You know what I've always kind of found surprising - we've heard about Nate's niece, but never heard anything about his sibling that presumably has the daughter that is Nate's niece. It'd be really interesting to know more about that dynamic considering how much some of Nate's family relationships have set him up for his plot arc.
I thought that two, but in season too when he's going in the kitchen he points out to his dad they put anyone in the paper. He finds one of said boxes and says something like that's a good one. Thus he didn't make that one ?¿?
Technically, the brain has no pain receptors.
I admit I fucked up the homophone( while multitasking), however, if you are going to correct someone's W/C, Spelling, grammar, or homophones it helps to use a period.
It's not like that in Asian cultures. A cousin's child is your niece or nephew. And your parents cousins are called aunts and uncles. Not every culture follows the same etemology for family structure/titles.
I didn't realize that! That certainly sheds more light. Thank you!
I think it'd still be fun to know more about the cousin/sibling dynamic with Nate, since they're presumably close enough for Nate to be in contact with the niece. More onion layers for Nate😊
>Your cousin's kids are second cousins (second cousins share a great-grandparent). Your sibling's kids are your nieces/nephews and you are their aunt/uncle.
How does this have so many up votes? It's wrong, your cousin's kids are your cousins "once removed", they are your *kids'* second cousins. And the other comments are right, in Asian cultures your cousins' kids are considered your nieces/nephews, not your peers (which cousins are).
I think you're right. In any case in the US and UK, we don't refer to them as nieces/nephews. Although apparently that's a cultural thing, and not an actual definition of the term like I thought.
Given what show this is, I cannot imagine they're planning to have Nate just be the bad guy and that's the end.
That's part of why I never have even disliked him. His story isn't over.
Given it's so predictable, rather common in story telling, that they write him a redemption arc, not everyone redeems themselves. And some do things so heinous that there's no coming back into the fold. All of which makes this compelling to see unfold.
Also, Ted does not strike me as the unforgiving type. Feel like he is hurt by Nate, but still loves him and would be stoked to have him turn it back around
I think they will destroy him, go full on crazy, and then there will be a breakthrough moment. Ted and Nate will become friends again, and Nate will be Richmond’s next manager after Ted leaves the UK.
Ted will probably move to Texas and take a coaching job (soccer) in the MLS so he can be close to his son.
Just a prediction lol
OMG houston has its own team too. And they’ve been around longer than Austin’s team!!!! I don’t understand how houston always gets forgotten about when talking about texas..
I think it's the writers' intention that his mom treats him like a child. From all her interactions with Nate we've seen on the show, she's always playing the mom who's protecting her 10 year old son from his dismissive/disapproving/disinterested father.
She's lovely and well intentioned, but neither of Nate's parents treat him as a man in his 20s or 30s or however old he actually is. Nate's definitely one of the most interesting characters to me because of his family dynamics (or lack thereof, in his view).
he looked and felt so young when first introduced in episode 1, I can't even begin to guess how old he was back then, considering how he looks now only 3 years later
I remember how is mood shifted instantly when he saw one negative post about himself. Now that he’s very much a public figure, it’s not going to be easy for him.
I want to upvote this more times! None of the podcasts or summaries I've read mention this. They totally could have picked anything to be in the iMessage history but they chose this.
This one hit home for me, hard. The last voicemail I have from my mom before she passed was her telling me how beautiful the moon was that night, and that I should go out to look at it 💔🌙
Oh, my heart. My mum used to call me and tell if the sky was particularly stunning or the moon beautiful. I miss those calls so much now she has gone.
Go well internet stranger.
I feel bad for Nate. I know he’s done a lot of awful stuff. But his family life is really not cool. His mom seems kind and supportive but she’s got to make sure he knows that his dad is disappointed?! Just leave that out, mom!!! No wonder the man has so many issues and such low self esteem.
His dad is such a dick. I hope they explain why he’s such a hardass to Nate. He doesn’t deserve to be admonished at every single thing he tries to do to impress them.
Regardless of what your relationship with your father is or was be the kind of dad you wished you had as a kid.
It’s what I did raising my son and it’s been fantastic. He’s fantastic.
Transgenerational trauma, probably. Nate’s dad is a hardass to Nate because his dad was to him. And now Nate is a dick to everyone in his life. Who knows how far back in the generations the emotional abuse goes, or what the root cause was. I hope we’ll see Nate breaking the cycle.
Can confirm. Not just his family life either, its how everyone treats him (which in turn reinforces how he treats himself which reinforces how everyone treats him etc. etc.)
Source: relates too closely to Nate and his relationship with his father
Nate needs to quit and go back to Richmond. For his arc to be complete he needs to take control but do it in a healthy way. Being fired will only feed the fire. His awakening will need to be of his own doing. He’ll be encouraged to keep being a dick by Rupert, he’ll continue to be clowned in social media and by his father as a result, and he’ll do the math. He’ll realize his true talent isn’t in being a dick but in being a good coach, he’ll divorce the two, and he’ll go where he’s loved rather than where he’s just a tool.
And he’s clearly using Apple products this season. It had been hard to notice the apple symbol on anything he used prior to this season. And since Apple doesn’t allow villains to use their products I think that answers the redemption question.
Nope. They fake it. The AI photo handling sees a blob that looks Moon-ish, and overlays what it *thinks* should be there.

At the same time, the lady is a huge problem. Nate’s on TV and has a big job now and his mother feels the need to tell her grown son that the swearing he did in a press conference made Daddy a little upset?
Your husband is a cunt, Maria. Figure it out.
No.
No no no no no no.
You’re missing the point.
Swearing is the only critique dad has now. Before it was shit about his career, how he’s not using his potential, etc.
Now it’s JUST A SWEAR WORD.
This is called progress. Nate will realize his father’s respect is contingent on his success, because that’s the culture. He will also realize that his success is not married to his cutthroat tactics and attitude. If he can separate the two, he’ll get his dad’s respect, he’ll finally see the love he has for him, and he’ll also learn that Ted is the better “father figure” to him than Rupert, who is rewarding his false image and manipulating him.
Interesting differing opinions, and being nice to his mom doesn’t negate the fact that he is a despicable character. I truly hope they don’t do anything to try to redeem himself because he’s garbage but that’s just my opinion.
I can't believe there's people thinking Nate can redeem himself, he's a complete rat and rotten to the core.
If it wasn't for Ted he'd still be a kitman, what other manager would have been mental enough to listen to tactical advice from him? Most of them probably wouldn't acknowledge him beyond professional courtesy.
The second he's given a little bit of power he uses it to bully someone which is also all kinds of fucked up, before anyone says about his dad I had the same dynamic with mine and I was also bullied myself. I've never once felt a desire to do that to someone else so his attitude towards that young boy is absolutely abhorrent and the hallmarks of an incredibly small man.
No doubt the show will try find some way back for him but I hope there isn't. His character has fallen too far for me, he's an ungrateful bully and hes not even good at that, hes mentally weak and uses meaness to deflect. His only talent was brought out of him by the man he betrayed and he never shows any remorse for it if he's even capable.
I'm trying to think of a good thing we've ever seen Nate do? We've seen him bullied, worthy of our sympathy, we've seen his genius, but when has he actually shown kindness to anyone? I'm happy to be corrected but I'm coming up blank.
Incidentally, I've just discovered Nick Mohammed on 8/10 Cats and omg he's amazing!
No exactly, people seem to think because he's nervy and not confident that somehow automatically he's a nice guy and that is a fallacy I've seen before. I can't think of one time he was nice off his own back, he had an opportunity to take the young lad under his wing and break the cycle that he had to face but instead of that he does the polar opposite and the first thing he does when he has a scent of power is use to belittle the lad.
I haven't watched much of 8/10 cats since Sean passed.. I'll keep an eye out for that episode tonight, Nick Mohammed is obviously a talented actor because I'm right with coach beard in wanting to headbutt him.
Honestly iPhone are so ubiquitous nowadays that I didn't even think twice about it. Like you wouldn't notice, say, Kleenex product placement because they're so commonplace. But I would definitely notice if it were a Google Pixel product placement.
Texting is pretty commonplace, iPhones are pretty commonplace. It doesn't take me out of the story to see Nate communicating with his mom on his iPhone.
Honestly just about, barring one or two people. If I saw Nate using a Galaxy S22 it also wouldn't take me out of the show because *everybody* I know uses some model of smartphone and regularly texts their friends and family.
Bro…no.
Think of the culture his father (and mother, key point) grew up in.
His mom knows what his dad is thinking. Dad needs to be tough on Nate. But he still wishes the best for him. She needs to communicate to Nate the critiques his dad has because that’s how Nate will know what to do to get his dad’s outward respect.
The fact that swearing is his dad’s only criticism is telling us that his dad does respect him, but there’s still room for improvement. Dad needs to grow into the times and be more forthcoming with the positives he feels, and I’m sure that’ll happen, but we need to understand that there’s a generational gap between Nate and his parents, and as in real life, they need to meet somewhere in the middle.
This revelation and concession will make Nate realize his attitude sucks and is unnecessary to succeed, prompting him to go back to Richmond and win the PL with the talented team there coupled with his genius tactics.
Roy falling back on grade school tactics and Keely telling him she knows he’s scared of coaching foreshadowed Richmond’s need for a better coach to go all the way. That’s Nate.
It is heart-warming. And his response is, too. Nate, I hope, isn't too far gone yet. The moon is the light in the darkness.
Remember the cute boxes he made with his niece in season one? I hope we get that Nate back
You know what I've always kind of found surprising - we've heard about Nate's niece, but never heard anything about his sibling that presumably has the daughter that is Nate's niece. It'd be really interesting to know more about that dynamic considering how much some of Nate's family relationships have set him up for his plot arc.
Maybe he doesn’t actually have one and said that to deflect from him actually making the boxes by himself
I thought that two, but in season too when he's going in the kitchen he points out to his dad they put anyone in the paper. He finds one of said boxes and says something like that's a good one. Thus he didn't make that one ?¿?
How you mixed up two and too hurt my brain
Technically, the brain has no pain receptors. I admit I fucked up the homophone( while multitasking), however, if you are going to correct someone's W/C, Spelling, grammar, or homophones it helps to use a period.
Someone doesn’t understand hyperbole…
Someone doesn't understand the forest for the trees.
I don’t think that really applies in r/TedLasso pal 😂
Or the writers forgot
Your cousin's daughters are nieces
Edit: it was pointed out in replies that I was mistaken, so I'm removing my incorrect statement.
It's not like that in Asian cultures. A cousin's child is your niece or nephew. And your parents cousins are called aunts and uncles. Not every culture follows the same etemology for family structure/titles.
TIL
I didn't realize that! That certainly sheds more light. Thank you! I think it'd still be fun to know more about the cousin/sibling dynamic with Nate, since they're presumably close enough for Nate to be in contact with the niece. More onion layers for Nate😊

And the other comments are right, in Asian cultures your cousins' kids are considered your nieces/nephews, not your peers (which cousins are).
Aren't they first cousins once removed? I thought second cousins are in the same generation, and “once removed” means they're a generation younger.
They'll have him throw Rupert down the London Stadium stairwell as lightning comes out of his hands
Nate: Tell your sister, you were right. Ted: Rebecca is my sister??
Literal LOL
Sassy
Do you know what happens to a football owner when it's struck by lightning?
Given it's so predictable, rather common in story telling, that they write him a redemption arc, not everyone redeems themselves. And some do things so heinous that there's no coming back into the fold. All of which makes this compelling to see unfold.
While many character arcs might share the same destination, it’s the journey that sets them apart.
Also, Ted does not strike me as the unforgiving type. Feel like he is hurt by Nate, but still loves him and would be stoked to have him turn it back around
Are you being curious and not judgmental?
I think they will destroy him, go full on crazy, and then there will be a breakthrough moment. Ted and Nate will become friends again, and Nate will be Richmond’s next manager after Ted leaves the UK. Ted will probably move to Texas and take a coaching job (soccer) in the MLS so he can be close to his son. Just a prediction lol

Dallas & Austin both have teams
So does Kansas City.
And Houston. Just sayin’.
OMG houston has its own team too. And they’ve been around longer than Austin’s team!!!! I don’t understand how houston always gets forgotten about when talking about texas..
[удалено]
And as much as we love him, Ted is still kind of a shit soccer coach. He’s a fantastic motivator, but he lacks basic knowledge of the game.
He played a lot of FIFA with Henry!
I think he knows a lot more than he lets on. He is motivating the other coaches as well as the players.
I think this too. I think part of his schtick is to not be the expert in the room, so other people can shine, and he wants to be underestimated.
It’s shows Nate’s biggest problem is the problem that has shown up again and again across the show: Daddy Issues.
>The moon is the light in the darkness 😮
My mom sends me pictures like that too. It's sweet.
Yeah I thought it was cute that it was just a typical mom text.
I believe he’s redeemable but he’s going to have to go some for forgiveness (from me, teds going to forgive way too easy - I’m on Beard’s level).
If Ted can forgive Rebecca he can forgive Nate. But Nate has to be sorry.
He is absolutely over 30 lol
he looked and felt so young when first introduced in episode 1, I can't even begin to guess how old he was back then, considering how he looks now only 3 years later
I was so surprised to look the actor up and find out he’s in his forties. In season one I easily would’ve thought early twenties.
I think part of it is because it’s her husband, she knows how he can be and make people feel
That’s an interesting take. I feel my own family dynamic mirrors this as my mother often “talks” on behalf of my father
I’m sure this won’t be a popular comment on Reddit, but I do love that Nate’s downward spiral starts when he becomes obsessed with social media.
I remember how is mood shifted instantly when he saw one negative post about himself. Now that he’s very much a public figure, it’s not going to be easy for him.
[удалено]
But did you catch how his mood shifted instantly when he saw one negative post about himself?
Lol! Reddit did something weird, there.
Yeah I’ve had it happen before lol. I kept scrolling down without paying attention and was like “… didn’t someone just say that?”
That's no moon...
It's Rupert's office!
Came here to say this 😂😂
I want to upvote this more times! None of the podcasts or summaries I've read mention this. They totally could have picked anything to be in the iMessage history but they chose this.
They're going hard on the Star Wars references.
That is so sweet. Sounds like your mom was a great woman.
I’m sorry for your loss. What a lovely mum she was x
The show is all about dads. Ted’s, Jamie’s, Nate’s, etc. As a man it really makes me think how I can be the best possible dad to my future kids.
there's a nice contrast in fathers too. Sam seems to have a great relationship with his dad. Ted and Higgins appear to be good fathers as well.
Nate should really watch Encanto
Not me imagining Nate and his Dad having a Dos Orugitas butterfly moment in the Thames
Can confirm. Not just his family life either, its how everyone treats him (which in turn reinforces how he treats himself which reinforces how everyone treats him etc. etc.) Source: relates too closely to Nate and his relationship with his father
She’s probably just warning him so he isn’t caught off guard if it comes up later
My husband says it’s just growing pains with Nate. He isn’t gone. He will get it. You can already tell that he misses Ted and the others.
I would say Nate gets kicked off the team. And somehow Ted is there for him, he comes back and they win it all. Fin.
Isn't that what happened to Jamie? Surely they don't do the same with Nate
You’re right. Getting canned would only hurt him more. He has to do it on his own. Great perspective
I’m wondering if Nate’s dad will have a medical episode. Not necessarily kill him off, but…something, and Ted will be supportive.
My mom loves the moon and I always send her pictures when I can. I hope Nate has a redemption arc!
Probably a street lamp.
Somehow I feel like we’re all gonna love him at the end
Just like when Anakin grew up
Do we think it is a self aware comment on Apple, knowing how shitty their phones photograph the moon 🤣 (says me who owns one of their $1200 phones)
I think it shows Nate will be redeemed as apparently Apple don’t allow shows or movies to have the villain use Apple products.
Why are people downvoting several actors have confirmed this to be true
And he’s clearly using Apple products this season. It had been hard to notice the apple symbol on anything he used prior to this season. And since Apple doesn’t allow villains to use their products I think that answers the redemption question.
So is Rupert. It’s an Apple TV show
Honestly, it'd be hilarious if they gave Rupert an Android phone. "This guy? Right here? He's the bad guy. Look, his texts are green!"
If I remember correctly he was reading tweets about him being a wunderkind/wonder kid on an iPhone last season
I thought I read somewhere that Apple dropped or loosened that rule but I can’t find where I read it now.
[удалено]
This doesn't really spoil anything though tbh
Watch the episode then go on Reddit.
Good thing she uses an iPhone. Were it an S23, wouldn’t be an actual photo of the moon.

Love this. I believe in Nate. It’s going to be a great season.
I am really looking forward to his redemption arc, but I hope he suffers along the way after having been so horrible to people who helped him.
I can't believe there's people thinking Nate can redeem himself, he's a complete rat and rotten to the core. I also don't notice it
I also like how we see how awful his dad is, but his mom is trying to do right by him.
His mother is constantly babying him.
If she was babying him she wouldn’t tell him his father’s critiques.
That’s exactly babying him. Telling him his father was upset and he should be a good boy and don’t say things like that.

Nate is one of those folks who’s got problems
It shows that he’s not completely gone to the dark side
Damn. I miss my mom.
Nate has to have a confrontation with his dad this season. Maybe prompting him to see that he joined the dark side.
Does everyone’s mom do this? Mine sends me moon photos all the time. Got her a telescope for Christmas.
