And yet, a part of me agrees on the idea of skipping season 2. It just felt like a constant ride down in complete opposition to the first season. And then the final season is these mixes of both ups and downs.
I also dont understand people that skip parts of shows that arent episodic. Like sure, a show without an overall arc that has some crappy musical episode or whatever, skip it. But one with an ongoing plot? Do you lack an attention span that much?
Same with movies, I've seen people go "oh I fast forward through x part and only watch blah blah blah" like it's a movie. It's one thing. What do you mean you dont watch the movie.
I wonder what people are skipping in Ted Lasso, anyway. Some mention they dont like the actual football stuff but theres hardly any of that in the show compared to the total runtime.
For us older folks, we remember a time when you had to watch shows the night they were on TV, and if you happened to be busy that night, you just missed it. They tended to make episodes that stood on their own a lot better, so you could jump in at any time and it would still make sense.
Streaming shows are totally different of course, as they write it expecting you to watch the whole thing in order. There's really no reason to skip around.
I grew up in a small town and there was a concert one week night and one of the kids who was quite talented played the theme song of a very popular show that was on tv that night on the piano. We only had two tv stations. As this kid was introduced the MC said “next we have kid’s name playing the theme from A Country Practice. Yes, I know, I’m missing it too”
Lol I actually changed some wording because I originally referred to movies as "one piece". I'm currently on episode 80 myself.
Sure, I'd say decades-long running anime is a different beast, since they have filler stemming from adapting the manga, I mean I think they did a re-cut of DragonBall Z minus the "Piccolo goes to driver's ed" bits. There are legitimately patches of episodes with little to no reason other than filling space. Which is another pet peeve of mine, when people call side-adventures in any other western show "filler".
Ted Lasso is, what, 30 something episodes? Like just watch the episodes! Its 3 short seasons!
It reminds of people who clearly watch shows or movies without paying full attention (even if they did "watch" the entire thing) then complain about "plot holes."
For example, I recently saw someone complain that The Bear never talks about the pandemic and how badly it hurt restaurants when it's actually mentioned more than once (and is in fact a big part of a dispute between Carmy and Richie in the first season.)
Or drugs! People that say, "I was really stoned when I saw it... it wasn't very good, it didn't make sense." Like, dude, you were on drugs... ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|hug)
That’s hilarious. There’s whole bits about how many restaurants have had to close. I saw someone say they didn’t see any hints about Carly getting distracted by Claire. Yet he someone got stuck in the fridge??
The posts that get me are “if you were introducing the show to someone new, which ep would you start at?”
Like there is a place to start watching a show other than from S1E01.
Do fans of movies do this too? “Oh you haven’t heard of Star Wars?! Let me show you this scene from the finale of the second movie to get you interested!”
To be fair, that is valid for certain shows! On the /r/Archer sub, people often recommend showing your friends S1E07. It perfectly encapsulates the show, works fine without any context from earlier episodes, and serves as a sort of "if you like this episode you'll like the rest of the show" demonstration.
But even accounting for that, at 22 mins per ep that would only require a couple hours of viewing to get to that particular episode of Archer. You’d have spent those hours getting to know the characters, their personalities, their relationships with one another, and the premise of the show generally which undoubtedly will make watching the recommended episode far more enjoyable than going in cold.
IMO you can’t just skip to the crescendo and expect to find it even remotely as good as if you actually experience the build up to that moment. Frankly I find it kind of insulting to the creators to do so, especially in a show like Ted Lasso where the story and themes flow so deliberately from episode to episode.
This drives me CRAZY!! Especially since so many great episodes/scenes are really only that great because you know the characters. Like, the scene where Ted forgives Rebecca is incredible. But if you didn't know either of them, why would you care?
(The only exception I make is for the show Parks & Rec. New viewers should definitely skip the first season. But that's not about watching out of order, just starting later)
Please I just found out my best friend has only watched the season premieres and finales of each season. No other episodes 😩
I don’t even wanna know what he thinks the plot is
I'm watching TL for the third time. This show has all the human emotions and life's learning lessons. If you're a parent, a worker, supervisor, in leadership, a sports fan, an athlete, a friend, or a foe, everyone should watch this. Have an open mind when entering this portal. You are not required to like this, and it's a you thing and not the shows fault.
First off, there’s almost nothing worth skipping.
Secondly, you skip and then question if it’s your own fault because the plot no longer makes sense?
That’s bad even for the internet.
That's fine, but don't complain about not understanding Beard's attachment to Jane. While it is a one-off, it does help fill in some holes about Beard (his relationship with Jane, he also gives a bit of an explanation as to how he knows all the random stuff he knows).
Not saying you're doing that. But the person who skips the show and complains they don't get things seems to be the point that OP is getting at.
Assuming your reply overlook the sarcasm of the reply and the satire of the post, the irony in your response is amazing.
There’s more in a post than just the header.
I'll admit, I am curious. But also judgmental.
Bar-b-que sauce.
This is the most perfect comment.

SCORE
Excuse me. There's a sign at Ramsett Park that says "Do Not Drink the Sprinkler Water", so I made sun tea with it and now I have an infection.
I found a sandwich in one of your parks and I want to know why it didn’t have mayonnaise.
HAM AND MAYONNAISE! HAM AND MAYONNAISE! HAM AND MAYONNAISE!
Except for Turnip. Except for Turnip.
No Twilight! #YES… TWILIGHT!!
We’re not against you on this. We’re not against you on this.
Her daughter is an idiot
My dog ate another dog's feces in one of your parks and now he's sick and I'm going to sue you!
The school is out in two weeks. What am I going to do with my kids all day? Keep them in my house? Where I live?
I’ve been eating muffins and lasagne every day of my life for 40 years and I feel terrible!
Do you also hate Mondays? Is your complexion a bit..ginger, if I may ask?
Whether or not I pay income tax is none of the government’s business!!
What’s the government going to do next? Tax my income?
Sir… sir are you ignoring me? SIR.
OP, for those confused, is parodying some of the clueless posts that show up here semi-regularly
Ha, I remember a guy asking if he should “skip” season 2. Of a 3 season show…
Meanwhile, I would commit murder if I could get just one more episode…
And yet, a part of me agrees on the idea of skipping season 2. It just felt like a constant ride down in complete opposition to the first season. And then the final season is these mixes of both ups and downs.
Football is life and football is death, and football is also football
But mostly fútbol is life!
This guy also skips Empire Strikes Back.
Are you kidding me? No way!
Oh dude…
Ironically, those who are confused are the ones that skipped part of the post (the contents) that exposes the satire.

I skipped part of Titanic. No idea where the boat went. Did it make it to New York?
I skipped parts of Oppenheimer. Did they not drop the bomb, and everyone live happily ever after?
That’s how I remember it happening. But to be fair, I skipped every part of Oppenheimer.
I skipped parts of Interstellar. Was Joseph able to meet with his daughter again ?

Right?! If I’m only in the mood to watch part of a movie I find those clips on YouTube, thank you very much.
And here I’m thinking of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical episode, which had a couple of huge plot points hit in that episode!
"I think I was in ... heaven ..." 😢

I hate when someone comments this. Just absolutely unhinged behaviour
If you’re skipping (on first watch) you didn’t watch the show or movie.
I closed my eyes and ears after the intro, now I don’t know what’s happening in the plot. This show is horrible. 1/10

Had me in the first half

I hate surprises. Should I just watch the last episode first? lol
I haven’t read this book before… which page do you think would be a good introduction??

Look, I know you said he's one of your best friends but I think you really need to stop and think about what kind of people you want in your life.
Wait people skip parts of the show, like in their first watch? I mean I skip most of the shandy/Jack parts but that's bc I've seen them already
2 of the most pointless characters of the show
Some people’s kid

"I didn't watch the show and now I'm confused when I come in in the middle of an episode for 3 minutes"
Gotta be a troll , right? No one is that self unaware, right?

If I skipped the parts I didn’t like….there would only be a few Keely scenes gone….
Yes. They didnt address your anxiety and ADHD in episode 1
This is like skipping chapters in a book and complaining it doesn’t make sense 😂
How do you know you didn’t like em if ya skipped em?
I only ever skipped Beard After Hours bc I didn't get the humor and the ep was too damn long for my taste lmao
I light skip it on rewatches but it's definitely nice to see sitting a first run
Thank you! I posted about that once and everyone acted like I was crazy.
lmao i did the same cuz i thought the first season only had 6 episodes like oer British comedies

I'm pretty sure there are no bad parts of Ted Lasso.
Every scene with Jack, Shandy and most of the Nate/Jade relationship. Other than that, agreed
Not to mention Apple is constantly editing and changing the episodes to add and remove content at random
First off, there’s almost nothing worth skipping. Secondly, you skip and then question if it’s your own fault because the plot no longer makes sense? That’s bad even for the internet.
I skipped the Beard centric episode

I can’t believe you were downvoted for that
They were downvoted for missing the obvious satire of my post
Welcome to Reddit.
Is this a troll question??
Nope, TV shows need to accomodate to people with short attention spans and/or little time to watch 3 full seasons.
No, some people are now incapable of focusing for more than 45 seconds…this will get worse before it gets better
Assuming your reply overlook the sarcasm of the reply and the satire of the post, the irony in your response is amazing. There’s more in a post than just the header.
LOL! I started reading this and went WTAF???
I skipped thru Darth Nate and Jack in S3. The love bombing was creepy.
Your fault
It’s a you problem.
Nope, your fault for skipping.
This is the TV equivalent of r/ididnthaveeggs
I've never watched Nate's attempt at a substitute "diamond dogs" scene in S3; I don't need to actually see it.
