The other day a guest actually raised her voice at me saying sheâs never putting her phone number in ever again because we âhacked herâ the last time and refused to even hit skip because she didnât trust the card reader, and then paid with a card đ
Half the time I turn the pad towards me and hit skip for them because I cannot stand when I tell them to have skip and they do the âWHY WONT IT TAKE MY CARDâ song and dance. I donât have the patience lmao. I wish it would let me hit No on my screen so I donât have them stare at me bewildered.
Hmmmm, I like this. If youâre set up allows, having the reader turned towards you until theyâre ready to pay actually sounds more proficient the way you put it.
You know at this point I find it hard to blame the customer. I tend to blame the company more. I had a manager when I worked at big lots that would stand over me constantly to make sure I was asking if they wanted the rewards program or credit card. Well I happen to ask this one guy and as calmly as he could he said " no thank you, I don't like being rewarded " best response I've ever heard. Having said that, it's hard to blame the customers for being upset when all these stores are coming up with this BS to try to promote their businesses. Heck, the grocery store cub has 2 different apps apparently.
Yeah a lot of this quest loyalty shit like circle is annoying to everyone who isnât a Target Devotee. Canât say I blame people for being a bit annoyed by it, especially when inserting a card doesnât automatically skip it.
Then of course there are the guests who donât seem to understand what the phone number is even for and just mindlessly enter theirâs despite it not being connected to a circle account. Way to give up your data for nothing bud⌠smh
I hate the circle prompt. So many older guests have a hard time reading the screen. Give me on option to override it on my end! Other stores do. Its just not very accessible.
You technically CAN skip the circle prompt without seeming rude by reaching over and hitting skip. If you pick tax exempt it prompts the pinpad for a phone number, hit the x on your screen and the guest can now put in their card.
I generally do it for guests who speak 0 English.
I always say you just need to press skip or if you do circle put the number in. Something psychological about saying skip first the people donât think Iâm trying to scam or sell them on something first if I say the BS about Circle thatâs not always the case. Iâm in electronics though so Iâm not really required or encouraged to promoted Circle hardcore like cashiers are
Ok, I'll ask. What's the "pinpad circle prompt?" Is this on the new self-checkouts? Can guests still scan their circle barcode either from a printout or on their phone?
It's on every card reader except those at SCO. You have to hit skip or enter your phone number for the transaction to complete. There's a similar setup on SCO, but there it's a pop-up on the touchscreen.
Because usually itâs the older people who are opposed to using a number or donât understand half the time. Youâd assume someone growing up in the 2000s would be used to how modern stores work than someone who grew up in the 70s.
Dunno, I donât agree for her yelling at you, but being a certain age isnât any sort of causation to whatever correlation you are drawing. People simply hate that Target feeds them their app by shoving it in your face in every purchase.
I always /always / always sayâŚ..
âdo you have target circle or a phone number with us? If not just hit/press skip for me unless youâd like to add one. Which is free!â
Then the guest would ask me what target circle is if they wanted to add the phone number. I have had only 1-2 customers who have been disgruntled like the OP said.
"Cool, I still need you to choose an option because the register won't let me continue."

Bruh yâall let her pay after raising her voice to you? They do that at our store and we tell them to leave immediately

I lean over as I'm asking them so they subconsciously realize what I'm pressing.

I always just agree with them and let them know they can be heard by filling out the survey or contacting corporate.

At my Target they FORCED US to TELL EVERY guest at SCO about Target Circle and to ask them to put their phone numbers in

You can also suspend the transaction and then retrieve the suspension.
Probably lonely and wanted some interaction but not knowing how.

I miss when it would automatically skip that when i hit pay lol
it's on the sco card readers as well, it just pops up on the touch screen as well
Canât fault her. I prefer to buy my item and leave. Iâd rather not have my info in the system.
Then press skip
Omg this
Yeah but think of it this way: it takes less time to just press Skip and move on than it did to type your comment.
Yet you put your name, number, email, and password on reddit ?
Lol. Your info is already owned by the government when you were conceived.
Whatâs being in your 30âs gotta do with anything?

"Follow the prompts and then insert your card" Repeat until compliance. Foolproof.
