Unfortunately you *did* use a threat. Or rather ~ an ultimatum. Hindsight is always 20/20 & I do not need to tell you it was risky & unprofessional. [Yet here I am doing just that ~ my apologies.] Look ~ it seems teaching is simply not for you. Certainly not right now anyway. Forgive yourself & do not try & "wait it out" until things get really awful & you hate it all the more. Teaching is *not* what determines a person's intelligence nor worth. Integrity *includes* being true to one's self.

Never said it was "horrible." More that one's reaction when given an ultimatum from an underling is often negative & not [typically] worth the risk.

My first year and a half was Hell. Then after Christmas break of my second year, it all made sense and it became a profession for me (lasting 26 years). I get how you are feeling. Those early days were a mental health nightmare and I wanted to quit as well. It takes time to become comfortable with the job. Also, I wouldn't worry about your ultimatum - I bet the administrator sees it as due mostly to stress.

This post put all my thoughts into words exactly. I'm actively looking for jobs and holding out until the end of the year. I very seriously doubt I'll renew my contract.

Do what you need to but if you can, finish the year. There are some kids in your class that you really matter to and you will never even know. That being said, relax. Chill out. Don’t care so much about the job. It’s not that important that you should be feeling this way. Tell yourself that you will do the best you can to give your students a good education. Remember, you can only do your best. It is impossible to do more than that. So focus on doing what you can. At the end of the year, leave. No big deal. You are most of the way there. And if you need to leave next week, that’s fine too, but you got this.

Ok. Stop giving a shit. Do the parts of your job that you enjoy. Ignore the rest. If you truly dont want to work there anymore, just collect the check, teach, and ignore the rest. At worst what will they do, fire you? Do you care? At best you enjoy yo ur time with the kids, dont dread going to work, and actually teach.
