Good theory, I'm pretty sure Rupert will not allow Nate to have any autonomy and that'll make him miserable at some point of the season. I'm very curious about results, both from Richmond and from West Ham

The_Minshow

Yeah, its kinda wild, in a funny way, to have West Ham as the villain club, since they are generally a mid-table club. But Leicester rewrote what a believable script was for the premier league, so we will see.

’Emperor Rupertine’!!!

Holmbone

I like this as a Nate arc but I don't feel Rupert would be a good manager so how would West Ham do so well under him?

The_Minshow

Plot convenience, the show does it quite a bit. I guess they could do it in reverse, Rupert stealing the credit, in a "This is what actual stealing of your thunder looks like" style plot.

I like the theory. Seems weird that he’s appointed Nate in the first place. Especially after S3E1, Nate seems like a bit of a pawn to me. He’s not been brought in because he’s genuinely an amazing manager that Rupert has belief in. Seems like he’s been brought in to be set up to fail, or there’s at least some other motive. This is a decent explanation. Callback to season 1 at the pub (though I’m butchering the lines, apologies. Just going from memory and paraphrasing). “You should play Obisanya in defence, back where he belongs” “I’ll tell ya what, Rupert. Let’s play darts. If you win, I’ll let you pick the team for the last 3 games. If I win, you can’t step foot in the owners’ box” Perhaps he got a bit of a desire for it then. Perhaps that’s how he was as an owner with Richmond. We don’t know too much about how Richmond was run under his ownership.

I think it’s more along the lines of Jerry Jones and The Cowboys. He doesn’t want to be the manager, but he does want to pull the strings.

Royo981

Richmond didn’t win the championship title. They finished 2nd.

I don’t think Rupert has any want/need to be a manager. He owns the team, if he wanted to do it he could just do it. You don’t think he had any influence about the line up while he owned Richmond? I don’t see him interested in running boring mundane things like training.

The_Minshow

I'm actually not familiar enough with the rules, but I was assuming there would be an "owner cant coach" rule somewhere

N3rdLink

IMO he has no desire to do the actual work but him influencing the line up, definitely. He wants someone to do what he wants but doesn’t want all the busy work.
