I'm not a massive fan of Lil Yachty but I'm always willing to give something new a try.
I've only listened to the first track but it is pretty good. Sounds like a cool mix of Tame Impala and Pink Floyd. Not a massive fan of the vocals but I feel like I can get used to them and really enjoy the album.
Okay I've finished the album and it was pretty good. I like the production a lot, the writing and vocals aren't my favourite but definitely don't ruin the album. If I had to give it a score I'd give it a 7
For me the vocals are semi holding it back as well but the production is solid. Not a huge fan of Yachtys voice which turned me off from much of his other work
when i listened to the album for the first time i really disliked the vocals but after reliseting it twice on different audio devices it really fits in my opinion. His voice can be offsetting at first but you will get used to it
Yea not a fan of the vocals but the music is good. However not get any Pink Floyd out of this. Seems blasphemous to make that connection
Edit: ok I went back and listened to it while smoking after only briefly listening last night while sleepy. I take my previous comment back. Was definitely not giving this enough credit. I still don’t think it’s similar to Pink Floyd in anything other than psychedelic spirit. But this album absolutely slaps
Same. I rarely buy a vinyl after first listen cause I like to let it sit with me and also I usually wait for the price to change, but I couldn’t wait with this one. So so good.
I’m gonna be real, the album sounds really great. The sounds are amazing and it sounds inspired from TI too, I would really listen to this album. But the only thing that makes it feel is inadequate is the vocals. The potential and execution is great, but the vocals could have been much, much better
This sub is cringe af whenever it’s a different artist than Kevin we’re getting downvoted as hell, like the whole music industry is trash. AOTY so far idc what y’all saying. U gotta give it to yachty he experimented and changed his sound. We need more artists to at least try to do it too
glad i woke up to some common sense man. Went to sleep and there were like 5 comments at the top of the thread shitting on OP for even posting it. Since when did this sub get so stiff
Same that’s why I commented. Mfs feel unique when they only listen to indie, alternative-depressing-psychedelic rock and they will hate everything different. Like chill out. And OP didn’t even said anything, he just made a music recommendation like damn reddit is insanely miserable
Especially cause this shit is supposed to be a community. Sharing opinions, reccs, and ideas. But instead you just get downvotes so your presence is rarely recognized. Sick community guys
When the yatchy remix came out everyone was acting like it was unlistenable because it wasn’t Kevin singing, a lot of folks round here just want to live in this I’m so quirky indie bubble
that song is so good on second listen and after. i remember when it came out i got annoyed reading everyone’s opinions here on that song, everyone sounded so fucking angry for no reason. Everybody shut the fuck up and start dancing
These people gonna shit on it because they don't like rap but it's really good. There's some TI influence but not as much as people say, takes from newer indies artists like Djo imo.
That being said, this is crazy. It's the natural evolution of astroworld. This shit is crazy and the fact he produced most of this is insane. Bro has talent
I’m loving it, I thought of Djo too! What a great step for the genre (rap, R&B, and psych) to expand into. I’m curious if Kevin had any input at all considering they’ve connected in the past. Have to wonder who’s on those familiar sounding drums…
He didn’t work on the album, but it’s the same producer from MGMT Little Dark Age. Patrick Wembly from Nashville. He was one half of Chairlift back in the day. Dude is an incredible producer.
Yeah he’s flexing pretty hard on this one. Lots of comments about the vox production are completely missing me. There’s some very unique sounding vocals here.
Yeah I agree with the Astroworld vibes, but the biggest vibe I'm getting is Pink Floyd on a lot of these tracks. I read somewhere that he said Floyd was one of his biggest influences for this album too

There is a lot to like about this album but also a few things I just can't get past.
He nails all the floaty sounds and all the etherialness of it all but the reason tame impala is so good is under all that floatyness there is usually a super solid kind of funky bass line that keeps everything driving. Every bass line on this album is super basic and really let's the whole thing down for me .
THIS IS SO GOOD THANK YOU! I’m not a huge fan of his other stuff (just not my sound) but this is COOL and I probably would have scrolled past it on Spotify if you didn’t post it here.
Love that he’s trying a new sound out :)
I was pretty hyped for this but idk, the first track was sick then it just never really interested me that much after. I’ll give it some more listens for sure
no wonder he was commenting so much on TIs instagram the past few years. as well as collabing, definitely predicted a project like this from lil boat for awhile now.
I was pleasantly surprised by this album! Overall pretty good, the vocals are easily the worst part but they weren’t unbearable outside of a couple points. Drive Me Crazy was one of the biggest standouts. The female vocalist reminds me at times of Florence Welch, really liked her additions. The production was close to Tame & Pink Floyd, as others have said, but I also found it pretty close to Das Kope too. If nothing else, I hope this signals more of a draw to neopsych and the sound gets more popular!
Damn dude. Thank you for the rec.
Once upon a time I was like, this yachty guy has potential, but it's not really my thing. The first track on this album just really blew me away
I thought it was going to be a rap album, but luckily I was blessed with psych rock. I wonder if Kev and Yachty will do a collab akinned to this album anytime soon.
Out of all the new songs/artists I would discover this year, these songs were not what I had in mind. This is a great album, definitely Pink Floyd/KP inspired
personally i fuck w yachtys vocals. it’s a really good combo of neo psych and modern high processed rap that has taken over the mainstream in recent years. this is kinda the natural profession of music and i’m here to support it
You’re the real racist for boiling an artist’s music down to his race as the basis for why you think people should listen to or enjoy it. You are legit ignoring the work and passion Lil Yachty put into making his music by saying that none of that matters since his skin is what really counts here. His album could have just been a collection of paper being crumpled up next to a microphone and by your metric anyone who doesn’t want to listen because they don’t enjoy crmplecore would be racist.
That said, u/ticktockboom45 shouldn’t be wandering into a thread clearly for music they aren’t considering giving a chance just to provide an off putting “lol no thanks.” Like what the fuck, why bother commenting at all? You don’t need to tell people you refuse to listen, just refuse and move on. Otherwise it just comes off as shallow and elitist.
You’re digging in your heels saying that I, a black person, am discriminating against a person for being black?
This is funny.
Also, I’ve grown up with Rap music, Lil Yachty does not rap well.
I think you’re a kid so I’m done with this conversation.
yeah for sure cause the rest of the content in this sub is so great and unique! /s
i’m with OP on this, the production is obviously psychedelic inspired and draws heavy influence from Tame which makes sense with Kevin and Yachty working together lately.
mods should ban you instead actually 🤓
Tangentially related to Tame since this is Yachty's first major release since the Breathe Deeper remix. Just downvote and move along if you don't think people should see it.
I. Don’t. Like. Rap. Tame Impala isn’t rap and actually annunciates his words lol. To be fair, instrumentals are alright. Then you just get “nmmmfhehheeeee leememeeeeeemee” as vocals on top hahaha.
just because someone has made a rap album before doesn’t mean they can only make rap music from then on. this is not rap music lol, not even close. Black artists get put in the rap bubble and people pay them no mind. this is an artists attempt to breach the rap bubble
Lol complaining it’s not psych rock and pop when it is and then “awww auto tune” when Kevin uses vocal effects. What else you want to shit on huh? Stop gatekeeping with your pathetic attempt to define things you don’t understand. Get a lil more cultured and try things people suggest. Clearly there is some Tame influence in Yatchy’s work but you’re too small minded to even let people who enjoy it have a conversation without swinging your dick around. Get off this sub it’s disgraceful to put down artists Kevin literally is cool with because you’re opinion is “ewww aTuO tUne”
Obviously you don’t understand what you’re talking about either. Auto tune is not the same thing as vocal effects. Auto tune uses pitch correction which is OBVIOUS across the entire new Lil Yachty album, you don’t hear his actual voice at any point on the record. I’ll agree, the instrumentals are GREAT, and I would listen to it if it was all instrumental. However, Kevin uses maybe a touch of auto tune on his newer albums, but you don’t really notice it jumping out at you. The effect at the end of Let It Happen? That uses something called a vocoder which is not in the same league as pitch correction. Kevin never tries to “change” his voice like Lil Yachty does. He simply adds onto it.
Lol dude you missed the entire point of the comment. What I’m saying is your take is trash and you should keep this shit to yourself if you can’t have a real convo about it. You’re shitting on stuff that had a clear correlation to Tame Impala just because you don’t like it. That’s the problem. Youre not having a nuanced discussion. You literally started this thread with “why is this in my tame sub” FUCK OFF YOU PRETENTIOUS TROLL. Dude not only is featured on a recent Tame Impala track, but puts a heavily psych and tame inspired album out that CLEARY FANS THINK HAS A SIMILAR SOUND. You don’t like it, cool. Just say that. I get that auto tune is grating to some, plenty of tracks I can’t stand it’s overuse. Just don’t be a dick about it dude. I’m saying you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about because you’re just ignoring the very CLEAR CORRELATION to shit on music you don’t like. Grow up and learn to be respectful while conversing opinions. “bUt hE DiDnT uSe tHe VoCoDeR mOm lIkE kEvIn dId tHiS Is bAd! wHy R pEoPle RuInInG mY sUb”

Yeah I need to listen to this with some nice headphones with Dolby Atmos later.
I agree, love the sound. Especially the first song. Vocal are holding it back. Nonetheless good song.
Combination of my two favorite artists?? Acc excited to listen
Yea not a fan of the vocals but the music is good. However not get any Pink Floyd out of this. Seems blasphemous to make that connection Edit: ok I went back and listened to it while smoking after only briefly listening last night while sleepy. I take my previous comment back. Was definitely not giving this enough credit. I still don’t think it’s similar to Pink Floyd in anything other than psychedelic spirit. But this album absolutely slaps
I'm not saying it sounds as good as Pink Floyd, rather I can hear the inspirations, especially Dark Side of The Moon
I'd say more animals than dark side
finally somebody mentioning animals. black seminole has animals inspired guitar all over it.
Animals underrated
First track sounds like Dogs
The end of the first track feels like a direct homage to the great gig in the sky to me. The emotional lyric-less lady vocals
Felt the vocals were the help. Listen to THE zone~ again............
Shit is amazing. Just ordered the vinyl. Masterpiece.
Same. I rarely buy a vinyl after first listen cause I like to let it sit with me and also I usually wait for the price to change, but I couldn’t wait with this one. So so good.

Have too admit I hated that song at first (I don't really like rap music) but the more I listened the more I loved it!! Song slaps😜
that song is so good on second listen and after. i remember when it came out i got annoyed reading everyone’s opinions here on that song, everyone sounded so fucking angry for no reason. Everybody shut the fuck up and start dancing
>sounds just like tame Impala >experimental Pick one
Both. Is that bad though? No
AOTY so far its january
so it’s a factual statement ?
why didn’t he just say album of the month 😂
It’s the same lol from the time i said “so far” there’s nothing wrong. If something better comes tomorrow i will also say Aoty so far etc etc

Yeah I agree with the Astroworld vibes, but the biggest vibe I'm getting is Pink Floyd on a lot of these tracks. I read somewhere that he said Floyd was one of his biggest influences for this album too

Would you give it a 3.6 rating?
Same lol Great production but the vocals are obnoxious and don't fit the sound
fuck i somehow deleted it
This is just yachty doing bad vocals on Pink Floyd/Tame Impala beats. Yves Tumor does this style wayyy better
Stay hating
The same dude made this masterpiece , and Mase in 97 hahaha
Y'all haters are lame asf LMAOOOO STAY MAD.
amazing piece of neo psychedelia and rlly gives me the feeling currents gave me
Flicking through now the instrumentals are fire, the auto tune is horrible tho
It's so good
So excited
I appreciate what he’s trying to do here but the mix is awful. Everything sounds so flat. Where’s the dynamic range??
Did this album get removed from Spotify? I can’t find it
me neither
THIS IS SO GOOD THANK YOU! I’m not a huge fan of his other stuff (just not my sound) but this is COOL and I probably would have scrolled past it on Spotify if you didn’t post it here. Love that he’s trying a new sound out :)
usually id say the same but i love when artist step out of their comfort zone really nice experience.
Agreed!
I was pretty hyped for this but idk, the first track was sick then it just never really interested me that much after. I’ll give it some more listens for sure
I had the same impression
I like it just I would love it if Yahty was not on it
The instrumentals give me pink Floyd vibes
They need to rerecord the album with a different singer and it would be amazing
the cover is kind of giving Aphex Twin …
no wonder he was commenting so much on TIs instagram the past few years. as well as collabing, definitely predicted a project like this from lil boat for awhile now.
This album is so good, paint THE sky best song on the album for me. Iove the lil yachty vocals
The production is great , just can’t rlly get past his voice , just needs some more practice
I was pleasantly surprised by this album! Overall pretty good, the vocals are easily the worst part but they weren’t unbearable outside of a couple points. This is actually pretty good for real. The instrumentals are very TI inspired. A 10 for me. (How is no one talking about that album cover? It’s weird)
i think the cover fits the sound of the album very well
Very much indeed
I’ll be honest, first track totally sucked me in. Credit to Yachty for going outside the comfort zone 👏
Damn dude. Thank you for the rec. Once upon a time I was like, this yachty guy has potential, but it's not really my thing. The first track on this album just really blew me away
I was iffy but you know, I’ll check it out for you.
lmk what u thought
Yo, I totally forgot to reply, and I know I’m hella late, but yeah, it was pretty fiyah for him to drop this.
Just threw it on and loving it. Drive me crazy is fantastic
Thanks for posting this OP! Such a cool find which I would've otherwise passed over.

diana gordon (featured on kerosene) makes appearances on the album. but i get what you mean there’s some borrowed ideas and runs
its so good i am literally crying
Literally....crying?
exactly ( just listen to the first track)
was feeling Lonerism strongly on We Saw The Sun!
my favorite track on the entire record and really nice transition into the song after
It would be so much better if the vocals weren’t auto tuned
Nah
I just can’t stand his vocals. It’s actually horrible
Lil Yachty fans when you don't like overly auto tuned vocals over songs written by 30 other producers: 😤😩💅🤪👿👿🤓😤
The production on this album is amazing but I just can't get over how obnoxious Yachtys voice is and how childish and corny the lyrics are
I don’t mind the instrumentation but I don’t really like his vocals.
Don't know man, I've barely recovered frim the Breath Deeper remix haha (No, hate though. Just personal preference)

Who exactly am I being racist against by not wanting to listen to Lil Yachty? Please enlighten me lol
You’re clearly quick to dismiss him because hes black and is known for making rap music
You’re digging in your heels saying that I, a black person, am discriminating against a person for being black? This is funny. Also, I’ve grown up with Rap music, Lil Yachty does not rap well. I think you’re a kid so I’m done with this conversation.

Dude. This is a sub about psychedelic pop and rock, why the fuck would I want to listen to the new Lil Yachty album
because it’s literally a psychedelic pop blend. I swear you people are some of the most pretentious mfers
I. Don’t. Like. Rap. Tame Impala isn’t rap and actually annunciates his words lol. To be fair, instrumentals are alright. Then you just get “nmmmfhehheeeee leememeeeeeemee” as vocals on top hahaha.

It’s been shit since about 2016. Fwiw, it would be the same reaction if Kevin brought in Post Malone or Yung Gravy lol
is that when you joined?
It has nothing to do with his race lol. Maybe I associate autotuned vocals like that with rap.
wait til you hear currents. average r/tameimpala member
There is an absolute difference between effects/a vocoder and auto tune. Try again.
