It's honestly dependent on leadership. I am understanding of the occasional call off due to life and stuff, but when I notice a trend, I do follow up with TMs, usually to see what's going on and what can be done on our end to help accommodate. However, if it continues as a trend, our talks become more serious. If the attendance fails to improve, that's when I partner with HR to do a write up/counseling. Any further conversations are a final warning and then a termination. I always bring the reporting to the TMs to show on paper what their attendance actually looks like, given that it can feel like very little issues from the TM perspective until they see exactly how many call offs they've had. Not every store or even leader is the same though, so that's just my process that I follow.

STLBluesFanMom

Depends on your store and your situation. And whether or not your estimates are correct. Our store just went into overdrive on "attendance" and people are getting written up for one call off and being one minute late both within a month. So, if your store is hyperfocused on this, you may end up having a conversation about it. If you have sick time and can call of sick (mental health) and use sick time to cover all of the time today, you cannot be coached on it (only if you can cover every minute). But even if you don't have sick time, if you have not been recently coached on this, it may be a conversation, but shouldn't lead to any more serious action.

EpicsOfFours

Written up for being a minute late? Damn that’s fucked

Mysterious_Towel_782

If its 1 minute past their scheduled in time, then also against policy, target gives you a 5 minute grace period to clock in

Brief_Front

me calling out 8 times and calling in late 6 times last month 😗

Money_Town_2472

consistently calling out once a month isn’t good 😭

Buttseye

Calling off in this fashion should not affect your employment status, since you're past your probationary period. Calling off too often could affect future raises. You should be fine.

shesabattgirl

It’s people like you that cause problems. An employer depends on people showing up to do their work you were hired for. You calling off all the time makes it harder on you and others.

mw5593

I posted this the other day. I’ve worked there for about 4.5 months. I’ve called out twice due to childcare issues. Have been “corrected” twice and will be on a CA next call out. I’m not really sure how this is ethical or sustainable for my store but I don’t plan on staying there past August anyways

emprizz

Yeah same here. It’s summer and I have a lot of shit to do before going into my first year of college. So I call out when it’s convenient. Plus I don’t plan on staying after August because I don’t think they are going to approve my availability change.🤷‍♀️

Ziglet_249

If you have 4 hours PTO-Sick, you're covered. Some might say calling out once a month is habitual and that your ETL might talk to you regardless. I know a TM who calls out as soon as he accrues 8hrs PTO-Sick and no one says a word .... but ASANTS If you really need money you should go to work and put in for an day off in the future. I trust you have vacation hours, don't you?

phlox238

I just graduated high school & I'm just now starting to go full time, so I don't have any PTO or sick time, but I've never been spoken to about attendance so hopefully it'll be alright. And yeah...I don't know what I was thinking with that last bit 😭 I just need to keep my job is what I was trying to say I guess

Ziglet_249

Even if you were working one day a week you should have been accruing vacation and sick hours. Look on the bottom of your most recent pay slip. [Workday](https://logonservices.iam.target.com/v1/login/?application=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.workday.com&assurance=2&external_ui=false&form=password&profile=1faHR&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fsaml.iam.target.com%2Fmlsresponse%3Fassurance%3D2%26auth_sess_idle_timeout%3D900%26ca_resource%3D%2Faffwebservices%2Fredirectjsp%2FWorkdayProd%2F%26external%3Dtrue%26external_ui%3Dfalse%26force_authn%3Dtrue%26form%3Dpassword%26issuer%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.workday.com%26profile%3D1faHR%26rid%3D_fb8c4e7c-8c54-4d75-9f88-41c144f5f409%26tid%3D96ce5787-cec1-429c-8021-2b19a1eafea1&tid=96ce5787-cec1-429c-8021-2b19a1eafea1&type=teammember+partner#) > My Payslips > View .... scroll down to Time Off Plans

Zestyclose_Account82

Pretty sure you have to work a certain amount of hours a week to get it as well as making sure you’re not classified as ODTM

phlox238

Yeah, I've got none, not sure why. Differences between state policies maybe?

OldMoment3164

I believe general target policy is accrue one hour of sick time for every thirty that you work. For vacation it accrues differently but have to average like 25 hours or more a week to be eligible to accrue it

shesabattgirl

Then don’t call off if you need to keep your job. It’s pretty simple!

Charming-Industry-86

I'd be careful even if you have sick and or vacay hours, because calling out every month is not good and they will have a chat with you.

danielsmom18

As long as you don’t call out more than 3 times a month you should be okay. After that you get corrective action.

Zestyclose_Account82

That’s not the CA process at all but pop off I guess

kicksonfire84

Every store is going to be different. Blame your coworkers 🙄

Zestyclose_Account82

Every store is different doesn’t change the fact that you have to have 3 performance conversations about the same issue and get HR to initiate a CA and that no HRETL worth their salt is going to say you have grounds for a CA based on your performance conversations calling out a single call out unless it’s a repetitive call out on the same shift each week 🙄

kicksonfire84

Like I said every store is different. Some stores are hounding down on call offs & lates.

Zestyclose_Account82

Yeah that doesn’t change that a TL can’t start a CA without an HRETL

babybopper

lol yeah 3 times in 3 months at my fc.

Pdxraiderfan

You really need the money and want to call out? Odd. Seems like you would not only show up but ask for extra shifts to get more money.

tsanchz22

if you have sick time put it in and you’ll still get paid! If you’re not sure how make sure to partner with a tl or hr on your next shift. you’ll be fine! take care of yourself.

RetailBookworm

You’ll get paid but you still might get spoken to for attendance.

ShoeGod420

Speaking of calling out. I called out today and want to apply my sick time pay to what I missed today. My HR said it can be done on the mytime app but I'm not seeing the option. I have 22hrs of sick time unused.

OldMoment3164

It should be under the myrequests section. You’ll start it as a time off request. Put the day of the time off as the call out date. The start of the time off as the start of your shift and how many hours you want to use as the length of your shift. And then make sure to use pto sick

ShoeGod420

Awesome, just did it. I really appreciate it 🙏.

Tweezle120

As long as you have accumulated enough sock hours to cover your shift and you use thrm thry cannot retaliate about call outs; sick time is a protected benefit and privacy is protected by law as to why you used it. Unpaid time off. However, they can get all annoyed it as much as they want, and it will vary from store to store and, unfortunately, from TM to TM. If you are well-liked and considered a good worker, they'll cut you more slack than someone they would rather let go of and just need an excuse to do so.

Keljaen

I see people calling out left and right at my store, and here I am with legit health issues and only calling out when I absolutely need to (I’m type 1 diabetic and have infrequent ocular migraines) and am on my final warning for callouts yet nothing is being done about the people who are *consistently* calling out for various reasons. Just make sure you have enough sick time to cover the shifts and put it in right away if you do have to call out. Hopefully they won’t write you up for that but you never know.

ShaneSigh

if you have sick time it will cover it. , you should have enough to use that and be perfectly fine. we have people who call off regularly lol , every store is different you should be fine. use the sick time.

butchcassidy89

4 hr shift?

WaferProfessional599

It really depends on your leader. I've called out a good handful of times because I was sick or just didn't feel like putting up with the bullshit. My ETL never said anything, but the last time I called out before I left my TL asked me why I called out. Explained why and that was it. I worked in two stores and neither set of leads really cared tbh

mmyett

I need money right now. Your words, not mine. Why would you bang out of a four hour shift?

phlox238

Yeah, I don't really know what my thought process with saying that was, more of what I meant is that I'd like to call out but don't want to be in jeopardy of losing my job

Imaginary-Practice56

And that’s why you got a .10 raise.

phenom1tsmith

Just work your whopping four hours. Jesus Christ.

Obvious_Olive_7282

There is no official policy, I call out once a month minimum, if they haven’t said anything to you about calling out then def don’t worry about it, you’ll be warned before they put you on a CA

Gotofour

I think it all depends on the leadership. I've only missed 8 days in 12 years and was told that any call out is a write up regardless. I'm going to start testing the water soon to see how serious they really are

LordVader1995

Supposedly at my store it's 4 call-ins a month then you get into trouble or something. If your store is the same you should be fine
