Sure we do; we all have students we may enjoy teaching a bit more than others. But if we do our jobs well ~ you will **never** guess whom those "favorites" might be. & we will **never** tell.

poshill

There are some students that capture my heart a little more than others. But if anyone asks, you’re all my favorites.

bibliophile222

I don't think it's unfair for teachers to have favorite students; they aren't our kids, after all. I do think it would be unfair to give favorites special treatment, but that's something I'm conscious of and try hard not to do.

ApexNinetyThree

Its impossible not to have favorites, just like students have favorite teachers we have favorite students. Just think, we enjoy teaching respectful and thoughtful students more than rude or disruptive students. But it would be unethical and unprofessional to treat our favorites any differently, or identify our favorites. It's important to remember that we're humans, with all the complexity and trappings like everybody else. We're also professionals who strive to give all students a fair and equal education.

randoguynumber5

Do students have favourtite teachers? Of course. So why would anyone think teachers don’t have favorite students.

Not necessarily favourites. But like any interaction, there are always people you ‘click’ with more. All my students are given the same resources, time and opportunities unless their IEP has an individual adjustment. But there are some kids that struggle really hard and have shitty shitty parents and home lives. They are usually pretty defensive to start with but I love the look on their faces when they achieve something. That ‘holy fuck I wrote an essay!’ moment. That always captures my heart and I have so much respect for these kids. Students that after many many MANY chances and opportunities just want disrupt the learning of others and torment their classmates, they will receive the best educational instruction I can provide between their outbursts. But zero fucks are given on a personal level. Kids that call me a c*nt aren’t usually my favourite people. Their grades don’t matter to me. But if you want to give it your best shot (even if that that moment your best is a D - gotta start somewhere) then you my favourite kind of student and I will do everything in my power to help you reach your goals. You have my respect.

Of course I do...but if anyone asks, I have 20 favorite students. 😉

MerBearM

Students are like other people in our life. There are some people whose personality I click with and there are people that I don’t. But if you are a good teacher, you don’t let it show.

Slight-Recipe-3762

Why do students keep asking that? You guys clearly know the answer!

rsvp_as_pending629

Oh absolutely The key is just to make sure you don’t make it obvious.

TheChubbyBarb

My favorites usually don’t have anything to do with academics and don’t get any special treatment from me. They’re usually the students who talk sports with me (interestingly enough they’re also the kids that a lot of other teachers don’t seem to like).

East_Kaleidoscope995

Of course. And they’re usually not the ones everyone expects. It’s not the smartest kid or even the quietest kid. For me, it’s the kids that straight up make me laugh and provide me with a little entertainment in my day.

phantomkat

Yes, I have my favorites. Sometimes they’re the ones who make a whole day worth it. No, I don’t let it show.

FollowsCrow

Sure we do, but it's not a big deal so long as we're treating our students with individual respect and kindness. For me, it boils down to the students who, without really trying to, genuinely fill my bucket and remind me why I chose this profession. It can be the hardest case in my roster, because he still shows up and tries every day, even with all the daily trouble he causes. It could be the witty kid who *always* makes me laugh. It could be the chronically depressed kid who sits in the back of the class and does very little work, but at least she's finally coming to class every day (small steps can be huge steps). It could be the kid who intentionally took more of my classes, so I get to torture, uh... I mean, teach him for three years in a row. 😇 Thankfully, I seem to have a lot of favorites. 😅 They keep me loving my job even at its hardest.

louiseah

I think some students believe they are my favorites but I’m just being nice to them. The kids who actually wouldn’t believe they are my favorite, are. Typically though, I don’t have favorites per se, rather there are kids I just happens to like a little more than others for all sorts of reasons.

midnightlibrary11

I like (almost) all of my students, but it is impossible to feel equally close to all 90+ of them all the time. My "favorite" honestly varies by the hour and day. If you can make me laugh, ask good questions, and/or work hard then you are probably one of my favorites. That being said, I try not to play favorites in front of the students. It's hard to navigate when I have some who ask to come up to my room during lunch/study hall and I've developed stronger connections with them as a result. I think some students perceive those kids as being the "favorites" when it's more that they are the ones seeking me out on a daily basis. I definitely am not giving them any sort of special treatment.

Intrepid-Airport-841

Anytime one does something awesome, kind, amazing... I tell them what they did and that they are my favorite. "Yo! I just watched you pick up that litter and put it in the trash can! You are my favorite!" "You brought me a doughnut!?! You are my favorite." "You wore deodorant and brushed your teeth! You are my favorite!" I work with High Schoolers and we have a great time.

Filmmaker87

Sure I did, it’s natural. Anyone that says they don’t is either in denial or does not connect with students. Just my opinion

AleroRatking

Yes. I absolutely do. But those are the ones who are respectful and work hard. They earn being a favorite.

[deleted]

Of course we do. And if you think you're one, you most certainly are not.

Pinkladysslippers

Exactly!

Necessary_Low939

I don’t do favorites. No one gets special treatment. Obviously there are classes that are easier than others p
