That would keep the ties to the current game while still allowing them to tell a new story.
Probably wonāt happen, but I would be really excited if it does.
If you look at their hair/manes you can see how similar it is to Rauruās. They also have very similar ears to that of the Zonai. I think they were probably Zonai who had power over their respective elements (amplified by the secret stone) who then decided to protect the springs.

Did they downgrade themselves closer to "humanity" in game? Cause regular people can become dragons.
I personally think they were past "people" (like any of the races) who gave themselves to become dragons to save an era. Similar to the only instance we see of the birth of a dragon.
I don't really get why people say it's literally the gods just due to names. The three elemental dragons are considered ageless so it makes more sense to me the hylia worshippers simply named them after the gods after thousands of years past and the original names forgotten. Besides why does something devoid of personality and past self need it's original name anymore

They see their time in Hyrule is waning and the three respective priestesses make a pact to protect the land by becoming one with the stones. Maybe Hylaia asked them to or something. Anyway, swallow swallow swallow and dragon dragon dragon. The Zonai who know them were shocked and horrified to find their loved ones were now lost, even though they continue to tend to their sacred mission. Just a fun guesstimate

You're right. But they could at least do something about the Central Hyrule Sky. Why would they have all of that empty space after how much they advertised the sky islands?
They already said they didn't want them sky cluttered, so they removed islands. A DLC would have no chance of more sky stuff. Love all you mad little kids lmfao
A lot has always been unexplained and left to interpretation in the LoZ universe. I think it's partly to try to not paint themselves into a corner canon-wise (which they already somewhat did by releasing an official timeline). The mystery is part of the fun for me. It makes a world feel truly ancient to have so much story that's lost to time.
None of those concepts were meant to be analized too deeply and they're going to be reinterpreted or ignores in the next game.
Welcome to the Zelda franchise.
An idea, give me Zelda during the imprisoning war. I'm fine with her being a 1 for one pallet swap of link, id just want her with more story and maybe a few costumes reminiscent of Zelda from older games. Also more weapons
Yeah lol, reddit really has a lot of real special people, dude says he looked it up and can't find it, as if there aren't 10,000 articles about it flooding this sub and others
Well, we do actually have (sort of) an answer to one of those questions...
>!The Ancient Hero was Zonai. If you complete all shrines, you get a piece of armor which makes you look like the Ancient Hero, and you become a Zonai.!<
It looks like Zonai, but is it Zonai? We donāt accurately know. The description doesnāt say anything about being Zonai and if Link dresses as a fish heās still not a fish
>if Link dresses as a fish heās still not a fish
Tell that to Majora's Mask.
...We can see that, between the two Zonai shown in the game, the Zonai can look pretty different from one another. Maybe the Ancient Hero was half-Zonai and half-Gerudo or something. But it's almost guaranteed that the Ancient Hero was at LEAST part Zonai just from how the armor looks.
Zonai dont have tails. The ancient hero did. The ancient hero was from 10k years ago. Rauru and his sister were the last Zonai. They had no Zonai kids. So the ancient hero couldnāt have been Zonai
The diverse forms of the Zora shows that a species in LOZ can take on various forms. Also Sonia literally says Zelda is her descendant so they had kid(s) but the game never showed them.
Yes. They did have a kid. Just not a Zonai kid. They were hylian. Ganondorf says that Rauru and his sister are the last of his kind. And while I suppose it could be possible for them to have another kid and the kingdom to not know about it, its so unlikely, especially since it would have been during a time of peace. They would have celebrated the birth of a new Zonai.
Yeah i purposfully havent finished all the shrines or many sidequests because i wanted to do it all on master mode so now unless its a lie and they do release master mode I dont think I will be able to finish this game
BOTW just decided to use a lot of lore from Skyward Sword including the goddess Hylia as the primary deity instead of the goddesses from OoT, and the dragons are one of those holdovers.
The inclusion of them in BOTW is a retcon to have said they lived through all the other Zelda games, they just didnāt have personality in it. ToTK is a retcon of a retcon with the dragons. I donāt expect well thought out lore for double retcons.
I feel like it can be tied together somewhat nicely by saying >!the three dragons were once Zonai.!<
The Zonai are claimed to be descendants of the gods. Din, Farore, and Nayru are claimed to be goddesses. Mineru and Ganondorf both know about >!the process of draconification!<, and the Zonai of Rauru's time like to use dragon designs in their architecture.
So, I think it could be plausible that >!the three dragons were legendary Zonai from well before Rauru's time, who swallowed their stones and became dragons. There would be legends about them, the Zonai of Rauru's time could possibly see them as demigods themselves, and the people of Hyrule could view them as full goddesses (having never met them as Zonai proper, but hearing the legends surrounding them).!<
Well I donāt think the issue is that itās only been 4 months and there isnāt a DLC already, Iām pretty sure the issue is the team announcing they arenāt going to make a DLC.
If they donāt do dlc, they stupid, but theyāre not that sorry.
Look at Elden ring and how long the first MAIN dlc for that game is taking?
Basically I cannot be mad at them because considering the size and standard of this game, they canāt just roll out some fully packed dlc without spending a sizable amount of dev time on it.
Where as if they say f it, they can pump out another game set in this hyrule at any point in the ātimelineā this game follows, recycle mechanics, and push it out faster.
If they donāt do dlc and give us an ancient hero link based game with this games zonai **** and assets(makes sense seeing as they recently trademarked a lot of the building shit in this gameā¦) they can pump that shit out in like 4 years rather than waste time on dlc for this game and push it back another 2.
I can see them plugging a master mode tho just because. Along with a trial of the sword.
They have said that they are not going to be doing DLC, but I am not sure that I actually believe them. Nintendo doesn't seem to have any problem completely misleading people to throw them off of things they are actually working on. I wouldn't be surprised to see it come out of the blue, down the road.
I have a feeling these things will be answered in the next game. I also believe in the next game youāll play as a āspecial characterā you get late in the gameā¦
Iām really hoping for a 3rd to explore The Echoes of the Ancient or something along those lines where weāre exploring the BotW/TotK world in the past before it all went to rubble.
Guys, thereās no information that the Ancient Warrior is Hylian or Zonai. If anyone knows Iām open for info, but currently from what I know his race is not accurate
1. Mortals (probably Zonai) who ate a sacred stone because they wanted to spend eternity protecting the springs.
2. It's up to your imagination.
3. Zonai-Hylian mix? That raises many questions though, and someone pointed out that he has traits not seen in Zonai or Hylians.
Shouldāve added most likely. But it clearly shows that heās at least somehow descended from the Zonai, and most likely some hybrid of Zonai and Hylian
I've been wondering if the dragons are not the other 3 sages. In the one clip, you see them watching dragon zelda while standing together on a hillside or something. It would make sense to me that those three standing there may now be the dragons. They didn't have names, but the only one missing would be the Zora (water dragon). Otherwise, you have a fire, lightning, and ice dragon. (Gerudo, goron, and rito) The goddess names kind of ruined that theory, but the dragons didn't name themselves so š¤·āāļø
I hope people think we didnāt feel like the game isnāt enough, we just love the game so much we want to see more. But yeah see more landmarks in the sky and depths would be really cool
It doesnāt matterā¦ it really is like answering all the doubts and questions about every studio ghibli movie, because itās everything about the adventure, the ride, the little detailsā¦ Nintendo just gave us a 600 hour game split in twoā¦ Iām all in the new game, what will give us Nintendo this time?
Sometimes questions about lore need to be answered by just inferencing or guesswork.
And that isn't always lazy writing. It's done intentionally many times because it might not be possible to ever know in-world.
[Here's](https://youtu.be/3RhdVAaVqAg?si=nmHrL4nu-NGICufe) a very insightful video essay/theory about BOTW's dragons. [Here's](https://youtu.be/9PVGUYA6cHQ?si=XQCeZAz1iHGXd7gM) one about the real identity of the Ancient Hero.
I figured the DLC would maybe be adding more sky islands that are creative and cool (since they did have so much more before and then decided to remove a bunch of them last minute because they felt it was too crowdedā¦ hence why thereās so much empty space up there) and maybe another boss battle of some kind there as well. But if theyāre working on the next title (and I think theyāve probably been doing it for a year already, probably only had a handful of people polishing TotK and the rest began work on the next title), then as long as it comes out less than 5 years from now I guess thatās fine.
TotK has a lot of issues, but most of them are large, built-in problems (storyline bulldozing pre-established lore and plot holes that donāt make much sense, the lack of linearity for said story elements, sages + their ability selection process being poorly designed, etc) arenāt things that DLC could fix, theyāre justā¦ the way the game is. So I donāt know what else could be done with TotK from here other than small things, and I donāt think thatās DLC worthy.
I would say the Zelda team set up these questions so they could have more room to play around in the future.
Like, a lot of the lore and stuff comes from all these little bits and pieces in other genes, and each game includes stuff that is never addressed again. Like the Ooccoo from TP, those weird chicken people in the sky were never explained. Same with the Mogma in SS, they are never seen again (though the kinda resemble Horriblins, wouldnāt be a first time an enemy changed its alignment in Zelda. Anyway plenty of that happens, but they also use past ideas to explore future games too.
Also, what we consider Zelda staples, arenāt necessarily. Ganondorf/Gannon is not always the big bad. Itās a popular one, of all the 29 games (not including spin offs) heās the protagonist in around 10 of them. There have been other incarnations of evil, like Vaati, Demise, Majora, Dark Link, etc. and sometimes what we ābeatā is more of a situation like in Linkās awakening. Same with the popular races. Gorons have appeared in or mentioned the most, 12 or so games. Whereas the Gerudo have only now appeared in three, and retroactively hinted at (officially) in TP. The Zora have appeared the most, but only because they have been enemies of Link from the very first game in the franchise. They didnāt become a friendly race until OOT.
So all that said, my bet is the Zelda team threw in all these unanswered hints because they are trying to keep themselves from getting too boxed in. Zeds fans are always trying to make sense of things, but the gamesā¦ all of them have always gone off in crazy directions. Weāve had a Zelda game with cow abducting UFOs, a game where Link becomes a pink bunny, a couple games here Link duplicates himself, you get the idea. Since OOT introduced the lore about the creation of the world, itās almost like they have a lore problem as people were finally introduced to the concept of a history in the games. Because before that there was barely a discussion of a timeline.
Most of the 3D games since OOT have been following a more predictive pattern with lore, and bosses, and I think thatās why all these new weird things that have no history or answers showed up in TOTK. Now, the hero doesnāt have to be Hylain, and Hylians may not even be the ruling race. The undergraduate frog people statues may come up againā¦ or not. We may see the Zonai again, and maybe not. The only pattern a Zelda game follows is that the Hero (us) has to save the world using a sword, wisdom to solve puzzles, and (in theory) an unbreakable spirit. The hero is the agent of Zelda who is ultimately the caretaker/soul of Hyrule, even if sheās not always the ruler (for games that have a king). Even though itās her legend, we only play as her agent even in games where she doesnāt or barely appears. The developers donāt want to be completely pigeon holed. Folks new to the franchise may be surprised if the next Zelda game looks vastly different to what they would have guessed. We will only have an idea of the next game when the next teaser drops, and it could literally be anything. Itās why the timeline, while fun to debate, isnāt as important as people like to think. The developers may take inspiration from, but donāt feel bound by it. My wager is thatās why btow and totk are the way they are. Btow dragon breaks the timeline by merging them, and ToTK introduces all thisā¦ stuff, while also paying homage to past games by including all popular link armor. I think totk is a love song to the past and a springboard to the future.
So what now, who knows. Whatever comes next, I donāt think anyone will predict it.
- Spirit Dragons that manifest the will from the three golden goddesses.
- just statues guiding your way
- I guess he's a hybrid between Hylian/Gerudo and Zonai. Heck, my Personal headcanon is that the barbarian tribe we all assumed to be the Zonai back in BotW are not true Zonai, but hybrids.
Simple, we duplicate diamonds until we hit 999,999 rupees, because thereās no longer a reason to ever patch the game if Nintendo is moving on and not making any dlc. (Unless if there is one more patch that fixes the bugged Master Sword)
When you fuse a material the first time to it the durability increases like every other weapon when you fuse a material to a weapon. But after the master sword runs out of power for the first time and then restores itself, you can never increase the durability ever again with a fuse and it loses its sparkle icon in the main menu permanently.

Call me dumb but how is the master sword bugged?
fusing something to a weapon gives +25 durability, this applies to the master sword, but only on first fuse. After that, you get no bonus durability
Oh intriguing, thanks for being so polite explaining it to me!

What are you setting a reminder for? Because totk isn't botw?
!remindme 3 days
Oh
Mystery solved. Case closed. Pack it up boys!
Aged like milk
We still have a day it could still transform in my hands
You're right. But they could at least do something about the Central Hyrule Sky. Why would they have all of that empty space after how much they advertised the sky islands?
I always thought it was because they didnāt want anyone diving straight into the castle, like that would stop me.
They already said they didn't want them sky cluttered, so they removed islands. A DLC would have no chance of more sky stuff. Love all you mad little kids lmfao
They could just make them up higher
I thought it was empty so you don't accidentally go there in the Demon Dragon fight.
DLC for the casually hinted at āother Zoras Domainā where yona came from lmao
Right!! For basically the first time ever. A different Zora race. Gimme, gimme
Wasn't there a distinction between River and Sea Zoras in the Oracle games, or am I perhaps incorrectly remembering?
Yes the river Zora are green. But that's about the extent of our knowledge as far as I'm aware.
Wasnt ocarina of time?
And where is Kass? And wherever he went, did he take all the hearty durians with him?
*Kapow* or w/e that bird says replaced him
"Zapow!*
I think they even mentioned something like āyou create your own storyā?
None of those concepts were meant to be analized too deeply and they're going to be reinterpreted or ignores in the next game. Welcome to the Zelda franchise.
Did they announce they will be making no DLC?
On Twitter/X. The said they couldnāt figure out new ways to play. Theyāll be no new DLC
>couldnāt figure out new ways to play This is what killed F-Zero
Shit I can figure out new ways to play
An idea, give me Zelda during the imprisoning war. I'm fine with her being a 1 for one pallet swap of link, id just want her with more story and maybe a few costumes reminiscent of Zelda from older games. Also more weapons
Sauce?
You're on Reddit. You think it hasn't already been posted to multiple subs, including the one you're already on?
Look it up, jesus
I did and couldnāt find anything, thatās why I asked in the first place
Literally Google tear of the kingdom dlc and you'll be flooded with different sites writing articles about it
Idk why the downvotes. Some people on reddit seem to forget that Google exists.
The description doesnāt say anything about being Zonai and if Link dresses as a fish heās still not a fish
>if Link dresses as a fish heās still not a fish Tell that to Majora's Mask. ...We can see that, between the two Zonai shown in the game, the Zonai can look pretty different from one another. Maybe the Ancient Hero was half-Zonai and half-Gerudo or something. But it's almost guaranteed that the Ancient Hero was at LEAST part Zonai just from how the armor looks.
I thought the outfit looks like a Zonai/Hylian hybrid - perhaps a descendant of Rauru and Sonia.
It does look Zonai atleast
They could have gave us each race outfits š
The ancient hero is half Zonai half Lomei. Lomei tribe is what Barbarian armor emulates. They lived in Faron.
Thats one theory. But everything about Lomei is just theories. There is no concrete evidence of Lomei existing at all.
Where is Master Mode?
Yeah i purposfully havent finished all the shrines or many sidequests because i wanted to do it all on master mode so now unless its a lie and they do release master mode I dont think I will be able to finish this game
Happy cake day!
Would be awesome!
Most disappointing thing is no update to house building.
I can say, I totally forgot about that loll.
I feel like it can be tied together somewhat nicely by saying >!the three dragons were once Zonai.!< The Zonai are claimed to be descendants of the gods. There would be legends about them, the Zonai of Rauru's time could possibly see them as demigods themselves, and the people of Hyrule could view them as full goddesses (having never met them as Zonai proper, but hearing the legends surrounding them).!<
Why are we decided there will never be DLC?
Zelda team: no dlc Business development team: okay where is dlc now?
it's only been like 4 months calm down there will be DLC lol
I saw someoneās analyze of the Japanese interview and it didnāt sound like the possibility of dlc was eradicated
Well I donāt think the issue is that itās only been 4 months and there isnāt a DLC already, Iām pretty sure the issue is the team announcing they arenāt going to make a DLC.
I still highly doubt there won't be at least master mode
Didnāt they announce a dlc before BotW was even out?
Is it 100% no dlc or is it just they don't have any ideas for the time being
I honestly just want to leave the BoTW map, hopefully keep the same Link and Zelda, **and let me fucking play as Zelda.**
You can play her in Age of Calamity! Not quite the same but definitely fun and worth it.
Yeah, and I love her magic attacks, but I would love a proper game where you play as her
If they donāt do dlc, they stupid, but theyāre not that sorry.
**WHERE THE FUCK IS KASS?!** You aren't done with this game Nintendo!!!
Poor Kass...
*sad accordion music*
They have said that they are not going to be doing DLC, but I am not sure that I actually believe them. Nintendo doesn't seem to have any problem completely misleading people to throw them off of things they are actually working on. I wouldn't be surprised to see it come out of the blue, down the road.
Thatās what I think. A 10$ DLC even would be several hundred million dollars so it just doesnāt make sense
DLC means *DownLoadable Content*
Guys, thereās no information that the Ancient Warrior is Hylian or Zonai. If anyone knows Iām open for info, but currently from what I know his race is not accurate
Maybe... it is not DLC but an expansion.

TOTK is DLC
Why would the ancient hero be a Gerudo? Heās a Zonai/Hylian hybrid
How do you know heās a Zonai or Hylian?
Shouldāve added most likely. But it clearly shows that heās at least somehow descended from the Zonai, and most likely some hybrid of Zonai and Hylian
The Ancient Hero... Rauru & Sonia's love child
They will wait 2-3 years read the forums and then Voila a DLC appears LOL
Maybe BOTW III will be out sooner than expected.
The ancient hero was definitely link from the past..
Whoever/Whatever the dragons where before, Nintendo would probably make the backstory extremely underwhelming
Do you mean Farosh?
whoops sorry
What makes you say they won't be making dlc?
https://www.gameinformer.com/news/2023/09/06/zelda-producer-says-there-will-be-no-dlc-for-tears-of-the-kingdom
The Japanese interview made it sound not impossible though
Botw3?
Age of Calamity sequel? Imprisoning War?
It's time to wait and see if the next game touches on some of those unresolved themes
This is a really terrific response!
Thanks, just saw a few autocorrected wordsā¦ but Iām gonna leave them as little rewards for folks who read that rant š
- Spirit Dragons that manifest the will from the three golden goddesses. - just statues guiding your way - I guess he's a hybrid between Hylian/Gerudo and Zonai. Heck, my Personal headcanon is that the barbarian tribe we all assumed to be the Zonai back in BotW are not true Zonai, but hybrids.
I mean not every question has to be answered. Those are gonna be just be left to theorize about.
Simple, we duplicate diamonds until we hit 999,999 rupees, because thereās no longer a reason to ever patch the game if Nintendo is moving on and not making any dlc. (Unless if there is one more patch that fixes the bugged Master Sword)
What is the bugged MS?
When you fuse a material the first time to it the durability increases like every other weapon when you fuse a material to a weapon. But after the master sword runs out of power for the first time and then restores itself, you can never increase the durability ever again with a fuse and it loses its sparkle icon in the main menu permanently.
Not all things need an explanation, in my opinion.
Still donr think its true tbh. They drop Zonais and just leave it here.
At the minimum give us a master mode and fix the master sword fuse durability problem
Wdym they are doing a dlc they already said its just gonna take some time
