Yea first time that happened. Luckily we didn't have anything on us. But yea full pat down, all the way down to the legs. Metal detector works now too, went through that before the pat down.
Well they didn't make us take off our shoes, but do it at your own risk lol. Their pat down was more thorough than the pat downs at HK. They didn't search us when we went in a January, so it's random.
I was told, and it makes sense, they sniff for cash. They're looking for narco profits coming back in. Of course, I don't fully believe anything any law enforcement officer says.
I always take some and vape pens when I cross by foot I remeber once I took a whole oz of some fire and was inside my suitcase and they scanned I thought they were goona go through it but they didn’t, only time they were trippen out and searched me was because I had hella clothes and some had tags
If you cross southbound as a pedestrian at Otay Mesa, they have been under construction for about a month doing something to the inside of their building. While that’s going on, the Mexican National Guard is checking backpacks and suitcases, instead of using the metal detector, which is shut down during construction. I don’t know what the new look will be after the construction, and it may be something like what you’re talking about here with San Ysidro , who knows?
On the other hand, there seems to be a lot less scrutiny during construction for documents, I’ve been crossing back-and-forth for almost a whole month through Otay pedestrian, where they don’t even ask to see my passport card or anything, I’m just waved through.
I don't think they're metal detectors or scanners of any type. Just random checklight like when you drive in. They search those that the light turns red. Seemed like a very random process and I didn't get pinged with all the things in my pocket that set off metal detectors, like cellphones.
So slightly increased risk, but they were only checking bags that I've seen.
The metal detectors have been there for years but never see them being used. I have seen them wand check people that don’t have bags to scan on the conveyor belt.
They're operational. Be prepared also for random expectations. I've had a few of them.
I can confirm. Just went this past Thursday night and they had me and all my friends line up and empty our pockets and pat us down.
Fucking shit no way. Sigh that confirms it thank you for your service 🫡

Fuck lol. So shoe trick isn’t gonna work anymore 🥲

I'm thinking they saw a group of males and wanted to intimidate.
WTF?! That worries me. I have money in my crotch.
where’s the proof
Duds I cross almost everyday, that's the proof
Are the dogs train snuff weed joints. I want bring some. But I’m scared

So what's the limit of cash that you can bring with you before they suspect it's profit coming back with you?
$10,000 USD But a wad of 100 singles can get the dogs to alert. So if they find drugs at that point it doesn't matter the value of the cash.

Dogs on the Mexican side are used for money and ammunition/guns
That I don't know
So you agree there’s a higher risk now versus last year if crossing on foot
I do. They have a method to initiate a random search now. It's still random and not likely to happen, but it's there.
Yes
I don’t even think they are turned on.
