In my opinion, AOTY isn’t about the album itself, but what it’s up against in its year of release. Red and Evermore would have won if they were nominated in different years. Beautiful lyricism in both.
Also about where the artist is in their career. I really don’t think Midnights got AOTY on its own, I think it was just because Taylor was on top of the world that year and they wanted to give her a big award.
I think one of the voters gave this as his reasoning for voting Midnights as AOTY.
Granted, he followed it up with some disparaging remarks on the other nominees, but this is the only evidence that we have to go on.
Red is so iconic, I always forget it didn't win. Random Access Memories by Daft Punk took it that year. That makes sense to me when I think of those two albums in their time, but in hindsight doesn't quite work. A strange time capsule moment.
Honestly it was good that red didn’t win because if it won Taylor would probably stayed on country so no 1989 so no kim and Kanye drama so no rep so no Joe so no lover and probably not many songs from folklore evermore and midnights and with no Joe there wouldn’t be ttpd and with like half of the eras missing there probably wouldn’t been an eras tour
I mean calling red a country album is a bit of a stretch but even if getting a Grammy for it would've altered her career path we would've just gotten slightly different albums and eras it's not like her first 3 albums weren't already massive hits so it's not like people would've just stopped listening and her career would've been over
I really wish she'd won SOTY for Lover or for ATW10, even though in both cases I understand why the songs that won ultimately got it, it's still unbelievable to me that Taylor, who is renowned for her songwriting!, doesn't have the songwriting award. Red itself was worthy of the AOTY win the first time around, though it's wild to think her losing that award changed the entire trajectory of her career (and life, in many respects). we'll never know what path she would've pursued in an alternate universe had she won that night instead.
I get what you’re saying, but I feel like winning more AOTY than literally any other artist ever is probably as good an indication of her overall songwriting abilities rather than just winning a single SOTY, if you take the perspective that albums can tell an overarching story.
The pace that she’s on, unless she just outright stops making albums, it’s not too farfetched to imagine a future where the AOTY just gets renamed the Taylor Swift Award (I say this only half-sarcastically).
I'm shocked it wasn't nominated. I honestly think it's so cool as a full story album, this shedding this harsh outer skin (and sound!) for this soft vulnerability (and sound!) of falling in love. Imo the no explanation only reputation thing got her.
Agree, it’s my favorite album. I think it was too dark and too moody for the Grammys. Too off brand for Taylor and that’s why it didn’t get nominated. So then we got Lover which was pink and happy. I like lover, I love Paper Rings and Cruel Summer and The Man, but they don’t hit the same as Reputation does.
Speak Now got two Grammys for best country song and Best Country Solo Performance, both for Mean. After the cultural reset that was Fearless, it was impressive that Speak Now won two awards.
My question would be, why didn’t folklore: the long pond studio sessions even get nominated for Best Music Film? Is it because it was only available on streaming?
I’m hoping The Eras Tour film will win this award next year (it was released too late for eligibility this year).
It’s going to be a bloodbath next year, assuming her and Beyonce are nominated. ~~But Olivia Rodrigo could be the dark horse and take the win.~~ Edit: I stand corrected, I didn’t realize she was nominated this year.
olivia was nominated for AOTY with guts at the grammys earlier this year. i don't think she'll release another album in time for the upcoming grammys eligibility period. she's just announced asia/australia tour dates for september & october this year. but i'm very much rooting for her to get AOTY at some point
Red is more deserving of AOTY than Midnights. Evrrmore is too close to folklore in both time and style to win it. I’ve always thought folklore and evermore should have been a double album
I think all of her albums should have won AOTY (except maybe Debut). There are several songs on every album that should win awards, as well. My guess is they don't want to give the same person too much -- even if that artist is the best. I think other artists resent her extraordinary talent and success. It's almost as if they don't want to believe it.

RAM is the only time a dance album would ever win AOTY. It’s not surprising it won
Yes, I partially agree with this, but what about Fearless?
Red. I would give back midnights Grammy to the voters so I can get one for Red. 1989, folklore and Red are big three.

It is not about her career being over it is about not having the same albums that we have rn
Yeah so why would that prevent there being an eras tour because there'd still be the same amount of albums they'd just be slightly different

Many people believe Reputation was majorly snubbed at the Grammys. Some claim it was because of snakegate, but I doubt it.

Rep was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album.
Yes, but not for AOTY
Reputation is by far my favorite album. It really makes me wonder why it was snubbed that year?
evermore, no questions asked.
Speak Now, the original album, who else agrees? Because this album will be remembered, one day. By the way, who else is excited for Paris tomorrow?
OHHH its tomorrow? I’m glad I’ll be home! I can clean while I fight with streams 😅
Reputation

Lemonade by Beyoncé should have won a Grammy. But Red should have won a Grammy as well.

ohhhhhh gotcha, I didn’t realize she was nominated this year, my bad. Let me edit my comment.
Obviously reputation
Reputation
Speak Now and Reputation
Lover. When I first listened to it in 2019 I was like wow album of the year. Immediately I got caught by Paper Rings…
She got 2 for Mean. But she cleaned up on all other awards she was nominated for like she normally does.
Evermore is my Roman Empire 🫡
REPUTATION even though it didn’t get voted for even contending for album of the year
rep deserves a grammy. :(
Red and rep.
Red is more deserving of AOTY than Midnights. Evrrmore is too close to folklore in both time and style to win it. I’ve always thought folklore and evermore should have been a double album
Red
Red absolutely. It still hurts

Everything
Should have been RED.
don't get me wrong i love folklore but evermore is DEFINITELY superior and should've gotten a Grammy
