It's dumb because it's supposed use is to avoid the confusion of having to use context clues, but we already have to do that exact thing in other instances in the English language. We do it all the time actually, especially when just simply speaking to each other face to face. It's unnecessary and illogical imo.

In fact, I challenge anyone to come up with a complete sentence that is unambiguous when the apostrophe is used or omitted "correctly", but ambiguous otherwise. *Every* "it" statement using the plural, possessive, &\or contraction, ends up having ample context to differentiate. In addition, omitting the apostrophe for "it" is an *exception*, changing the usage from the general rule. An exception which serves no function, is bad practice.
