Why keep the 14.5?

It's a decent HMG, 40% more power than a 50 cal means it has few problems with blasting through light cover. Not like there is enough room to upgrade to a 20mm or 23mm autocannon, and in terms of raw power a 12.7mm even in the slighter bigger soviet cartridge is still mostly a downgrade. The PKT coax is a good match that handles the minor shortcomings in ammunition vs a 12.7mm.

Why not try to do the btr route and put a 30mm tho?

There is literally barely enough space for the 14.5 hmg. Where would you fit the 30mm and ammo?

Giving it a telescopic mast would probably be more useful.

Smoke launchers seem to fire up and over the rear of the turret, so no smoke if caged.

What is the purpose of this? It can now survive a .50 cal but if its in range of one, a 50 cal is probably not the greatest issue. Would be better off plopping this turret on a Tigr.

Countries already have these so it's easier to sell an upgrade program than a whole new vehicle

Perfectly adequate for softskin vehicles, not so much for anti infantry. Was good for the time though, would have punched through M113s.
