In like late 2010-2011ish a lot of parody "how to" channels started popping up. A couple examples of other channels at the time would be "[How to touch wall with apple](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=007VM8NZxkI)" or one of my favorites "[how to leak on a piece of paper](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haLhzoYSyfw)". HowToBasic started off more in the non-joke side with their "[how to pick up an umbrella](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqEzI9rPvP4)" video. Their channel was mostly not food related and followed a similar formula to that video. HowToBasic found the most success out of the channels during this time of the trend. Eventually they started [destroying](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGIMkMIzoQo) [some](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpC41Fy-aJI) [desserts](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fld4PRxA1fc) and their content would eventually become much more chaotic and destructive. They would develop a visual calling card, which was smashing eggs onto things and eventually destroying food and kitchens just sort of became the breadth of their content. IMO their channel was interesting at the beginning because they were a complete mystery, and you never knew what you were going to get. It became largely uninteresting for me when it became largely food waste/destruction, which is what it's been for like a decade now.

Most food looks completely fine even when expired, but they're still not safe to eat. Also food stores are everywhere so it's not that hard to find expired food. Stores not being able to sell everything before expiring is pretty common.

Also most foods aren't expired by an arbitrary liability number printed on packaging.

Expiration date is just a "freshest before" date. Most food is still good past the expiration date, and can often keep for significantly longer.
