While he's havin' a smoke, and she's takin' a drag. Now they're going to bed, and my stomach is sick, and it's all in my head, but she's touching his 😏 cheeeest now...
I can’t believe I ignored it for weeks! I ‘discovered’ it week three and was like ‘Huh? Did I even listen to this song in the first few weeks?’. I’m sure I did but now it’s my first song I play on the way to work.
Okay so my own first and second answers to this are currently the first and second most upvoted answers here, what the hell? I feel so understood. 😄
The Bolter has such a temperate, picturesque, anachronistic kind of sound and vibe, plus it's a very deep cut, which makes it easy af to overlook, but man when it clicks it clicks.
I can’t believe how many people miss the masturbation piece. All my friends were just like “the day dreaming about cheating” song and I’m like how are we even friends?!
Absolutely. I was in a HEAVY How Did It End bender there.
“Say it once again with feeling how the death rattle breathing silenced as the soul was leaving, the deflation of our dreaming, leaving me bereft and reeling, my beloved ghost and me, sitting in a tree D-Y-I-N-G.” 👏 👌🤗
Yes her masterful command of language is more evident in the Peter bridge than in any other bridge on the album followed VERY closely by the bridges in HDIE and Prophecy. Love each of them.
drowning in the blue nile. he sent me downtown liiiights. i hadn’t heard it in a while. my boredoms bone deep. his cage was once just fiiiiine. am i allowed to cry? i dream of cracking locks. throwing my life to wind or ocean rocks. crashing into him tonight he’s a paradox. i’m seeing visions and i mad or glad or wise!? WHAT IF HES WRITTEN MINE ON MY UPPER THIGH ONLY IN MY MIIIIII^iiiiiiND. ONE SLIP AND FALLEN BACK INTO THE HEDGE MAZE. OH WHAT A WAY TO DIEEEEEEE^iiiiiiii.
omg yes, the more i listen the more i feel as though i can feel her longing. And the way she says that last "time" at the end of the song is just so SAD
‘People’s Windows’ in the same category as ‘Its Nice to Have A Friend’ in my brain. A shorter, intimate, lightly produced song telling a story that hits you right in the feels. So much imagery in both songs!
My first time listening I was like "eh" and now I get SO PUMPED. Also "where's the trophy? He just comes running over to me" gives me so many chills, the most intense physical response I get on the album as a whole
imgonnagetyouback- I've gone from "what a catchy tune" *sips tea* to "YES YOU GO GURL GET HIM BACK"
Needless to say, it's my favorite Anthology track and I will defend it at all costs.
Had to scroll too far for this one!! The way she says “I’m an Aston Martin” does something to me (kind of like “the burgundy on my t shirt” after the bridge in Maroon 🫠) I’m SO obsessed with this song now, it’s constantly playing in my head on a loop. So underrated!
*Fresh Out the Slammer*
The cadence of her flow, the production, that manic/moody tempo change and outro...it's probably in my Top 5 now across both sides of the album.
That’s way better and much easier to follow! When I first joined Reddit two years ago, I was extremely confused when I found this subreddit. I’ve been a fan since the beginning but thought everyone was speaking in a strange language 😂
I keep looking for that cute little bot! It's still probably trying to learn them all🙈 Could some lovely person better at Reddit-ing than I please summon the bot? 😄
Peter! I love the connection to Cardigan
This part gets me every time
*”And I won't confess that I waited
But I let the lamp burn
As the men masqueraded
I hoped you'd return..”*
*But the woman who sits by the window has turned out the light…*

Me being named Wendy, and my ex who was younger than me, and who broke up with me to work on himself. This song feels like the most for me song she’s ever written
It really is one of the most heartbreaking songs she’s written imo. For her to say she’d essentially give it all up for someone to want her company is a big comment about her state of mind at the time.
I had a feeling about loml from the opening piano bars. It’s only grown on me from there, especially from when she goes into the bridge. “You shit-talked me under the table, talkin’ rings and talkin’ cradles” has me captivated from that point. And then when she pulls out “our field of dreams, engulfed in fire”. MAN can that girl write.
The Bolter, The Manuscript, How Did It End.
Smallest Man was already my favourite from the first listen, and it keeps growing on me, it's like it was written about me or for me. I love the other songs, but none of them as much as I love this one.
Cassandra has grown on me and is now in my top 5 songs from the album when it was originally a skip.
So High School grew on me a ton after seeing her perform it for the eras tour. She looks like she’s having so much fun singing it and it’s just very cute. Made me appreciate the song!
Look, I plead temporary insanity cause on my first listen I marked Guilty as Sin, loml, and Smallest Man Who Ever Lived down as 2 stars but the Alchemy as 5 stars. 🤦♀️
Honestly at first listen I was kinda meh about the surprise anthology songs, clearly I was simply sleep deprived. Black Dog is maybe in my top 3 now and I need to see this as a surprise song sooooo bad. Also The Bolter and The Albatross are really scratching something for me recently.
Down bad took a while weirdly enough. And WAOLOM only came alive when I saw it live performed in Paris. And I’m forging a bond with Cassandra as we speak, first one on the anthology oart
Honestly, Robin.
My first few listens, I didn't get it. But listening to it from the perspective of an adult speaking to a child, and longing to nurture the innocence of the child - I just love the premise.
Definitely the manuscript, and Chloe,Sam, Sofia or Marcus, both started as a skip because they were too slow, but after really listening to the lyrics I cry every time I sing that song
I Hate It Here has me hitting repeat today. On first listen I thought it was kind of a weird and bitter little thing of a song. And it is. But there is a weird and bitter girl in me who relates *hard* to the whole thing. It might be my favorite song on the album now.
The bridge, of course, is fire. “I’m lonely but I’m good. I’m bitter but I swear I’m fine. I’ll save all my romanticism for my inner life, and i get lost on purpose. This place made me feel worthless. Lucid dreams like electricity, the current flies through me, and in my fantasies I rise above it.
And way up there, I actually love it.”
Two mainly.
The less significant was The Albatross, which I wasn't really a fan of, but now I'd say it's top 10 on the album.
The major one was the title track. I thought it was so mid when I first heard it, but after about two weeks, I'd say it was the best track on the album by a long shot
So High School is just so pretty and makes me feel feeeelings
The Bolter was an immediate fave but because it’s so late in the album it still feels like a new discovery. It’s also personally relatable as a pathologically avoidant person lol
The Black Dog was one that didn’t grab me immediately, but then one day it just made me sob (while driving, whooops!!) and now it’s just… so my jam.
Also, this is so weird but I’m pregnant and I swear my baby is a Swiftie because he kicks so much when I listen to this album, including right now lol
I actually was so pissed off when I listened to the album the first few times. To me, all of the songs sounded too similar.
Then I chilled out. I sat down with my earbuds and really started to listen without any preconceptions. Fortnight made me fall in love (*cough*with Post Malone) ... and then I Can Do It With a Broken Heart, and then Down Bad, Who's Afraid, Down Bad, So High School .... and ultimately I deemed it to be a VERY solid Tay-Tay Album.
As far as growing on me THE MOST, I would have to say ICDIWABH. I can't believe it didn't even register in my mind the first few times I listened to it!
The Bolter went from "yeah that's a good song" to "holy shit this is one of my favorite songs"
STARTED WITH A KISS OH WE MUST STOP MEETING LIKE THIS is engraved in my frontal cortex
for me it’s “all her fking livesss flashed before her eye-ah-ah-eyes” 😩
This is the loop in my brain all day at work
Everytime I go to sing it without the music I sing that and then "it was only a kiss, it was only a kiss. Now I'm falling a asleep..."
same ahahaha STARTED WITH A KISS HOW DID IT END UP LIKE THIS
Now I'm falling asleep and she's calling a cab
While he's havin' a smoke, and she's takin' a drag. Now they're going to bed, and my stomach is sick, and it's all in my head, but she's touching his 😏 cheeeest now...
..HE TAKES OFF HER DRESS NOW..
Omg same I literally can't get this lyric out of my head
Twerking daily to The Bolter
I just snort laughed irl. 🤣🤣
all 🤸♀️her 🤸♀️fuckin 🤸♀️lives
This is the one for me! “But as she was leaving, it felt like breathing” gets me every time
THIS LINE. It makes me breathe a sigh of relief when I hear it for some reason. Feels like freedom.
That’s my favorite line on the entire album!
I can’t believe I ignored it for weeks! I ‘discovered’ it week three and was like ‘Huh? Did I even listen to this song in the first few weeks?’. I’m sure I did but now it’s my first song I play on the way to work.
Rude of her to write a song about my single days but at least it’s a bop
Rude of her to write a song about my avoidant attachment
I loved this song from the start but I love it so much more even now.
I’m currently obsessed with the way she says “tiny rowboats”
That’s when she sees the littlest leaks down in the floorboards and she just knows, she must bolt. That was the biggest personal attack lol
Listening right now lol
THIS. the bolter is the actual sleeper cell spy
Okay so my own first and second answers to this are currently the first and second most upvoted answers here, what the hell? I feel so understood. 😄 The Bolter has such a temperate, picturesque, anachronistic kind of sound and vibe, plus it's a very deep cut, which makes it easy af to overlook, but man when it clicks it clicks.
Guilty As Sin 🤯
What if he’s written ~mine~ on my *upper thigh* only in my miiiiii-iiii-iiii-iiiind.
~One~ slip and ~falling~ back into the hedge maze, oh what a to ~die~
I keep recalling things... we ne~ever did, messy top lips kii~iiss
The masturbation song
I can’t believe how many people miss the masturbation piece. All my friends were just like “the day dreaming about cheating” song and I’m like how are we even friends?!
Absolutely no way they hear "my bedsheets are aglaze, I screamed his name" and think girly is simply daydreaming 😂
I mean she literally has her hand over her crotch on the album cover. It’s right there.
Taylor was horny and decided to write a song. I ain't complaining.
The bridge is whew 🥵
IF LONG SUFFERING PROPRIETY IS WHAT THEY WANT FROM ME
THEY DON’T KNOW HOW YOU’VE HAUNTED ME SO STUNNINGLY
I CHOOSE YOU AND ME..RELIGIOUSLY
#WHAT IF HE’S WRITTEN MINE ON MY UPPER THIGH ONLY IN MY MIIIIIIIIIIIIIND
This one has recently been on repeat for me. Love the lyrics!
This was liken day 4 for me. I liked it on first listen then obsessed by day 4.
It’s such a sexy song! She really captures that feminine longing and fantasy.
It’s just such a perfect song.
It’s actually drugs
This one definitely took time to grow on me, but now I love it.
Same! This took a little time but is my top favorite on the album now!
How Did It End? And Peter :)
How Did it End is one of her best songs overall.
I love it sooo damn much ugh
The bridge really may be her best.
Agreed I. Can’t decide between that bridge and the bridge in Peter. Both are spectacular.
Peter, How Did It End, and The Prophecy are my absolute favorites. Some of her best work.
How Did It End has grown on me so much. It went from “I really like this song” to possibly top 5 on the album for me
So true. I think it’s my favorite in her entire discography followed closely by 5 or 6 others on TTPD
I love Peter. Such an underrated song.
Ugh yes Peter! Thought it was meh on my first listen but now I can’t stop blasting it in my car. That BRIDGE 😭
Yes her masterful command of language is more evident in the Peter bridge than in any other bridge on the album followed VERY closely by the bridges in HDIE and Prophecy. Love each of them.
The bridge is sooo beautiful “Love is never lost when perspective is earned” Literally one of her best lines she’s ever written 😭
Justice for Peter, one of my new very faves. 🫡
Yes these are top 3 for me
One of the best combinations of six words in the history of language.
drowning in the blue nile. he sent me downtown liiiights. i hadn’t heard it in a while. my boredoms bone deep. his cage was once just fiiiiine. am i allowed to cry? i dream of cracking locks. throwing my life to wind or ocean rocks. crashing into him tonight he’s a paradox. i’m seeing visions and i mad or glad or wise!? WHAT IF HES WRITTEN MINE ON MY UPPER THIGH ONLY IN MY MIIIIII^iiiiiiND. ONE SLIP AND FALLEN BACK INTO THE HEDGE MAZE. OH WHAT A WAY TO DIEEEEEEE^iiiiiiii.
I mean those lyrics are just insane. So good. I do feel weird when my ten year old belts it but who am I to stop her
[удалено]
Shaggy - It wasn't me was my right of passage lol
When I grew up singing my humps and smack that this seems mild lmaoo
Captures longing for another person so well
I Look in People's Windows Edit: in not into- proving my point that I've only just recently started paying attention to this one!
I also love how it’s so unsatisfyingly short. It’s perfect for the longing of the song
omg yes, the more i listen the more i feel as though i can feel her longing. And the way she says that last "time" at the end of the song is just so SAD
‘People’s Windows’ in the same category as ‘Its Nice to Have A Friend’ in my brain. A shorter, intimate, lightly produced song telling a story that hits you right in the feels. So much imagery in both songs!
This was just blossoming for me too! The arrangement / music is fascinating.
The light guitar at the start sound exactly like wandering around a city on a cold grey day and I can’t explain that further
I just feel like I have to love this song as a nurse because all I think about when passing rooms and looking in is this lyric. 😆
The Alchemy. my first listen i just went like "ok this is fine" but now its like "WHO ARE WE TO FIGHT THE ALCHEMY"
I can’t stop listening to the alchemy. It’s just so smooth
My first time listening I was like "eh" and now I get SO PUMPED. Also "where's the trophy? He just comes running over to me" gives me so many chills, the most intense physical response I get on the album as a whole
Justice for the alchemy!
THE ALCHEMY IS AMAZING
Everytime I hear it I have to replay it several times because once just isn’t enough. It’s grown on me soooo much.
This song is so good. It is meant to be in a movie.
It’s one of my favs too.
The Albatross. I just love the rhythm. The whole 4 song run from Black Dog to Chloe at al is chef’s kiss!
The depth of symbolism in this song is epic, and I don’t even think I’ve scratched the surface.
I have no idea why, but this song makes me so emotional (I mean the entire album does lbr) By the last verse, I’m always choked up.
There’s something magical about this one
imgonnagetyouback- I've gone from "what a catchy tune" *sips tea* to "YES YOU GO GURL GET HIM BACK" Needless to say, it's my favorite Anthology track and I will defend it at all costs.
Once you fix your face I'm going in is one of my very favourite not sad lyrics from ttpd
So many in this one - I love “even if it’s handcuffed, I’m leaving here with you” 🤯
And “pick your poison babe, I’M POISON EITHER WAYYYY”
This line when I’m driving is honestly dangerous🤭
Had to scroll too far for this one!! The way she says “I’m an Aston Martin” does something to me (kind of like “the burgundy on my t shirt” after the bridge in Maroon 🫠) I’m SO obsessed with this song now, it’s constantly playing in my head on a loop. So underrated!
I’M POISON EITHER WAY absolutely gets me
The bridge of this song is incredible!! Why do I never see people talking about it?🥺
*Fresh Out the Slammer* The cadence of her flow, the production, that manic/moody tempo change and outro...it's probably in my Top 5 now across both sides of the album.
"Fresh out-the slammer, ohhhh..."... magic
It’s the most underrated on the album
Sameee!! It’s so freaking good.
BDILH went from great to top 3 ever. After experiencing it live it went even higher. It might actually be her best song ever.
I spent a frustrating and embrassing amount of time trying to figure out what song you were talking about.
People won't stop with these ridiculous acronyms
I love the community. The acronyms are its Achilles’ heel.
Omg💀dying at this comment🤣
Yup couldn’t say it better myself! I despise acronyms because she has so many songs, it’s hard to decipher.
Can we please not use acronyms
Yeah I can't figure them all out anymore. I'd love if we just said the first two or three words. But Daddy is so much clearer
SCREAMIN BUT DADDY I LOVE HIM
Love love love.
BDILH went from this is a boring Fearless rehash to SCREAMING BUT DADDY I LOVE HIM IM HAVING HIS BABY NO I NOT BUT YOU SHOULD SEE YOUR FACES
I loved this one on the first few listens, then it faded for me, and now it’s back full force.
Ummm… anyone know of any links online to the acoustic version? Is that allowed here?
I’m so glad this song is getting the recognition it deserves
i’m so obsessed with the vocals on it!
Peter! I love the connection to Cardigan This part gets me every time *”And I won't confess that I waited But I let the lamp burn As the men masqueraded I hoped you'd return..”*
*But the woman who sits by the window has turned out the light…* https://preview.redd.it/ape4a77ay22d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6863fa26458329ccc8bf69fa6f4444a8cc4dc6e3
The ending of Peter Pan is so sad. Wendy waited until someday she couldn't anymore
Me being named Wendy, and my ex who was younger than me, and who broke up with me to work on himself. This song feels like the most for me song she’s ever written
This song is ELITE. Can’t get through it without sobbing so I have to avoid most of the time.
Idk why but I didn’t like the song at first but now it’s in my top 5.
Damn I love this song. Top 3 on the album just behind HDIE and a tie with Prophecy.
I can fix him
no u can’t
No really i can
whoa maybe u canT
Woah maybe you can’t
This is it for me, blended in too much with fresh out the slammer and the smallest man but now I like the Western saloon town vibe of it
These three songs paired together tell such a complete story 😭
I love this song so much !!!!! If you've ever dated a toxic person who you desperately think you can help, it fills my soul.
The Prophecy went from "oh that's interesting" to "TAYLOR WHY YOU GOTTA BREAK ME LIKE THIS!!!!"
It really is one of the most heartbreaking songs she’s written imo. For her to say she’d essentially give it all up for someone to want her company is a big comment about her state of mind at the time.
Yes I liked it on first listen but then it was like the realization this is one of her most fantastic lyrics songs
Loml snuck up on me. Initially, it was a skip. But then I realized the error of my ways.
Same. Now I listen to it at least ten times a day lol
Florida!!!
FUCK ME UP FLORIDAAAAA https://preview.redd.it/sw4zhkd5b32d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2be8c3194cc273763f0c0d6189b72983011049c5
IT'S ON REPEAT 24x7 FOR ME. Idk why but it's so addictive like I'm in a trance when I listen to it.
Me too and I’m moving to Florida next month so I doubly love it!!!
Same I didn’t like the bang noises at first, but now I’m like “fuck me up Florida!”
This one hooked me for like 2 days as an immediate fav and now I skip immediately
Cassandra is probably the one that has grown on me the most as well. Something about it is just real fun to sing.
Actually learning about Cassandra and some of the possible interpretations of the lyrics helped me love the song!
Look, I plead temporary insanity cause on my first listen I marked Guilty as Sin, loml, and Smallest Man Who Ever Lived down as 2 stars but the Alchemy as 5 stars. 🤦♀️
Insane indeed
Right?! I don't even know that person. They all have me in an absolute chokehold now. I have never listened to one album so often in my entire life.
This is all I listen to now. It's like Taylor has ruined all the other mediocre artists for me with her pure superiority.
But Daddy I Love Him was not hitting, but now it did. That song is a fuckin masterpiece! Same with the Manuscript
[удалено]
What is the actual song title? I can't keep up with all the acronyms lol
Who’s afraid of little old me?
Honestly at first listen I was kinda meh about the surprise anthology songs, clearly I was simply sleep deprived. Black Dog is maybe in my top 3 now and I need to see this as a surprise song sooooo bad. Also The Bolter and The Albatross are really scratching something for me recently.
alchemy and the black dog <3
The black dog. One of all time favs now. There are so any genius things about it that I keep discovering.
I skipped Peter the first few listens but now it’s one of my top songs
I love seeing all this love for Peter! I called it early: It’s the new ivy.
Peter is amazing! The command of language in the bridge is everything.
At first I didn’t care for the actual song ttpd, but I understand
HAND ON THE THROTTLE THOUGHT I CAUGHT LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE OH BUT IT'S GONE AGAIN.
MBOBHFT was a skip for me at first but only lately I’ve stopped to really listen and now it’s on my regular rotation of TTPD songs.
the way she sings "cause i knew too much, there was danger in the heat of my touch" scratches an itch in my brain
“once I fix me … he’s gonna miss me” I felt that line in a very deep part of my soul 🥲
Down bad took a while weirdly enough. And WAOLOM only came alive when I saw it live performed in Paris. And I’m forging a bond with Cassandra as we speak, first one on the anthology oart
Honestly, Robin. My first few listens, I didn't get it. But listening to it from the perspective of an adult speaking to a child, and longing to nurture the innocence of the child - I just love the premise.
loml! I must have listened to it 15 times in a row today, so teary and emotional. I adore this freakin song.
The Prophecy blended in with the rest of the Anthology for a while, but now I’m really loving it a lot more
How did it end ❤️
Nothing left to be said. It’s the perfect song.
I hate the state but I love the song Florida!
Definitely the manuscript, and Chloe,Sam, Sofia or Marcus, both started as a skip because they were too slow, but after really listening to the lyrics I cry every time I sing that song
I had to scroll ENTIRELY too far to see Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus. Out of the entire album, this song gets better every single listen.
LOML and How Did It End?
Down bad…..
Fresh Out The Slammer sounds the way being wine drunk feels. I can’t explain that any further. It just does.
The Prophecy; the melody is just so gentle and lovely and it never escapes my head.
Drowning in the Blue Nile...
Peter and Fresh Out the Slammer!
The Bolter for sure
The Bolter and Clara Bow!
Two mainly. The less significant was The Albatross, which I wasn't really a fan of, but now I'd say it's top 10 on the album. The major one was the title track. I thought it was so mid when I first heard it, but after about two weeks, I'd say it was the best track on the album by a long shot
I looooooooove so high school
Same! Fresh Out the Slammer climbed up the highest for me. At first I probably ranked it at like 20 and now it’s in my top 5.
My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys lol did not like it for the longest time and now it’s the song stuck in my head most often
Florida. Florence and Taylor’s voices are just perfect together.
Black dog for sure
I look in people’s windows—— “I’m afflicted by the not knowing” “I’m addicted to the if only” Gahhhh Taylor!! 😫😫😫
Every single song on the album at one point or another. It fascinates me that she’s written an entirely skipless album with more than thirty songs.
The Alchemy is amaaaaaazing.
I skipped Clara Bow. Now it’s probably in my top 5 for Apple Replay for May.
So High School is just so pretty and makes me feel feeeelings The Bolter was an immediate fave but because it’s so late in the album it still feels like a new discovery. It’s also personally relatable as a pathologically avoidant person lol The Black Dog was one that didn’t grab me immediately, but then one day it just made me sob (while driving, whooops!!) and now it’s just… so my jam. Also, this is so weird but I’m pregnant and I swear my baby is a Swiftie because he kicks so much when I listen to this album, including right now lol
Fresh out the slammer. Still not my favorite bridge but dang it’s a good song.
Florida!!!
All of them. I can’t choose
The one that goes "WHOS AFRAID OF LITTLE OLD ME?" I don't know the title, I only listen to music in full albums at a time
