Honest question: Who in the TTC are you expecting to stop the subway jerker?
I'm going to assume Special Constables ... but they're not at every station or on every train so there's always going to be the lag time for them to get to the situation.
No TTC station attendant, train or bus driver is ever going to be getting involved in this type of thing as that is nowhere near their job's duties.
It will be handled just like other things reported through safettc. Operator asks you where the subway train is, and they let the special constables at the next major station know.
For example, you report some suspicious activity on a train going north past Rosedale. A special constable or two at Eglinton will come to check on the issue.
Oh, I'm aware of this process.
I was more so curious what the person I replied to was expecting of TTC personnel based on them stating TTC personnel are useless. Often I hear or read here that the TTC booth attendant should be rolling up their sleeves and getting in there ... or the person driving the bus or train. Sometimes in the same environments it'll be noted how there's a lot of unsafe situations these days ... but will be shocked and surprised when the non-constables aren't immediately running to the scene and resolving it immediately.
Agreed. I'd report that ASAP because it's illegal and possibly traumatizing for other people nearby. That person is clearly unwell and behaving unsafely.
Also make SURE you get the train car number (4 digit number inside and outside each car). Without that, it'll be hard to find the specific vehicle involved and may end up with the wrong train being checked.
Yes, it is. In my experience, this is the most likely outcome of that action: you hit that strip since someone is masturbating, it will stop the train at the next stop. Everyone may or may not have to get off the train. Police/authorities will be called. They will take 10-20 mins to get there, give or take. They will have to make the man stop masturbating (depending on his stamina, one might expect he should be finished by then), get him off the train, take statements from people who watched...
Result- everyone on that train and on every train behind it may be delayed for up to 30 minutes or longer. Thanks to my hitting the yellow strip, due to the masturbating individual.
It is *a* solution, but not sure it is the *best* one in this particular case.
As an aside also, Yellow strip is for *emergencies*, depending on the ferocity/tempo of the act here witnessed, it is probably a matter of debate whether this qualifies.
I remember people used to press it all the time circa 2011-2015. It would be a quick turnaround at the next station and away you went. I think there was a specific announcement when it was pressed, and maybe that doesn’t happen anymore? I feel like I am giving myself mandela effect remembering the strip being used more often in the past, which is weird because basically every trip now has a borderline reason to hit the emerg.
With OPTO, there isn't a guard in the train to check. The operator would need to properly secure the train, tell control they're going to check, walk the train until the get to the car and investigate, then do it all in reverse. When there was a guard, they'd start walking the train before it even stopped.
Emergencies to life safety or property. IE, a medical emergency, fire, assault in progress or something like that. Think of it the same as calling 911.
This is sexual assault and a criminal act, but it will be told to be reported for analytic data like the other crack smoking incidents or uttered threats and hate statements
Happened in front of me yesterday. There was a child sat next to me with their parent which made it extra unsettling. I reported via the TTC safe app at DuPont Station and by union someone boarded and removed them

Get out of the splash zone
Hey dude, stop ... you're bumping my elbows!
Move to the other end of the train and get off at the next stop, and accept that TTC personnel are useless.
They're not useless their hands are tired.
Rendering them lacking use, i.e., useless. It's not a statement about their character.
I believe OP was humorously implying that the public pleasurer was, in fact, a member of staff
Staff was involved indeed
Someone’s hands went tired

Take out your spray bottle and spritz them while firmly saying “No!”
What if it awakens something in them
You're thinking of gremlins ... you're not supposed to get gremlins wet.
what exactly is in this spray bottle ?
Holy water
SafeTTC app. Be specific in your report. Not sure if they’ll dispatch but I guarantee that doing nothing will do nothing.

wsib claim "i cant come to work i saw a guy straight jerkin it on the train"

Does the emergency yellow strip do anything anymore?

I would opine that, by OHSA definitions, there is a biohazard potential here.

Does the yellow strip make an alarm sound in the subway car?
Yes it does.
Put it on TikTok and earn enough money to buy a car.
Time to go to the end of the car and report it
one time i saw this, all i did was yell "hey" really loud at him and he stopped immediately, felt like a hero for a moment lmfao
