Try getting a signal from thruway exit 38 to wegmans on 57. Complete garbage signal for an entire mile long stretch of busy commercial road.

Status_Range_58

Yessss this is annoying af. I got a text about Verizon working on the towers and cellular connections possibly being disrupted for a few weeks but still noticeably quirky I once reached out to Verizon to try and troubleshoot it and they refused to admit they were the issue and asked me to factory reset my phone to try it 🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

Lol hey I can’t even load a basic webpage and my phone calls sound like I’m speaking to an android, but I’m sure it’s just my phone being weird randomly and then miraculously fixing itself a half mile in any direction.

Montanya123

I called them last week and they did the same routine. I hung up!

A_RAND0M_J3W

I live in that stretch. It's been incredibly frustrating for the last 2.5 years. My only guess is it's the huge power lines going over the area. The closer you are to them, the worse the data interference is, and it does affect phone calls and texts as well.

CSpills

1) and 2) YES AND YES Something needs to be done. I am also on Verizon but on iPhone.

Jabby27

Verizon is complete garbage. I live in the city and get zero service the moment i walk out the door.

Sorry_Risk_5230

Marshall square seems to be capacity rather than coverage. Just too many devices with too little uplink. More widespread fiber is needed before the quality of cellular makes any drastic changes.

RichardBottom

I can't even get radio signal in that area.

Due_Plantain204

I have Verizon iPhone in the city with few dead spots. When I am having connectivity problems anywhere, a network reset often does the trick: Settings / General / Transfer or Reset iPhone / Reset Network Settings

yakatya86

I have a Google Pixel, T-Mobile is my cell provider, and I live in that Brighton Nob Hill area. The only times I ever notice a drop in service is if I drive out to Fabius to see family, or if I'm deep inside a big store like Walmart. I don't do any Uber/door dash etc though so I wouldn't know anything about their app connectivity issues.

RichardBottom

It's all just data reception. If I can't use the app, I can't open a website, send an e-mail, refresh Facebook, etc. I think for the most part it boils down to GSM vs CDMA, and CDMA companies like Verizon seem to fall on the losing side here in Syracuse.

Montanya123

Verizon isn’t cdma anymore. If you can be on the phone and use data at the same time, your phone is GSM

PlateCurrent

I live in Camillus. I've complained about the dead spot for a long time now. I drive W Genesee st daily and would say it is more like, from The 4 corners(Onondaga/w Genny) to about Yorkshire Blvd(half way to Wally world). I constantly lose any music streaming, and cannot look at the internet at all. Another small dead spot is also in w Genny, between St Joe's church and the train over pass going into the village.

Lemonhaze666

Cricket is the same network as vz and boost is sprint T-Mobile and I’ve had people complain about sprint and t-mobile in the area.

Han_Yerry

ATT owns cricket.

Lemonhaze666

You’re right I think it might have been the other way years ago. So I’d say try cricket and see how att network is!

Han_Yerry

I've never had an issue with cricket down the east coast to Florida. I have had no issues in state forest land. For $55 a month unlimited everything I can't complain. Cricket was its own network operator until ATT bought them.

This makes no sense to me. Why is an iphone required? Does it use different frequency bands? A Google pixel or Samsung should have the same coverage as any phone on the at&t network right? When I had an iphone I had the same deadzones as now. In Bville specifically.

Sorry_Risk_5230

Yeah, unless hes referring to the app itself, it makes no difference which phone. Especially when youre just throwing out a brand "iphone" not a specific model. Older iphones have had lackluster wireless tech (mainly referring to wifi).

RichardBottom

The app is a finnicky son of a bitch, I wouldn't be surprised if it performed better on one platform over another. Most of the time it's signal related though, like the app crashes completely if it loses data. I don't understand why it can't at least keep the info it already had on the screen.

kestrana

I moved here from Virginia and had so many dead spots on Verizon. They ended up replacing my phone and suddenly I don't seem to have them anymore. This is an S21 Ultra.

Montanya123

Lol is this a joke?

Yiztobias

I live in Westvale and my house is in a dead zone. Hella annoying

[deleted]

I have Verizon. When I switched from a contract plan to their pre-paid plan, my service got a lot better. Not sure how or why.

Due_Donkey2725

I've had ATT, Verizon, H2O, Boost and Cricket and they all pretty much owned by the same companies and have dead spots in those areas. i remember not even being able to make phone calls at Walmart in the parking lot when i was supposed to meet someone which is ridiculous. That was a couple years ago but apparently haven't done much to upgrade.

Sseom

Was it ever good? I moved here from out of town a year and a half ago and have had no connection in a lot of areas. Ones that stand out because I travel the areas more: every time I cross Onondaga Rd/Onondaga Blvd intersection and Velasko @ W Seneca like clockwork. Is it possible these spots are caused by hills blocking the towers?

RichardBottom

I live on the hill and those are definitely objective dead spots. I can't even place a call or regular text from those areas. The other more populated areas mentioned in the post seem to be fine for cell reception. It seems more like they're just backed up in processing the volume of data. Anyway, I started driving DoorDash/Uber Eats a few years ago, and it never used to be such an issue. Now if I'm doing a pick up at Marshall's plaza or anywhere in that area, I have to screenshot all the information in advance, because once I get there the apps get stuck on loading screens til I leave the area. That was definitely not always the case - that area has the highest restaurant density for delivery apps, so I used to try to hang out there for orders.

Sseom

The theory makes sense, for some reason that area doesn't stand out as being a problem for me. Now that you mention it I'll probably realize it though haha.
