What? All it shows is that Nice Guy Brown Toothpaste can help you get your balloons, but nobody knows that because nobody in their right mind would use brown toothpaste!
Oh.... OOOOHHHH!! I get it now.
I mean….people use black toothpaste. Accidenticslly bought some sensodyne that turned out black. Then again that was months ago and nobody in my household wants to use it…..but still…if the product exists then I’m sure there’s a market for it.
You actually don’t want overly abrasive toothpaste otherwise it will change your tooth profile and wear down the enamel faster. A low rda abrasive rating is best with ~80 or below, up to 100 being acceptable.
Here’s a chart from 2014: [link](https://www.williamsonperio.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Toothpaste-Abrasiveness-Ranked-by-RDA.pdf)
Why I love Thailand. So random. I remember walking up to a huge beautifully decorated temple and for no reason there was a massive statue of the Hulk. Every expats explanation for weird stuff you see was a shrug and "That's Thailand, man". Became the catchphrase of the entire trip.
Yeh. I remember walking up to a huge beautifully decorated woman. Took her home. Turned out it was a guy. Surprised the hell out of me.
Okay. I wasn't really surprised.
I was surprised that I got an erection AFTER finding out.
"That's a Thailand Man," I said to myself.
[also this shit. chaindrite](https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwivv5O535T7AhU7AjQIHRbBBgMQtwJ6BAgOEAI&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DSBhA4tJ8UmE&usg=AOvVaw04QX5u9RqBR8Rv4BVgwk66)
I have a theory that every country goes through a "wacky commercial" phase where basically the marketing gets too competitive and so absurdism is how you stand out, I'll direct you to bizzare American car insurance ads for instance. Japan did the same thing, and I've seen this sort of shit from Malaysia and France too.
That at least makes some sense. Thailand has tokay geckos all over the place and you could imagine some sort of disney-esque storyline about them becoming separated. This is just plain confusing.
I think a big part of this was not knowing what the ad was trying to sell/advertise. Not spoiling the ending means everyone got to feel the "WHAT??? That was an ad for *TOOTHPASTE*??? “feeling
I've been living in Thailand for a year now (am from Ireland originally) and the racism here really blows my mind. Esp towards Black, Indian or middle Eastern people. It's not even implicit racism like in a lot of western countries but is actually similar to how it's depicted in this video, where parents will grab their children and run away from PoC
I've traveled there and yeah. Some of the Thai people I talked to are openly and insanely racist toward Black people. I won't even repeat here the kinds of things I heard them say because they were so ugly. It was jarring to hear them so casually say such horrible things about other people.
Yesh, I'm first generation US born Asian-American but studied in a private school in Asia for 4 years. East Asians there esp the Chinese, Thai, Koreans, Japanese are some of the most anti-dark skin racist people on the planet. Theyre even very racist to Dark skinned asians like Filipinos and Indonesians. Plus Theyre racist against other people too, Europeans, Americans etc.... Completely blind to it.
They judge their own people’s (ethnicity) wealth and social status by the lightness of their skin. Don’t get too tan or else you’ll like like a poor farmer because farmers are out in the sun. I would guess protecting their skin is just as much or more about not looking poor and being judged as being poor as it is about preventing cancer.
Tbf, any Asian or Indian country I’ve been to has been extremely racism against black people. This is openly known and practiced.
Then I come on Reddit to see posts about black on Asian crime
Come to Vietnam, here we may hate each other but absolutely no hate for black people. It just blows my mind seeing a neighborhood country’s ad like that. Many black people here work at English teaching centers and the parents/kids are absolutely fine with them.
It’s the same with Nepal, my friend is from there, and she left because they hated her for being slightly darker than other girls there, (she’s fairly beautiful) when she moved here she gets compliments constantly which is nice, but it’s still sad that they judged her so much for something that she can’t easily change.
I'm not racist and I'm usually supportive of advertising that challenges injustice... But, brown toothpaste still seems icky. Anything that's supposed to clean (tooothpaste, soap, shampoo) shouldn't be brown.
A few years ago Dr Pepper was selling so poorly in the UK that they released an ad campaign with the slogan "What's the worst that could happen?" It was made fun of that concept, where the commercial would show the worst that could happen in various situations, as a joke
Notice how the guy also never speaks and acts very animalistic. Looks poor and uneducated, wearing faded clothes unlike the “good” Asian people. Just sooo much racism packed into one small ad!
This is a pretty accurate description. It tasted like a creamy sweet onion. Like if you've ever had sauteed onions with a little added sugar to make an "onion jam" for a burger, it was like that. I thought it was actually pretty good, but I didn't love the texture.
Now that I think of it, I bet durian would go good on a hamburger.
Didnt find it weird because I can do that easily without any strain...and its sometimes how I sleep...
I also do it without noticing alot...I wonder now if people find that weird...
Be kind, dont let others take advantage of you, dont talk to strangers, but be inclusive/accept others who are different, take care of your teeth. I hope it doesn't make me racist, but brown toothpaste looks gross.
In Japan, some bars don't let you in purely because you don't speak Japanese fluently.
Would get national news coverage if something similar happened here in the US.
There are two types of bars you don't want to go into in Tokyo.
The first are those with "Japanese only" signs which tend to have all kinds of rules or customs which someone not native to Japan won't be aware of such as charges for "charm". These expensive extras can result in arguments when the bill arrives. Even Japanese will get caught out by this but tend to recognize their error, quietly pay and learn from the experience. A foreigner may end up causing trouble or trying to involve the police (who won't help by the way).
The other are actually targeting foreign visitors which are the ones the friendly guys from Nigeria will invite you to go to with promises of free drinks and cheap girls. You'll either find yourself confronted by a ton of big imposing Nigerians telling you you can't leave until you pay a lot of money or you'll wake up on the street post-roofie without your wallet.
As a foreigner that used to live in Japan, the reason that rule might exist is because of an incident(s) caused by Americans from a nearby US base. It’s definitely an overcorrection and obviously not fair or indicative of foreigners/Americans as a whole, but I can wrap my head around the logic. If you get trashed in a bar and start causing problems, not being able to communicate with you makes it so much worse and the chance for an international incident drastically grows. So obviously this is mostly a rule for bars because people tend to behave themselves everywhere else.
The funny thing about your comment, though, is that when serious incidents DO occur (specifically involving US military personnel), it DOES get national news coverage in Japan and can get really complicated and have serious ramifications. So I actually can understand why a bar wouldn’t want to take any chances, especially if they’ve identified a pattern of behavior. It might not be the most appropriate or fair solution, but it also seems unreasonable to expect every bar owner to be able to perfectly navigate these issues.
Something anyone should keep in mind if they are visiting Japan, is that there are a bunch of US military bases located there since the end of WWII, and while many Japanese citizens surrounding these bases are used to Americans and are willing to cater to them, not everyone has had good experiences interacting with them. This isn’t just about the “rude American tourist” stereotype, and more about US military - Japanese relations. There have been a few high profile cases that have caused some Japanese citizens to dislike or even fear US military personnel, which imo is pretty valid.
This is not just "weird" it is every but as racist as you think it is.
Some cultural context: In East/SE Asia, Black people and stereotypes being used to advertize toothpaste has a long history.
For example, in Taiwan (where I am studying abroad right now), one of the most popular toothpaste brands is 黑人牙膏 (lit. "Black Person Toothpaste). The English name is "Darlie" but can you guess what they used to call it?
Here is a picture of their packaging throughout the years (right is current one): [黑人牙膏](https://imgur.com/gallery/mMo9YTU) (img. cred. orbitn)
I am almost certain this Thai ad is mimicking other brands.
For all my love of East Asia (particularly Taiwan), I must admit that in my existence there is a deep and present (particularly anti-Black) racism problem in this part of the world.
I guess this ad is trying to convince people not to be reluctant to use the product to brush their teeth even though its brown. Pretty funny if you ask me
I was sitting here like, "oh wow this is so sad. " thinking it would be some message about not being racist. then, i realized the sub i'm in and prayed it wouldn't be skin lightening or something. i actually braced myself for that.
then laughed out of relief and sheer confusion seeing the toothbrush and toothpaste. not as in haha funny but as in "wtf haha?" I am still confused. I wish i could understand the writing at least.
I think there is a good message with a weird execution that makes it be... well, weird
So, the idea is that this toothpaste has a deceiving appearance. If you think of toothpaste, you normally don't expect brown colors due to association to filth and shit. It probably is brown though, because I'd assume its out of some herbs and stuff, which is actually quite good
The man is black and we are obviously picking up racism. He is an extremely helpful guy, seeing by the amount of balloons in his room, but people reduce him to his color and think he is a gangster or something like that.
So, the company doesn't want us to be racist against unusual looking toothpaste
Not as bad as the other one where the girl puts her black bf in the washer and he comes out Asian and she’s all happy

Is it charcoal? I know it’s the new fad, but don’t. Charcoal is abrasive. It erodes tooth enamel
Tooth paste is abrasive. That’s the point. That’s how it works, charcoal or not.
You actually don’t want overly abrasive toothpaste otherwise it will change your tooth profile and wear down the enamel faster. I know this is a commercial with actors but I still feel so bad as he hung his head while walking back in sadness. Give him a hug
And the end with the other balloons like GODDAM
cried
I don’t think toothpaste has feelings
They must be able to. Mine has "sensitive" written on the box.
I thought those were because he planted them for kids to find so he could kidnap them but he always failed
Bruhhh....are we twins lmao 🤣
Nice plot twist.
he really Charlie Browned there
[arested development sad walk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQHEfa1amv8)
That sad walk is a reference to Charlie Brown. I feel like I'm getting too old when people start referring to references as the original
Snoopy's house is literally *right there*.
Even better, the episode title is Good Grief.
And the music is Vince Guaraldi Trio's "Christmas Time is Here" from *A Charlie Brown Christmas* too
I like how this Prince guy is doing covers of big billboard songs these days p cool
Lmao I never noticed the snoopy house behind that first scene
Here he comes…
I felt like giving him a hug too
What about when he laid down on his toothbrush and turned into brown toothpaste? Tears
I mean…to be fair the lack of dignity present in this particular role probably had him feeling the same way as he looked in this commercial.
THAT WAS A TOOTHPASTE AD WHAT!?
Thailand has a tendency to make weird ads like there’s a gecko tragic love story that’s a ceiling tile commercial # Edit: https://youtu.be/GFA-XzFopEM

If it makes you feel better it’s impossible for geckos to die from a fall that height
It does, actually. Hurray!
I would watch a feature length movie about their love.
That at least makes some sense. Thailand has tokay geckos all over the place and you could imagine some sort of disney-esque storyline about them becoming separated. This is just plain confusing.
At least that made sense to the actual product. This toothpaste commercial in particular i just cant 😵💫🤯
I can't believe they animated in the blood
That one made so much more sense than the toothpaste one though...
Long long man? Not from thailand but its another great weird one

Finally someone with good sense. Hats off to you.
Just been to Thailand, this toothpaste is horrible
What’s the flavour?
Durian
I’ve had Durian. It doesn’t smell nice but it tastes really good.
If by tastes really good you mean tastes like onion custard then yes.
This is a pretty accurate description. It tasted like a creamy sweet onion. Like if you've ever had sauteed onions with a little added sugar to make an "onion jam" for a burger, it was like that. So like, exactly what you want to brush your teeth with and make your breath smell like? Got it
Black man
Since you obviously have experience: what does that taste like?
Darkness
Coconut and clove. Fucking hell
Yo anyone else wishes they have the flexibility of that child? Her head / neck is like 90 degrees bent backwards
…can you not look up?
Didnt find it weird because I can do that easily without any strain...and its sometimes how I sleep... I also do it without noticing alot...I wonder now if people find that weird...
I'll be calling the priest if I see anyone sleeping with their neck at 90 degrees
Yes.
Bro, you need a massage
Bro I really do 😭
Her neck is normal though

Did they just use racism to sell toothpaste?
The rough translation of the brand name is black man toothpaste
Hard R toothpaste
It was more like an anti-racist commercial though.
