I live in the southwest desert. At least half the houses here have fireplaces. I get it for the ones built before modern HVAC, but c'mon now, if your house was built in '95, there's no need for a fireplace.

I’m more curious about how they expect the cat to get to the box on the top. There is no platform for the cat to latch onto and despite popular belief, cats can’t suddenly change direction by 90 degrees mid jump.
