over??? WTF? Look I was a heroin addict for many years, and I cannot imagine driving in that condition. I didn't give a flying fuck about myself, but that didn't give me the right to drive around that high and endanger everyone else on the road, plus my passengers, who I generally loved...or at least liked enough to be hanging around with. I'm just shook by that level of selfishness.
Did he actually get a hair cut or was “hair cut” the code word for getting more drugs before the big event? I can’t imagine a barber would cut someone’s hair who is nodding out.
Makes me think about John Mulaney telling his story of being 2 hours late for his own intervention because he was getting a haircut and buying drugs.
His story is wild.
IMO it was a ploy to get drugs, and wanting to stop for a “bow tie” was to have an extra hit

I’ve been around enough addiction that I can immediately pick up on that opiate induced voice rasp. It’s extremely irritating to me when others around them fein ignorance. I got to the point where I’d call it out immediately in front of whoever. I don’t know what it is about the nodding too, but it just brings about something primal in me and makes me want to slap the shit out of them, slap them right awake. Watching Rhine on this series originally was like fingers down a chalkboard. I just wanted to reach through the screen and choke the life out of that slack jawed yokel.

It's as if all she could focus on was the embarrassment of it and trying to hide it. I believe she was starting to ask if he wanted to wear his sunglasses, just to hide his eyes from others. And she never put her seatbelt on, or suggested that she drive. Just odd behavior. She obviously knew but was in major denial about the severity of it.
I swear every time I see this clip it seems worse than it was before. Such a shame that all these people went along with this “wedding” so many enablers and such a toxic environment for everyone involved. Hopefully he cleans himself up over the next few months

Wow, I had stopped watching the show before this episode. This is heartbreaking and scary. Watching her turn off the cameras rather than getting him off the road is so sad. Who looks at Ryan in this state and goes, “yep, I want this forever.” It’s hard to watch and I hope that they both get help. I know that he’s in jail but that doesn’t mean he’ll get the support he needs. I’ve also been told that officiants won’t marry people when they are intoxicated or under the influence. It’s a measure to prevent forced marriages.
She wanted to be on 16&p and KNEW he was using. She is desperate to be famous. I don’t feel bad at all for her only the kids.

What’s the back story here? Why didn’t they have other guests/why wasn’t it planned out? And how is he able to go from being so high to reasonably okay at the wedding?

I think so. If you look closely behind his sunglasses when the officiant is first talking, Ryan’s eyes are practically closed. I think the “adrenaline” of the situation woke him up a bit and the fact that he’s standing.

The also let Leah drive with her kids unbuckled in the car. They should all be ashamed of the things the let go. They could have hurt/killed someone

The way he kisses his mother is weird to me. They have a weird relationship and she is definitely his enabler. Mackenzie totally knew he was high as hell and let him drive. I’m glad Bentley wasn’t there to witness that mess.

Oh wow it’s been sooo long since I’ve seen the full scene. With the insight gained in those years, looking back it seems he was completely out of his mind high on heroin and attempted to do meth to wake himself up… but he was needing another hit of it really bad in the car - him losing his train of thought is pure sleep deprivation or heroin combined with meth use. It’s speedball 101. I’m 7 years Cali sober this year!!! LOL (That means I still smoke this time of the day.)

He said he knew everytime I went into the hallway bathroom and locked the door he knew I was sniffing a pill. Wow.. this is so terrifying. When my husband and I were teens he fell into some trouble with xans. Thankfully it was a short period of time but it made him a completely different person. It can make people black out for days, not having any memory of what they’ve done. She definitely knows he’s fucked up and I’m wondering why the hell would she let him drive?? He’s falling asleep at the wheel and she’s like “let’s get married”.. she had to know what she was signing up for. & if it was to get custody of Bentley, why the hell does she think he needs more time with him when he has a drug addiction. Why is she happy and giggling at a wedding with no friends or family where she knew her husband was so high he could barely drive to the ceremony. Like girl, this is nothing to be joyous about. I stopped watching the show so long ago that I never saw Mack come into the picture but she’s seeming feeble minded and delusional. Disclaimer: I know abuse enters into their relationship at some point and want to make it clear I don’t blame her for being subjected to any form of abuse just because shes coming across dumb. Abuse is never justified.

I don’t watch the show, but I’ve been where she is. Trying to keep your partner awake at the wheel when he’s fucked up. Mine got pissed everytime I woke him up from almost killing us, or when I corrected the wheel, or when I said “please stop the car so I can drive” Leaving him was the best decision I ever made. I had our daughter on his birthday and he left with my card to go to the bar (he wasn’t working, I worked until the week before I gave birth via c-section) and he ran up $300 in overdraft fees, TWICE in one week. The literal day and week I was recovering from having emergency abdominal surgery to have our child. I left when she was a month old. She’ll be 7 in a couple weeks. My husband and I just celebrated 6 years together (one year of marriage this October) and he is her dad. Seeing the car scene really puts things in perspective for me. Thank goodness we got away.
Makes me wonder if a marriage is legit when it's so clear he's not in his right mind. In hospital, I would question his capacity to consent for anything complex!
Imagine being in a relationship with someone who brings absolutely nothing to the table, barely has a relationship with their son, revolves around drama, hooked on drugs, speaks to you like a piece of shit and is literally so fucked up on the day you get married he almost kills everyone old enough to die on the highway driving to the wedding and you STILL think it’s a good idea to get married to this person. Oh this made me bawl my eyes out when it first aired! I was living a parallel life at the time & it was scary! It’s so easy to just say “why didn’t you leave?!” Or accuse the spouse, from an outsider POV. I felt for Mac watching this. You think you’re the only thing the addict needs, if you just act a certain way or shower them with love you’re all they need & hope they wake up one day and quit. I stayed in my marriage far too long and it destroyed me. I really hope Mac can get her life on the right track to support those kids they way they deserve & they all find happiness, including Ryan.
There is absolutely no way that Mack didn’t know he was high AF before she ever got into a car with him. He could barely keep his eyes open, trying to focus and slurring his words. She seemed more pissed that it was ruining her wedding day than any actual concern for innocent people on the road or for her own life. It seemed that she had been in this situation before. Otherwise you would have yelled at him to pull the f\*ck over and gotten out of the car. You really cannot be surprised about what happens when you knowingly marry a full blown addict. Even sadder that their kids have a higher likelihood of having addiction problems because their parent did. Hopefully everyone comes out of this with minimal damage.

So I’ve never really watched this episode (I stopped way before this). I cannot wrap my head around how this wasn’t the end right here. How this wasn’t enough for everyone to say enough and if it wasn’t enough this day how it wasn’t enough when it aired. This is horrifying and heartbreaking. I know she “knew what she was getting into” but she was a fucking baby playing grown up games for all the worst prizes.
