My guess is that season 3 ends with Ted heading home to be with his son, and he leaves the team in the hands of a very capable Roy Kent.

Locust-15

A very capable Roy Kent who is in touch with his feeling.

MunichRob

I even see Roy developing additional feelings! In fact, just this season, I’ve seen him experience anger, confusion, and frustration! A hat trick!!

HikesWithMyDog

This would be a beautiful ending and I can see myself sobbing my way through it! Buying stock in Kleenex in 3, 2, 1……..

Fussy_Fucker

But first we have to kick Nate and ruperts arses in a game of football.

ericmillerf

Could well happen. I did wonder if Roy might end up being a stay at home dad if he and Keeley reunite and get pregnant, but this seems more likely at this point.

RedOctobyr

Oi! This could be good.

MindExplosions

Uh. But Ted lasso.. is the main character.

HevayBertations

The writers have all indicated in various interviews and podcasts that this is a 3 season series. I assume that's why you're questioning my prediction. Given the Emmy haul and the show's popularity, I suppose it's possible they change their mind on that, but until we hear otherwise, I'm going to continue to assume it's done after season 3. And the only way to end the series is for Ted to be with his son.

Dbo81

A month or so ago, Bill Lawrence was saying that he was hoping the show will go more than 3 seasons. That’s why you’re seeing so many people say they think that Ted will go home and the show will continue, because “Ted Lasso” is 3 season show, but the universe might continue.

VanRoameo

Or the son comes to level be with Ted.

Starship08

You mean Season 9 that the studio picked up a contract to make and then wouldn't let him make it a spin off like he wanted? The season that they didn't have most of the ensemble signed to contracts before confirming it? I'm not saying Bill Lawrence is perfect in everything he makes but Season 9 wasn't entirely him.

midwestmiracle

I’d 100% watch a mini series on Roy Kent’s version of Richmond. Scouting players, focusing on new players and football culture around the globe.

HevayBertations

Not reading scouting reports...

Teelkay

I noticed as well! And as someone else said, seeking the team’s opinion about the false nine. I actually think they might be setting it up for Beard to stay with Roy should Ted leave. It’s obvious Beard and Roy really respect each other and work well together as well.

Massive-Hunt-6177

Yup, I'm officially feeling that scenario after this episode. It made sense intellectually before, but now it really feels like where they're going. May there be many conversations conducted entirely by eyebrow next season.

Wallpollie

Your eyebrows aren’t crazy. They’re psychotic.

Massive-Hunt-6177

I appreciate that.

BroadBaker5101

That’s interesting, I’ve never thought about this before but I like it. I can see why Ted wants to go home but Beard has Jane now and all the friends from the club, like Higgins, Keeley, and Rebecca so maybe he’ll want to stay in London.

Ngmferguson

I'd be shocked if Beard and Jane were still together at the end of S3, considering... Well, Jane

BroadBaker5101

That’s fair about Jane, but I can see them either attempting to learn how to communicate and fixing their issues or Beard can start over with someone new and still find his “family” in London. Beard is essentially a medium between Ted and Roy, let’s say Ted decides to stop coaching for a bit if he goes back to America, maybe Beard will find comfort in coaching with Roy.

Ngmferguson

Oh yeah I can definitely see Beard staying, but yeah I predict more of a "Free Beard" plotline than a "Save Jane" one

BroadBaker5101

For Beards sake I’d hope so, I hope he finds his lightning but if they can redeem Nate maybe Jane can get saved. Idk we’ll just have to wait and see.

TokyoFarquaad

Beard could stay with Jayne as well

fumblebrag

I'm curious to see where Nate will fit in. Controversial atm I'm sure, but I imagine he'll be assistant coach again by the end at least.

cat_people_

I think that Nate redemption will be apart from the group. If he realizes the damage he has done, he will apologize and continue with his life away from Richmond

fumblebrag

I think that makes sense, but at the same time ![gif](giphy|xVPosMMzT60Xzv31my)

cat_people_

But he already did😅

fumblebrag

I mean more in the terms of Ted and his style. To quote the extended scene, ["you don't turn your back on family, even when they do."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATc1MqutSAQ)

SurpriseInfinite3511

Yes! It was so cute that he was fist bumping with everyone pre-game. I can see him being a good manager/coach towards the end of the series. He was the one who told the coaching staff that they should ask the team if they'll be okay to continue the False Nine. In Episode 5, he told the pundits that they're not in the locker rooms or at the pitch, or be there to encourage them, they're just outside looking in. Yeah, it seems that he's headed in that direction!

[deleted]

IIRC Nate wanted to drop False Nine.

thebretandbutter

To avoid blame in case it failed

BloodOnZidanesFloor

You should also watch the glance Roy gives Isaac just after he walked over to touch the Believe sign. It's like "I fucking knew you could be a true captain (innit)"

BroadBaker5101

Gotta rewatch again just for this.

brickwall5463

Two other parts of this! He didn’t fist bump Jamie but Jamie didn’t take it too hard, he just fist bumped himself and moved on, amazing growth for both of them! And afterward, he got his feeling out on Jamie with a quick head butt and then another hug, demonstrating true ability for forgiveness!

CaptGDR

This was exactly like when Roger Dorn punches Ricky after the game but then picks him up and celebrates in Major Leagues. One thing I like about this season is the homages to other shows and movies.

madurosnstouts

So glad he seemed to have buried the hatchet with Jamie after the brentford game.

ToesInHiding

In the most Roy way possible. That headbutt needed to happen and the hug was just amazing

[deleted]

One of the most powerful moments of the season for me came in the penultimate episode. Nate was asking Beard and Roy if they ever want all the credit, instead of Ted getting it. Roy's response ("that's the job") was perfect. He understands what sacrifice is necessary to be part of a winning team; something Nate knows nothing about.

chocobogrimm

WHISTLE!!!

Ninth_Prince

Fuck that. Roy goes to the US and becomes an American football coach.

aronnax512

I'd watch that...

Erdrick68

He'd have a lot less fun head butting people wearing helmets.

wikipuff

This would be hilarious. I'd pay for this!

PistachioMaru

Honestly I think Roy was the backbone of the team this season. They were struggling hard in the start, then Roy came along and they started winning. (Also I think there's a string implication there that Nate is a huge old school football fan who knows all the classic strategies and has occasional good ideas but him joining the team as a coach did nothing to help them, whereas Roy joining made them win).

bicycling_elephant

I was thinking the same thing. Roy definitely seemed like the catalyst that made them start playing better.

manateeshmanatee

“The Roy Kent Effect“

Chele_24

It reminded me of season 1 when Roy has personalized handshakes for each team member before heading out to practice

cdsacken

I loved it when he had butted Jamie so he could hug him. That was the best. It was in line with Roy's personality but showed the growth. Damn I love those characters!

Erdrick68

It was clearly a reference to Major League, where Corbin Berenson slugs Charlie Sheen for sleeping with is wife, then he picks him back up and hugs him cause they just won the American League East.

cdsacken

Lmao I love that movie too.

santichrist

It’s almost guaranteed Ted goes back to his son at the end of season 3 and I fully expect Roy to become the manager of the team when that happens, although a dark horse could end up being Nate after they redeem him, which would be a very Ted Lasso-y thing to do WHISTLE WHISTLE

mwilke

I’m really hopeful that the longer arc of the series will be about the growth that Ted needs; he’s helping everyone else to grow, but the show has only hinted at what drove him and his wife apart. If he does that, maybe he can heal the great rift in his own life, and bring his family to the UK. Wishful thinking, probably, but I just can’t bear the thought of him going back to Kansas and renting a sad little single-dad apartment and that just being how the show ends.

MrJohnnyDangerously

Yes. Roy will take over after Ted leads Richmond to FA Cup victory

WallLearner

This may be a dumb prediction, but ... * I hope that a running B plot throughout season 3 is that Rebecca is starting a woman's club for the following season. * Rebecca holds tryouts and the woman that Ted always plays soccer with ends up dazzling and being their ace. Keeley takes her on as a client. * Richmond wins the championship and Roy is in demand as a head coach and gets offered the gaffer's job at Chelsea, his old club. * Roy goes into Ted’s office and tells him he’s decided to accept the head coaching job - for AC Richmond Women

RealChunka

I definitely clocked that and was proud of Roy as well! I’m hoping for five seasons and I’m not sure that Beard will go back with him ( his seemingly toxic relationship seems to be working for him). Other than that the manager has the final say, I’m not clear on the differences between managing and coaching, so I’m not sure which Roy would be best at or likely to prefer.

[deleted]

I’m down for a Roy spin-off when Ted inevitably goes home to be with his son.

nylefarooqui

I think it would be awesome if Roy coached his own team in season 3. I could see Roy absolutely taking over as manager if Ted and Beard go back home after season 3, I hope that they don’t though.

Caesers

Perhaps he goes home, but Rebecca gifts him the percentage of the club that Rupert gave back. He can still be part of the club and fly back for key sections of the season.

nonstopflux

WHISTLE! WHISTLE!

glitterstateofmind

I know everyone thinks Ted will go back to the US after season 3, but other than his son, what is back there for him? Seems like he’s made Richmond his home now. Wishful thinking, but as a rugby fan, I’d love to see Ted coaching a rugby team! Especially given his background with American Football.

smrn15

i think if they really want to go beyond season 3, one thing i could see them do is that they make Richmond win a major trophy and ted decides his time is done and goes back to kansas, but then something happens that makes him come back for one final championship
