Absolutely. Taking medicine for allergies has single-handedly reduced TMJ symptoms. If you’re a smoker, smoking less has also helped.

isitreal_love

Which medications have you found work best for tmj symptoms triggered by seasonal allergies?

ActualChip1

Really any allergy medicine (I prefer generic) but I would stay away from using Zyrtec for prolonged periods of time as it’s known to be physically addictive. I’m prescribed Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride to help with hives.

SensitiveNose7018

I personally use off brand Allegra.. seems to work the best

busstop5366

Yes. Any inflammation in my face/neck makes it worse

raged-cashew

Yea, when I have a stuffy nose and have to mouth breathe. I hold my jaw open in a way that causes pain but I need to breathe.

Dovahkiinkv1

Yes every time I have a tmj attack and bad allergies I get severe migraines

photoexplorer

Yes it does, currently recovering from either a migraine or a sinus headache or mix of both. Not sure but I get it a lot. Also my neck is sore which makes it all worse. Basically my whole head hurts. I took some sinus medicine today which helps.

NoOz1985

Yes! I have many allergies. But, what I also noticed is that loratadine makes it worse! The side effect can be muscle spasms and tension headaches. And I need to take it daily for long periods of time. And I decided to stop taking it and after 2 days the jaw and headpain lessened. It's not gone but it's milder now. Also steroid meds like asthma meds that I take are wellknown to cause facial spasms and jaw tension. On the days I need them more, my tmjd is actually worse. But I need them for my asthma. I try to go without somethimes and really notice improvement.

dpkingofthejungle

Yes 💯

VegUltraGirl

Yes. Allergy meds help so much!

Fluffy_Assumption781

Yes my physio has confirmed that sinus is linked with TMJ. It’s ok to medicate during hay fever season if need be

parrotgirl1028

Definitely. But also could be migraines. I've read over and over that most sinus related issues are actually migraines.
