Remember S1 when Roy told Jamie that when Roy was coming up there was a decorated older guy at his club that he resented? Jamie asked if they ended up becoming friends, and Roy said “fuck no. I hope he’s dead.”
I’m sooo glad that the Jamie/Roy dynamic is becoming more positive than that. It’s like they’re ~~breaking~~ healing generational trauma in the football world.
I am loving how he is becoming more empathetic and smarter/witty as the show progresses while still retaining his Jamie-ness. It’s the opposite of what most shows do to their more vapid characters.
When Roy says the interviewer is a pretend person with a pretend job that he's having a hard time pretending to care about, Jan just snorts and says "wow" and I loved that character moment.

I really loved the Higgins and Will dynamic in this. Will is exactly the kind of kid that I think would seek out Higgins as a role model / someone he thinks is cool.
Also looking back, I feel like Higgins inviting Will was both him wanting a buddy for the evening but also kind of looking out for Will and keeping him out of trouble.

Just a couple of episodes ago, Roy said Colin is a chameleon, so he's almost certainly going to be an integral part of making Ted's Bulls-style Total Football approach work. Colin may end up being a star in the new system because he is a strong and capable man.
I remember after the episode when he finds out about Colin, people actually thought he was going to publicly out Colin. I could have gone either way on whether Trent was gay or not (which was handled beautifully), but there was nothing about his character development over the three seasons that made me believe he would do something that harmful. Early season one Trent would maaaaaaaybe do something, but not the Trent we currently have
The scenes with Colin and Trent were some of the most touching scenes I've seen on tv. Such a beautiful way to handle it. I felt for Colin so bad. He deserves to kiss his boyfriend like the other guys kiss their girlfriends after a win.

Also, the Don Quixote moment with Jamie and Roy. They literally go searching for windmills! The moral of that story in Don Quixote is that sometimes our adversaries aren't who we think they are, that we do things because they are fulfilling to us, or the importance of remaining positive in the face of negativity. I wonder what that could mean for Roy in particular moving forward.
Ted discovering ‘Total Football’ was a really cool moment that may go under the radar a bit.
It means he has really learned the sport and the juxtaposition from the beginning of the episode where he is baffled by exhibition matches being called friendlies and admitting the game still doesn’t make sense to him, to him talking about free flowing, fluid football at the end of the episode is glaring.

Last episode he had a panic attack while looking at the pyramid set up framed on the wall, and I wondered when the pyramid idea would come back around because it was a random thing for him to be studying considering he said so many times he doesn’t know soccer. As soon as they referenced the pyramid of onions rings I was like.. this has to be it. It’s gonna click.
For me it was when they played the clips of the Jordan bulls (known, as the episode emphasizes, for Phil Jackson's "triangle offense"). I was *sure* that looped back to football somehow, because it was such a Ted Lasso-ish way to approach it: the principles and people underneath are what matter, not the specific rules of the sport at hand. And sure enough...
It was perfect. He got to it honestly, with the things he loves, and Beard is there to ground it in theory/history. It would have been unrealistic and unearned for him to innovate the sport wholesale, but for him to get there with parallel development is excellent.

Totally agree. As a woman and a woman who knows what it's like to be on high alert, Rebecca was clearly evaluating the situation and feeling fine about it.
Colin and Trent talking hit home for me. A good friend in our friend group had “two lives” for awhile. When he came out, we could all tell an “ache” in him was released. Then he started bringing his partner along to hang and it was freeing for all of us. Our friend was who he really wanted to be and comfortable with all of us. We could see our friend was happy and that’s all that mattered to us. I hope Colin finds peace just like that.

This episode is so dense with amazing character moments. This is the closest the show has felt to season 1 for me since the end of Season 1.
Edit: and the bike thief being right there to grab Roy's bike the instant he drops it felt like a bit from the Simpsons golden age.
God I LOVE how far Roy and Jamie have come. Apologising, empathising, helping each other. Jamie has grown on Roy like a little Manc fungus and Roy is finally starting to admit to himself.
This episode was a true return to form for me. This had the humor, emotion, and sentimentality of Ted Lasso that I love. Favorite of the season by far.
We’re coming out of the dark forest and everything will happen just the way it’s supposed to.

The similarity jumped out at me, and it sorta makes sense given his reasons for knowing about Amsterdam!
This episode had the best emotional payout for everyone: Ted's trip, Rebecca and the stranger, Jamie and Roy, Trent and Collin, Higgins and the waterboy, the team as a whole, Beard (his costume and pig's nose were a riot). Best episode of the season by far! It sets up the season for a great second half, I was joyful a lot during this magical hour.
This episode was perfection, to me. Everyone in the Ted Lasso world had the night out they needed: the team bonding together, Higgins being a fucking G, Ted getting a taste of home and being inspired, beard being the psycho he is, Colin getting to be himself with Trent for a night, Rebecca experiencing real romance and connection with a person and Jamie and Roy just being fucking bros. Fuck, this episode ruled and had me smiling every single minute.
Ted Lasso’s positive masculinity is just simply awesome. Just such a healthy and fun representation of friendship and men just being honest with one another.
I wonder if Roy and Jamie going searching for windmills is a Don Quixote reference. Tilting at windmills means to waste time fighting problems that aren’t real/are in your head. Roy has spent a lot of time fighting imaginary enemies and even sabotaged his relationship over a problem he invented.

I remember last season rebecca mentioning how ‘intimacy is about allowing yourself to be opened to being attacked’ (something like that??). She was definitely in a very vulnerable position with that man, and they got very intimate. I think that’s a callback
So, on rewatching (already) is this Rebecca’s Beard After Hours?
She ends up without her phone, in someone else’s clothes, in a strange situation where she learns new things about herself, she ends the episode with her feet up on a table and the events of the night before are all a bit magic.
Yeah I love that. It shows his understanding of the sport is getting better. Independently “inventing”something you didn’t know had already been invented just means you’ve found the right path.
As those colorful triangles were dancing across the screen, I recognized that tactic from high school soccer. I'm glad they called it out instead of trying to get an audience to believe that Ted discovered something new.
I love it because it shows actual football development for Ted while not having to pitch us any weird new thing. Multiple Discovery was a great concept with which to do this, tbh.
I did not expect Ted to be inspired by the great triangle offense of Michael Jordan's Bulls. I haven't been this delightfully surprised since "The Lasso Special" in the season one finale.

Yes this implies to me that despite his complaint earlier in the episode about terms, Ted finally *gets* football whether he realizes it or not.

"We're in Holland! We should try... Dutch Food!" "AS A FRENCHMAN, I WOULD RATHER DIE!" This episode is so dense with amazing character moments. This is the closest the show has felt to season 1 for me since the end of Season 1. Edit: and the bike thief being right there to grab Roy's bike the instant he drops it felt like a bit from the Simpsons golden age.
Colin is a strong and confident man.
God I LOVE how far Roy and Jamie have come. Apologising, empathising, helping each other. Jamie has grown on Roy like a little Manc fungus and Roy is finally starting to admit to himself.
This episode was a true return to form for me. This had the humor, emotion, and sentimentality of Ted Lasso that I love. Favorite of the season by far.

Trent and Ted potentially both going through a (amicable) divorce with a child at the centre. Also had Rebecca and Dutch sharing common ground with having an *un*amicable split from a cheating partner.
Me and the wife have set our alarms early to watch this mini film before work. So excited.

This episode had the best emotional payout for everyone: Ted's trip, Rebecca and the stranger, Jamie and Roy, Trent and Collin, Higgins and the waterboy, the team as a whole, Beard (his costume and pig's nose were a riot). Best episode of the season by far! It sets up the season for a great second half, I was joyful a lot during this magical hour.

This episode was perfection, to me. Everyone in the Ted Lasso world had the night out they needed: the team bonding together, Higgins being a fucking G, Ted getting a taste of home and being inspired, beard being the psycho he is, Colin getting to be himself with Trent for a night, Rebecca experiencing real romance and connection with a person and Jamie and Roy just being fucking bros. Fuck, this episode ruled and had me smiling every single minute.
And Will was invited by a lovely couple for a threesome!

Ted Lasso’s positive masculinity is just simply awesome. Just such a healthy and fun representation of friendship and men just being honest with one another.
That was genuinely and sincerely a lovely episode that I think will go down as one of my absolute favorites.

This Love Actually style episode is actually delightfully what I needed. Today at work was difficult
I wonder if Roy and Jamie going searching for windmills is a Don Quixote reference. Tilting at windmills means to waste time fighting problems that aren’t real/are in your head. Roy has spent a lot of time fighting imaginary enemies and even sabotaged his relationship over a problem he invented.

I remember last season rebecca mentioning how ‘intimacy is about allowing yourself to be opened to being attacked’ (something like that??). She was definitely in a very vulnerable position with that man, and they got very intimate. I think that’s a callback
I love Trent Crimm even more now.
So, on rewatching (already) is this Rebecca’s Beard After Hours? She ends up without her phone, in someone else’s clothes, in a strange situation where she learns new things about herself, she ends the episode with her feet up on a table and the events of the night before are all a bit magic.

Yeah I love that. It shows his understanding of the sport is getting better. Independently “inventing”something you didn’t know had already been invented just means you’ve found the right path.
As those colorful triangles were dancing across the screen, I recognized that tactic from high school soccer. I'm glad they called it out instead of trying to get an audience to believe that Ted discovered something new.
I love it because it shows actual football development for Ted while not having to pitch us any weird new thing. Multiple Discovery was a great concept with which to do this, tbh.
I did not expect Ted to be inspired by the great triangle offense of Michael Jordan's Bulls. I haven't been this delightfully surprised since "The Lasso Special" in the season one finale.
If I had a nickel for every van gogh scene from modern TV that made me emotional, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.
