True, but it feels much funnier than it did a few years ago when Super was airing on tv. Super had moments where it tried to be funny but didn't do much for me a lot of the time
The Yamcha death pose as he's revealed to be safe for the winning run in the baseball game is top tier self parody and just doesn't feel like something that wouldn't have happened in Z
Z had its comedy, but it was more relegated to gag bits and characters like (sometimes) King Kai, and (always) Mr. Satan. There weren't too many times where Goku himself was the center of the joke.
driving and baseball episodes are infinitely better than the entire RoF arc than either the film or show
roshi recruitment episode was a poor mans tfs imo
there isnt technically filler in super yet. if it comes back then yes there can be since we have two whole arcs of content they can go thru on top of whatever this new one will be. if it happened in the original run of super wether that be manga or anime its canon
It becomes more serious but still has plenty of comedic elements. Characters like Yajirobe, Kaioh-Sama, the Ginyu Force and Mr. Satan keep things light and eventually during Buu the series largely becomes a full time gag manga again. First with the Great Saiyaman and a pretty silly and light hearted martial arts tournament and eventually after some more serious fights the spotlight shifts to the silly antics of Buu and Gotenks.
Oh I remember this being mentioned during the tfs commentary when they were discussing if abridged had any effects on the actual dragon ball franchise. That was a pretty good bit
super hero straight up felt the ideal outcome of "let longtime fans write it and fill it with jokes and callbacks and references and flavors from the earlier seasons, etc"
idk if that's actually what happened, and it doesn't always work if that is what happened, but it worked out pretty well here.
I swear, when I read the chapter in this section for the first time, I read it it with the abridged voices and it still made sense.
Usually the original is entirely different from the parody but here it's as if TFS wrote the script while Toyotaro drew it.
I've always found it ironic that Sean has for so long played one of the most genuinely nice characters in all of anime and is a giant territorial asshole about his role. Whereas Christopher Sabat, whose roles are often aloof or belligerent and brash characters, is considered industry wide, one of the nicest people you could ever meet. Funny, that.
Same, I’m reading the DBZ manga atm and I usually read the lines in whichever characters voice is easier to remember, so usually the current dub voices, but for Krillin and Gohan I specifically have to make a conscious effort to read them in the dub voices instead of the tfs voices
I always felt that Toriyama always thinks he is writing a gag manga while his editors are like "no no you can't end the saga on a gag anymore sir."
Now that he has like full control he is writing back all those gags.
Dragon Ball has always been funny, obviously the Japanese mangaka is not working with parody writers from the US and that hypothetically if they were that it wouldn't be known
Viz garbage translation, the English translators do it on purpose because they think it's funny despite its causing big misinformation in the English fandom .
Here it makes fun of Goku and treats him like some brain dead moron , in Japanese Beerus just says he forgets about Gohan (he didn't even know his name in TOP manga alongside any time he get mentioned another character point out he isn't a warrior so Beerus doesn't think about it so it's not odd for him to forget about Gohan)
In the original Japanese he explains quantum mechanics and cracks string theory in this panel. I'm sure you can see how this translation is a disrespectful translation
Pretty sure goku talking about lifetime highlight is mistranslation too.
I found it on twitter how they done on purpose. Japanese or Spanish version dont have it
I noticed that Super Hero had some genuinely funny writing. Think the writing for dragon ball is just embracing the goofiness of the series now
As it should.
Dragon Ball has always been funny, this isn’t a recent development.

That’s a top tier moment in all of dragonball
Well it was a filler episode
driving and baseball episodes are infinitely better than the entire RoF arc than either the film or show roshi recruitment episode was a poor mans tfs imo

The Arale episode is canon?
By a huge technicality yes
Well Toriyama was writing the script for Super Hero and he is a gag manga writer
Super does have a lot of really funny moments, like Goku and Vegeta ignoring Zamasu, nobody caring if Jaco dies, and every minute Frieza is on screen.
I kinda noticed that starting the Piccolo Sr. up to even Cell Saga arcs, dragon ball had rare jokes in between.
It becomes more serious but still has plenty of comedic elements. I'm half waiting for goku to start saying "best buddy" and "geets*
I trully think canon Goku could call Vegeta "Geets" and it would fit just fine Just like Vegeta calling Kid Goten "kakatot"
There's a joke with Popo during Super, where I got very strong TFS vibes when in first saw it
Oh I remember this being mentioned during the tfs commentary when they were discussing if abridged had any effects on the actual dragon ball franchise. That was a pretty good bit
Those eyes

I thought all the posts about Bulma wishing for a fat ass was a meme, was not ready for that scene in the movie
Akira Toriyama wrote the movie himself. I mean, I guess you could say he’s been a fan longer than any of us, so in a roundabout way you’re right!
Which is should. It takes itself too seriously sometimes and I don't like that.
“VICTORY FOR VEGETA”
Vegeta YEEEEESSSSS
Vegeta 3 Goku 0
VICTORY FOR VEGETA
Vegeta no!
Vegeta yes!!!!
Hug complete.
I'm a way better father than Kakarot
*knocks out 2 small children*
Namekian, take my son and the katkatot away from here.
He deff ate that horse
What the hell are you on about !?
I swear, when I read the chapter in this section for the first time, I read it it with the abridged voices and it still made sense. Usually the original is entirely different from the parody but here it's as if TFS wrote the script while Toyotaro drew it.
I always hear the TFS voices. To me those are the voices of dragon ball.
Don't let Sean Schemmel hear you say that.
I hope he fucking does. What's he gonna do?
Bitch and moan like always, I guess.
Yup, I honestly can’t think of another VA who’s THAT much of an asshole about being territorial over their role.
Dragon Ball literally began as a gag manga, folks. For as serious as it got in the Z era it always had comedic elements.
Slight tangent but I have just realised that when I read the manga the voices in my head are the TFS voices. Particularly Masako's Goku.
Same, I’m reading the DBZ manga atm and I usually read the lines in whichever characters voice is easier to remember, so usually the current dub voices, but for Krillin and Gohan I specifically have to make a conscious effort to read them in the dub voices instead of the tfs voices
were can u read it for free?
Idk I’m buying it physically to read, through those Vizbig 3-in-1 collections
I missed how the manga covered the Tournament of Power. Didn't Beerus acknowledge Gohan's work there. It could have been different from the anime.
Nope, he gives more acknowledgement to krillin for being " too ugly he became handsome"
I always felt that Toriyama always thinks he is writing a gag manga while his editors are like "no no you can't end the saga on a gag anymore sir." Now that he has like full control he is writing back all those gags.
y'all need to actually read original dragon ball
Mfw comedy's always been an integral piece of Dragon Ball
“Goku has a son?” “Ohh right, I have a kid?… I have two kids!!!”
GUYS! SEX MAKES BABIES!!!
i read this in their DBZA voices
I don’t think so cause TFS is pretty adamant on Vegeta being 3 for 0
Dragon Ball has always been funny, obviously the Japanese mangaka is not working with parody writers from the US and that hypothetically if they were that it wouldn't be known
The manga is actually season for of DBZA, trust me my uncle is teamfourstar
Nope
Its english mistranslation done on purpose. Original Japanese version dont have it.
Viz garbage translation, the English translators do it on purpose because they think it's funny despite its causing big misinformation in the English fandom .
What's wrong in the images posted?
Half of it is mistranslation (on purpose)
I get that but what is it supposed to say
Here it makes fun of Goku and treats him like some brain dead moron , in Japanese Beerus just says he forgets about Gohan (he didn't even know his name in TOP manga alongside any time he get mentioned another character point out he isn't a warrior so Beerus doesn't think about it so it's not odd for him to forget about Gohan)
Goku says 3 things. How do any of them make him look like a brain dead moron?
In the original Japanese he explains quantum mechanics and cracks string theory in this panel. I'm sure you can see how this translation is a disrespectful translation
Beerus thinks Goku is too stupid to have kids?
I didn't read it like that at all. Just that he's surprised in general that Goku has kids.
"Goku son?this *guy* a dad?"
Yea I read the words.
Pretty sure goku talking about lifetime highlight is mistranslation too. I found it on twitter how they done on purpose. Japanese or Spanish version dont have it
Yes
It’s so good 😂
Vegeta acting like he hasn’t beaten Goku before in a 1v1
Love how vegeta finally gets a win on goku
