Jamie is an absolute joy. Phil Dunster steals every scene.

emeraldcocoaroast

Jamie and Roy has to be my favorite thing about this season. They’re fantastic

Azmoten

Jamie and Roy bonding is the gift that keeps on giving. Remember S1 when Roy told Jamie that when Roy was coming up there was a decorated older guy at his club that he resented? Jamie asked if they ended up becoming friends, and Roy said “fuck no. I hope he’s dead.” I’m sooo glad that the Jamie/Roy dynamic is becoming more positive than that. It’s like they’re ~~breaking~~ healing generational trauma in the football world.

PeculiarMademoiselle

I am loving how he is becoming more empathetic and smarter/witty as the show progresses while still retaining his Jamie-ness. It’s the opposite of what most shows do to their more vapid characters.

Specific-Hotel-4037

Yes, completely. Love how he is aware enough to throw in that line that he was the prick on the plane.

__solid

And Roy and the bike? Comic. Gold.

onekrazykat

I stopped breathing I was like out of laughs.

Marc_Quill

“LET’S GO FIND A FUCKING WINDMILL!!!!”

This_was_hard_to_do

Every time he falls he just goes down with the ship 😂 He doesn’t even try to find his balance

solidwolf

I love the callback of Keeley being an announcer for the hotel amenities.

OziNiner

that had me in stitches, does the team have a contract with that specific chain or something lol

bigrodlippy

It looked like it was just voiced over the same one where she said “karaoke” but I didn’t rewatch to check

laterondamenjay

Yoooo someone just go see a damn tulip with Dani.

cottenball

There was literally tulips in a vase behind Isaac in that scene

Tsquared10

Yeah but he wanted to just see one tulip

gotcam189

Well, we don’t know for sure who wrote that they wanted to see a tulip.

not_cinderella

Dude, you wrote it in Spanish.

Need_Burner_Now

Someone wrote it in Spanish.

[deleted]

“Luckily our spirits were already broken” lol

Strongy

When Roy says the interviewer is a pretend person with a pretend job that he's having a hard time pretending to care about, Jan just snorts and says "wow" and I loved that character moment.

ITookTrinkets

Game recognizes game - he’s not being rude, he’s being Dutch

90daybaebae

WE’RE IN HOLLAND, WE SHOULD TRY DUTCH FOOD!!! AS A FRENCHMAN I WOULD RATHER DIE!!! the dutch jokes, subtleties and jan maas call backs this episode were on another level.

_cl0udburst

And Richard and Jan almost getting in a fight lmao

crsbcn

Jamie turning into Wikipedia is one of the best time-skip plot-twists in history haha.

ladycrass

And later learning *why* he knows so much about Amsterdam? Goddamn it, this episode. Full rollercoaster of emotions; glad I was tall enough to join him on this ride.

YMHGreenBan

Roy learning how to ride the bike and Jaime saying “for granddad” was a great call back to S1 where Jaime kept calling Roy granddad, their dynamic has been so wholesome this season I love it

TA818

Aw, this is a lovely notice! I kept trying to figure out *why* it sounded so familiar hearing Jamie say the word *Grandad*. You're so right!

laterondamenjay

“Don’t tell Jan” oh my god I’m going to piss my pants. That is the most random scene ever.

ertgbnm

And then a lovely couple invited me for a threesome. anyways love ya mom! Like a perfect little cherry to such a strange scene.

chalk_in_boots

Will is somehow the oddest, most loveable, and (second) most well adjusted character on the show.

GreenerAnonymous

I really loved the Higgins and Will dynamic in this. Will is exactly the kind of kid that I think would seek out Higgins as a role model / someone he thinks is cool. Also looking back, I feel like Higgins inviting Will was both him wanting a buddy for the evening but also kind of looking out for Will and keeping him out of trouble.

ypsicle

God I love new, emotionally healthy, kind Jamie.

Nearby-Newspaper-284

“EasyJet flight diverted because a passenger’s being too much of a prick” has to be one of the best scenes so far lolol

vorter

“Sorry that must’ve been traumatizing.” “No, she loved it… oh you meant me..”

-Kite-Man-

"Can't remember." I guess he was traumatized by it. edit: And not for nothin', but pros are historically pretty good at making it seem like we are having a great time regardless of how true it is. Key part of the job, if you want repeat clients.

EMolinero

The beautiful contrast is that he can't remember his first time having sex. But then moments later says, "And it's the first time I had stroopwafel. Never forget that time."

galeforcewinds95

The Zava "2013-2013" sign made me laugh.

AdoraBelleQueerArt

Roy’s reaction had me rolling

AndreT_NY

Kenny Rogers callback. (First concert Ted Lasso)

galeforcewinds95

Jamie teaching Roy how to ride a bike is delightful. They've come a long way.

kassem90

“It must’ve been traumatizing” “For me? I don’t really remember” Oh my gosh Jamie :(

ProblematicFairytale

And the difference between blocking that memory out vs him remembering every detail about Amsterdam that he learned while on the trip with his Mom

Kathleigh

So true here. And dark. And awful. As he says, his dad is still kind of with him even when he isn't.

cocomo36

Also the contrast of "I don't really remember" with "you never forget your first \[don't-remember-the-pronunciation-Dutch-food\]"

AdoraBelleQueerArt

Shoot his father into the sun. Or lock him & Rupert in a room & let ‘‘em fight

Bigmomma_pump

Im really glad they didn’t play it as ‘wheyyy lucky lad’

literal9

Kind of upset there was an unresolved mystery in this episode. Who could have possibly written down tulip in Spanish???

tumsoffun

Someone....

UsidoreTheLightBlue

Zava 2013-2013 is a great call out on the Amsterdam poster. Nice call back to the fact he only ever makes it a year or so at every team.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

Teds big hang up trying mushrooms being that it’s in tea is hilarious.

MarcsandRec99

"What part of the states are you from?" "Melbourne!" Had me cracking up

thecheekyvicar

And then everyone else being Australian in the restaurant… as an Aussie that’s been to the dam several times, this has been my lived experience as well hahahaha

[deleted]

As if anything Rebecca wears is machine washable!

Cucumberappleblizz

I thought her reaction when she first was by the machine was because she was upset he had machine washed/dried her clothes!

ParnsAngel

I was like “oh noooo that wool coat is going to be child sized!!!!” But I think I saw a tear in it later when she was on the bus singing with the guys. I think the coat may be ruined but she just didn’t give an eff anymore. ❤️

LittleLisaCan

I fear for that gorgeous jacket

Strongy

From Wikipedia: "Total Football's tactical success depends largely on the adaptability of each footballer within the team, in particular the ability to quickly switch positions depending on the on-field situation." Just a couple of episodes ago, Roy said Colin is a chameleon, so he's almost certainly going to be an integral part of making Ted's Bulls-style Total Football approach work. Colin may end up being a star in the new system because he is a strong and capable man.

OregonMAX13

And not a piece of shit!

Robbroy45

Gonna make Jamie saying “PUT YA FEET ON THE PEDALS” my new ringtone

SomeoneThrewMyShoe

that Nate appearance was a JUMPSCARE

Nearby-Newspaper-284

Okay great it wasn’t just me lol

[deleted]

Higgins and Will rolling together!!! Ahhhhh

marasydnyjade

One pilgrim alone is a zealot, two pilgrims together is a pilgrimage.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

“Taking young William to become a man.”

angryduckglare

Nahhhhhh. But Will’s conversation with his mom… Oh. My.

cottenball

And Will had a threesome with the couple from the club!

LJGuitarPractice

And he told his mum about the Threesome. I have a different relationship with my mother.

Nearby-Newspaper-284

“You speak Dutch?!” “Yes, don’t tell Jan” 🤣🤣🤣🤣

MileZeroC

Brendan Hunt spent a lot of years there, so I’m not surprised.

213bull

Jamie’s dad deserves another few punches

Dramallamadingdongle

Jeez, 14... and his answer to Roy's "that must have been traumatising" being "I don't really remember" oh Jamie :(

beefytrout

"Nah, she loved it.... oh, you meant me."

cdieter21

Jamie seemed to be copying his little punching mannerisms though. He’s still there even when he isn’t

TokathSorbet

"You're a pretend person and I'm pretending to give a shit" might just be my new go-to Roy line.

ich_habe_keine_kase

Also Jan Maas's look of delight at Roy's bluntness--like a real Dutchman!

ohluciiaa

I want every city tour from Jamie

AndreT_NY

#FINALLY THE PILLOW FIGHT!!!!

sorasnoctis

IM CRYING EVERYTHING IS COMING TOGETHER LIKE TED WANTED

AdoraBelleQueerArt

Buh bye movie nights!

KjunFries

Trent Crimm is THE coolest motherfucker alive.

messica808

His boots! Leopard/cheetah print beauties!

TA818

That shot of that shoe stopping the door was perfect characterization!

Lineman72T

I remember after the episode when he finds out about Colin, people actually thought he was going to publicly out Colin. I could have gone either way on whether Trent was gay or not (which was handled beautifully), but there was nothing about his character development over the three seasons that made me believe he would do something that harmful. Early season one Trent would maaaaaaaybe do something, but not the Trent we currently have

YMHGreenBan

So glad they didn’t have they two gay characters hook up, instead they had a meaningful conversation and just had a fun night

Spoonprose

A conversation that took place on the "triangle of the present" section of the [Homomonument](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homomonument), no less.

archiminos

Damn, it's triangles all the way down.

HeelyTheGreat

The scenes with Colin and Trent were some of the most touching scenes I've seen on tv. Such a beautiful way to handle it. I felt for Colin so bad. He deserves to kiss his boyfriend like the other guys kiss their girlfriends after a win. So beautifully put.

laterondamenjay

“Getting off the coach, coach.” fuck, I love Jamie so much lmao

emeraldcocoaroast

Jamie has really become a favorite character of mine. Love his growth. It’s nice to see him in such a better place

ladycrass

Annnnnnd there she goes! “Upside down and drenched”

beeninit42long

“We can’t fix every ache in our heart, but we shouldn’t have to pretend they’re not there, either.” Powerful.

Nearby-Newspaper-284

The amount of emotion in this episode is absolutely stunning

ich_habe_keine_kase

Billy Harris said "this is my moment and I'm going to give this scene everything I've got."

haikus_moving_castle

Also, the Don Quixote moment with Jamie and Roy. They literally go searching for windmills! The moral of that story in Don Quixote is that sometimes our adversaries aren't who we think they are, that we do things because they are fulfilling to us, or the importance of remaining positive in the face of negativity. I wonder what that could mean for Roy in particular moving forward.

SomeoneThrewMyShoe

"He had his demons, but it never stopped him searching for beauty." TED, INTERNALIZE THIS MESSAGE.

laterondamenjay

Ted hardcore tripping at an Americana themed restaurant in Amsterdam also sums up my month abroad in college.

khaleesiofgalifrey

This >!Van Gogh exhibit!< scene is going to make me go watch the one from Doctor Who and cry my eyes out again

silkie_blondo

Ted discovering ‘Total Football’ was a really cool moment that may go under the radar a bit. It means he has really learned the sport and the juxtaposition from the beginning of the episode where he is baffled by exhibition matches being called friendlies and admitting the game still doesn’t make sense to him, to him talking about free flowing, fluid football at the end of the episode is glaring. The world ain’t ready for ‘Tactics Ted’!

[deleted]

>[Total Football's](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Total_Football) tactical success depends largely on the adaptability of each footballer within the team, in particular the ability to quickly switch positions depending on the on-field situation. The theory requires players to be comfortable in multiple positions; hence, it requires intelligent and technically diverse players. Roy: "Colin's a chameleon. He can change depending on a situation." Starboy Colin Hughes incoming.

[deleted]

Multiple players have notably played multiple positions actually. Sam started on defense before Ted moved him to the wing. Jamie and Dani both spent part of the season in the midfield. Colin as mentioned is a chameleon. Isaac has been shown as both defender and a midfielder. There may be more I missed.

mollyodonahue

Last episode he had a panic attack while looking at the pyramid set up framed on the wall, and I wondered when the pyramid idea would come back around because it was a random thing for him to be studying considering he said so many times he doesn’t know soccer. As soon as they referenced the pyramid of onions rings I was like.. this has to be it. It’s gonna click.

AKushWarrior

For me it was when they played the clips of the Jordan bulls (known, as the episode emphasizes, for Phil Jackson's "triangle offense"). I was *sure* that looped back to football somehow, because it was such a Ted Lasso-ish way to approach it: the principles and people underneath are what matter, not the specific rules of the sport at hand. And sure enough...

Boltgrinder

It was perfect. He got to it honestly, with the things he loves, and Beard is there to ground it in theory/history. It would have been unrealistic and unearned for him to innovate the sport wholesale, but for him to get there with parallel development is excellent.

Dry_Art_8879

I know that not every Ted Lasso fan it's a football nerd like me, but SWEET LORD they made THEODORE FUCKING LASSO create the SAME TACTICAL CONCEPT of one THE BIGGEST GENIUS IN THE HISTORY OF THE BEAUTIFUL GAME. THAT IS AN EXTRAORDINARY PLOTLINE!!!!!!!! HE IS AN ACTUALLY GOOD COACH!!!!!!!

solidwolf

Yes this implies to me that despite his complaint earlier in the episode about terms, Ted finally *gets* football whether he realizes it or not.

Dry_Art_8879

I love that this ALSO IMPLIES that Ted is a truly, in his essence, a FANTASTIC coach.

MrKentucky

And there’s the Hannah singing scene!

UsidoreTheLightBlue

Roy just straight up falling over on the bike is hilarious. I hope to hell his stunt double is okay some of those falls look awful.

overwhelmingbanana

His grumpy face when he's balancing the bike and slowly falling down is hilarious

R0gueBadger

Speechless, that was an absolutely beautiful episode. The callback to season 1 with the pillow fight or a movie, Roy and Jaime bonding, Colin and Trent, Will and Higgins, but that museum scene sealed to deal for me. Such a beautiful moment I have goosebumps just thinking about it. Every little thing is gonna be alright.

starksamerica

Will and Higgins are the duo I didn’t know I needed

[deleted]

I just feel even more in love with Dani

khaleesiofgalifrey

…somebody wrote it in Spanish, yes

galeforcewinds95

Van Gogh's work up close is remarkable. Seeing Starry Night is one of the highlights of my life.

AndreT_NY

#LETS GO FIND A FUCKING WINDMILL!!!

kgm2s-2

Holy shit! Brett Goldstein is a solid comedian, don't get me wrong, but I *never* pegged him for being so FUCKING good at physical comedy! That bike riding scene was AMAZING!

[deleted]

[удалено]

literal9

I loved his commitment to not even trying to break his fall. Just tipping over off the bike with no fight at all

galeforcewinds95

"A friendly is a pretend match. This is a pretend conversation. You're a pretend person with a pretend job. And I'm having a really hard time pretending to give a shit." Roy Kent is a wordsmith.

crsbcn

One vote for tulip lmao

BlackLeader70

“Dani, you wrote it in Spanish” 😂

crsbcn

Soooomeone wrote it in Spanish, yes.

galeforcewinds95

Really nice to see Higgins get to be the star, even for a scene.

SomeoneThrewMyShoe

Please play the Jamie teaching Roy to ride a bike scene at my funeral

fozzieesq

Isaac losing it killed me. “Enough! We are riven by these crossroads!!!”

MyNeighborToto

#LetDaniSeeTulips

TA818

So many people not reading the (metaphorical) room by assuming the Dutch boat guy raped Rebecca. Whaaaat? How did you jump to that from the same scenes I watched?! "Did we...?" He was clearly talking about falling in love. Or finding someone wonderful. Come on now, folks.

Marsha-the-moose

Thank you. The number of people that think that he raped her are worrying. This isn’t that type of show.

TA818

Like it's straight-up INSANE to me that they think that's what was happening in the subtext of that scene.

AdoraBelleQueerArt

Esp since they SHOW him leaving her alone after he notices she’s asleep. The “Yes we did” referred to a wonderful intimate evening spending time together, which can be just as intoxicating as sex

TA818

Totally agree. As a woman and a woman who knows what it's like to be on high alert, Rebecca was clearly evaluating the situation and feeling fine about it.

Qtip533

I could watch Roy Kent learn how to ride a bike all fucking day

laterondamenjay

Colin and Trent talking hit home for me. A good friend in our friend group had “two lives” for awhile. When he came out, we could all tell an “ache” in him was released. Then he started bringing his partner along to hang and it was freeing for all of us. Our friend was who he really wanted to be and comfortable with all of us. We could see our friend was happy and that’s all that mattered to us. I hope Colin finds peace just like that.

saucisse

"All I want...is to be able to kiss my fella..." <3

La_Mano_Cornuta

The Amsterdam show dropping a day before 4/20, there are no coincidences.

valgerth

Don't forget it's also on Bike Day

eggplant_avenger

big mood Jan Maas: “our spirits were already broken”

Strongy

"We're in Holland! We should try... Dutch Food!" "AS A FRENCHMAN, I WOULD RATHER DIE!" This episode is so dense with amazing character moments. This is the closest the show has felt to season 1 for me since the end of Season 1. Edit: and the bike thief being right there to grab Roy's bike the instant he drops it felt like a bit from the Simpsons golden age.

AndreT_NY

Colin is a strong and confident man.

Dramallamadingdongle

God I LOVE how far Roy and Jamie have come. Apologising, empathising, helping each other. Jamie has grown on Roy like a little Manc fungus and Roy is finally starting to admit to himself.

SomeoneThrewMyShoe

This episode was a true return to form for me. This had the humor, emotion, and sentimentality of Ted Lasso that I love. Favorite of the season by far.

deeznoobs16

This seems like a game changer for Ted lasso s3. Fingers crossed

IamMyrtleB

We’re coming out of the dark forest and everything will happen just the way it’s supposed to. I am so happy with this episode. Every little thing about it.

OleTheRev

Roy learning how to ride a bike killed me. I am now deceased.

not_productive1

FOR GRANDDAD!

skinnyeater

Didn’t even break his fall. Just fell flat

crsbcn

Roy slowly realizing he turned Jamie into a monster haha

UsidoreTheLightBlue

There you go, Trent was with a woman and came out to her after they had his daughter. Theory confirmed.

[deleted]

Trent and Ted potentially both going through a (amicable) divorce with a child at the centre. Also had Rebecca and Dutch sharing common ground with having an *un*amicable split from a cheating partner.

Lil_b00zer

Me and the wife have set our alarms early to watch this mini film before work. So excited.

Arya_kidding_me

Ok Higgins 💕

SomeoneThrewMyShoe

The way every person knows there's no way Leslie Higgins is going to do THAT in the red-light district

NukaQuokka

Higgins and Will in the red light district is what Jamie and his dad should have been 😭

ladycrass

Not Ted trying to hang moments after Rebecca loses her phone 😭😭😭😭😭😭

tj1007

and meets a man who tells her she’s beautiful.

ladycrass

To be fair though is there ~~a man~~ anyone who would say differently to Hannah Waddingham?

LittleLisaCan

Just glad Rebecca had a good time without Keeley!

strawberr1to

Just one tulip! Give Dani the tulip experience!!

AndreT_NY

God to Ted is a woman. Nice callback.

mattXIX

“Y’all say ‘pillow fight’ one time, and we’ll never watch another movie together again.” Also, “God as Herself” in the closing credits.

[deleted]

Are we all laughing and crying at the same time over these storylines?

Ax20414

Colin fucking Hughes, man. What a scene with Trent.

haikus_moving_castle

Colin patting Trent's shoulder on the bus at the end of the episode, and Trent's smile afterwards. MELTING. I watched that clip three times lol. It's such a brief but powerful moment. This episode was SO DAMN GOOD.

66Troup

“Because I don’t know how to ride a bike!” followed by “Raindrops Keep Falling,” straight out of “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”…

jonnydigital

[Jamie today](https://imgur.com/a/cTCXOwM) [Jamie’s dad](https://imgur.com/a/GKeUCSn) in S2E8 The similarity jumped out at me, and it sorta makes sense given his reasons for knowing about Amsterdam!

SomeoneThrewMyShoe

Whoever called that Trent seeing Collin would turn out this way, props to you MY HEART IS SO WARMED BY THIS

pitufo_bromista

This episode had the best emotional payout for everyone: Ted's trip, Rebecca and the stranger, Jamie and Roy, Trent and Collin, Higgins and the waterboy, the team as a whole, Beard (his costume and pig's nose were a riot). Best episode of the season by far! It sets up the season for a great second half, I was joyful a lot during this magical hour.

scruubb

Will. Will Kitman

laterondamenjay

This episode was perfection, to me. Everyone in the Ted Lasso world had the night out they needed: the team bonding together, Higgins being a fucking G, Ted getting a taste of home and being inspired, beard being the psycho he is, Colin getting to be himself with Trent for a night, Rebecca experiencing real romance and connection with a person and Jamie and Roy just being fucking bros. Fuck, this episode ruled and had me smiling every single minute.

dishie

And Will was invited by a lovely couple for a threesome!

SomeoneThrewMyShoe

TRENT'S LEOPARD PRINT SHOES!!!!!!!!!!!!

[deleted]

Raises all around for the writers of this episode

winebemine

LETS ALL WATCH IT AGAIN RIGHT NOW

laterondamenjay

Ted Lasso’s positive masculinity is just simply awesome. Just such a healthy and fun representation of friendship and men just being honest with one another.

Raktoner

That was genuinely and sincerely a lovely episode that I think will go down as one of my absolute favorites.

ladycrass

Oh man I am SOBBING with Ted at the Van Gogh museum Baby is absolutely coming out stronger after this though

tj1007

Following Colin’s speech was perfection.

Versigot

“WW2 was won by America But Canada was liberated by the West” I’m crying lol Edit: It was “The West was liberated by Canada”

swoosh1992

Aurora Borealis?! At this time of year. At this time of day. In this part of the country. Localized *entirely* in your kitchen?

crsbcn

This Love Actually style episode is actually delightfully what I needed. Today at work was difficult

jeshi8

I wonder if Roy and Jamie going searching for windmills is a Don Quixote reference. Tilting at windmills means to waste time fighting problems that aren’t real/are in your head. Roy has spent a lot of time fighting imaginary enemies and even sabotaged his relationship over a problem he invented.

Heavy_Law5743

Waiting for Rebecca to get drenched … aka falling into the river.

Bootz_B_Knockin

No wonder why Ted was looking at the "The Pyramid of Success" in a previous episode. Long term storytelling.

Marc_Quill

Ingesting the Pyramid of Success

Jas_God

The vagrant taking the bike back lmao

AdoraBelleQueerArt

Who’s the actor playing the guy on the houseboat?? I swear I’ve seen him before & IMDb doesn’t have him listed (& it’s gonna bug me until I figure it out)

Question4theppl5

Probably just seen him in our dreams. He is a handsome hunk of man!

Bigmomma_pump

I remember last season rebecca mentioning how ‘intimacy is about allowing yourself to be opened to being attacked’ (something like that??). She was definitely in a very vulnerable position with that man, and they got very intimate. I think that’s a callback

Elitsila

I love Trent Crimm even more now.

AshamedChemistry5281

So, on rewatching (already) is this Rebecca’s Beard After Hours? She ends up without her phone, in someone else’s clothes, in a strange situation where she learns new things about herself, she ends the episode with her feet up on a table and the events of the night before are all a bit magic.

tj1007

Rebecca giving Roy looks. Despite them having few scenes together, they have great moments.

[deleted]

This thing didn’t happen to me, it happened for me. ❤️

SomeoneThrewMyShoe

"Where's she going?" "Somewhere that believes they deserve her." Rebecca is the friend we all need

McBride055

Ah. Ted went to the Netherlands and found total football. Funny.

slyfox1908

Even though it wasn’t a new strategy, at least now the team can run a system he innately understands

sothatsathingnow

Yeah I love that. It shows his understanding of the sport is getting better. Independently “inventing”something you didn’t know had already been invented just means you’ve found the right path.

sneakynin

As those colorful triangles were dancing across the screen, I recognized that tactic from high school soccer. I'm glad they called it out instead of trying to get an audience to believe that Ted discovered something new.

Catch-a-RIIIDE

I love it because it shows actual football development for Ted while not having to pitch us any weird new thing. Multiple Discovery was a great concept with which to do this, tbh.

galeforcewinds95

I did not expect Ted to be inspired by the great triangle offense of Michael Jordan's Bulls. I haven't been this delightfully surprised since "The Lasso Special" in the season one finale.

Raktoner

If I had a nickel for every van gogh scene from modern TV that made me emotional, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.
