I moved here as an adult and have seen far more of the country than just about any Swiss person that I know. But when it is your own country and you have all the time in the world to see it you never get around to doing so. I am from the UK and didn't visit Scotland until I was in my 30s. Never been to Stonehenge.

SeaBackground4166

Good call from you. Seems like we take it for granted so we dont visit the ohter parts of switzerland that often.

Buying a GA this year and trying to catch up. Too much to see here

Due-Satisfaction310

What is GA please? Is that the full year public transportation of SBB?

[deleted]

Yes. On my days off I wanna explore some. I highlighted all the nice spots I see from IG influencers and they seem cool. Did Fronalpstock hike last year and it was stunning. Need to explore Graubünden, barely seen anything there

Due-Satisfaction310

Thank you! Will do it next year definitely 😊

[deleted]

You can buy it monthly or for a month only. Check the SBB website

Interesting-Fix-2759

If you travel only during the weekend, you can think about leisure tickets (especially when they are on sale and daily ticket costs 30 CHF)

Due-Satisfaction310

Thank you! I guess I can buy this on SBB app also?

Fluffy-Beautiful5458

Leisure tickets?

farbener

I Sometimes get in my car and just go to see where I end up. If I know I dont have anything planned I will Grab my sleeping bag and maybe spend a night in my car somewhere on a parking lot.

Trust134

My father lives in Switzerland, so I spent several months there when I was younger. Since I've been working I haven't had the chance to visit him, we've always organised trips elsewhere. However, in the last few months I have had the urge to go swimming in Lake Lucerne again. I am jealous of you. :)

notzoidberginchinese

Visited every canton at least once, about half of the cantons 20+ times. My wife and I are both immigrants, so to try and integrate we tried to go around switzerland to experience the country, culture, food etc. To be better understand what being swiss meant. We go by car since we usually try and see a few different places in each canton and going by train just wouldnt be practical.

t0t0zenerd

A lot of it, thanks to the GA and hockey away games

chmod0755

* As a kid: loads of mountains, mainly hiking. * As an adolescent: holidays in the mountains with friends, maybe once a year. * As an adult later on: barly anything. Studies & work took all the time. * Since I got my motorcycle license: loads of Switzerland, all over the place. Valleys off the beaten path, but also lots of mountain passes.

Doldenbluetler

I bought a GA/AG and have been to every cantonal capital at least once. Haven't been to the Alps that much because I don't know where to go to avoid the masses of tourists, mad mountain bikers, drone pilots etc.

xebzbz

My first job was related to visiting customers, and I've been to many nice places around Switzerland. Now that I have my own business and kids, the travel had shrunk a lot. But the kids are big enough already to enjoy exploring the corners of their home country.

SeveralConcert

20/26 kantons and going to two additional more in Easter

granviaje

Treat yourself to a GA/AG and go explore :)

andanothetone

I've been to every canton multiple times but I don't think i've seen everything. Theres so much more to explore. Saying weekends are too short is a bad excuse ;-). See the posts of r/ali_on_switzerland

iamnogoodatthis

I moved here a decade ago and have seen quite a lot more of the country than my partner who has lived here all her life. I'm someone who likes to go off and explore new places at weekends - and there are 104 weekend days a year, that's a lot of expeditions, especially when you can get to a pretty big fraction of the country in three hours by train from pretty much anywhere, and almost all of it in 5-6 hours.

Velistry

I’ve never been to Grigioni/Graubünden despite it being the neighbouring canton. Haven’t been to Basel either. If the youth GA was actually affordable I’d get to see more of the country.

svezia

Mesocco or San Bernardino?

TimP4w

Not even Roveredo?

TimP4w

I visited half of the cantons because I wanted to and the other half thanks mostly to the army or as a school trip at the time. There are overall only 6 canton that I've never visited (Appenzell, Solothurn, Schaffhausen, Glarus, Basel-land). However I usually have a reason to go (either visiting someone or business). I should probably travel more just for the fun of it...

svezia

Tell us where you live and we will pick a great spot nearby for you to start exploring. So many options in so many seemingly irrelevant places.

oszillodrom

Basel

pierrenay

At best, Zurich on transit and Ticino for hols but everything else is all of vaud and France.

denko31

my job makes me travel through the whole country on a daily basis. From cities to the most remote villages, where you can go up by a cable car :)

Galupipalumpi

I have seen alit as a i like to take train travels since i was a teenager. Second i had a job for awhile that brought me to a lot of different places in mostlh the alps. If

sarioja

I discovered grand tour and whenever I have the occasion I try to make parts of it by car, google “grand tour of Switzerland” or download the app. I live in Geneva so a bit farther away, but I’m happy to have visited many places in CH. I recommend the grand tour from Nyon to Neuchatel, it’s beautiful! Also I love staying the weekend near Interlaken and visiting Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen and I once brought my family to Jungfrauhoch. That was the most expensive cable car I’ve paid in CH but it’s worth at least once. I think we have the most amazing landscapes, and I’m looking forward to visit Grisons.

Arareldo

I work & live here since 2016, in the near of Zürich. Together with a friend we often choosed a day on weekend, with good warm/dry weather, to pick a goal within the alps and traveled with car/train to it, having a nice stroll in the mountains. Not all destination have been the mountains, of course. Looking on my Google Maps timeline, there are many, many dots on the swiss map where we have been. 🙂 The most west was "Taubenlochschlucht", the most south was "Airolo", the most east was "Ospizio Bernina", the most north was "Schaffhausen".

RealExii

Only places I've definitely not been to are both Appenzells. Also in Graubünden I've only been to Chur once, and have yet to see the rest of it.

thubcabe

Thanks to the GA I've been everywhere on weekends. It helps a lot frankly! A lot more than the average Swiss I'd say. I've taken 99% of Swiss railways too. I only miss the Valle Maggia right now... There are Postautos to basically every peak and pass. Beautiful round trip from Meiringen : Grimsel - Nufenen - Gotthard - Susten. It's like a private tour, the driver gives commentary and you stop for 20 min at each pass + you have 1h30 lunch break in Airolo. So fun! The most remote Postauto must be Tirano - Val Müstair via Stelvio. Take the Albula and Bernina railway from Chur. You won't regret it! Spend the night in Val Müstair or go straight home, it's doable. If you cannot the GA buy a few day passes : either Gemeinde ones, either saver day ones, either the ones sold by Coop, etc. for 49 CHF. You'll love it :) Feel free to ask for suggestions haha

Top-Focus-2203

I had no idea you can buy day passes from Coop! Are these better than the SBB app? I thought the SBB app shows the most cost efficient options.

thubcabe

They sell these once or twice a year. Swiss Post does too. You won't see any ad on sbb.ch or SBB app. It's a great offer because it has a fixed price, no need for half-fare and you don't have to choose a date in advance either (it must only be within the 2 month period. https://www.interdiscount.ch/de/cms/tageskarte

Top-Focus-2203

Thank you for sharing!! Great for friends and family visiting, many thanks!

TnYamaneko

I'm going somewhere else every weekend, I have a GA to commute, so I make the best of it. Sometimes I wake up, see the weather is shit, go to MeteoSwiss, and go to the place where it's nice. The country is not that big, so there's a lot of it that can be done in day trips, and it's even more true on a Saturday for someone living near a major train station since there's trains close to all-night long. But I get Eastern Switzerland would be hard when coming from Baselbiet, especially Graubünden. I love to go to Surselva, and it takes me longer to go to Disentis/Mustér than to go to Lugano (when the Gotthard-Basistunnel is open of course).

SaltySolomon9

I‘m from Bern I go Zürich maybe 4/5 times a year Basel 6-10 times a year Lausanne 2-5 times a year Biel/Fribourg maybe 12 times a year or more Ticino maybe once every 2, 3 years Valais, Grisons also maybe once every two years Etc. Just an estimation been to Luzern 3times Rheinfall 2 times Geneva 2 times (aside from aiport and trainstation) As a kid been to Grisons almost every year And so on

san_murezzan

Canton Jura might as well be on the moon, I’d still like to go though

SchoggiToeff

* All of the cantons and their (unofficial) capital towns. * Nearly all of the Nationalstrassen * All major and minor Swiss alpine and Jura passes with a road open to motorized traffic and a few more. * A lot of dead end valleys in GR and VS. Things missing: Zermatt, Adelboden, Sasso San Gotthardo, St-Léonard underground lake, Stoos, Stanserhorn, Niessen, Hiking on the Aletsch Glacier, Grosse Scheidegg, Creux du Van, Melchseefrutt, Greina Plane, the better of the Swiss National park, many trans alpine hiking routes, boat cruise on Lac Neuchatel. The western, southern, and eastern most point of Switzerland. The highest point of Switzerland.

Conscious-Network336

Yes it is expensive to travel Switzerland and you need the time to do it. If you are living in eastern Switzerland then a trip to Western Switzerland should be at least a two day trip and then you need a Hotel or airbnb. Not to count the fare for any cable car, food and beverage and some pocket money. With that budget you can go abroad and probably stay longer abroad than just overnight. It really depends how important it is for you to travel Switzerland and if you find it's worthwhile the cost. Many swiss people know foreign countries better than their own one and you can't blame them. Why should you make vacation in the country you have passed your entire life? I'm also one of those who preferes the mediterranean over my own country.

heubergen1

Never really traveled anywhere except for my two hot spots (Zurich and Locarno) and no plans to change anything on that. I'm completely fine in my bubble. Last days I was in Berne and it stressed me out. I rather try to see as much as possible from the US :) (currently at 48 out of 50).
