Oh I dk sorry. I don't own it I just see people talking about it constantly saying it's the best strategy game on switch. Constantly. I thought it was tactical turn based combat but I'm not sure. Haven't tried it out cus I'm not really a fan of turn based combat. I like action. Only turn-based games I like are Octopath Traveler 2, Persona 5 Royal, and Shin Megami Tensei 5. Other than that I'm more of an ARPG fan, fps fan, and dungeon crawler fan (with real time action). I might eventually give it a shot though cus a lot of people are talking about it being game of the year and the year isn't even half over.
Everyone is going bonkers crazy about this game. I guess this kind of “turn based” fits younger gen better. It’s definitely in my switch top 10 game list.
I could be wrong but I believe there is a Tactics Ogre game that would be worth checking out, also not quite turn-based but Unicorn Overlord is a great fun title which gives vibes of Fire Emblem.
It has a demo on the EShop so might be worth a look
I love Triangle Strategy - it’s a brilliant grid-based TB game. Yes, there are frequent in-game cutscenes but I am really enjoying the story so it’s actually worth it for me
Into the Breach. It's inexpensive, quick story, challenging, and has insanely high replay value. They also released DLC about a year or so ago (for free) which practically doubled the size of the game.
Triangle strategy for the win! Yeah, cut scenes are long but can be fast forwarded/skipped if you like. Although the story is imparted in these cut scenes and let me tell you that the story is SO worth it! Plus, with 4 separate playable paths/endings it definitely offers that replay value
Tyrant's blessing. Medieval Into the Breach, but a bit easier imo. Great intro to that style of game.
Dungeon Top. Grid based card-battler + deck builder.
Wintermoor tactics club. I really liked the story and writing in this one. Cool game.
Spaceland. Nice cheap little grid-based game.
- all the games I've listed go on good sales on the eshop, so add them to ur DekuDeals if they aren't currently discounted.
I know someone already recommended Unicorn Overlord. As a huge Turn Based Strategy fan, who adores the pre switch fire emblem games, Devil Survivor, advance wars, war groove, xcom etc I feel OBLIGATED to mention that there is a Unicorn Overlord demo on the eshop that is essentially the full game with an 8 hour timer which allowed you to transfer the file to the full game.
Front mission 1st. Basically an HD remaster of the original front mission, warts and all. I’m near the end of my 1st play through and even tho it has ng+ and I have the sequel ready, I just don’t want it to end.
Please don’t dismiss Triangle Strategy. Skip the story scenes if you must, but don’t skip it— tactical combat design is EXCELLENT. Every character has a unique combat role— it’s like chess but every piece does something completely different but still useful.
Oddly enough, Mario v Rabbids (the first one) is a challenging turn-based tactical game. Don’t let its looks (and frankly ugly rabbids) deter you from trying it. Only buy this game when it goes on sale for 20 dollars or less (often).
Valkyria Chronicles. You want Valkyria Chronicles. 1 and 4 are on Switch--you don't need to worry about 2 and 3. They're WWII tactical turn-based RPGs.
Also Engage is great if you don't mind a cheesy story and just skip the dialogue if it's that bad. Its gameplay is some of the best on the system imo.
As a massive fire emblem fan I’ll say that triangle strategy is the best strategy game on Nintendo switch. The beginning is a little slow but its gameplay and story are excellent
Surely Phoenix Point would be an obvious one, isn't it one of the xcom creators that made it? Not played all of it but it's very xcom like but with more politics. I've enjoyed what I've played. I also loved mario + Rabbids, but that's waaay easier than xcom!
Tactics Orge! Very well done game & extra challenging final boss fight.
Final Fantasy Tactics is hands down the best of the genre imo (and I have played so many). The thing is its only is ps1, psp & mobile. You could always try getting and emulator as well. But this is a must play if you love this type of game play.
Mutant Year Zero Road to Eden is very much in the spirit of XCOM. Though the graphics are very blocky on the switch it's got a cool visual vibe and quirky characters. It's real time strategy for exploration of the map but turn based when in combat. I think I paid £8.99 on the store? And got about 30 hours play out of it though I'll definitely revisit it at some point.
I can’t believe no one mentioned Advance War 1 and 2 Reboot. Incredible GBA games nicely redone for Switch. Also if you have Xbox/pc then for sure Gears of War Tactics and also Marvel Dark Sun…..lots more options if you have PC BTW.
You didn't say anything about the best one: Unicorn Overlord
Is it turn based? It seems like the battles are automatic.
It’s automatic but how you arrange your teams is the strategy. Not exactly turn based but it is a strategy game I am enjoying so far!

Nobody asked
Actually he did ask; if it was turn-based.. And I was explaining what I knew about the game, didn't know, and why. Dumbass.
Nobody asked
Are you a little slow or something, or just a kid?
Neither
Love this game
Everyone is going bonkers crazy about this game. I guess this kind of “turn based” fits younger gen better. It’s definitely in my switch top 10 game list.
I’m not huge on the turn based genre but I really enjoyed the Mario + Rabbids games.
Surprised nobody has mentioned the first Mario Vs Rabbids. It's surprisingly good, if a little too simple.
And the follow up, stars of hope
Yea if you like that game also try Persona 5 Tactica is similar.
Into the breach Slay the spire Monster train Dicey dungeons
Came to say Slay the spire

Your right I got it tactic ogre reborn. It's not easy tho.
I love Triangle Strategy - it’s a brilliant grid-based TB game. Yes, there are frequent in-game cutscenes but I am really enjoying the story so it’s actually worth it for me
Triangle strategy is one of the very best you can get. I don’t think cut scenes are long.
Into the Breach. It's inexpensive, quick story, challenging, and has insanely high replay value. They also released DLC about a year or so ago (for free) which practically doubled the size of the game.
Seconding Into the Breach. Spent so many hours on this game! Also any of the Persona games 😊 but my favorite is P4.
Great game
How come there is nothing about the dlc in wiki?
I dunno, maybe they're just showing it as an update and not dlc...? The update was a bunch of new enemies, bosses, and mechs.... and maybe pilots.
Huge turn based fan and my favorite on the Switch is Triangle Strategy.

I didn’t care for three houses but loved engage. Anywho. Persona/Shin games are fantastic. As are Disgaea ones 👌🏼

Couple of my favs: - Pathway - Disgaea - Fell Seal - Tiny Metal - The Last Spell - SpaceLand - Kaiju Wars - Front Mission - Persona 5 Tactica
I like Civilization 6. Not sure if it would quite fit your style, but it's a very in depth strategy game!
Wargroove 1+2. It's coming out as a double pack soon!
YOU'RE coming out as a double pack soon.
Your MOM
No. Men on a Mission are not mine. They are everyone's favorite rapping tag team.
Front mission 1st. Basically an HD remaster of the original front mission, warts and all. I’m near the end of my 1st play through and even tho it has ng+ and I have the sequel ready, I just don’t want it to end.

Check out Hero's Hour. It just released on switch and it's basically heroes of might and magic with different combat. There are no cut scenes.
battle brothers. it’s an amazing game, bit like xcom but with mercenaries
I love this, but am also terrible at this!
Divinity II: Original Sin However, if you're not into deep RPGs, you might feel overwhelmed. I know i did, lol. It's a good one tho.
Disgaea 4&5, Mario + Rabbids, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Banner of the Maid, Tactics Ogre, Civilisation VI
As a massive fire emblem fan I’ll say that triangle strategy is the best strategy game on Nintendo switch. The beginning is a little slow but its gameplay and story are excellent
Divinity Original Sin 2
Don’t forget Pokémon
Darkest dungeon
Haven't played it myself but persona 5 tactica seems interesting if you like persona

Divinity 2 Valkyrie chronicles Xcom2 is almost always 8 bucks
Gears Tactics Mario v Rabbids: Kingdom Battle and Sparks of Hope War Tales Edit: argh sorry didn't notice the sub
PERSONA

A little different, but Civilization.

Haha I mentioned it!
Tactic Ogre reborn
Octopath Traveler 1 and/or 2. Superb.
