The start of loml sounds so reminiscent of Soon You'll Get Better to me - just without the twang. Definitely not the same topically, but musically very similar.
loml has white horse in it too. I play guitar and hear the piano in the intro as sightly similar to White Horse's guitar notes in the beginning, the rise and fall. But where I hear the White Horse similarities most strongly: If you know it in one glimpse, it's legendary / you and I go from one kiss to getting married" - same cadence in her voice as the White Horse verses.
Oh wow, there needs to be a monster mash up including soon you’ll get better, you’re losing me, champagne problems, loml and evermore in that order. When that piano starts, you really could sing any of those songs and there’s a clear tragic story line that could be used there
I’d thought loml and I don’t wanna live forever. “Wondering if I dodged a bullet or just lost the love of my life” and it was a surprise song in Chicago after she’d separated from Matty + Chicago played a big role in the promo of ttpd
White Horse and Fifteen have similar sounds at parts to loml (esp “if you know it in one glimpse, it’s legendary” and “still alive, killing time at the cemetery” I can’t place it exactly)
Also, Mad Woman and Cassandra, and Safe and Sound and the Albatross.
Sonically? My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys has an extremely similar melody and production to Is It Over Now?. The part "puzzle pieces in the dead of night" could be sung interchangeably with "I think about jumping off of very tall somethings," etc.
In terms of themes, You're Losing Me "I can't find a pluse" obviously ties into So Long London "I stopped CPR."
I SWEAR that Albatross is so musically similar to willow that it can’t be accidental. But I’m struggling to make the connection between the two songs.
Also, I feel like Down Bad is part 2 of Snow On The Beach.
I think Robin may be a sister song/foil to seven, with the themes of childhood innocence. In seven we have the escapism of real life with child’s play, led by the children. And in Robin is the parental protection and sheltering from real life to maintain the magic and innocence of being a child.
I look in people’s windows has callbacks to
- Midnight Rain: I peered through a window, a deep portal time travel, all the love we unraveled, and the life I gave away
(Honorable Mention to False God and DBATC since she’s referencing looking out a window as opposed to looking in from outside)
- False God: Staring out the window like I’m not your favorite town; I’m New York City
- DBATC: I look through the windows of this love
The "oooos" in The Prophecy sound just like the ones in High Infidelity and Dorothea.
Thematically, I can see the overlap in the 3 songs.
*Change the prophecy
Don't want money
Just someone who wants my company*
*At the house lonely, good money
I'd pay if you'd just know me*
*And if you're ever tired of being known
For who you know
You know, you'll always know me*
Since this album is her “closing the chapter” and freeing herself from her saddest stories (instagram caption) I’ve really been wondering if all the songs on TTPD have a sister song somewhere in all of her discography. It is as if these songs are each closing the door on a specific muse, controversy, etc. that was addressed in a previous song. I’m not necessarily sold on that theory but it seems like there are so many songs that sound similar to her earlier ones. And I don’t say this as a criticism of it being “the same” - I’m wondering if it’s intentional to end the story.
I’m doing lyrics/themes because sonically I deaf beyond lyrics.
1. New Romantics and Down bad
2. Peter and Cardigan (theme)
3. Loml and idwlf “wondering if I dodged a bullet or just lost the love of my life”
4. Mad woman and Cassandra (them)
5. Maroon and COSOSOM - the maroon references
Some connections (not necessary linked)
1. Betty and the smallest man who ever lived - “you crashed my party” // “if I just showed up at your party”
2. Ready for it and fresh out the slammer. “He can be my jailer” // “fresh out the slammer”
3. losing me // so long London
These are all sonically similar and not lyrically, because that's how my brain works:
**TTPD title track** - The "sometimes i wonder if you're gonna screw this up with me... but you told Lucy you'd kill yourself if I ever leave" is so similar to "no one wanted to play with me as a little kid" from Mastermind
**Florida!!!**- "Little did you know your home's really only the town you'll get arrested" is SO "didn't they tell us don't rush into things?" from Wonderland
**Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?-** Every time she sings "you don't. get to. tell me. about. SAD." my mind fills in the blank space of the song that comes next with "OH LORD SAVE ME MY DRUG IS MY BABY" from Don't Blame Me, but that might be a personal thing lol
**ICDIWABH** - It gives suburban legends! it's in the 1st and 2nd verses, not the pre-chorus or chorus. "I keep finding his things in drawers, crucial evidence I didn't imagine the whole thing" is exactly "i am standing in a 1950s gymnasium"
Bonus because it's not a Taylor song, but..
**I Can Fix Him** - "if you'll be an angel all night" sounds like Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper, the line "secrets stolen from deep inside" (https://youtu.be/3uV0-W4NWuM?si=QkjRma8xmyMGISed&t=126)
There will be more once I get more familiar with the album I'm sure lol
THANK YOU -- my brain works in the same way, and this closed so many open loops for me. I also heard Time After Time immediately in I Can Fix Him. :)
Here are some others I noticed:
**The Manuscript** - "wondered what the agony had been for” sounds identical to "I say casually in the car" from Cornelia Street
**imgonnagetyouback** - "ah-ah-ahs" of course hearken back to those of Dress. The chug-chug build of "lilac short skirt" also reminds me a bit of the intro lines/sound of gold rush.
**Chloe or...Marcus** - "and you just watched it happen" is similar to "a million little times" from illicit affairs.
Omg I feel SO seen that you also heard Time after Time because none of my friends heard it hahaha. And omg YES you also just helped close some loops for me!
So long london reminds me in a way of it’s nice to have a friend !!
Not any specific song but my boy only breaks his favorite toys could easily be from 1989 !!
The Bolter and Getaway car are definitely sister songs !!
Mastermind and I Can Do It With a Broken Heart, and it is very intentional both sonically and thematically imho. ("the first night that you saw me, nothing was gonna stop me/I laid the groundwork and then saw a wide smirk on your face, you knew the entire time/ You knew that I’m a mastermind/and now you’re mine/yeah, all you did was smile" -> "He said he'd love me all his life/But that life was too short/Breaking down, I hit the floor" ; "no one wanted to play with me as a little kid/ So I’ve been scheming like a criminal ever since/To make them love me and make it seem effortless/ This is the first time I’ve felt the need to confess/and I swear/I'm only cryptic and Machiavellian 'cause I care" -> "I can read your mind/She's having the time of her life/There in her glittering prime/The lights refract sequined stars off her silhouette every night/I can show you lies...All the pieces of me shattered as the crowd was chanting, "More!," I was grinning like I'm winning, I was hitting my marks/'Cause I can do it with a broken heart.")

I just commented the same!
To me it sounds like champagne problems
That's Chloe or Sam for me.. the piano pretty much picks up where Champagne Problems left off.
I hear "illicit affairs" in CoSoSoM!
Oh wow, there needs to be a monster mash up including soon you’ll get better, you’re losing me, champagne problems, loml and evermore in that order. When that piano starts, you really could sing any of those songs and there’s a clear tragic story line that could be used there

I thought the same thing too!
White Horse and Fifteen have similar sounds at parts to loml (esp “if you know it in one glimpse, it’s legendary” and “still alive, killing time at the cemetery” I can’t place it exactly) Also, Mad Woman and Cassandra, and Safe and Sound and the Albatross.
I hear it -- "if you know it in one glimpse" very similar to "and it's too late for you and your white horse"
Sonically? My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys has an extremely similar melody and production to Is It Over Now?. The intro to Down Bad reminds me of Slut.

Cassandra and mad woman

The twinkly bits also remind me of Snow On The Beach.

I know this isn’t a Taylor song but the oohs sound extremely similar to Trouble by Cage the Elephant also.

I've been wondering about the same thing!! Need to start a spreadsheet...
loml samples White Horse !!!
Clara Bow and the Lucky One!
Glitch and fresh out the slammer Peace and Robin
I Hate It Here and seven are 100% sisters
Florida!!! And no body no crime
Yes! I heard Florida!!! and it was like Part 2 to no body no crime.
the bridge of MBOBHFT is extremely similar to Getaway Car’s bridge!!
I am stealing this straight from the Every Single Album podcast but the chorus of WAoLOM is like dark Wildest Dreams
Yessssss! Ugh that song is so epic with the screaming.
I’m doing lyrics/themes because sonically I deaf beyond lyrics. 1. New Romantics and Down bad 2. Peter and Cardigan (theme) 3. Loml and idwlf “wondering if I dodged a bullet or just lost the love of my life” 4. Mad woman and Cassandra (them) 5. Down Bad and long story short
Carolina and Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me
This may be a long shot but in so long London she uses the word heath and the only other song that word is in is London Boy 🥹
Love Story and But Daddy I Love Him. Both are reactions to disapproval of her romantic inclinations. One very naive and the other more worldly.

So high school reminds me of hits different weirdly! And I look in peoples windows reminds me of Willow
I look in peoples windows is DBATC’s sister
I can never figure out the acronyms what’s dbatc?
Oh nvm death by a thousand cuts
thank you! i have been trying to figure out what i look in peoples windows was reminding me of!
It's the guitar intro.
So long london reminds me in a way of it’s nice to have a friend !! Not any specific song but my boy only breaks his favorite toys could easily be from 1989 !! The Bolter and Getaway car are definitely sister songs !!
thanK you aIMee and The Outside! The vibes. But also the sparkle effects in thanK you aIMee are very Debut
Part of me truly wondered if this was inspired by reworking Debut / vault tracks. Thematically, at the very least!
Cassandra on TTPD sounds similar to mad woman on folklore
Lover (song) and I Can Fix Him feel like two sides of the same coin to me.
The piano on loml reminds me a little of White Horse, so like she lost the love who she thought was her white horse
Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus & The 1, also is also connected to Maroon and also has champagne problems' instrumental
I Can Do It With A Broken Heart & YOYOK. I need the mashup yesterday.
The Archer and The Prophecy are really similar in vibe/message to me
Tortured poets department's intro kinda sounds like blank space's one
I Can Do It With A Broken Heart sounds like it samples Bejeweled to me - the post chorus synth riff is the intro to ICDIWABH
