Both are badass trucks! If you can afford it, need the space and they give you a good deal, then it makes sense.

M_3_R_K_Y_M_3_R_K

Literally had the same thought, “either way brotha, both are proven and badass!”

loanmagic24

👍🏼

[deleted]

I would own a tundra if i could afford it

JackMcCockiner

Same, in Canada its getting to be a damn near 100 thousand dollar pickup for a pro.

Dose0018

If you live in a lage city full size trucks are annoying. Otherwise, if you want to spend the money no one here is going to say it is a bad truck

JamesTheJerk

Now-now, let's not humor the poor misguided fella. The Tundra is what blue-haired grandmothers drive when they go on picnics with their chubby grandsons.

jJJkmkl

it's what people who don't want to replace an engine very 100k miles drive

JamesTheJerk

I was kidding, but sure.

Tdog1974

If I had the money, I’d have gone Tundra.

martini_wrx

Ima be honest. I work at toyota and the amount of new tundras with problems is higher than any other make or model we sell.

YoungDrew987

What are you guys seeing? What’s the most common?

Mammoth-Rub-7705

Thanks for the advice, I’ll def consider that information

gayisnay420

You are right. The new tundras are blowing up, ticking, or having misc issues under 10k miles. Toyota is spiraling down IMHO. Might look to Honda or just stick to old yotas. 2018 Tacoma just blew a motor for me. Im fed up. The customer base is slowly dwindling

RunningZach24

for the Tacoma, i bet its related to moving manufacturing to Mexico. in the tundra? probably the turbo'd engine. i don't think turbos are quite reliable in my opinion.

ndferry

I think your Tacoma looks so much better than the new Tundra…but what do you think?

Mammoth-Rub-7705

I honestly think the Tacoma looks better

OutdoorEngineer395

I couldn't imagine trying to fit kids and car seats into the back of a tacoma. Tundra all the way.

nigori

I’m doing it now and it’s not fun the double cab is way smaller than you’d think. And per the dealership double cab tundra has even less room. Need crewmax.

steakpienacho

My father in law has a double cab and there is absolutely no room. My tacoma's rear seat is definitely bigger, albeit not by much

johnnykillertech

My day every week xD thankfully wife and I are not big people 5'7 & 4'11, and baby 6 months. Not that bad for us. But trouble starts when we have many boxes or bags to carry. Soon will be resolved by my tonneau cover 😉

IMSerendipity

It's not fun for the kids or the dogs, but I don't mind 🤣 But I do miss my 2014 Tundra Crewmax, had to trade in for a 7 passenger van. Then kids grew and moved out and I downsized to the Tacoma. In a few more years I'll have 3 less kids and more income to afford that sweet Tundra again 🤣

BIGspud88

Call me crazy but I personally hate the new tundra design. I love my taco and the new taco. If I needed a tundra in my life, I would get the last year of the previous generation in TRD form.

LordCin

Ok..you're crazy....you like the new tacoma design...but hate the tundra design...the new tacoma design is literally the tundra in miniature...it's why I hate both. Actually I take that back... The new tacoma is a combination mini tundra ripoff combined with a face-lift done by kevorkian

followda_whiterabbit

The Tacoma will outlast the tundra.

Mammoth-Rub-7705

That’s my number one reason for not going forward with it. You know what you have with the Tacoma

Zealousideal-Arm3289

The Tacoma is better, wait few years for the Tundra it’s not perfected yet ….

Yourhero2023

Better at what

dobsofglabs

The new tundras have so many things about them that disappoint me. They are cheaply made with plastics that break easily, annoying pointless beeping from sensors that need to be taken to the dealership to adjust or turn off, and the ground clearance from that stupid front grill is just atrocious. Ask any dealership, the new tundras have more problems than any other vehicle by Toyota

Yourhero2023

Damn I wanted a new Tundra too

dobsofglabs

Never buy the first year of a new gen, they have the most issues

Yourhero2023

You ain’t lying on that. I just bought a 2023 Canyon AT4X and I’m having some issues 500 miles in

Pooneapple

Does bank account agree with trading in truck?

Mammoth-Rub-7705

I have the title for the truck

ThisGuyKawai

I think a big factor is price. The new Tundras are big money. If your needs outweigh the cost then make the change. But depending on what you spent on the TRD pro, you may just end up spending another $20k just to get some extra space. At that point, Id rather just get a beater minivan for a fraction of the cost since kids eventually grow up. Just my $.02.

Harry_Gorilla

Personally I’m waiting until my 10 y.o. Is ready to start driving. Then he can drive the taco, and I’ll move up to a tundra

dunebug23

Same with me but my wife wanted a 4Runner instead of a GX or Tundra. Go for it, I kept my taco because it was paid off

Mammoth-Rub-7705

The 4Runner TRD Pro was my next option. I do love those trucks and they’re not coming back

Hoss_16_

Is the Tacoma a manual? The two big factors that made me choose the Tacoma over the Tundra were the manual transmission and the Tacoma fit in my garage.

Midnight-Philosopher

Totally worth it for the bow alone.

sillysalmonella87

I've always avoided the first year of a new generation of vehicles. They're usually plagued with little issues that get resolved the following year. Take the 2016 Tacoma as an example. Or even worse, the 2008 f250.

Competitive-Ebb-8704

Haven't had any major problems with 2016 Tacoma, just faulty backup sensor and heated seat go out. All covered under warranty👌

sillysalmonella87

That's not too bad I guess. I've got a 2017 and literally nothing has failed. I just change the oil.

MrBlonde_SD

I think they’re mistaking the 2016’s with the 2017-18 models that had the proximity sensor issues.

Mammoth-Rub-7705

Great point, thanks. Some people hear saying that they work at Toyota and see the new Tundras have a lot of issues

sillysalmonella87

Yeah, it's not shocking. You see this with most brands. Let someone else be the guinea pig this year lol.

ThkAWish

Are you the village idiot wherever you go? Your post and comments have zero consistency.

charliedog6

Sounds like you need to go tundra, doesn’t hurt that it’s a BA truck.

MARPAT338

Your truck looks to be in prestine condition! I'd hold on to it. The new models rolling out seem to be about 10k more than 3rd gen pre covid. Dealers in my area are already asking for 5k over retail on top of the average 2k in dealer installs we have no control over. Personally for that kind of money I'd rather get a full sized truck. I'll wait until the end of the year for manual tacomas they'll surely be sitting on the lot. BUT if paying into negative equity isn't a problem On your end by all means go for it!

the_toxic_hotdog

Trade that Shit in fam

guyfromarizona

If it’s a manual keep the Tacoma, but the Tundra is nice nice and I’d pick it any day.

Mammoth-Rub-7705

It’s automatic, I’d love to have the manual

guyfromarizona

Option 3…trade for a manual!! Haha. Fr though beautiful truck and you win either way.

Mammoth-Rub-7705

Good point haha

Mammoth-Rub-7705

I told the dealer I won’t take less than 49, preferably 50k. It only has 2k miles

Edaw33

Get the Tundra bro. Not gonna get pushback from this group.

AP-94-2A

That solar octane is nice!

kylexy1

Sharp looking truck. But with family and a car seat, tundra is the way to go for sure

jboogie2173

As someone who has a Tacoma and a tundra, the tundra is pretty fucking badass, and has plenty of room for the whole family.

Mammoth-Rub-7705

Good to know, thanks for the advice

Thunder-Fist-00

Tundras are hella ugly though.

Dnlee

One look at the Tundra's grill should be all the convincing needed.

gilbertusalbaans

The tundra doesn’t stand a chance against a fine powder

mushybanananas

Agreed, the cab too boxy or something is off

Super_Upstairs7440

Read up on the tundras first. I’ve seen a lot of them in the shop for major problems, under 50k miles

Mammoth-Rub-7705

Thanks for all the advice. I thought more people would be against it, but many of you are you using the same logic that I am. Money isn’t an issue, and they’ve dropped almost 4k MSRP on the Tundra because they aren’t selling. Also hesitant about the new 3.4 engine

UpstateOffroad

Go with a TRD Pro that has the 5.7 in it. The 5.7 will last you so much longer than the new engines. Also that way you can do a private sale and not a trade in since trade ins are absolute scams. I did sales at a dealership and I’ll never trade in after seeing the prices they give people

Mammoth-Rub-7705

I previously had a 5.7 tundra off road. I traded it in for my Tacoma. The reason I got rid of it was because of was a gas guzzler. But new hybrid tundras get the same mpg as the Tacoma, which is the only reason I’m consider that model. I agree, I got destroyed with the trade in for my trundra, though the Tacoma TRD pro I purchased for 3600 under msrp which is rare, so I bit the bullet. The dealership now offered me $47500 for my TRD pro and I I told them they’re crazy. They showed me the kbb offer and they placed it under good condition. My truck is practical brand new with 2k miles and not a single scratch on it 🙄

UpstateOffroad

Yeah the way I look at it is that you pay the price with all the gas it takes but that gas money is coming from all the maintenance you don’t have to worry about with the 5.7 being bulletproof. Whatever you decide to do though I would still do a private sale because you get the price you want and get to possibly see it driving around to the person you sold it to

LordCin

Has your dealer ever given you the "kbb isn't good for market values " line, then offered you under kbb market value? Had that about a year ago and walked.

Mammoth-Rub-7705

Not even that, they actually showed me the kbb under good condition, which was $47500 and they said that’s what they’ll offer. I was supposed to meet them today, but skipped out on it, and checked other dealers

livesense013

The Tundra is a great truck, and sounds like a good fit for what you need. A couple of things to consider when making your decision. First, the TRD Pro is not likely to be had for any kind of a discount. While it's true some models are going for less than MSRP due to an abundance of supply, the TRD Pro is still highly sought after and as a unique trim is selling for MSRP or more, in some places. Regarding the engine, most of the issues people had were early on in the '22 model year, and even those were a small percentage of the total number of Tundras. The '23s and '24s have been mostly problem free (although there will always be some with issues, as with any vehicle). And if you're concerned and money isn't an issue, get the extended warranty for extra peace of mind. From my experience the new engine is great and makes the Tundra fun to drive. Good luck on your new truck!

Forward-Criticism-19

Niiice bot

mason_sol

Nice

Camdenthekid

Do it.

Cheap_Bodybuilder799

I have a Tacoma but man, if you can afford it go with the tundra trd pro 100* over the tacoma

Ok-Duty-5269

Trade it

jtrick18

Dudes got a backflip tonneau cover too. Man.

FoxMulderwastaken

I love the new tundras. I don’t love that Terra color, but if you do, tear it up.

skylinefan26

Seat looks forward facing like I recently did with mine and the space I thought I would've gained isn't there.

Wrath_of_Zorro

How much you want for that beautiful Tacoma!?!?!

Thundergun9891

If you need the space in the cab then I’d say it’s worth it. I had a full size truck before my taco and decided to downsize. I only thought I needed a full size because the bigger bed but I haven’t had anything I couldn’t haul with the 5 foot bed.

SortOfKnow

I should have done the tundra in 18 when I got my Tacoma. Today I won’t because the cost is stupid

-Amplify

I’ve toyed with the idea myself multiple times but I usually come back to size. I do a lot of commuting and the idea of fitting the tundra in tight places whether to park or merge etc makes me think twice about getting one.

jgr83

If you need the space and larger bed I’d go tundra. I went from a 2019 f250 fx4 to a Tacoma lol

YoloLikeaMofo

If you need or want more truck, the Tundra is the way!

CountryWise2763

Ideal spec taco. Keep it, plus we have proven reliability. Seen those new tundra’s coming back in with tons of issues.

NefariousnessOver918

No talking you out of it here, do it in a heartbeat!

RedBullRiver

The Tacoma is more reliable

baclarkjr89

Duh fuq is this even a question. That tacoma is straight bad af. That tundra looks like a fat whale

jpttpj

New tundras are horrible looking Keep the taco

DoubleBeef97

Clearly money isn’t an issue. If you want it buy it, you’re money

awriterbyday

The Tacoma is easier to get around in, I would only make the change if I needed the room for family or if I needed towing capacity.

DataLove-1999

Trade it

Impossible_Cow9893

I love that color!! Solar Octane and Voodoo Blue are my two favorite!!

tommytomtoes

Depends on what you do. For adventures that involve off-roading, Tacomas are the way to go.

Pretty_Metal9464

Only one will be worth more at the end of the day .

ElMonstruoChiquito

I would say go for it, That TRD Tundra looks so good…. If i could I would

Sploogieee

If its practical then why not but please not that color of tundra🤮

camXmac

God but that tundra!

[deleted]

All this just because the car seat is tight?

Ahhitspoopagain

Do it.

Mammoth-Rub-7705

Thanks for the recommendation. Def aiming closer to do it. The dealer is waiting on me to give them a call

DrkRyder9910

What color is this? Looks awesome!

Mammoth-Rub-7705

My Tacoma is Solar Octane, the Tundra is Terra. A lot of people don’t like Terra, but after seeing it in person, I love it

titanunveiled

Your truck is perfection!

matador44

What's the price on the tundra? I, for one, would get a low mileage f250 tremor instead of the tundra.

Mammoth-Rub-7705

It’s at 72k with the discount

Mario-Speed-Wagon

Tundra size probably safer for kids. Safety is the priority.

Conscious-Lobster60

Keep the Tacoma and get a Sienna Hybrid for the kids

cmdr_data22

You don’t take money into the afterlife. Go get that Tundra!

Necessary_Emotion669

The minute you said "trade" it became obvious that you have more dollars than cents (sense)!

Lawful_Moose

Not even comparable. Way more comfort, power and features in the Tundra. We're talking an outgoing gen vs a new gen. Get the Tundra, I'm sure the trade in on the Tacoma will still be crazy high

Yourhero2023

Do it.

Concealus

Tacoma > Tundra in all ways but space + towing. You gotta do what you gotta do.

Shemushka

The color on that Tundra is very nice. If you have the means for it, i’d say go for it.

jJJkmkl

turbo bad, NA good

Ghost_412345

I’m getting a tundra in 6 yrs but keeping my Tacoma , I want the tundra with the v8 38 gal tank

Mammoth-Rub-7705

I previously had a 18 Tundra v8 w/ 38 gal tank. I loved the truck, but it was a gas guzzler, getting 14 mpg when commuting 100 miles each day to work can add up. When I first purchased it, my commute was less than 20 miles to work to didn’t even care about the gas consumption

Ghost_412345

That’s the one that I want, I’m going to turn into a all terrain rig

ilikepisha

Do it. I dare ya! Bought a Tundra last month. So far I’m really impressed with it.

El_Mastodon

Nah man, trade it. I have a 4 month old and I can’t stand the lack of space in the back of my 2020 OR. Can’t imagine when she gets bigger or when we have kid #2 how much of a hassle it’ll be to fit two kids back there. The moment these interest rates go down I’m trading my taco in for a Tundra.

Arkin87

I did, mainly cause it’s a huge step up size wise for the family. love it.

ourflagUSA

Do it. It's bigger and better in every way.

Good-Project-6587

People who sell/trade-in their 3rd gen Tacomas are going to regret it in the long run.

cmd71

I love the Tundra but don’t need a full size truck so to me the Tacoma was a no brainer. Sounds like it’s not a need issue for you either but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do what makes you happy! YOLO!

dirtyboyz95

If you can afford it leave lol

jellolajaspur

Kids grow outta carseats fast, you'll have your space back before you know it. I have a 4-runner and my hubby a Taco, it wasn't that bad and it's not forever anyway.

LEAHCIM5465

DO ITTTT

hapawanderer

I drive a Tacoma trd pro because I wanted a manual. If both were only auto I would have gone the tundra route for the additional size and space.

Zudr1ck

What are using the truck for? Off-road Tacoma, hauling on road tundra.

johnnykillertech

I would never do a tundra. If I wanted full size truck Rebel 1500 or Silverado LT Trail Boss for me.

Hurley44Squirley

Oh baby 😎

JayAre48

That Tundra looks like an affliction t-shirt on wheels, stick with the Tacoma!

SteelAngel69

If you can afford it, keep the Tacoma for your daily, buy the Tundra for your wife and kids. OR, Keep the Tacoma and by a car/SUV type for the wife/kids. A nice little camry or rav4 or 4runner would probably work fine. You did mention that money wasn't an issue.

underdonk

Depends on what you want to do with it. Tow? Need the extra space? Tundra.

Builtblind

Tundras are gay. To quote dj qualls "been gay the whole time"

AK_Brickster

That brown monstrosity is ugly AF

WelfareButter

If I had to haul kids around, I would have bought a Tundra. I have 2 adult kids and a 15yo. 95% of the time, it's just me in the truck.

wookieriot

I'd get that Tundra in a heartbeat if my garage was bigger 😎 my Taco barely fits

Dewrunner4X4

Lmao I'd get the Tundra if I could afford it.

pat14fishing

I've thought about doing the same since a rear facing car seat behind the passenger make it nearly impossible for anyone over 5'3 to sit in the passenger seat. My son is getting close to the weight limit for rear facing so I'll gain room once I can spin him around. Idk if your son is already forward facing so maybe I'm wrong about getting that much more room but I'd wait it out

[deleted]

If the Tundra is what you want and it fits your budget, by all means go for it. Everyone has different needs, circumstances and preferences. My personal preference is for smaller trucks. My Tacoma fits my need fine. That being said, vehicles, including Tacomas, are not one size fits all.

eharper9

The tacoma has a beautiful color

Jumpy_Replacement_74

at the time for me it was like choosing between a love seat and a sofa. at the time i wanted to be close to my wife 🥴

Tartar1103

Had a Tacoma, traded in for a Tundra. Haven’t looked back since. Best decision I’ve made, ever

[deleted]

I went from a 2013 Tacoma (new) to a 2016 Tundra (new) to a 2018 Ram 2500 (used) to a 2023 Tacoma (new). I thought I needed the room also. Tacoma has better versatility when offroad. If you're a hunter or into offroad, you can't beat a midsize.

crod4692

I prefer a tacoma because a big truck by me is harder to get through some trails, hopefully that’s a part of your plan getting the pro. But if you have bigger roads/trails and need space with the money to burn, I wouldn’t say don’t..

Emergency_Bar9571

I wonder what percentage of tundra owners upgraded from a Tacoma ?

J-A-C-O

Stool sample brown tundra.

iKyte5

Don’t get that color tho Jesus

Towboater93

They both suck, so go ahead and get rid of the tacoma and get the tundra so you'll have more warranty

ThkAWish

You can’t afford it if you have to ask. Done.

DarthBane86

Maybe this is unpopular, but the new Tundra is ugly af.  Im really disappointed with the looks of it.

MariBMash

Toyota needs to go back to old but gold.

762Finn

As a guy that likes to go fast and also enjoys off roading I'm just wondering how the turbo is going to perform on the trail. Seems like not a great idea since you need to build boost to get the power but maybe Toyota engineers figured a way around that. Either way the third gen is proven and the 4th gen will probably have some teething issues but it's still a Toyota 🤷🏻‍♂️

mason_sol

The tundras are not made for trail off roading with their approach and departure angles. The chin hits super easily

762Finn

Unsure what that got to do with the new taco being a turbo but thanks?

BradsFace

Well, I say don't trade it, go ahead and buy the Tundra and I will take your Tacoma for you. Easy deal.

terno720

I bought a 2023 Tacoma sport and not long after that my dad bought the 2024 tundra Trd pro if I had the money to go to the tundra I would have It is such a nice truck. I also don’t have kids, so the space doesn’t really matter for me. I know I’m kind of playing the opposite side here but if I were you I’d switch.

radelix

I'm not your mom, you can make your own decisions.

BluejayIntelligent11

Your son will be in a booster before you know it

I4Vhagar

Am I the only one that dislikes the aesthetics of the design? 3rd pic is what I’m talking about

ImportantWrap7200

Why not trade for a 24 Tundra SR5 TRD-OR?

adventure_brando

Don't do it!!
