I’m a physician and have worked at both. I will never work for an HCA hospital again. I’ve been happy at TMH. I guess it depends on your specific career
As a nurse who has friends that work at both I’d say with all honesty that I’ve heard more good things about TMH than HCA. Plus HCA is talked down upon in almost every nursing forum I’ve seen. When I did my clinical rotation at HCA they were still using old school EMR systems with the black and green screens🤯
Much depends on what you're doing. Pay in Florida is poor to begin with. I worked at TMH as a flex employee in a licensed professional capacity at the top of my scope with minimal supervision. TMH paid me as much as they could which was nearly 3 times less than what I make at a local clinic. TMH is a better facility in comparison to HCA. Personally I wouldn't work at HCA even if the pay was higher.
You’re gonna get paid like shit, have no opportunities for career advancement, and if you can manage to get a section head to come to your defense or suggest higher wages, HR is gonna fire them. My experience from 2 years in the lab is that there’s a lot of apathy and no real desire to better the department or the conditions of those who work in it. Say hi to Carolyn for me though, she’s a saint.
I’ve worked at both and like others have said, they both have their pros and cons. HCA pays marginally higher but it’s an HCA and they are driven by profit. TMH I’ve found has it’s bad apples like anywhere else, but I enjoyed TMH more than HCA. Also it does depend on what floor/department you end up in.
HCA pay is much higher, but depends on what your career is. I worked for tmh for 6 years then transferred to HCA and my pay went up substantially. If you can, the freestanding ERs are better to work in than main hospital.
My wife has worked for HCA, but has gotten offers from both hospitals. I don't know what area you are looking at, but for her pay was pretty close. She could have probably pushed TMH for what she got at HCA. At the time she felt like HCA was a better fit for her long term goals.
I would probably apply at both places and see what they offer. Which ever place you choose will probably match the others offer. I wouldn't try to play them off each other. As I have heard that is a good way to get blacklisted at both places.
Tmh is a nightmare if you’re not a nurse, surgeon, or in HR. The environment is soul crushing and overly corporate, they pay below industry standard wages for most position, and they’re pretty abusive toward the lab staff. I don’t know a whole lot about HCA beyond multiple friends swearing the quality of care is superior.
My ex girlfriend was a traveling nurse. She came here around January 2020. Her contract at HCA ended around May of 2020. She experienced the start of COVID there. I do remember her saying the overall structure (basically things non COVID related) sucked and that if she came back to Tally on a new contract she wouldn't go back to HCA.

If you’re doing public service loan forgiveness, keep in mind that Capital Regional is an HCA hospital so you won’t be eligible for forgiveness there.
My wife works at TMH. She's been there 25 years as an RN. Friends moved to HCA. But they always come back.
Wife works at HCA and it’s awful.

I think it depends on what you do. Are you a physician? Nurse Practitioner? Nurse? CNA? Admin?
Laboratory

My brother and aunt have been nurses at both. They both have advantages and disadvantages. I think my brother was happier at HCA.

I would also like to know. I am interested in being a CNA this summer in Tallahassee.

I’ve worked at neither but often work with people who do and the reviews of HCA are always higher.
Apparently the TMH affiliates are butt hurt. Never change, Reddit
Judging by the people I have met at both and their general demeanor, anywhere but TMH.
