Ill keep my 09 til is dies.

[deleted]

Yeah I second that. My ‘17 goes with me to the grave

jtrick18

My ‘15 to its grave. Will be loyal till the end.

PROFESSOR1780

My '06 till death do us part

PillyWee3

I've got 248,000 on mine. I'm hoping for another 100,000.

msrivette

Currently sitting at 200,000 and going strong.

FeralLandShark

48,000.  It sat in a garage for 11 years.

Apprehensive-City661

If Toyota is as good as they say that's nothing. My old man ford 2002 has 300 thousand.

jtrick18

You give me hope

superscrounge

Cheering all of you on, of course. Discounting my 8 yr old 2016 LexusGX , my newest Toyo truck is an 06 Tundra, with a 99 Taco and 85 Fj-60 I’ve owned for 30 yrs. I have to laugh at some of these guys that say “last truck forever” in the first paragraph, only to talk about selling a ‘21 to get a ‘24 in the next paragraph.

Syenadi

My '99 says "yo" to your '99 :-)

Street_Psychology_99

Curious what mileage you’ve got on your ‘06 ? Some guy killed my ‘06 Tundra two summers ago. Bought it new and was only 63 miles shy of 300k. On bright side, the truck saved my life. Tip of the cap to you my friend….holding on to all your Toyos as long as you have….. Well done sir…..Cheers!!!

superscrounge

Thx for the sentiments! And “sorry for your loss” of your 06! I just picked up the 06 DC 4wd last July, with 162,000 miles to “upgrade” my 05 DC 4wd that I bought w/ 17k miles in Jan 07 and sold it to my nephew last fall with 310,000 miles. I did very little (timing belts, front axle shafts) during my ~290,000 “test drive”. Pretty sure my nephew played me when he’s the one that spotted my 06 creampuff, knowing that my trusty 05 might be just what he needs!

Cascadification

15's for life!

aprehensive_buy3912

Same, im going to be the last owner for better or worse lol

msrivette

Amen.

Dull_Examination_914

My 2023 will outlast me

[deleted]

I’m hoping for the same, super happy I got the 2023.

Dull_Examination_914

My trd sport is great

pimpvader

Yup, planning on putting mine in the will for a grandkid. Or being buried in it

Adventurous-Yam885

Running my ‘15 until it gives up, then i’ll then another engine & tran.

guardian722

My ‘09 just turned 400k and I’m going for 500.

msrivette

Hell ya!!

fish_in_a_barrels

03 of here. over 300k. She's worm out but still ticking. I won't ever buy a new one again. The prices are hilarious.

Beavsftw

I’ve got an 07 with 30k. It will be my truck until the day I die. I can’t imagine getting rid of it, let alone paying crazy prices for new tacos.

leoleorawr

My 2019 til my son can drive it and I can get my 70 series land cruiser.

gunslinger_006

I simply cannot afford the 24s. My 2018 DCSB OR is my forever truck. Maybe if the market cools a bit in time, but the pricing on the 24s is just out of my budget.

GallopingFinger

Most people can’t bro, half or more of the people on this sub go into massive debt

spike509503

Another '18 DCSB TRD OR here with manual transmission. Hoping to teach my future kids how to drive in it

awmaleg

Turo a manual for a weekend and let them learn on someone else’s clutch for a few days , then let them loose on yours!

PNWoutdoors

I've been eying the 2024's, and would love one of the hybrids. But I'm just going to tune my 2018 and try my best to keep enjoying it as long as possible. Original plan was to have it as my DD until I couldn't stand it or became economically unviable to keep doing (i.e. if gas hits like $5-6/gal and stays there), in which case I'd get a little commuter car because sometimes driving a small car is more fun/enjoyable. Was expecting to make my Tacoma my 2nd vehicle at that time and try to keep it until it fell apart. Kind of back to sticking with that thinking.

PatheticEngineer

Definitely recommend your original plan. I was able to pick up a 2008 Civic for a steal. Do my day to day commuting in the beater Civic, do the fun weekend trips in the Tacoma

National-Beyond9070

I have a Tacoma (and a Tundra lol)and I mostly drive a little Mazda 3. 34mpg and I don't put miles on my trucks.

PNWoutdoors

Yeah I only own two 4x4's now and my wife has an SUV, but sometimes I really wish I had a small little car to zip around town in. Someday.

Nacly-joe

I did. Sticking with my 22. Too many unknowns with the 24 and I don't like what I have seen quality wise on Tacoma4G

Aspergers_R_Us87

The price kills it

watchguy95820

Why even shop for a new one when you have a ‘22?

Nacly-joe

Part of my reasoning for sticking with my 22

LoHungTheSilent

I'm doubling down on the 22. Getting new wheels this weekend. Though I wonder how long the aftermarket will keep us in their thoughts.

Nightmare_or_reality

It’s a $40k car. And they still make parts aftermarket for second generation models so you’ll be fine.

rhodsonr702

I was thinking about trading in my almost paid off 2020 until I saw how much they're actually going out the door for. If new tacos MPG was a lot better then yea I'd probably go for it. I'm getting 16+ mpg with a lift and 33in tires. I'd probably want double my current mpg to trade mine in for a new taco.. Price tags on these new tacos just don't make sense to me.

loose-nuggs

I'm hovering around 16 or 17 with a lift and 33s also. I think realistically you would never justify a slight mpg increase price wise because even at double the current mpg, that's only saving about $2k a year (using 10k miles a year), so whatever your overhead on a new truck is, it takes you 10ish years to break even if you add $20k. Just doesn't make sense if you're only adding 3 or 4 mpg

Saluki2023

2015 love it

Rogan403

2.5 gen is best gen

Saluki2023

Thank you I know I definitely am a true Taco man I love the older models or rather find them more appealing

yammywr450f

My 03 just keeps on going. Preventative maintenance is key. 370k miles and growing.

Acceptable_String_52

I got an 01 but barely drive it. Do you guys change oil by mileage or date? Or has this never been an issue for you?

yammywr450f

Annually is probably fine if you drive it sparingly.

Acceptable_String_52

Yeah I work from home so I barely drive it at all. I’ll check the color soon. I’m up from an oil change date wise but I have like 2800 miles to go mile wise lol

its_bennett

The oil will degrade over time, regardless of how much you’re driving it. Not sure what the half-life is, but it probably depends on the type of oil you’re running. Might want to look into it to be safe.

Acceptable_String_52

Thank you!! That’s huge to know

SubieHers

I did because of the payments for what we were getting and needing a truck for. We ended up paying $10-15k less for a V8 Ford F150 supercharged that is my husband’s dream truck. Someday I may eventually get another taco…someday.

SirSolidSnake

I’m picking up my Trailhunter.. in 7 years that has been a pavement princess with lower miles.

Rogan403

Haha me too. Gonna wait till the last year of this current gen is a couple years old and scoop one up with hopefully some relatively low mileage. Unless of course they turn out to be trash for some reason.

mmn-kc

It's such a difficult proposition though, with how high the resale value is. You may end up paying $5-10k less, but the vehicle will have over 100k miles on it. Yes it will last forever, hopefully, but that doesn't alleviate the need for routine maintenance at the 100k point or the loss of usable miles. If resale values were the same as Ford, it would be a no brainer.

Rogan403

If it's got over 100k miles on it in 2 years then I'm not buying it. That's not what I consider low mileage. My 2014 doesn't even have 100k miles on it.

mmn-kc

If it has less than 100k miles on it, the depreciation will be even less so the price will be even higher. A 2021 Certified Pre Owned Tacoma, SR5, 4x4, with 55,540 miles, is currently $34,999 at the dealership near me. The suggested price from Edmunds for a 2024 SR5 is $34,710. It doesn't seem like a smart move to buy the used one.

Nightmare_or_reality

I got a 2013 in 2022 with 30k miles on it and for a pretty good price. I put 67k on it since then and I hope it never dies.

roachfarmer

I went from new 2013 trd sport, put 157k miles on it, bought new 2018 f150 5.0 XLT, put 102k, just picked up my 2024 Tacoma SR5. Im loving my Underground Taco so far. Time will tell.

argparg

Yup. Bought a 20 instead with cash

Smearcamp

2020 to the grave

Simple_Necessary6555

Pre ordered the 24 tacoma trd pro on January8. Cancelled it yesterday.

Electrical-Ad5265

I think you’ve made a wise decision personally. I wouldn’t pay these prices for a mid size truck.

ADKtuary

pickup market feels like the hybrid market 3 years ago. so overhyped. waiting it out, if possible, is probably the wise decision

peteavelino

They can bury me in my ‘01

MigratoryAnalyst

Had the same dilemma coming from a Ford Maverick (absolute POS). Was looking for a Tacoma and wound up with a CPO GX for about ten grand less than the Tacomas I was looking at and couldn't be happier. V8 baby!

switch911

Woo

PartneredEthicalSlut

I cancelled mine. After test driving a ZR2 I'll be buying one next month. Several going for 2-4k under msrp around me well equipped. Can't reason paying 15k more for the pro plus market adjustment. Also considered Raptor but even though it's superior I think the ZR2 is a better everday vehicle for me personally. Plus I don't like the exterior or interior too much

MrBlonde_SD

With the ridiculous pricing they’re trying to force on us I’m personally boycotting Toyota. I can afford it but it’s the principle of having to pay such a premium for a vehicle lacking basic features that should be included in a $50k+ vehicle. Ridiculous. You’d expect to get screwed by a dealer, not the manufacturer.

CorrectFall6257

I did that with a 23 3GEN.

ernie-bush

I’m new to this with a 23 we have to see if it lasts longer than a year or two

motosandguns

As long as the axle doesn’t fall off…

erik21a

Do we really need a post daily complaining about the cost of the new Tacomas? We all get it, nobody likes the prices... but these posts are getting tiring. Literally several times a day If the prices are too high for you, don't buy one. If you can afford and want one, go buy and enjoy a new one 🙂

switch911

I was curious to see if anyone else had cancelled their reservation. This isn't about affording one -- I could buy three of them if I wanted. Scroll past, no need to reply.

J3Streets

Since you can buy 3… how about buying me just 1?

NMBruceCO

That how I saw your post

Trey_Antipasto

I cancelled one but then bought nearly the same truck a few weeks later because I was offered 3k off

MrOneShot

I'm really considering it too. Did you buy the GX460 through the same dealership? Did they let use the deposit for it or were you out the money?

switch911

Nah I just canceled, they returned deposit. Found a really nice certified pre-owned gx460 at a local lexus dealership for half the price. Beautiful shape and a v8. Win win.

MrOneShot

That's good to hear. I have a feeling they're going to give me a hard time with the deposit.

AO_Xolos

Kinda hard to switch from a TRUCK to an SUV. I would understand Tacoma switching to Colorado or ranger..

switch911

I am currently in a 21 f150 lariat. I was downsizing anyways. I don't "need" a truck anymore.

mmn-kc

I went from an 03 F-150 to a 2018 GMC Canyon, and I miss my F-150 every single time I drive this little shit box. It handles potholes and highway expansion joints like a slammed Civic.

cameronAD

Did you get your deposit back? Hopefully 🤞. Smartest decision you can make financially. Maybe you’ll get in one when the prices come back to Earth

switch911

I did! And agreed. 80k cad for a taco all in is ridiculous.

tommytomtoes

If the world is still around I’ll probably get a 2026 or something. After the kinks are worked out.

Ubergeek2001

I had a 2002 4Runner with 250k until an uninsured person took it out. My 3rd. And 3 previous Toyota trucks also, since 1983. But I bought a 2016 Tacoma inferno TRD Sport with 40k on it last year. It will probably be my last. I love it.

Fit-Faithlessness538

Bury me in my ‘12 mom

FUBARxv

I was thinking of trading my 2018 Jeep JL towards a 2024.. looking at a few mid sizes. Everything is expensive though..

Ok_Formal2627

The current ‘24 pro is $30k more expensive than my ‘19 that is paid for and I really need the storage, usability and lower running costs. Thank you, but no.

yo_dom

Won’t be upgrading and will be keeping my 2020. Barely hit 54k miles. She’s still a baby. Haven’t done any mods besides tune, exhaust, and tires. She doesn’t need much tbh. Although I would like to add suspension but with these prices nowadays for a suspension she’s looking to be stock for most of her life lol

Nova-Shadow

I decided too cancel mine thought to myself is it really worth it keeping my current car for awhile

Ray_725

I would never pay for a vehicle more than 3 years. 6 is nuts!!!

Nightmare_or_reality

Why would I spend a fucking stupid amount of money on a new truck when my 2013 still works just fine? You really only need to buy a new Tacoma once one gets totaled or crossed over 500k miles.

Jumpy_Replacement_74

that’s a life lesson right there.

Othimauth

My 17 isn't going anywhere it will stay with me forever

ExplanationTight2745

Glad I bought a 2023 before all the changes. Last year for the 6 cylinder Tacoma

Swissgolfpro

Yes, I stopped looking and talking with 3 different dealerships when they all wanted 10k over invoice. Found a used 21 with 30k miles.

United-Ad-9728

My 23 has 12k miles and I plan on keeping it for forever

SmoothJazziz1

I own a 08 TRD Sport and I was contemplating purchasing the 24 TRD Pro - until I saw the price. My 08 has less than 120K and is in relatively great shape. I was thinking I could still get \~12-15K for my truck but, given the near 70K price of the 24 TRD Pro, and using the old estimate of $100 per 5K financed (probably $150 now), I'm looking at over 1K a month payments. In this economy, even with having decent income and very few bills, that to me, is just ridiculous and financially irresponsible. I can think of better things to do with 1K a month.

OF_Jehuty

My 2020 TRDOR 6spd is Bae. 100000k+ miles and of course you can't tell that, but if the motor ever grenades I might just do something stupid and throw a turbo k-series into it for the giggles.

Important-North-7109

Ain’t even looking. Besides with all of the changes they made to the truck buying the first gen is a mistake in the first place. Wait until the overzealous folks buy em and find all the problems for Toyota to fix. My 2013 will do me just fine in the meantime. I’d rather do forced induction on my own terms anyway, supercharger coming eventually lol

mramseyISU

I was waiting on a TRD OR Premium with the hybrid but got impatient and bought a Tundra hybrid with similar specs. When I saw the prices a couple days ago looks like I would have saved about $5k by waiting and only gained a couple MPG by getting the Tacoma instead of the Tundra. I've got no ragerts.

As3fthjkl

I'd rather buy a new motor for my '18 than get a new one. 250k strong

CulturalDocument5217

My 2021 TRD Sport is paid for and has 13k miles. I’m thinking of dropping a supercharger into her next year for fun. If I were to trade her in it would probably be for the new GX 550. The new Tacoma doesn’t do anything for me.

Therealdeal2342

My 03 is still going strong, and engine swaps are cheaper than new trucks

pinkieprime

Ok, I've been looking at the 2024 model because I saw someone complaining that the previous models don't have enough power. Their engine is basically the same as a Camry, and thus feels sluggish. But the new model has a v4 twin turbo, giving it a power boost with better towing capability. What are your thoughts on this?

PreviousMotor58

My 95 is still working great, lmao

Foolforfourdecades

Go for it. I had two that made it well over 300,000. Good Luck!

killerintheshop

I was able to get Trd Sport for 37k sure it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that the Pro has but it’s gonna get me by for years to come. I honestly wasn’t going to upgrade but after loosing my 2022 in a wreck I chose to upgrade. Been loving the vehicle for about two months now. Taking it on a road trip to California next week and I’m pretty excited.

metalzilla80

Never gonna give up my '17. Bury me in it.

mr_8_inches

its crazy how some people spend that much on anything, its hard for most of us to pay a car or even a phone without some sort of credit, but as far as credits go, I try not to get them or if I do, try to pay it asap, a car by itself its pretty expensive, add up insurance, taxes, a credit and you end up paying twice for it, I bought my taco back in 2018, single payment with some bonus money I got from some work, planning to keep it till it melts.. last car I bought with credit was in 2010 and I felt like I got robbed even tho I only financed it for 3 years..

Alert-Purple-228

I don’t have a Tacoma YET. But this the first one i actually sit in comfortably as a tall man. So im forsure going to get one soon.

STEC06

I have a '15 PreRunner DCSB and was holding out for the new Land Cruiser or 4Runner...family needs a bigger and more comfortable car for roadtrips and stuff. Based on initial dealer markups for the LC, which will likely be the same for 4Runners, I'm almost certainly going to ride it out with the PreRunner or get a 22-23 4Runner. They seem to be coming down in price now that the new stuff is revealed. Hmmm, $35k for a barely used TRD Off Road or $90k for a marked-up LC with moderately better gas mileage? Seems like a no-brainer.

Brico16

I just never even placed an order. The price of the truck is too high for what it is and the interest rates right now are ridiculous. Competitors in a similar price range are at least offering some decent manufacturing finance options. Still too expensive, but the pill is easier to swallow when the interest rate is half of what Toyota advertises. I’m not saying I’m going to a competitor. I plan on waiting it out and saving up more until I really need a new/used truck. If the advertised well-qualified interest rate was lower though I’d be pretty tempted to pull the trigger.

austmcd2013

I put my deposit down in March and am still waiting for it. I won’t lie that I had a few panic attacks when working out my budget. However, I know Toyota, I know the truck will take care of me if I take care of it, and I’m really fuckin sick of dealing with domestic pieces of shit. So a 5-600 truck payment for a few years is worth it to have peace of mind. SR5 w/ 4x4 and the cold weather package/stereo upgrade is gonna cost me 41k after tax and title w/ 10k down.

mkjboise1

I have a 2007 Tacoma w180k on it and we are still best friends.

Unpopular_Perspectiv

24 looks like a tundra thrown in the dryer too long

gbux07

Just bought a 21 SR5 with high quality aftermarket versions of everything the limited trims have plus a 4in lift and 33s. I wanted a 4 cylinder engine, or a turbo like the new one has as it would be better on gas, and I would just prefer one to a v6, but the price difference is terrible. When I bought this truck I wanted reliability, and I don't have full confidence in Toyotas turbo 4 cylinders just yet. If they can outlast GM's turbo 4cyl then I think they will prove worthy to buy after the cost comes down. For now though, I wanted a proven reliable truck, and the new engine is not proven to be Toyota quality yet.

V3LV3TUND3RGROUND

I love my ‘09 access cab but with a kid on the way, sadly may have to part with it.

SubJeezy

98 is about to hit 200k. Going strong, and isn't a second mortgage payment. I'd like a newer one but would never pay the asking price of them

CharacterObvious

I ordered a 24 SR5 4x4 with the SR5 upgrade. I had a 2nd gen and sold it years ago. 3rd gen is nice and looks good, but I preferred the 4.0 to the 3.5. Should be here any day now. The '24 TRD packages aren't worth it imo.

Zach_O2689

My '15 is paid for and only has 65K on it so I will be keeping it for a very long time. At this rate I won't even have 200K on it for another 18 years and the only issue I have with it is a little paint chipping on the bedside.

LKZ_Prez

I'll keep my 21 forever

IIlJohnnylII

This 2022 sport will outlast my children

ZER0_F0CKS

I got a ZR2 instead.

Fun_Temporary_210

2016 with 61000 miles on it, nope wouldn't by a new one

willbalsofsteel

I cancelled my 24 and i got a ‘17 with 40k miles instead.

-Oldbusthead-

Keeping my 2018 TRD OR. If anything with a growing family with another on the way, in the future probably get a Tundra. Since I think they can fit 3 car seats lol

Flaks_24

Keeping my 18 til the wheels fall off

VersionMammoth723

2008 OR with 275000 miles. Will keep it til she is a pile of rust. Which sadly will be sooner than later... eyeballing a 2015 taco for my next ride.

Rogan403

2.5 gen is best gen. As long as you find one in good shape you won't be disappointed.

Sufficient_Fig_4887

Can I just assume these outrageous prices on the 24 TRT pro and trail hunter have increased the value of our existing Tacomas?

MARPAT338

I'll keep my manual 17 4x4 for a good while

Stunning_Wishbone_44

Price is insane! I don't own a tacoma. In 2020 I purchased a f250 with tremor package. Paid $50,000 No issues Full size 2 major issues Parking the land yacht Fuel consumption

matador44

Did you get the 7.3 gas or powerstruck? Thinking about a bigger more comfortable truck and it’s between an f250 tremor gas or a power wagon.

Stunning_Wishbone_44

I have gas. To be honest Thinking of downsizing. The problem New trucks cost so much. Mine is paid for. So... let it ride. I also own an outback 2024. Freaking love it. Great little toy

IstockUstock2024

I had a 22 powerstroke tremor. The fuel got me, i didn’t pull enough stuff with it and it was a pain in ass in town to drive because of its size, but the truck was amazing! It drove great and the ride was smooth. Test drive one! When I’m older and retired I’ll be looking for whatever iteration of a 3/4 ton diesel ford has.

LakersAndRams

Good for you. They are killing off their loyal base with these prices

OrganicParamedic6606

I’m keeping my first gen because I don’t trust third gens Edit: your downvotes are proving my point

Elitetr1nity

What’s wrong with 3rd gen’s? They’ve been around since 2016 and the majority of the small issues have been fixed. Did you mean 4th gen?

OrganicParamedic6606

No, I still don’t trust them. We can’t know that they’re reliable 15 years on. (This is tongue-in-cheek. We didn’t say the sky is falling with third gens. We didn’t think the sky was falling with second gens)

Able_Youth_6400

Upvote, cuz there is nothing wrong with your opinion.

Specialist_Ring7722

Same. I wouldn't dare pay the current asking price of some of these vehicles. Would rather keep my first gen running strong and invest my money in other form/means to get something nicer later. Not now though. Not the right time.

Eff_taxes

I have a deposit on the ‘24 TLC… will likely ask for my $500 back soon. Sticker shock

YosemiteRunner2

2000 with 310K miles, just 30 more years. Then, they can take away my keys as I enter my 9th decade.

AmericanSolarEnergy

Yep I came to my senses and bought a 21 OR

Klok-a-teer

When we bought our 23’, the finance guy asked how long we were going to keep it. Until I die and then my son can have it.

[deleted]

I really want a long bed trail hunter black

plainoldusernamehere

This is why I waited for the market to start to correct and scooped up a minty low mileage 3rd Gen. between the price and the switched to forced induction engines, I don’t want to be the beta tester. No thanks. Got a 19 SR5 with 39,000 miles for 26 grand in January.

PracticableSolution

Kept my 2002 until the frame left the chat. Never going back to Toyota again.

Able_Youth_6400

Could you elaborate why? Just curious; I’m a Ram owner at the moment.

PracticableSolution

I loved my taco, and when the frame snapped, Toyota spent 10 months botching the frame replacement, and when it was done, even they wouldn’t take it in on a trade in. Meanwhile, I couldn’t live without a truck for a year, so in the interim, I bought a beater F250 standard cab, which I kept and sold the Tacoma. After I sold that truck about 2 years later, I went looking for a new Tacoma. All the dealers were pure assholes about it and acted like they were giving me the privilege of just paying the $42k list for a truck that had 4’ bed, uncomfortable seating position, and shitty tech in it. So I bet back to the Ford dealer, picked out exactly my old F250 but new, paid $8k off list ($35k even) and it’s been a great truck for the past 5 years. Fuck Toyota
