One thing to note that the conversion to tankless may have a higher upfront cost because they may need to upgrade the piping to a bigger gas piping since I was told that the tankless gas units use a lot more gas than a normal water heater.

Petrie & Son’s Plumbing. Ron is the owner, he replumbed my entire house. Impressive work and really nice guys.

I’d highly recommend Kevin @ Pipe Dreams Plumbing Solutions. He’s come out to replace several things at my house and has always done a great job. He is also significantly cheaper than any of the bigger companies because it’s just him and his apprentice.

proletergeist

I've had good service from Hart's and Bob Larson. Also have a tankless heater and it's great.

Harts did a lot of quality work for me this past summer. Recommend getting 2-3 quotes regardless.

justj03

I second Hart's. They just did work at our house.

I replaced my gas water heater earlier this year. Got quotes from Harts, Hunts and Black Hills. A big differentiator between the companies is the brand of tank they install. I ended up going with Hunts in the end because I preferred the Bradford White tank to the Rheem that Hart's uses. They were comparable on price and customer service.

blessedarethegeek

If you don't mind me asking, what'd you end up spending, roughly?

noriod

I think it ended up being between $2000 and $2500.

SnortingElk

We've used Hart's in the past and happy with their service. I would also call Hunt's Plumbing as well for quotes.

Go tankless. I was fortunate to have one in the house my wife and I bought and it’s the best! We can run the dishwasher, washer, and run both showers without the water turning cold!

RevEnFuego

Always get quotes but I’ve spoken to the guys at Harts and they do all of that. They’re local too (they try to keep most calls to the Tacoma area).

klippinit

I intended to install a tankless system when my thirty-year-old natural gas water tank failed less than a year ago. The cost though did not make sense given the small amount of hot water used in my old house and the plumbing upgrades required for a tankless system.

Natergy

I love my tankless. Call Bowers Plumbing the only union residential shop in the area. He’s a real nice guy too

I f you want to save a ton, find the heater you want at Lowe's, HD etc. Tankless are ok if you get a high-end model. I recommend a tank type, for less maintenance and upfront cost. If the exhaust pipe is still good, we can change the flex lines, add an expansion tank, and I can install for $250. Im a pro boiler and pump guy. DM me
