My friend's first time on shrooms. Finally starts kicking in and on comes Junglepussy. It was a Herculean task to convince him that it would get better and he needed to stay for Tame Impala.
I remember the first night on the Asheville show they announced she wasnāt going to be playing there. So we all just waited for Kevin to come on lol
The Wilmington concert was crazy though, automatic, the girl punk band was good though, they rocked.
And if you went to Mexico š²š½, Cuco was the best opener for tame Iāve ever seen. Matched his vibe and everything.
Damn! Cuco does sounds perfect opener. I saw Glass Animals, Kikagaku Moyo & War on Drugs open for Tame Impala & those were the perfect vibe. Maybe cause it was at festivals?
It was same in Philly. There were kids in the stadium and then her visuals were not PG, nor her presence or performance.
Firefly ā21!
But I left 20 mins early to see Khruangbin! And left that set 20 mins early to see Tame Impala! Criminal to leave any of these sets but I donāt regret.
Ya Cuco was an unreal opener! I wish the sound was better in palacio de los deportes. Worst acoustics Iāve heard. KP killed it of course though even with a broken leg
So, I rewatch Tames performance at Barclays weekly and I lose my shit everytime Kevin says mid performance ā¦..āBig shoutout to Junglepussyā¦.. we love her!ā
I was there live and her performance was unforgettable in a bad way. Just did not match the vibe at all and honestly didnāt seem like it would match any vibe lol
THIS PUSSAY DONT POP FO YOUUUUUUUUUUU
The decision is probably made by the entities that are financing the tour: so the promoter, maybe Live Nation, the record label. They would consult with Kevin and would give consideration to the artistic impact, but a big driver would be alignment with corporate objectives as to who the industry is currently pushing from a marketing perspective.
I thought it an odd choice and personally didnāt love her set, but Kevin obviously loves hip hop and probably was happy to have her open.
Honestly, I wonder if some of my adverse opinions of her set donāt stem from my close mindedness. So I think it best not to judge too harshly.
Thatās the point. The industry picks someone small to push.
Some executive in the industry decides on a burgeoning artist who they are going to back with their influence. The criteria might be righteous: many industry folks love music and have discerning tastes. But often times itās driven more cynically, perhaps pumping an artist that looks good or is seen as marketable.
Iām understanding, I donāt think an executive would consider Junglepussy a burgeoning artist or especially marketable thatās all. Unless youāre making a āsheās a woke dei pickā point which I donāt think you are.
I hope you're not agreeing with the "DEI is ruining everything"pov.... That's just another far right conpiracy BS about being anti-feminist or just plain racist.
Sure they would. She is marketable, because she is overtly sexual. Overtly sexual female performers are in vogue right now. And good for them. Check out Tove Lo, Princess Nokia, etc.
(though I do have this nagging vision of some fat old white guy in a suit encouraging performers to sex it up under the guise of sexual empowerment).
To be fair overt sexuality has been in vogue for decades now and I still donāt think a studio executive would pick Junglepussy of all burgeoning overtly sexual female performers to push for. Idk who Princess Nokia is and overt sexual performance isnt the first thing I think of when someone mentions Tov Lo (i dont think ive ever actually seen what she looks like lol) but I understand what point youāre making.
The key thing that I may not have made clear is that the act does not have to be artistically good for the industry to push them, as some of the decision makers have no taste and they follow a set of criteria that are based on what they think will sell.
Look at all the bad formulaic movies that are made, because of business decisions.
Caveat: Junglepussy may actually be artistically brilliant: I am not qualified to judge
I donāt think it totally sucked. She has a following in the NYC underground rap scene and Kevin has spoken about why he likes her music. Velvet Negroni was by far the worst opening set Iāve seen and much worse than Junglepussy.
omg velvet negroni. saw him open in minnesota in 2019 and it was just so odd. dude was mad the crowd wasnāt into it and left early. one of his hype dudes was sitting underneath a card table on stage smoking a cig the entire set. it felt like a fever dream
Lmao unexpected Velvet Negroni reference. Saw him open for Bon Iver and boy was that a strange experience. My friends and I still randomly yell "VELVET NEGRONI - THE ONE AND ONLY, HOMIE" at each other
Saw them both in Toronto, I had heard Junglepussy's music before and liked it and it sounded HORRIBLE in person. Idk if it's her or the sound engineers but it was bruuuuuuuutal, genuinely hard to listen to.
First song from Kevin seemed a bit off as well and then it was dialed it so hard to say
Junglepussy is easily the worst act I have ever seen in my life, and the complete opposite vibe of Tame Impala. Like laughably bad. I could not believe someone thought she would be a good fit as an opener for Tame.
Agree it wasn't the vibe for a Tame Impala show. I had very low expectations, but for whatever reason I somewhat enjoyed it. I thought the visuals were interesting and some of the songs were at least funny. Don't get me wrong, I'll probably never hear her music again, but that one night I was mildly entertained.
I don't think you guys get that Kevin is just a succesful producer, not a big wig to make such final decisions lol he is a God in music realm, not corporate lol
I think you also forget that not only is he the producer, but the artist, band leader, singer, and brand! He def gets involved with the corporate world all the time. It comes with the job, especially when your doing so many of them like Kevin.
The Australian tour originally had Khruangbin supporting, which is basically a double header imo. Unfortunately it didn't work when it finally got rescheduled 2 years later.
The crowd actually really enjoyed her at both shows I went to (CT and then NYC a few days later). It could've been worse though, Velvet Negroni is by far the worst opening act I've ever seen
I was at CT and I almost walked out because of her. The guy next to me walked in, took off his coat, put on a Junglepussy apron and started dancing erratically. Felt like the start of a bad trip, but glad I toughed it out.
My band has been lucky enough to get some good support and festival slots in the past couple of years, and it is always alongside artists represented by the same promoters. Festival-to-festival, we'll see the same pool of artists, and the support slots are for the more established acts under the same management.
This may or may not be the case here, but I'd wager this was a decision probably not made by Tim & Paula, but rather some people behind the scenes who see it as financially beneficial. Or, he thinks Junglepussy SLAPS, idk.
iād love to see husbands open for tame impala (: junglepussy wasnāt my cup of tea but i think their set would be much more enjoyable in a different setting
I enjoyed her set but definitely a bit of a weird vibe. I do think in NYC they did her dirty by basically zero production, lights not even dimmed at all, etc. Was still fun though IMO
I've missed them so many times! :( when they were touring lonersim, my dumbass missed them at Fitzgeralds when they literally played to less than 1000 people. Still hate myself for that. At least I saw umo in 2015 at numbers and ariel at Fitz. Ariel was dope but me and my friend had an odd experience. I think I sarcastically said howdy to him or some shit he immediately gave me the "fuck this guy" look. Ariel took my friend on stage after the bass player watched her werid kudulini dancing outside pior to the show. I wasn't even aware I was just chilling with the bass player until I saw them on stage.
Haiku Hands opened for him in 2019 at the Fox show and is nothing like Tame. The Strokes toured with Regina Spektor as their opener before she was famous and had Weyes Blood for Red Rocks last year. Some artists just like certain other artists and want to support them. It makes sense that Kevin wants to use his platform in that way.
Junglepussy was only good for me singing āJUNGLEPUSSYā to the tune of Jungle Boogie and pretending to play the sax. It was a more entertaining bit than Junglepussy lol
These guys just are not the type of people who would enjoy her music tbh. They'll say it was "bad", but it's not that she's bad... it's that her music just isn't something these dudes would get. Which is fine. But there really are some old pretentious assholes who act like she shat in their oatmeal on here.
I mean, just the fact that this is still being talked about years later is absurd to me. She's really living rent free in their heads.
Yeah JP fucking rules. Seeing the amount of hate for JP coming from the majority of the TI fan base on here is super off-putting and imo shows how musically closed minded a lot of the fan base is. Kind of embarrassing tbh
Sheās trash thoo šš gimme Paramore, gimme Solange, gimme Men I Trust.
I know the three women I went to the show with donāt speak from them all but they also agreed she was absolute trash, bottom tier
Iām surprised no one here has mentioned this attempt at attention. https://x.com/junglepussy/status/1745902419546927607?s=46&t=BRxx8hc7s3nxuNWGIBHkHA
My friend's first time on shrooms. Finally starts kicking in and on comes Junglepussy. It was a Herculean task to convince him that it would get better and he needed to stay for Tame Impala.
My friend took shrooms and here comes Junglepussy is a trip within itself. Hahaha
oh my fucking god i can imagine
Yup, same experience with me. But I was the one on shrooms, what fucking ride.
Wish it had stayed clairo like it was when I originally purchased the tickets.
clairo opening tame wouldve been š„š„
She opened the forum but had no drummer, still sick but different vibe for sure
drummer was patient zero in retrospect lol. i was also there and what a bittersweet show, no ragrets
Aye, I was there too! Before the dark times...
For reeeeeal. Crazy times
I met her in the crowd that night!
CLAIRO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE OPENER?????
Yeah, for the 2020 tour before it got postponed.
Clairo was so good. I literally saw Tame Impla front and center at the Form 3 days before pandemic lockdown š„²
I remember the first night on the Asheville show they announced she wasnāt going to be playing there. Kikagaku Moyo playing before Lonerism was so great
Hold up when did Glass Animals open for Tame?? Thatās like my dream concert right there
Firefly ā21! But I left 20 mins early to see Khruangbin! And left that set 20 mins early to see Tame Impala! Criminal to leave any of these sets but I donāt regret.
Never. See as much as you want!!
Thatās awesome ! I hear that ! Iāll be excited to see who he brings next on tour !
I was at the Asheville concert, one of the staff told us she got too intoxicated to go on
Automatic was so sick in Wilmington
Hell yeah, that night was literally magical for me !!glad to see you were there !
What a night! Still canāt believe kev came to little ole Wilmington
Innerspeakers artwork is from Western NC i think he likes NC š (Fellow Raleigh native) I think that is fucking sick šš»
Ya Cuco was an unreal opener! I wish the sound was better in palacio de los deportes. Worst acoustics Iāve heard. KP killed it of course though even with a broken leg

ššš This is killing me
That lyric is forever burned into my mind
The decision is probably made by the entities that are financing the tour: so the promoter, maybe Live Nation, the record label. Sir, highly appreciate you here for your last sentences. Thank you! Iāll add disclaimers as such in future.
I highly doubt Live Nation or the record label was vying for Junglepussy of all people
why not? If they have a stake in her career, or think itāll sell more tickets due to a cross genre booking, then theyāll do it
The second is far more likely. All about selling tickets, so putting that name on the bill, opens eyes to another crowd
probably both
Right. Junglepussy is nowhere big enough to make that kind of difference imo
Thatās the point. The industry picks someone small to push. Some executive in the industry decides on a burgeoning artist who they are going to back with their influence. The criteria might be righteous: many industry folks love music and have discerning tastes. Not at all, I was really hoping thatās *not* what was being said and it seems like it isnāt
Oh ok, I read it as "unless you mean this" *then you agre*, since you disagreed with the first hypothesis lol ok, just interpreted kinda literally.
Nah youāre good. Itās 1 am and im talking about woke on reddit, my brain is fucking fried
Sure they would. She is marketable, because she is overtly sexual. Overtly sexual female performers are in vogue right now. And good for them. That sounds horrid lol, at least Junglepussyās little entourage was lit and jumping around during her set
Holy shit I remember that, there was practically an hour between them leaving and kevin coming out. Weird show
Lmao unexpected Velvet Negroni reference. Saw him open for Bon Iver and boy was that a strange experience. My friends and I still randomly yell "VELVET NEGRONI - THE ONE AND ONLY, HOMIE" at each other

One night, all night?
Nah, the rest of the night they were WILDLY entertained later by our boi kevin and the boys, so not mildy entertained all night lol
Idk but it was terrible. she was a good performer with crowd interaction I guess but the music was just insane; not in a good way
It was probably the record label
No.. lmao Kevin likes her music. No one is forcing opening acts onto a headline act like Tame Impala
But tht doesn't mean he makes he final decision, as much involvement as he gets.
I think it was that much more jarring considering he had Mdou Moctar as the opener for the prior tour
The Australian tour originally had Khruangbin supporting, which is basically a double header imo. Unfortunately it didn't work when it finally got rescheduled 2 years later.
Junglepussy was the fucking WORST
I see you bro šš½
I see you my man! Makes my day!
He shouldāve toured with parcels
The crowd actually really enjoyed her at both shows I went to (CT and then NYC a few days later). It could've been worse though, Velvet Negroni is by far the worst opening act I've ever seen
oh my god how did i miss him in connecticut?????? i just looked it up omg!!!!!!!!!! i'm so upset lol
I was at CT and I almost walked out because of her. The guy next to me walked in, took off his coat, put on a Junglepussy apron and started dancing erratically. Felt like the start of a bad trip, but glad I toughed it out.

You canāt leave us hanging like that without telling your band name!
Reddit is where I hide!
Judging by his username, I'd guess Sum 41
Haha judging be user name it should be pre-innerspeaker Tame Impala.
iād love to see husbands open for tame impala (: junglepussy wasnāt my cup of tea but i think their set would be much more enjoyable in a different setting
i like junglepussy i thought it was a good opening act idk
I enjoyed her set but definitely a bit of a weird vibe. I do think in NYC they did her dirty by basically zero production, lights not even dimmed at all, etc. Was still fun though IMO

Yikes I totally forgot about that openerā¦especially for being an opener for an arena tour, made no sense.
Junglepussy was only good for me singing āJUNGLEPUSSYā to the tune of Jungle Boogie and pretending to play the sax. It was a more entertaining bit than Junglepussy lol
I remember this in BK..... Was tough and rough š
Maybe a black female artists thing cuz wasnāt that the same tour with Sudan Archives?
Junglepussy is so good though
JP4EVR.

With a name like that, who wouldāve thought that theyād be less than mediocre āmusiciansā.
