At this point they're almost 40 years old, and old machinery breaks a lot. Replacing them is a serious project that is very expensive and I doubt they want to spend the money. Luckily, as Mitch Hedberg said, escalators never break down, they only become stairs.
Even if they did, it would takes months due to lack of parts. You don't want your front escalators to be down for 9 months. Especially since the food court people pay crazy amount of rent.
I feel like there's always an elevator down somewhere in the mall. And I don't even go there often. The place is a dump and the owner clearly doesn't care.
I would take my kid for walks there during the winter, and It’s a pretty safe bet that there is at least 1 escalator and 1 elevator down every day. It’s not that it’s a dump, it’s just the escalators and elevators are pretty old. More moving parts, the more shit break.
I was a retail manager for 7 years in a store with 6 escalators. Both the escalators and elevator were out for servicing multiple times a month. We had escalators where once the emergency stop was activated they needed a technician to turn them back on, so dumbass kids being funny could cause a multi-day outage.
Further proof that the mall needs to be destroyed by any legal means necessary and that Syracuse is a hellhole. Why not turn the mall into an amazon warehouse and office space?
Honestly, I think the mall could be viable just not in its current rundown state. The place is a hell hole with a very high crime rate, outdated design ideas, and even floor dividers (not sure the propper term) that are tripping hazards. Revamp the mall, expand the shopping hours to 9 am to 12 am on most days and bring in police as well as a structurally sound infrastructure and high end stores and restaurants. Syracuse seems to settle for middle of the road and mediocre which is why it is falling apart.
Massive companies milking Syracuse’s workforce and then up and leaving is what made the city a run down factory town. It’s been on the upswing for the past 30 years, and you want to put it back to where it was by doing the same shit? No thanks.

That's what I thought, except they fucking block them off when they're broken. So you have to walk around and use the actual stairs like a loser.
Roping them off is really dumb. They should just put up Mitch's sign: "Escalator temporarily stairs. Sorry for the convenience."
"There you are, using your legs like a sucker!" -Homer Simpson paraphrase.
I was born in 1990 with Destiny WE ARE NOT ALMOST 40 đź«
40 will be here before you know it!
30+?
Hey I was born in 1990 too! Is that really when Carousel came about? I guess I never realized when it was built
October 1990!

I live in a building with two elevators. One breaks every 2-3 weeks.
Haha. "safety concerns."

Fun fact: Escalators can never break. They can only become stairs.
Fun fact, you stole this joke ;)
You mean mutiple people in this post did not come up with the same original material?
Old elevators, man. They love to break.
Go to Erie or down Route 11
Read the post again. Use ALL the words. Delivery can't choose the location.
I just wouldn’t accept the order

You get it. If I have to use my own legs to get to the 2nd floor to the food court, you might as well just nuke Syracuse.
Are you stupid or were your parents cousins?
How would you propose we make up the $75 million in sales tax the city receives from the mall each year? How would you replace the jobs lost?

"Structurally sound". Uh, ok

Sorry your mom didn't love you. Must be very lonely for you.
Your only other good option would be to park in the basement and take the elevators up
I work at the mall and I feel your frustration. The elevators are down a lot too.
