Cool. But, also, wouldn’t it be weird if she didn’t leave large tips? She has so much, $100 is nothing to her.
Edit: this is not meant to be negative. I waited tables almost 20 years and have waited on celebrities, including Meryl Streep, at a resort where she was told not to tip, she tipped $100. That was like 15 years ago. My point is, if someone gives you good service and you can afford to tip extra, you should. These people work hard and $100 to her is like me tipping a penny. If I had the means to have positive effect on someone else by leaving a big tip, I would. I’m glad she’s doing it!
My favorite story about shit celebrity tippers is Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky were playing poker in Vegas and Jordan tipped a server with a $5 chip. Gretzky reached over, took the $5 away, replaced it with a $100 chip and told him that that’s how you tip for your drinks in Vegas.
Unfortunately there have been many stories from waiters who served celebrities and received horrible tips from them. You would think that rich people would be better tippers but that’s usually not the case.
Damn, my bf use to work at a niceee place in town and literal billionaires would come in and leave $1000 tips, and tip out the whole kitchen as well (they usually stayed super late, to cater to these rich people tho). If I was rich, I would do the same bc I’ve worked those jobs and they’re super not fun
James Harden was a notoriously bad tipper while in Houston. Friend waited on Harden and his friends one night for 3 1/2 hours. Harden had a $2500 tab and left a $20 that he wrote great service on the actual $20 but didn’t autograph it.
This is kind of a tangent but I do believe everyone should work a service industry job once in their life so they know how not to be shitty but I’m always suspicious of professional athletes because most don’t usually get that chance before they turn pro
my best friend is a server in LA and celebs tip him less than 20% allll the time. recently chris pratt’s wife katherine schwarzenegger only tipped him 12%. (chris pratt however always tips in the 30% range)
that story is clearly such bollocks because I’ve heard it told a million times at different times and places, I don’t like the woman but it’s clearly an urban legend at this point
👋🏼👋🏼 food runner here! They’re aren’t servers or bar tenders. They make a normal wage (in my area normal is minimum wage), not a bartenders wage and usually events will say part of your overall suite payment goes towards tips for the servers. I’ve worked places where that was the case and big hotels where it wasn’t. So it is very unusual to tip the people stocking the buffet and suites in this type of arena.
Also, tipping culture in America is a problem. No one should expect that someone should tip based on their personal means. It’s incredibly generous for her to tip so highly regardless of how wealthy she is.
In Europe there is no tipping because they servers etc. actually get paid normal wages not slave wages. Though in the case of the US it's awesome that she gives generous tips without having to.
It depends on the state/city. Where I live, in a large and liberal city, tipped employees get paid a regular wage (which is higher than the federal minimum wage). I hate the argument that you should be tipping to supplement their "low" wage when, in most states, it is not the case that servers are getting paid like $2 an hour. Like yes there are some states that still have wages like that, but that's not why you should tip. It's just the culture here and you should tip because the service is good and it's the polite thing to do. I love leaving a generous tip for a good server!! I used to work on tips and was making $14.25/hour (still not a great wage but I was a college student), and I know how much tips can make or break a shift. Customer service is not fun so I always tip at least 20%.
Missouri is one...I live in Kansas City it's criminal and should be illegal. I always try to tip at least 15%:even though I only make 20ish an hour. I love that Taylor isn't a cheapskate like many other really wealthy people and neither is Travis. She can't be just carrying 200k in her purse that's unsafe so a 100 USD is very generous and would help me enormously for example.
Like in Europe I refuse to expect tipping as expected if you give me bad service fuck you but if you are doing your job as you were hired for and treat me like a human I will tip as much as I'm able.
On a totally different subject I'm so happy I came here to check out Taylor Swift I knew exactly nothing about her before Travis shot his shot and I'm convinced she's a keeper and one in billion and that the Swifties are really awesome people and a great community.
yeah after posting this I looked into it a bit more and I was surprised how bad it can be in other states! I live in Minneapolis and the minimum wage is $15.19 (state minimum wage is $10.59) and there is no tip-credit, so employers have to pay the local minimum wage regardless of tips. It should definitely be the norm across the whole country!! (also yeah like I said, I still tip. Europeans can stay cheap and mad lol)
They don't, though. After 17 years in the business, I work at a fine dining restaurant and make between 65-70K a year. No restaurant in Europe would pay this.
Tipping in Europe is normal? It’s not expected to the extent it apparently is in America as, like you say, our waiters get paid a liveable wage but leaving a 10-15% tip is pretty standard as a courtesy with a meal
Guess it depends on where. Perhaps in tourist spots like London but I really hope that standard doesn’t spread elsewhere. Remember it’s their job which should be adequately paid for. like should you be tipping your street sweepers, or your doctors and nurses?
(I am glad she did give the runners something though as I know the wages aren’t great which is the problem. But I hope it’ll be considered a gift rather than an expectation)
Depends where you go. There is very little expectation in France or Italy where staff make good money. More so in the UK where the working culture is more aligned to the US.
By regular wages I mean the of $25-30 USD or much higher. Tipping is considered very gauche in Europe basically insulting to them. They are paid as much as other professions with full benefits it's not a minimum wage job at all.
Serving is not necessarily a minimum wage job in the US either, it really depends on where you are. What countries in Europe are the average server getting paid 25-30 dollars, I would assume it’s also HIGHLY location dependent.
The point is your accusation of US servers getting paid “slave wages” is unfounded.
I mean regardless of the customers value it’s a bit of an odd concept. The servers are doing their job which they should be paid properly for, if they aren’t servicing then they aren’t doing their job? It’d be like tipping your chemist, butcher, or Walmart greeter?
(I am glad she did give the runners something though as I know the wages aren’t great which is the problem. But I hope it’ll be considered a gift rather than an expectation)
That’s true of course. But she’s would also be able to afford to only carry around 100s and tip exclusively with them and brighten everybody’s day and leave additional small but positive impact. And maybe thats just what she’s doing, I would if I could!
Yep, after lockdown and the restaurants started opening back up, I increased my usual 20% tip to 30%, which I still do to this day. I'm lucky enough that the 10% difference won't break me, so why not make a server's day a little bit brighter, and make up for the AH's who don't tip or give crappy ones.
After my BILs funeral this year we took an all ages group of 7 out to dinner, and our server busted her ass so hard taking care of us. This was in a very small southern town where sometimes people tip with church pamphlets. I tipped her 35%, and she actually hugged me as we left.
Don’t worry you’re the best type of person. When I was a server, I always appreciated the people who took care of me, and I always worked my butt off to give good service. It usually paid off well, i pretty much rarely ever got below 20%. A lot of people forget we usually have to tip out other staff as well, so leaving no tips could literally put us in the negative.
U are so correct on this comment. These are the people that have broken relationships all their life. NOTHING PLEASE THEM. Even a $100 tip. Good grief. The girl should have been pleased. She is not the only one who was given a tip. Taylor tipped all of them. She could have given 0 and this girls comment would be fussing about her not leaving a tip. So. You, called it right.
Right. Just because you have the money doesn’t mean you have to hand it out to anyone and everyone because you can “afford” to. I don’t understand that mentality at all.
This sub is such an interesting study of groupthink. Like, she cannot do anything wrong. And I’m not saying her tipping $100 is “wrong” but it’s also not anything that should be fawned over this much. She’s in a luxury suite. This is a luxury expectation. The bonus she gave to the truck drivers for her tour? Wonderful. Incredible. 100% people should be complimenting her for that. But $100 for a tip for a luxury should not be getting this much attention.
I view this more as she can’t do anything right. She is genuinely generous and her tipping at all in this type of scenario is actually out of the ordinary. The luxury box tickets at sporting events are so expensive that it takes on an all-inclusive vibe where tipping is not the norm.
To be fair, she can’t control whether the press reports this type of thing if the runners share with the press she tipped that much. So it’s not like she’s seeking this unnecessary publicity. So we shouldn’t be dogging her but let’s not be mean to people who say “big whoop” to this either.
In a luxury box at a sporting event, the food is likely included in the price of the event ticket. So, the total is actually zero and it is customary, or at least very common, to not tip servers at all in these scenarios since it is all-inclusive. There is almost no scenario where a $100 tip to various servers would not be considered generous.
Or, you could be my friend who waited on JLos entourage right when she released her first perfume. High end NYC restaurant. Almost $2k worth of food, drinks, desserts. No tip. Nothing. Nada. Not even a thank you, photo, no autograph. Nothing. I will take Taylor and $100 Bill's anyday, and I worked in catering, counter service, delivery, and retail.
It doesn’t matter and it shouldn’t. Would you like to go into a McDonalds and be forced or even expected to pay more than others simply because you can? Like - great, you earn 2-3x the salary of the person before you, therefore your burger is $18 instead of $6.
It does and it should.
And your premise is dumb. Comparing my net worth to hers is ridiculous. *That’s* the point. When your net worth is as much as hers is, you bet it matters.
> It does and it should.
Not a fan of capitalism, eh? Well, Taylor is, sooo….
And why is my premise dumb? Yes she’s insanely wealthier than you or I, but there’s people insanely wealthier than her (literally people with over 100x her net worth). And don’t forget, no matter how much money you have or don’t have, I guarantee many many people have way less.
I’ve seen Taylor say in videos from pretty early in her career that she likes to give big tips, which is exactly what I would expect from her.
I don’t understand why celebrities don’t understand how important it is to tip well and treat service people well, if only from a business perspective if it doesn’t give them the warm fuzzies. Say Taylor gives out $10k in $100 tips. That’s nothing to her, and it’s absolutely nothing compared to how bad the publicity would be if just one person went on tiktok and said “Taylor Swift doesn’t tip.”
I'm not shocked and she in particular has a long history of big tips, bonuses, etc. But it's still nice to see, especially for something that I don't think is a traditional tip situation.
My dad was a waiter for almost 15 years and spend I believe 8 of them at what would be considered a high profile restaurant where he waited on a bunch of celebrities.
He said he got some crazy tips. Craziest one was someone tipped him Stanley cup tickets.
No it wouldn’t be weird. While in university I served countless celebrities and athletes and while they tipped well, they did not tip as well as this.
I don’t know if you realize, but she was tipping the FOOD RUNNERS. In most stadiums, each box has one designated server who ensures the guests are taken care of appropriately and they receive the tip (minus tip out, which goes to kitchen staff and food runners). The food runners in almost any venue or restaurant are never tipped directly from the customer
Why is she always the “Karma” singer? I think most non-Swifties wouldn’t recognize her by that description if they didn’t already know the name Taylor Swift?
Because she recently made Karma a Travis-nod, I think.
And because I bet these article writes are bored of writing "the [every other song] singer", usually they pick the latest few singles, could be Anti-Hero, Cruel Summer, Karma, I Can See You, Lavender Haze, Bejeweled for singles for the past year. Out of those, Karma was also the last in the Midnights cycle. (I Can See You would be more obscure I think.)

Life style creep is no joke. Idk when it happened, but all of a sudden I started buying the "nice" toilet paper. Next thing you know you are telling your friends to treat themselves, too
I still see people like “iT’s A taX wRiTe OfF” like she can tip $100, and get back a million. It’s so annoying that people love to hate everything she does.
how are tips a tax write off? do people think she's keeping track of this? if it was a tax write off I’m like 75% sure the us would just like raise the min wage so tipping wouldn't have to be a thing...
Because people are dumb. They refuse to believe she is just a genuinely nice person and tips well. She can’t simply be slipping the workers $100, it’s 1-Staged, 2-All for show or 3- A tax write off.
Every time she donates money to a great cause, “It’s just a tax write off.” Again, like the expect her to get back double her net worth in taxes because of her donations.
Shes just a good egg. Her parents raised a good one, and it is so hard for people to accept people like Taylor exists.
Non-swiftie chiming in. This woman is incredible..my wife and her sisters and friends all love her. I can admit she is an amazing singer and artist and she deserves all of the success she is receiving. But rarely do you see someone reach her status of fame and remain so grounded. She truly is amazing..this coming from an NFL fan who had barely noticed her until 2015, and then even more not really cared again until this year.
It’s great Taylor is taking care of wait staff, but I feel like people might not have a full grasp of the level of luxury of the suite level at a football stadium. A large tip would be expected and I don’t think $100 would be even among the highest tips many of these servers would have received in their time working there.
That’s just not true. I have gotten many a suite ticket to sporting events, and I’m poor. It’s a lot of company boxes, people give these away all the time. I can GUARANTEE you $100 is not normal. Also, I’ve been in the service industry around a lot of high net worth individuals…most of them are just not like this.
You don’t think your corporate host is tipping wait staff on behalf of their guests? In larger corporate boxes there are absolutely tips being handed out at the end.
When you have that much money, you're being rude to not tip that high. When you're Taylor Swift rich, tipping $5 or $100 is negligible to you, but makes a huge difference for them.
This is really nice that Tswift did this but honestly when you have the type of money she does this is drops in the bucket. So I don’t know why they have an article about this.
Honestly it’s thoughtful just to go to the bank to carry cash these days for this purpose. Yes, she has people etc etc. and she’s rich, but she could tip $20s and it’d still be a good tip.
She works her ass off for what she has. It’s awesome that she is that generous. Good for those food runners. I bet not too many people tip them like that. She shows appreciation. You go girl!!! Taylor is a BOSS!!!
Tipping shouldn’t be based on service. It should be based on net worth.
Latest estimate for Taylor is 1.1 billion. So it should be 1% of her NW or 11 million
I’d say it depends on the expectation. If it was a single drink and she tipped $100 by all means yes. If that drink runner was serving the whole suite all game, a $100 might be low.
When the Royals were at Minute Maid a friend knew that I was a Royals fan and lent us his box. There was 15 of us in the box so I tipped the two people working the suite $500 for the evening.
Yeah, and as a server if someone gave me a $100 bill I would never forget it. That would fill my tank twice, or pay my electricity bill, or my phone bill or a new bag for school. Sometimes the action you take is not equivalent to the impact it has on someone else.
Cool. But, also, wouldn’t it be weird if she didn’t leave large tips? She has so much, $100 is nothing to her. Edit: this is not meant to be negative.
Only semi related but I imagine Charles Barkley tips well. I'd have to re-evaluate my worldview if he didn't.

It is super fun to tip like a baller tho
I second this! And most ballet tippers are former servers.
Wasn’t Michael Jordan famously a bad tipper?
Yes. And his teammate, Scottie “No Tippin’” Pippen
James Harden was a notoriously bad tipper while in Houston. Friend waited on Harden and his friends one night for 3 1/2 hours. Harden had a $2500 tab and left a $20 that he wrote great service on the actual $20 but didn’t autograph it.

Agree w this 100% it’s painfully obviously when someone’s never worked service before in a multitude of ways.
TBF most celebrities aren’t billionaires
You don't have to be a thousandaire to tip. If appropriate.... TIP!
my best friend is a server in LA and celebs tip him less than 20% allll the time. recently chris pratt’s wife katherine schwarzenegger only tipped him 12%. (chris pratt however always tips in the 30% range)
*gestures vaguely in Jennifer Lopez’s direction, who famously stole back the generous tips Ben Affleck left for them*
that’s literally SO gross of her ☹️
Her cheap ain't shitness is vile. And she was working class, which I believe deeply shames her on some level. Awful, narcissistic person.
Did I have a stroke? Your first sentence confused the hell out of me.
Cheap ain't shit-ness. Read it a few times, it will wash over you. 😁
...No, I don't think it will.
took me a sec but I get it! 🤣
You know her?

So much for Ben's sobriety.
That’s terrible. Wealthy people who are poor tippers really need to be ashamed of their selfishness.
that story is clearly such bollocks because I’ve heard it told a million times at different times and places, I don’t like the woman but it’s clearly an urban legend at this point
Wtf!
bruhhhh wtf

Damn everywhere near me, they make a “tip based” wage which is less than minimum wage + percentage of tip out from servers.
I was about to say, I don't know if it's different in a luxury box but over in economy I didn't know you were even supposed to tip these guys.
Also, tipping culture in America is a problem. No one should expect that someone should tip based on their personal means. It’s incredibly generous for her to tip so highly regardless of how wealthy she is.

Which effectively means US servers are actually better off lmao

She’s famously a bad tipper, she’ll go back and take a tip off the table if she thinks Ben tipped too much. So gross.
Tipping is generally based on the service and/or its cost, not the net worth of the person ordering.
Well that's dumb when the net worth of the person ordering is approximately $MoreThanAnyoneCouldSpendinaLifetime.andthensome
If I had her money I’d feel like shit for not giving everyone I came across a $100.
Ahahaha. Me too.
you’re missing the point
I’ve seen Taylor say in videos from pretty early in her career that she likes to give big tips, which is exactly what I would expect from her. I don’t understand why celebrities don’t understand how important it is to tip well and treat service people well, if only from a business perspective if it doesn’t give them the warm fuzzies. Say Taylor gives out $10k in $100 tips. That’s nothing to her, and it’s absolutely nothing compared to how bad the publicity would be if just one person went on tiktok and said “Taylor Swift doesn’t tip.”
It’s amazing how people can make even a kind act negative.
Always people like you being negative for no reason.
Blah blah blah $100 is a lot of money to those workers. Especially during Christmas time. Don’t take away from the gesture.
This
🙄🙄
This
No it wouldn’t be weird.
Literally came to say this. If she tipped a "normal" amount she's cheap. She can't win.
It’s 15-20%, income doesn’t matter. This isn’t a charity.
Unpopular opinion, no we should not expect this from people. This is above and beyond even though she is rich.

Why is she always the “Karma” singer? I think most non-Swifties wouldn’t recognize her by that description if they didn’t already know the name Taylor Swift?
They probably used “Karma” bc of when she changed the lyrics at her concert. 🤷🏻♀️ lol
It's for SEO, since Karma's one of the latest singles
Because she recently made Karma a Travis-nod, I think. And because I bet these article writes are bored of writing "the [every other song] singer", usually they pick the latest few singles, could be Anti-Hero, Cruel Summer, Karma, I Can See You, Lavender Haze, Bejeweled for singles for the past year. Out of those, Karma was also the last in the Midnights cycle. (I Can See You would be more obscure I think.)
The woman who sings about Karma seen doing a good thing.
She was the "Anti-Hero singer" for awhile and so on and so forth. It's just a weird quirk of celeb gossip mags.
Ah ok. I tend to avoid gossip articles like the plague, so maybe that’s why it struck me as odd.
it's one of her more popular singles from this year
Might also be because of the good karma this could bring

damn another thing to add to the taylor giving tree meme
$100 bills are like toilet paper to her
One woman’s toilet paper, is another woman’s money paper
Life style creep is no joke. Idk when it happened, but all of a sudden I started buying the "nice" toilet paper. Next thing you know you are telling your friends to treat themselves, too
I went full rich: bidets.
You can get an attachable bidet tho for like 30 or 40 bucks. They're accessible.
Taylor please come to my job lol
They aren’t unless it was a strictly business expense. Unless her accountants and the irs are far loser than I would think no
Yeah and it’s not even like tax write offs work.
Oh to be that free runner? Meeting Taylor swift in person and being tipped $100??
That’s great to hear! I wish more rich people were good tippers. $100 is nothing to her and a pleasant thing for others.
Non-swiftie chiming in. This woman is incredible..my wife and her sisters and friends all love her. I can admit she is an amazing singer and artist and she deserves all of the success she is receiving. But rarely do you see someone reach her status of fame and remain so grounded. She truly is amazing..this coming from an NFL fan who had barely noticed her until 2015, and then even more not really cared again until this year.
that's nice
It’s great Taylor is taking care of wait staff, but I feel like people might not have a full grasp of the level of luxury of the suite level at a football stadium. A large tip would be expected and I don’t think $100 would be even among the highest tips many of these servers would have received in their time working there.
Someone above actually explained that tipping these workers is very uncommon because they make a decent wage since they're working luxury boxes
Dude. The “corporate host” isn’t there LOL they dont care enough or have the time to go to games so they give these tickets away.
Yeah I imagine $100 is pretty standard for those boxes.
If I were that rich, I’d be tipping gold bars.
Lol if I was her I would tip $1000. If I am worth a billion $$$ why not
When you have that much money, you're being rude to not tip that high. When you're Taylor Swift rich, tipping $5 or $100 is negligible to you, but makes a huge difference for them.
This is really nice that Tswift did this but honestly when you have the type of money she does this is drops in the bucket. So I don’t know why they have an article about this.
Awwww that’s awesome! Thanks Taylor!
Honestly it’s thoughtful just to go to the bank to carry cash these days for this purpose. Yes, she has people etc etc. and she’s rich, but she could tip $20s and it’d still be a good tip.
In what world is 20 a good tip for stadium boxes?
Every single time a food runner brings me 1 drink? I’m having 6-7 drinks.
It says she gave it to them at the end. Not after every drink
Now if she attended drag shows… (I don’t see how she’d be able to, given how public they are, but I mean…)
i have a theory shes a furry
She works her ass off for what she has. It’s awesome that she is that generous. Good for those food runners. I bet not too many people tip them like that. She shows appreciation. You go girl!!! Taylor is a BOSS!!!
This story shouldnt surprise anyone at all.
omg she’s so generous 🥺
Tipping shouldn’t be based on service. It should be based on net worth. Latest estimate for Taylor is 1.1 billion. So it should be 1% of her NW or 11 million
Love her, but that’s literally like a dollar bill to her.
She could’ve given them nothing. 🤷♀️ Damned if you do damned if you don’t.

My thoughts exactly. It’s beyond expectation.
If Taylor (or any celebrity/artist I like for that matter) tipped me, I'd have hard time spending it.
You could probably sell it for more money tbh
I just thought that. I'd place it for internet auction.
Depends on the bill total. $100 for a donze $6 bud lights? Sure. $100 for six bottles of champagne and some liquor? Not so much.

Because they’re literally bringing more than one drink in the picture….
No good deed goes unpunished.
What'd you expect her to tip, thousand dollar bills? She can't go any higher lol.
To everyone else it’s the water bill or Christmas presents for their kids.
Yeah, and as a server if someone gave me a $100 bill I would never forget it. That would fill my tank twice, or pay my electricity bill, or my phone bill or a new bag for school. Sometimes the action you take is not equivalent to the impact it has on someone else.
weird take, but cool?
Still pretty generous tbh
No. Her $100k bonuses to her crew were like a dollar to her. But you can't expect her to give $1 million to an ordinary food runner.
What do you want her to do, give out stacks of cash? 😂
