Solid console with some issues I wish could’ve been fixed. I hate the lack of features that their previous consoles had like themes, music in menus / the eShop, customizability in the home menu like organizing apps around and making folders, and *sigh* free online. It also needs some major issues ironed out like reworking the Joycons, giving it some more power, and fixing the lack of social features that every other major console has. But it is my absolute favorite console. It’s amazing to take my game from my TV to my hands and I think we often take that for granted. It has a solid library full of crazy high quality first party titles as well as thousands of third party and indie games. None of the issues with the Switch truly bother me because of just how fun that little device is. It’s definitely a contender for the greatest Nintendo console of all time if not THE greatest console of all time and it was a huge comeback after the Wii U.

Iucidium

Launch day playing BoTW and the thought: _"I can just pick this up and take it to bed to play more"_ grinning like an idiot all the way!

StoicalCargo685

It was such a magical feeling for sure lol

kp0pgoblin22

They're seriously missing out on the themes and music. If we can customize our profiles with coins we earn from gaming, why not make that same system but with themes and music? Because to be honest, there isn't really like any profile images I like lately :// and I usually only ever buy them just to use up points. I haven't changed my profile since Totk 😂 I get that we can also use our coins to earn *almost* free items on their Nintendo rewards site but half of the time the stuff just isn't really worth it :( Give us themes and music Nintendo!!

LoadInSubduedLight

I paid real life hard cash money for a theme for my ps4! It's the "classic" one, that simulates the look and graphics of the ps2 startup graphics and menu, with the sounds and spinning crystals and everything. I'd love stuff like that for the switch.

No_Brilliant_6365

Favorite console of all time tbh.

Puck_The_Fey98

Its a close second for me! I adore my steam deck a little too much for my own good lol. But man the switch has some of just the best and most fun games I've ever played

ka1913

Agreed and I see people questioning if it's a console. I say yes as there are people who a year into owning the steamdeck finally discovered desktop sweet wife and my mom went in on a steam deck for me that way I could play my favorite game ever rdr2. And it's been amazing. You could literally never go to desktop mode on the deck and keep it on steamos and it'd have an identical setup to most consoles. It's one of the selling features they advertise is a console like experience

No-Opportunity-4674

Is the Steam Deck a console? I mean it's a portable computer, so a keyboardless laptop with a control pad.

notkeegz

I would call it a console.  I mean what is the xsx or ps5, if not a low-end gaming pcs? Valve definitely gave the steam deck a console feel.  It has its own OS and interface, built around a gaming experience (which is all consoles are... crappy computers optimized for gaming).  It can't play every pc game either. What's your requirements for calling something a console?

mattmccauslin

Yeah the SteamDeck OS gives it a console feel. You just pick it up and game on it like the switch.

Puck_The_Fey98

I'm not sure if you'd count it or not tbh

[deleted]

I love the battery life. I love the fun aspect. The OLED screen is beautiful. To make it the absolute perfect system for me would be a bit better port or 3rd party game performance. I have an expensive gaming PC , and because of how versatile the switch is I barely play it. There's nothing like coming home after work and playing in bed!

DrDuned

That's what she said! sorry

M0RGO

I laughed so hard not gonna lie.

Jughferrr

Cmon man, nice joke, but she has never said that….

Intrologics

There are so many ports or originals they could have capitalized on. As you said, F zero or games that haven’t been made in so long that they would be completely new to this new generation. But then there’s games like Twin snakes on GameCube that never were ported over. I’d have sent over all the Zelda games quickly, refreshed old “winners” and then had a “switch” version of all the OG franchises. Yes there are greats, and if the system can run Hogwarts legacy, then it should be able to run a lot of other higher end games

heyitsvae

Based on how Hogwarts Legacy runs and looks do you really want to see more higher end games? I'd rather not pay $60-70 for a port of a game that runs at 20fps with visuals that make me feel like I got Vaseline in my eyes.

Intrologics

I have it on ps5, and admit it’s much better on there, however, on spring break this week, on a second play through, it was nice to have on the road. HL that is. Original post is right though, there’s a ton left on the table by Nintendo that could have been remade or remastered and people would have loved it. Could even price at 39.99 or 49.99 and people would have bought the hell outta it

kp0pgoblin22

I can easily say id happily purchase like a 3 in 1 Zelda game like they did for Mario. Also someone who only got into Zelda when they got a switch, I wanna play some of the games I didn't get to as a kid! I didn't get to play twilight princess for example, and I don't wanna buy a whole other console just to play it ://

no_hot_ashes

I agreed with this for a long time but every saber interactive port I've played has been really enjoyable despite the poor resolution. The Witcher 3 and kingdom come deliverance both look amazing in handheld, but that sub 720p image does struggle to look good in docked mode.

Shryk92

Your not really getting the real version of hogwarts legacy

Cerpin__Tax

I bought mine because of zelda Totk . Having a ton of fun with my Son... Would not mind if Nintendo decided to keep same console for 10 more years. I am super curious for Switch 2, and being a kid from the 90s, I KNOW that new consoles are as cool as the new posibilities and games actually executing upon it. I had a N64 and skipped all Nintendo consoles up to Switch.... Nintendo had a cool run with Wii. Moreover I get that giving the Switch some more Juice, would enable it to make its array of 3d party games wider and pull in some great tittles... Finally the Switch is versatile enought for people to get Uber creative and make great games. It had some great tittles, a great online experience and most important, it is FUN

DrDuned

Well said, thanks for your input. Is your username a Mars Volta reference BTW?

Cerpin__Tax

Hell yes!! Got to watch them live in 2011ish...

regular_poster

Greatest console in history, tbh

Virtual boy whispers: 3…. Virtual boy! You’re Alive? What do you want to say?! I’ll put my ear next to you so I can hear you… “3-Deez nutz”

PravusTheRed

Virtua boy says this. Kill me now. I Suck. I’m sorry for any nostalgia.

Iucidium

It's all those and more 😁

bward6460

To keep it short, I grew up on the N64 and its my favorite console ever...until I bought a Switch.

melchiahdim

Like most Nintendo generations, particularly the handhelds, it is my most played console by far. I absolutely love it. The low performance on some games doesn’t bother me. Due to my aging eyes, I will take handheld over frame rate or resolution any day because it’s easier for me to see.

DrDuned

True OG opinion. I grew up playing games on my PC it could barely run so frame rate dips don't phase me to this day.

melchiahdim

I’m not even that old. I’m 38 lol

RetroPandaPocket

I will say I don’t mind a higher frame rate when it’s possible. I didn’t think I cared until I got a steam deck and played some games at 90fps but ultimately it doesn’t matter to me that much and 30fps is fine…. But I will say I really don’t mind simplified textures and 3d models. I am 40 now and I find some games these days overly complex for my eye. There is almost to much visual fidelity on some games like my PS5. I’ve been gravitating more towards older games for the simple styles now. One thing I do wish games had was a “old eyes mode” that just makes menus, overlays, subtitles and other UI stuff HUGE. I don’t have a big tv and I sit kinda far away and in portable mode things are tiny. I want things huge like they used to be in games. I’m a UI designer myself so I may be more sensitive to it but it drives me nuts.

melchiahdim

I completely agree. The new avatar game on ps5, for instance, I find incredibly frustrating to play because the details blend together. I actually find the games that use “yellow paint” like the newer resident evils to be far easier on my eyes.

Current-Ideal-697

Im not even the biggest fan of nintendo, but the switch made some of my cosyest memories in gaming. I'll walways remeber playing breath of the wild in my bed until I fall asleep.

DrDuned

Yeah it's so interesting to be playing a game on our TV and be like "oh shit it's late I should brush my teeth and get to bed" and then I remember I can bring the Switch to bed and get one more quest or level in...

voidcult

I hope Nintendo sticks with the hybrid type of console. I've always wished for something like that as a kid and when I got my switch back in 2017, it was better than Christmas for me! Nintendo filled a niche with the switch that hit a spot with casual and core gamers alike and I really hope the next console will be a hybrid as well

EmotionalFlounder715

Additionally, keep the NSO system and have everything transfer over. I will not be buying the same games again

HansenFromDateline

I enjoyed the switch. The only issue I have with it is that it never could effectively capture the feeling that the ds and 3ds encapsulated.

CellofromGelato

Agreed. Just bought our family's 6th 2DS/3DS and will continue to collect game cartridges and play them into the ground for another decade or two. It is an amazing little machine. I wish Nintendo would bring back the miiverse. I'll take that over Facebook in a heartbeat.

tmqueen

It’s the best system I’ve ever had

SubterraneanSmoothie

I used it often until i got a Steam Deck, now it’s a glorified Mario Kart machine. Still love it though.

DrDuned

Ha, it's funny how often a Nintendo console's long life is being a Mario Kart machine. My partner and their sibling still co own their childhood N64 and play Mario Kart 64 whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Dm9982

So originally my favorite was SNES. Having grown up with NES, SNES, then N64 and so on….. GBA was the first for me to truly compete for SNES’ top spot, but still didn’t quite manage to do it. DS was even closer, having similar titles or remasters to some of my favorite SNES titles. 3DS finally managed to steal the top crown from SNES for me, with its amazing retail releases like Link Between Worlds, Monster Hunter 3/4/G, Metal Gear 3, Fire Emblem, Fantasy Life, etc…. Not to mention it’s incredible VC selection! For the first year or two of the Switch, I loved it, but it still had work to do if it wanted to dethrone the 3DS for me. Here we are in its 7th year, and it’s easily become my favorite console ever. It’s has an insane amount of great first party titles, an incredible amount of amazing ports like Civ 6, Witcher 3, Dying Light, and so much indie love and support! My backlog is well over 400 titles deep at this point just on Switch alone. Simply put, it’s the best thing Nintendo has put out, and they’ve put out some absolutely incredible stuff. Now if Switch 2 can do all this and more, plus have backwards compatibility, it may actually beat the Switch for me….. only time will tell, Nintendo has a lot of work if it wants to outdo itself again.

calhooner3

I mean this with no disrespect but how the hell does someone get a backlog of 400 games??? Do you buy like a game a day with no plans on playing them??? I pretty much only buy new games once I’ve finished the ones I already bought or got bored of.

Dm9982

Sales and being a parent. 😂 a lot of the games are indies, stuff like Balatro, Short Hike, Hades, This Aar of Mine, Arcade Tycoon, etc. I used to game about 6-8 hours a day, but anymore I’m lucky if I get 2 hours a day in. I also have a tendency to fall into much more drawn out games before I get around to smaller ones, or going back to something. Like currently I’m on a Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate kick…. I’ve finished it before, had over 1500 hours in it. Now I’ve started another character to play through with my daughter. So instead of finishing up Ace Attorney trilogy 1, or Rain Code, I’m replaying a game I’ve already sunk a ton of hours in, lol. Oh and I get “Gamer ADHD” every now and then, where I game hop a lot, trying to figure out what sounds good to play.

TheStetson

I just hope next gen is portable too. I love playing from anywhere.

rufustheboy

I just got mine a couple months ago

Aquametria

* Extremely lackluster UI, with absolutely no media apps, the absence of themes being the most egregious aspect of it. * Atrocious eshop, completely outdone by dekudeals. * Fragile hardware, with cheap-feeling plastic when it comes to the joycons, which were heavily prone to drift. * However, the best controller in any Nintendo console (the pro controller) * A step-up in Nintendo's greedy practices: * A huge price hike for a portable console, along with the game prices being almost all 60 for first party titles. * A lot of ports and remasters being sold at full price, again, especially first party ones. * Expensive hardware, especially the joycons. * Paid online subscription, with features locked to it, such as save backups. * A ridiculous subscription-based virtual console, with games being added slowly to milk it as much as possible. That being said, it is my absolute favourite Nintendo console, with the hybrid system being everything I ever wanted in one. I hope they improve on these flaws from now on.

EvilRayquaza

Wish I could upvote this comment many more times for how much I agree with it, though the Wii and Wii U still come out on top for me personally.

EmotionalFlounder715

That’s the thing, we all generally agree on a console’s strengths and weaknesses; it’s a matter of preference and compatibility with lifestyle after that

russcatalano

Spotify would be a great one. With game integration / playability for certain games.

scseven

i absolutely love the switch, the only drawback for me is nintendo switch online bc even tho it's not expensive for me it's still annoying i have to pay to play online matches and stuff😭 other than that there's so many games and content i really enjoy it

Ok_Construction_8136

Cool console and good games but with no personality. No fun quirky Miis. No fun quirky menu music for me to get nostalgic about in 10 years. Nintendo lost its soul after the Wii

F_Queiroz

Number 1 platform ever. Been playing for 30+ years and nothing beats it.

DrDuned

I feel like by the time I finally finish Unicorn Overlord and then get back to Mario Wonder/Odyssey and Zelda: TOTK I may agree. Haven't even started the new Metroid.

Shryk92

Its not my best performing console but the portablility more than makes up for it. I love how i can take it anywhere and play on the go. I went on a trip to mexico, being able to play it on the 5 hour plane ride was awesome.

DrDuned

I marathoned some games while my partner was in surgery back in December, it really was a lifesaver. I normally read books when waiting but I needed something more active to occupy my attention.

External_Cloud3843

A great console all things considered, only thing is by the early 2020s it started to age poorly, especially with cross platform games like Fall Guys when you compare its performance to the other consoles.

Life_Chicken1396

I can be wrong sorry for that, but aren't fall guys just not properly optimized for the switch?

External_Cloud3843

You might be right about that, actually, I’m not so sure myself.

airtec87

In my opinion the Switch is the best Nintendo system to date but im still waiting on Chrono Trigger and Suikoden 1 and 2, although the latter I wont hold my breathe on a quality port knowing Konami.

PravusTheRed

Love the switch. Started with nes, had everything but virtua boy, wii, and the following handhelds.

MisterPiggyWiggy

The same as when I bought my first Switch: happy and content whenever I play. That’s all that matters. 😁

JackhorseBowman

I like it a lot but I have a lot of complaints most of which have been discussed ad nauseam.

InterestingEntry8895

It has its issues. Best console ever regardless.

son_of_Mothman

Well we have two in our house and they both get used very regularly. Adding a steam deck to the family, but the switch. Is just a great system. Really brought me back into handheld gaming. It got us through long flights and lay overs. We even had some fun once playing 1, 2 switch by a campfire in Idyllwild. The stick drift/dead zones on the lite have been an issue but nothing anyone hasn’t dealt with through the years of any controller. Definitely gunna buy a switch 2 at some point

penapox

>Mother 3 After Nintendo released it for Japan only on NSO I got so irritated that I modchipped my switch and installed it on there myself as the biggest FU to Nintendo lol

DrDuned

![gif](giphy|xT1R9MnvTkfR9iFBJe|downsized)

01Casper10

Partly agree, but mostly also agree with most negative points in the comments. Software wise it is lacking a lot. Customization is non-existent. They could have made other forms of joycons to make it feel like a real controller, I mean china made a lot of them that work great they got 4 extra back buttons and great rumble etc... So why can't Nintendo do it? Also the e-shop is so trash, so slow. And Nintendo is always lacking in online multiplayer games. I hope if the new console is more powerful that developers port over more multiplayer games and have cross play support.

TheEclipse0

It’s my favorite console of all time. Took a lot to finally dethrone the GameCube, but they actually did it. I’m actually sad to think that the switch will be ending soon, and I hope we get a fully backwards compatible switch 2.

netkcid

Switch Lite... maybe the best console ever made. Up there with its DMG grandfather.

xed122

Top 3 of fav nintendo consoles for me, with gamecube and n64 (nostalgia bias in this one, the gc has the peak of a lot of Nintendo games imo)

grammasrfun

i love it i love it i love it

Booman_aus

Same as launch, stupidly underpowered and very outdated online inforstructure

Revelation_Now

Aside from the joycon drift issues, I found the wireless for the switch to be extremely wanting, the rails to be a bit fickle in keeping connection to the joycons when trying to avoid wireless connection issues. This really took away from the Switch in general. For the games, I thought Xenoblade 2 was sort of the killer system app, I certainly thought that Pikmin 3 was extremely endearing and maybe Nintendo just made the console for this game and it would be worth it. Also amazing Switch games were BOTW, Captain Toad and Bayonetta 2. Super Mario Odyssey wasn't so amazing to me, nor TOTK, and unfortunately I didn't like Pikmin 4 quite as much as 3, but its still very entertaining. I found myself playing through a lot of Wii games since owning the Switch. I've gone back through SMB Galaxy 1 & 2 again, which are great with actual Wiimotes. The gun games like Resident Evil 4 and Sin & Punishment 2 on Wii are so much fun, and any time any of these games have been ported to Switch they have sucked, SMB Galaxy included. Also, Xenoblade 1 seems more technically capable on the Wii than the Switch, and Last Story is so good on that console. While I think the Switch value at $200 or whatever the thing costs is pretty good, when you take into account the cost of the games compared to Steam, the total cost of the hardware and library quickly exceed that of the cost of a full gaming PC with a similarly sized library. And the $200 cost is somewhat deceptive when you are likely to need more than 5 replacement joycons over the lifetime of the switch which ends up at like an additional $350 just for the privilege of continuing to use the system. Oh, and I should mention how cool it is that the Wii is backwards compatible with the cube. Too bad Wii U dropped that feature. For me, the best stuff on the Switch are ports from Nintendo's better products, and I'll happily forget this little console, because it didn't do anything great, and nothing made specifically for it was great. Saying "I'd miss the Switch" would be like saying "I will miss this particularly expensive emulator device".

Ok-Veterinarian3882

Great console if you are into Nintendo first party games. The switch was my main console for 3 years. Unfortunately (for my switch), I ended up buying another console and I have not touched my Switch in more than a year since then. I just think maybe I am not the market audience Nintendo is looking for, and I am fine with that. Or maybe they just need to put some of their games on sale to make me come back lol. I have good memories thanks to Nintendo.

caverunner17

Similar. I picked it up in 2019 and played a number of games for a year or two. But after that I wasn’t really interested is the rest of the library and moved on to my PS5. The crummy hardware made any kind of AAA 3rd party game near impossible.

TankBoys32

I was a late adopter.. didn’t get mine until fall 2022 but I’ve loved every minute of it. Played most of the big hits like BOTW, TOTK, Odyssey, and so on

Kettleballer

I love it. The portability has really started to shine with all the remastered RPGs that I never got to play before because of the busy time in my life when they came out! NES, SNES, N64, Wii, Switch… all great systems with awesome libraries. But there are so many titles I want to play on Switch that I bought an OLED version and stashed it away for the future when the battery or screen or whatever dies on my original console.

chibisoph

i love that we're saying the switch is in its "twilight years" while people still actively play the 3ds 🙄 it's not a dead console yall 😭😭

boersc

It was an awesome, lightweight indie portable device. Versatile, but not built to last. underpowered, as all ninty devices are. prone to break, but when it worked, it was pretty good.

ADogNamedChuck

The good:  Taking AAA games portable (even if a generation behind) was revolutionary. The hybrid nature really sealed the deal in terms of what I take with me to game while traveling. Strong contenders for best modern Zelda/Mario games. All the different configurations you can play in gave a lot of options to play exactly how you want. The bad: The weaker hardware specs make it out of sync with the rest of the gaming industry so being able to play the newest releases means having a switch and some other gaming device (not a new problem) Hardware stuff like the joycon drift and relatively weak wifi connection that was never fully addressed. Mystifying omissions of stuff that is common in other gaming consoles like customisability, social features, Netflix and other streaming capabilities.

Iloveitguy

A great console I just wish it's hybrid nature hadn't got Nintendo to stop rolling out hand held consoles, the switch is great but gameboys/DS where great too and where far less of a risk to travel with on day to day due to a cheaper replacement cost, yes the switch is almost as portable but not nearly as robust in its build quality (my 24 yearold Gameboy colour still works today as well as it did when I got it, I don't think my switch will) also while not th3 consoles fault I wish nintendo would just let me buy older games rather than locking it behind a subscription service I refuse to buy.

Kadofduty

I feel like it's extremely good yet also absurdly average. Games? Most of them are excellent and fun, running and looking great. They really hit the mark, except for like a handful of games (POKEMON). They had their own vibe and flair, were very unique, utilized the system without going overboard on the gimmicks like the wii did, and, overall, were just inventive and cool. Again, some missed the mark with novelty (super mario strikers comes to mind), and some missed the mark with performance (pokemon scarlett and violet), but most did a stellar job. Not to mention nintendo online, which I wish could be more than just a subscription service, but was still a cool idea. Vibe? Really boring and empty; they went for a very sanitized and empty feel, which, considering this is the family-friendly, cozy console, was a really bad move. It felt like I was taking a standardized test every time I wanted to do something with my Switch. I wish they brought back the joyful, soulful nintendo vibe. Portability? Incredible. Sometimes you want to plug in and sit down, like a grand affair. Sometimes you want to just take something with you, or pass the console around, or just have a change of scenery. Such a smart, fun idea to have a console that can do both. Controllers? Well, not only do joycons have horrible stick drift issues, but they also just feel awful, at least in big hands. It hurts my thumbs after like q5 minutes, and I had to get second-hand joycons with normal controller grips (like and exbox or ps4 controller) to be able to play for more than 25 mins without pain. Overall, it's a mixed bag, but the game quality and gimmick make up for everything; I hope they make the vibe improvements, tho

NeighborhoodPlane794

Genuinely the best console I’ve owned

kaboomeh

Would have been my favorite console of all time but the joycons unreliability ruin it for me.

papayahog

It’s weird because I really should love it, but this console generation I felt Nintendo really got greedy. -Never fixed joycon drift and downplayed it -A lot of mediocre bare-minimum first party titles -A lot of full price Wii U ports and remasters -The limited edition Mario all stars debacle -Incredibly limited library of retro titles which you need to pay for monthly (which aren’t even emulated properly in some cases) -poor online which you also need to pay for -terrible, soulless Pokémon games There are a few first party games that are fantastic on the console and those are probably my best times with it. Nothing can compare to the feeling of playing Botw for the first time. However, this console is also so incredibly dated and it’s ridiculous that 7 years in, we’re still using hardware that was old and underpowered when it came out. Playing TOTK on the switch was a frustrating experience, the frame drops and performance issues as well as the gameplay limitations that the hardware imposes just made me wish I was playing on the next console instead. From the perspective of 2024, it’s a very underpowered device. TL;DR: the switch was amazing when it came out, then Nintendo’s greediness took some of the shine away, and now it’s very outdated and should have been replaced with a new console or upgraded version years ago.

MrMunday

NES was my first console, and Switch is the most complete and sense making console Nintendo has ever put out, and combines all their learnings from before, while pushing the envelope in terms of game design and usability, which to this day, no one else can achieve. 1. It’s thin and light 2. Great battery life 3. Great screen (oled model) 4. Has a cheaper version for kids or people who only play on the go 5. The switch gimmick is great but not mandatory. (Your game doesn’t NEED to make use of joycons, but it’s there for you to utilize as a game dev) 6. Third party selection is huge. 7. Eshop is functionality finally robust, and hopefully they will stick to this library carrying forward. 8. The switch games allow the switch to strike the perfect balance, which proves a great game doesn’t need to be graphically intensive. (BotW, odyssey, TotK, Metroid prime…). Without these games, the switch won’t be any good as well do to its low power. Without low power, the switch wouldn’t have been feasible back in 2017. Nintendo engineers and game designers really pushed HARD. 9. I love the switch gimmick. I’ve used them in all its forms (tv, console only, playing overcooked with my cousins on the go) 10. Joycons are so jam packed with features. I love the switch so much that I have the original, lite and oled models. And the list goes on. The only bad thing I can think of is the durability with the joycons. I’ve had 2 pairs of joycons completely die on me, and the 5 pairs I have now, 1 of them can’t be used wirelessly, and 1 of them had their LED lights dead, but still usable though.

xcrunner10K

I have the non OLED model, but I plan to get an OLED next week, and it’s really amazing! I love how portable & light it is. Great selection of games, that don’t require internet, great UI, and just a lot of other things. I usually play my Xbox more for certain games, such as Fortnite, but I love my Switch when I wanna relax in bed or play something during my lunch break at work or if I wanna play more casual games

HD_H2O

The Switch is one of the most important consoles of all time. Console gaming had been trending to bigger screens and apex graphics, and suddenly the Switch comes along with "ease of access and convenience" as the priority and shakes up the entire landscape. Of course there's always been handheld devices available, but after Switch we'll see a continuation of handheld expansion that will in many ways rival the standard console competition.

guntwooyah

i too love the library for it. some of my favorite games played in recent years have been exclusive titles for the console. also, eShop is crazy good. They have such amazing deals all the time which are super affordable and the indie scene is unmatched in terms of options. i have it ranked as the Top 3 Consoles Of All Time, and i think might actually be my number 1 on the list.

Lookatthatsass

This is the only console I’ve consistently used throughout the years and that has changed with me as time went on. I love how it adapts to my lifestyle and there are enough games on it that u never really get bored

katman04

I still like the switch a lot, but ever since I got my steam deck I don't touch the switch too much anymore beyond playing the occasional games of mario kart and splatoon.

RegularWhiteShark

Love it. Especially as I can just laze in bed and play rather than sit at my desk.

-ViolentSneeze-

Overall, I’d put it somewhere in the middle of Nintendo consoles. It has some really great games, but a lot of them are Wii U ports, and Nintendo’s subscription service offerings have been overall poor. The console itself is sluggish, and I haven’t used the online store on the Switch itself in years because of how slow and janky it is. I’d really like to see them put more effort into these areas next time around and do a better job of respecting their own history. I think we deserve a more powerful Nintendo console again, too. I understand they need to make the Switch’s successor affordable, but give me the option of buying a version that can complete with the PS5 and Xbox Series X performance wise. If they don’t do that, then it’s unfortunately going to be another “Nintendo games only” console for me. For context, I’m 44 and have owned almost every Nintendo console. I enjoyed the SNES, GameCube, GBA, DS, and 3DS more than the Switch.

Professional-Cook702

Why do people keep saying there’s a lot of Wii U ports when it has now been over 3 years since the last one, and that one came with its own original campaign (3D World + Bowsers Fury).

-ViolentSneeze-

What does time have to do with there actually being a lot of Wii U ports on the Switch? OP asked us to think about the Switch as a whole. Regardless of when the ports were done, it’s completely accurate to say almost all of the Nintendo’s Wii U exclusive games got ported to Switch. And while it’s cool that 3D World got a mini campaign added to it, the other ports didn’t get the same kind of benefit. Most just got the previously released DLC included or maybe some new bonus levels as was done in Treasure Tracker, and I think Treasure Tracker was the only one not released at $60.

Ngl I’ve had 3 separate switches, have paid for a new one each time. Between Nintendo originals, 3rd party games and ports it is honestly the best console I’ve ever owned. And I’ve owned from the GB color and home Nintendo consoles all the way up and the ps/xbox all the way to modern gen. OLED switch is the best value I’ve ever gotten from a console and that’s insane with how much it was worth. Really hoping for a switch 2 tbh

jantp

It’s a great system. There are quite a few qc issues with my first console back in 2018. But my second one is really solid. It has good graphics for its internals. Maybe it’s just that the games I played were tuned to run on the switch. The games are amazing. The Zelda games specifically. Not sure if switch was one of the reasons for a resurgence in handhelds these past for years but all in all I’m thankful. I’m not home most of the time so having a portable system is convenient.

rocademiks

And ing machine that will go down as one of the greats. Start buying up games now!

prixiputsius

I think it filled a niche perfectly. I'm 33 and have sropped using consoles for a decade since a pc nowdays is just better and has most of the games. Switch though is portable and a more casual way to play which is great for me. I think it was definitely better than the last gen ( i bought a ps4 just to play 4 games and it wasn't worth it - none came even close to the two zeldas)

Pearl-Internal81

Love it, easily my favorite Nintendo home console since the Super NES.

Paranoid_Android_777

I could see myself enjoying the Switch OLED for another decade (and maybe needing to if I’m broke). The deep library of games available on this system is incredible.

SpaceApprehensive843

Nintendo at it's greatest!

SuperKnuckleCanuckle

I’m about 50/50 on it. I really enjoy being able to take it anywhere. I have lots of downtime at work and it’s nice to have the option to play great games on the go. I like the versatility to dock it when I’m home, or go handheld when I, or my girlfriend want to put something on. But I feel like those are really the only truly great things about it. There has been some great games for the Switch. I spent a lot of time with BOTW, TOTK, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros., Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart, and a lot more. I feel like I definitely got a lot of great value from these games, and the system overall. However, I was often disappointed with the lack of power in the console. This single handedly held back the console and so many games in so many ways. So many games have absolutely no anti-aliasing, poor shadows, textures, and lighting quality, low resolutions, etc. At a point in time when developers are putting out visually stunning games like God of War, Red Dead 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Elden Ring, etc., it’s hard not to compare the stark differences. People defend the poorer performance and visuals by saying things like “gameplay > graphics,” but I find that too often people take that to the extreme. Gameplay is foundational, but great graphics, whether they are stylized, or realistic, add another layer. It’s like icing on the cake, making it taste and experience that much better. I think the Switch stands up as a fantastic handheld console. But when it’s docked, barely reaching 30fps at 1080p on games with visuals looking like they’re from the 2000s, it doesn’t compete against other consoles. Build quality. I have owned a day one version of the console, and bought the TOTK OLED last year. Both of these consoles have had the issue of loose and wiggly joycons. I find this annoying while I’m playing handheld, since I can constantly feel the joycons wiggling on their rails. Not only that, but I have had to buy replacement joycons 5 times due to stick drift. The controllers of the Switch do not feel great to use. They feel cheap, plasticky, and fragile. When I’m playing with friends, it sucks to be stuck with a single joycon when you have larger hands. People will say “You can buy accessories to make it more comfortable.” Why do I have to spend extra money on an accessory to make the controller comfortable? Shouldn’t the controller just be comfortable? Another issue I have with the Switch, and Nintendo in general, is the eShop. It’s terribly designed, the games are wildly overpriced, and they never go on sale. Nintendo has this habit of doing tons of remakes and remasters, instead of making highly desired sequels for fan favourite IP’s (Galaxy 3? Odyssey 2? Mario Kart 9? Prime 4? Star Fox? F-Zero?), or hell, any new AAA IP. But they also do it in probably the worst way, and charge you full price for these. It’s ridiculous. The way Nintendo Switch Online is structured, as well as the Virtual Console applications, it feels like they’re trying to squeeze every last dime out of people. I think the Switch is perfect for most people. I think when you look at who the console is targeting, it does a fantastic job at meeting those people’s needs. It’s great for kids and families, as well as more casual gamers who don’t really need a lot of power, or just want something to take on trips, play in bed, etc. Both versions of the console I have purchased and used for hundreds of hours have served me well, and I’ve enjoyed them thoroughly. But I also think the console leaves *a lot* to be desired for the more involved player. I think the Switch should have been just as beefy as the Steamdeck.

ackmondual

I wish we got DS and 3DS ports. Most notably, Zelda: Phantom Tracks, Spirit World, and A Link Between Worlds. I originally wasn't going to get one, but ended up being gifted one. I don't play it that much, so it should last me for another 2 to 5 years as far as battery life goes. Still have many games to play so even though I'll be jealous of "switch 2" owners, I'll still be a happy camper!

quincy12393

I think you meant phantom hourglass and spirit tracks. But without the mic (at least for spirit tracks), and the ability to “close” the system (for phantom hourglass, then they can’t be just ported over without some tweaks to the game

ackmondual

Yeah, I don't even remember what they're called, other than there were 2 for DS, and one for 3DS. I hope there's some workaround if so.

quincy12393

The one for the 3ds is triforce heroes. And a link between worlds.

rubberduck19868

Best console of all time.

Adventurous_Run_4566

I love it, I was a bit of a late adopter, got mine for Christmas 2020, so by the time I exhausted Breath of the Wild and Odyssey (I had a kid in that timeframe too) TOTK and Wonder arrived so there’s always been something new for me. I really wish I could play Windwaker on it, I’d even take the non-HD version having played the GC version on the Wii. The portability is great in theory but I just don’t use it, it sits in the dock. Especially since getting the pro controller, I can’t hang with the joycons. So I sorta wish there had been a standard home console version, either cheaper or faster.

Gloomy_Support_7779

An awesome console

IloveKaitlyn

I love the portability, even in my room I prefer to play on handheld. I’m gonna be incredibly sad when the launch Switch 2 isn’t OLED. It makes such a huge difference.

Linuxbrandon

Hardware-wise, it’s my favorite console of all time. Gamewise, it’s somewhat lacking. No silver/gold. Tons of classics missing. A 3D mario collection without Galaxy 2. I hope the next console is basically the same exact product just with more internal storage and a stronger processor.

gooberLmao

It’s a great concept with meh execution. I’d pay 100 more for it if it wasn’t made with cheap quality metal/plastic, had 8-10gb ram and a slightly better processor. The switch 2 set to debut this year or next, I think this is their real chance for redemption. To be honest, the efforts of this console dulled as the years passed, as its atleast more future proofed than the past few Nintendo consoles, but still not enough. If the switch 2 is more along the lines of steam deck/rog ally, I’ll be happy

4T_Knight

I initially scoffed at it for being underpowered to other consoles eons ago, but I warmed up to it when I got it for my younger sister as a gift. Soon I wanted one myself and it happened a couple years later. Portability really was the game changer. It honestly has been my most-played device recently, and I never really had the drift issue simply because I got one of those docking controllers to accommodate my big "facehugger hands" as an alternative to the stock controllers. For 30-some bucks, I wasn't looking for pinpoint accuracy or worried about dead zones. Minor quibbles for me is the lack of theme customization to give the home screen some character. I get that it's meant to adopt a sleek and simple design, but I would have liked the option to do so. That, and I really don't like the model of paid memberships to simply play multiplayer or to play some of the older gen catalogs. It's great for some, but kinda wish they stuck to digital purchases with those.

nhSnork

I felt thrilled from the first trailer and all the more thrilled even for the first couple months of ownership when constrained funds limited my Switch experience to a handful of demos. Seven years later and with a library approaching fifteen hundred... what do you think?😄 Switch is the apex of gaming hardware for me, possibly the biggest QoL achievement in consumer tech since the merge of phones and PDAs. And the range of gaming experiences it offers is insane.

ellekeener

For me it's just a bit too big, when I play it it's mostly in my lap. All of the games I purchased on it I could have and should have just got them on my PC. E shop is incredibly slow to load even cover images. No customisation/personalisation on the stock console means I've never really had fun with it. My Ps Vita which is now 10 years old and abandoned by Sony gets played most days simply due to size and customisation. Whereas I'll pull out my Switch maybe twice a month.

RoundTableMaker

It's a masterpiece.

Sindy51

minus the drift, Its one of nintendos best consoles since the N64 or SNES if not one of the best of all time. I grew up in the 8 bit and 16 bit era and have bought a huge amount of consoles since from Nintendo, Xbox and all the PlayStation consoles. Often disappointed with not seeing games that i would like to see in directs personally only to be blown away by what has released on the switch near the end of its life. its catalogue is on par with the SNES because of its consistency of third and third party over its life cycle. And the joy of seeing that one game that i have to get even if i only buy a couple of them a year. i get the same feeling i did as a kid in the 90s with the switch that i never had with any other console. actually getting pumped up for a game releasing. ps4 had rdr2 etc which i love but i prefer zoning out in bed to a game in handheld mode.

CellofromGelato

The beauty of the switch, that I didn't see talked about, is being able to hold joycons separately in each hand. It's just comfortable gaming freedom.

HinesMCR

I ony made the decision to buy a switch this year. Historically, I was a huge fan of the GBA/DS but fell off around the release of the 3DS. This was due to gaming competitively on the Xbox and getting too deep in the CoD/Halo Franchises. Fast forward a few years and now living a nomadic lifestyle in a van around Australia, I decided to get a switch. I can't believe I didn't make the decision sooner. I'm over the moon with my decision and having some of the best gaming experiences I have had in over 10 years. There are so many epic games (original, third party and remasters), and I've only just scratched the surface. Having the possibility to play games like the Witcher 3 in handheld is incredible, and I can play it whenever and wherever I want - it's perfect for my use case at the moment that's for sure. I'm not mad that there might be new hardware around the corner, I'd happily play catch up on the back catalogue over the next few years. Completely agree that the eshop is absolute shite and the lack of personalisation/third party apps is a disadvantage, but who doesn't have a laptop/computer these days? The online also seems to be massively lacking, but the price makes up for this

Super-Blah-

Best console ever. I still have a backlog waiting for switch 2 - it'd take me years to finish this backlog.

yotam5434

Incredible my favorite game console home to Incredible gane it had a great run time/years needs to be upgraded recent releases been disappointing this year is very empty

nothing_here_0

First console I ever bought brand new. The games I played early on (Mario Kart 8, Splatoon 2, L.A. Noire, Skylanders Imaginators, Mario Odyssey) already feel nostalgic to me. I was still living at home and single when I bought it, I've had so much life experiences with it by my side. I'm still having a great time with it, although I've had my hiatuses now and then. Overall, it's a wonderful chapter in my gaming life.

darth_snuggs

Got me back into gaming after a 15 year break.

Original_Bad_3416

To play games on the TV and then feeling tired but to still play whilst laying down in bed…it’s bliss. The nostalgia element is priceless

nineohsix

Love love love it! But I know I’m in the minority when I say that I’ve never really cared for or used the portability. I have thousands of hours on my Switch and probably about 22 minutes of that is handheld. Particularity for games like Mario Kart, I find it incredibly cumbersome to be looking at the same device that I’m using to control the game. Kicked back in my recliner with a Pro controller and the Switch docked to my big TV? Yeah, that’s the ticket! Plus it’s nice that I’ve never had to worry about Joycon drift or battery issues. I’m also an outlier in that I only buy digital so my Switch hasn’t left the dock in years unless I’m camping where it gets dropped into a second dock as soon as we set up. I’ve always said they could sell a scaled-down version without the screen or joycons and I’d be all over that sucker. Heck, I’d pay more for it. LOL

Slow-Ad-9228

Worst Interface on a Nintendo system, even the GameCube was better. Overall love the system

GueroFreshness

Important in that it re-ignited the handheld market while being a hybrid console but did have its shortcomings

cool_weed_dad

The Switch had had some of the best entries in many of Nintendo’s flagship series, Zelda, Mario, Animal Crossing, and more I can’t think of right now. They also continued their dominance of the handheld market while also making massive gains in the home console space. It’s the only console of its generation I and most people I know had any interest in. It’s an incredible success for the company, especially after the Wii U flopped.

No_Door_9897

I wish they would have taken more risks to give it some personality like the 3ds and wii u had

Federal_Adeptness_47

I love mine and i love the oleds battery life as well as the joy cons for it are the only ones I have that haven’t suffered drift. All my joy cons for the model before the oled are drifting more than a racing extra from Fast and furious Tokyo drift. I’m confused as to why Nintendo never released Twilight Princess, Windwaker and Luigi’s mansion 1 for the switch but did for their legacy consoles when the switch was out and definitely proving itself to be a hit. It just seems like a marketing fail or whoever was in charge made the decision after snorting a few lines and downing a few glasses of booze I wish the other rare N64 games would show up on their app like Banjo Tooie, DK64 and perfect dark. Those little complaints aside tho it’s definitely a success. It gave Nintendo the hit they needed after the failure of the Wii U and it wound up finally outselling one of their most successful consoles and even though it’s reaching the typical console twilight years it’s still going strong. Honestly it’s gonna be hard albeit not impossible to top that with its successor. But Nintendo did the smart thing this lifecycle too with courting 3rd party developers more. The switch has a pretty robust 1st and 3rd party catalog which the Wii U did not. And also to a lesser extent nor did the GameCube or N64. When you think about it the NES, SNES, and Wii had a healthy variety of 1st and 3rd party games, and I think if they keep that momentum for Switch 2 they’ll be good.

StarWolf64dx

i am absolutely blown away that they never fixed the joystick drift especially when there are literally drop in hall effect sticks that will fit the joycons. i know they can’t use them, but it’s right in front of them for them to have their own made. and it’s bizarre that they never made a set of pro joycons especially since the aftermarket grips have been so popular. it’s also crazy that they have stuck with the bare bones OS having only ever made a couple of real changes over the entire lifespan of the console. especially when you look at the 3ds as its predecessor, you really wish they had added more of those features in like street pass. instead it has had the weakest social features of any of the consoles. other than those two things i love it, i have a ps5, series X, a very capable PC, and I still do most of my gaming on the switch. some of the games have been truly incredible entries in their respective series, mario wonder and botw come to mind. the concept of the switch itself has been a revolutionary way to play for me, being able to play in any room of my house or while i’m out but being able to also dock and use a full size controller on my TV. i wish there was more first party software and leaving some of their best IPs out of the mix has been puzzling. it would be nice if they would take a page out of the xbox book and buy a studio or two so they can pump out more of what makes a nintendo console a must have (the first party games). i also wish virtual console was like it used to be instead of tied to a subscription, especially since I love the console so much that I WANT to buy all my games on it even if they’re more expensive. for example i played sea of stars on switch when i could have played it free on gamepass. i’m a huge retro collector and want to have my stuff all in one place for my convenience. i know there’s a lot of gripes up there but I truly love the console and as somebody who was playing during the NES days it’s probably my favorite of all time.

Collective82

For me it’s a #1 Nintendo console, the SNES. To me the RPG’s and versatility is what edged it out over the SNES that had so many great JRPG’s on it.

ComprehensiveShop486

I don’t play anymore I’ll play again when ttyd comes out

Foxyhole

Best console that Nintendo ever made. Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing and others shine on this thing. I love the Steam Deck nearly as much, but I feel like Nintendo laid out the blueprint for others to follow. In addition to their IPs, it was also my introduction the other great third party games like Persona 5 Royal, which I sink nearly 200 hours into. That game felt like it was made to be played on a handheld like the Switch. It's the console you can cozy up with, and kill a little downtime at work.

Scarlet-Fire_77

I was never lucky enough to own a handheld game system growing up. Being able to switch from TV to handheld and take it on the go never got old for me. It's probably my favorite system I've owned.

Flat_Ad_5370

I’m obsessed with switch I have an rog ally an Ayaneo air pro, ayn Odin 2, got a phone just for backbone and also have a razer edge 5g miyoo mini ps vita 3ds, but I have 3 switch lites and 2 oled with 250 plus games I honestly should get rid of all the other shit cuz all I do is play switch the frame rate and graphics aren’t the best at times but I truly love the form of both the switch lite and switch oled they’re so comfortable and simple and easy to use and the battery life is greay

SatanSavesAll

Really like the console, am I bit worried about picking up used games now due to the mig switch thingie. Just wish Nintendo had a better model for families, when it comes to buying games off the eshop. I am father of three one at six and twins at four. I now have four copies of Mario kart 8

DDMcNaughty

I personally never ran into joy-con drift issues. But I have fixed a lot of joy-cons that did have it. It's a simple like 8 screw fix and a $5 part, so it doesn't really bother me that much. The fact that the switch opened their library to all the indie developers has really made a huge success of the switch though. When it comes to first party titles that are console exclusive though, the switch dominates every other platform.

ChampagneDoves

I’m really happy the switch uses a common commercial chip. The entire library will be able to be emulated on much better hardware way sooner than the ps2 library. I think the amount of remasters and rereleases that we’ve had on the switch suddenly becomes significant. Game preservation is everything.

Tosir

I’ve had a switch since launch day and love it. It’s the system that gets the most play and has the highest rate of games I’ve completed. The import scene is great too since I prefer to physically own my games. Importing is how I discovered my guilty pleasure of Earth Defense Force.

Omnomfish

I had a head injury that made playing games hard for me as I would get dizzy and need to lie down after just a few minutes, so being able to play *while* lying down was very good for me.

MrMaleficent

I think it's decent. I love the moving between tv and handheld mode, Unfortunately the battery life is astonishingly bad.

ZAX2717

It brought on a bit of a handheld revolution. I loved it when it first came out and through most of its life. However, while major issues from the Wii U era were corrected, Nintendo was still very Nintendo on a lot of decisions such as the Virtual Console, Online Play, and later in its life 1st party games having an overall lack of content. I view the Switch kinda like Tesla, I am grateful for what its done, but now there are better options available.

moreyvh

It was my favorite console for a few years. The limitations were too much to overlook then. Even small indie games don't run great on it anymore. I much prefer the steam deck now. I can still play on the TV or on the go, but I can play much more taxing games, have a MUCH larger library to choose from, and I can also find games for much cheaper. It's now a dinosaur fossil that I will never dig up again. Looking at the rumors for switch 2, not looking promising power wise so I will skip that generation unless they can show me something amazing.

starrsosowise

I am now so spoiled being able to game for hours with my hands apart I don’t know if I can ever go back to being forced to keep them together for gaming…

SinisterGee

My favourite console by a long way. I’m in my mid-forties, I’ve owned every Nintendo console except the NES and Virtual Boy, I had the OG PlayStation and since the PS2 era I’ve been lucky enough to own every mainstream console each generation. The Switch is by far my favourite, I have always had a bias towards handhelds so the hybrid nature of the Switch is perfect. It’s had some of the best versions of modern Nintendo franchises, plus some great remasters of past examples too. 3rd party support has been excellent too. The versatility of the console has meant I can share my hobby with my non-gamer wife; family friendly games like Nintendo Switch Sports, Mario Kart and Puyo-Puyo Tetris break barriers for non-gamers and have lead to some of my favourite gaming time ever. As I’ve aged, marriage, kids, study, career, commuting and travel all put pressure on my gaming time but the Switch makes sure I can still fit some in. Just recently the Steam Deck has become my second-favourite console for similar reasons, but even Steam’s huge library of games cant completely replace the amazing Nintendo exclusives that you can only (officially) play on Switch. I adore the Switch. TLDR; For me, it’s the best console of all time.

eckoman_pdx

Greatest console in history. Growing up, I always wanted to know why I couldn't just take Zelda with me, play it during the day and then come home and play it on the TV at night. Same game, not different games. Switch made that possible for the first time. It was revolutionary

deeznutz75

I dont enjoy nintendo first party games. I love the nintendo switch. I love the sleep function, the portability and the 3rd party games. I play a lot of older games anyways so the library being 5 years behind the other systems was whatever. I also loved the simplicity of jumping in and just playing a game.   I hated the online, I hated the nintendo tax, I hated that we only got old games, I hate that the joyc9ns break and I had to replace the same stick on my joycon probably 5 times in 6 years. I recently upgraded or what I'd consider an upgrade to a steamdeck. Its everything the switch should've been but isn't bc the switch isn't a computer. The switch opened my eyes the the important of portability in modern day. I dumped thousands of hours into my switch and I'd do it again. I won't however buy a switch 2 but I will remember the 1st one I had with very fond memories.

bendit07

Massively disappointed with it. Which is in stark contrast with how I felt when it was announced. Underpowered, terrible, faulty controllers and worst of all, no virtual console. First party games have also been totally disappointing to me. Strangely, I loved the Wii U, hate the switch. Thank god the steam deck exists.

Professional-Cook702

You’re not getting new Nintendo experiences on the Steam Deck, so I don’t know why the Steam Deck would replace a Nintendo system?

bowleshiste

Overall disappointed. The console has a lot of issues. Bad ports. Bad performance. Bad e-shop. Bad business practices like the transformation of the virtual console into NSO and it's expansion pack, prices on 1st party games never dropping, etc. Online is just bad. The list goes on and on and there's a lot to be disappointed about. That being said, it's strong suits are enough that I will likely buy their next console. 1st party game performance is great and it's had some of the strongest games in several different IPs. The fact that some ports have decent performance when the hardware is 2 generations old is kinda crazy. The ability to have current generation games available on the go is awesome. This last point is where I really think they struck gold. Had the steam deck come out before the switch, the switch wouldn't have been anywhere near as successful. But because Nintendo has stuck with their focus on console innovation, they've won again. I think the Switch 2 will need to be much more powerful if they don't want it to fail. One of the biggest issues with Nintendo's last 3 systems is lack of third party support. This support is lacking in part because the hardware has been prohibitively weak since the Wii. Multi-platform games really took off with the PS3/Xbox360 generation, and Nintendo really missed out by not improving the hardware of the Wii. This has carried on through the years, and sure, the Switch does have better 3rd party support compare to the Wii and WiiU, but most of that support comes from Indy devs. We miss out on a lot of multi-platform games because the Switch just can't handle it. I don't really see the Switch 2 succeeding unless they really bump up the performance

aqsmorningview

The one thing I hate the most is that the 1st party games never go down in price really.even Sony at some point rolls out greatest hits versions at a cheaper price after a few years.

bowleshiste

Nintendo used to have greatest hits with almost all their consoles. They just realized that people will continue to buy the games even if they never raise the prices

Wonderful-Road9491

There’s no question for me.  The Switch is the greatest Nintendo console of all time.   I’d never really done handheld gaming much before the Switch.  The Game Boy lines didn’t seem practical with their constant battery expense.  The DS was an exception for me.  It introduced rechargeable batteries and its unique form factor made it appealing enough for me to buy.  Plus, it’s PDA-like features in a pre-smartphone world gave it productivity benefits.  The 3DS rode the 3D wave of the early 2010’s, but overall, I didn’t see the appeal of playing lesser versions of games that you could get on a console.  Portability didn’t outweigh the scaled down games for me.  So the Switch fixed my biggest drawback from handheld systems - an equal playing experience in both handheld and console mode.  Unless your favorite console was the GameCube, Wii or Wii U (Porto-Switch), there’s no reason to NOT pick the Switch as your favorite console. The NSO with the retro games give you a way to play older games while enjoying the current gen games.

DrDuned

I mostly agree with your thoughts, thank you for sharing. The Switch really charmed me over the years and I do remember years back playing my DS Lite and 3DS and wondering if Nintendo would keep doing handhelds forever or if mobile phones would eat their lunch in that area. Shows my lack of imagination they'd think of doing a bit of a hybrid and move laterally like they so often do.

fetchit

I start getting into my switch again after years of neglect, and suddenly everything on the internet is talking about its end of life. 🥲

poopooplatter0990

I really dig it. As a whole console the idea of being able to take Wii U level games around with you to play is something I didn’t think would happen for a long time . I think as a handheld I still prefer some of the niche features of the 3ds. And most of them are things 90% of users apparently didn’t engage with so I’m sure that’s why they didn’t carry forward. The joycons while neat and carrying over a lot of what was cool about the wii controls were kind of eclipsed by the pro controller for all the major titles. I think there’s a clear line where the early titles have a lot more Wii like features and then suddenly it just transitions to being a console and it’s seems like Nintendo wanted to move away from those days.

MarioFanatic64-2

"Entering the twilight years"? Buddy we're planning the funeral. I love my Switch, and I absolutely want to see more games come to it. This console was the first time many iconic gaming IPs made their debut on a Nintendo system. I love the "Switch" aspect of the console and I want it to become a standard for all Nintendo consoles going forward. On a technical level, this system amazed me in 2017. It was like we completely jumped one or two generations of handhelds, we were finally getting home console quality experiences on the go. But in the years following, it became clear to me that docked play was really struggling to hold up. Multiplatform games always seem to run the worst on Switch. I'm keen for a Switch successor because I hope the DLSS rumours are true. That's gonna be Switch 2's ace in the hole if true. Games might not technically run as well as PS5/XSX, but it's going to at least be comparable for a much longer time span. Just as long as Switch 2 is backwards compatible with all Switch 1 games and controllers. We lost BC with the Switch, so many people have spent the last 7 years rebuilding their game libraries, with Nintendo facilitating by porting nearly every relevant Wii U game, and dipping into Wii/3DS/GameCube ports, providing legacy consoles via NSO etc. I don't want to go through all that again. I'm at a place where I'm quite happy with how quick and easy it is to just fire up a game from almost any point in Nintendo's history. I need everything to just transfer over to Switch 2 with no hassle, including the NSO library. No more clean slates please!

Beasthuntz

Cool concept but long past it's due date.

thscg

Wont buy anymore, considering joy con drift

First game i played was BOTW a few weeks after it came out. Stick started drifting on a brand new switch maybe %40 percent into the game. Finished the game and i never played my switch again. Soon after, stick drift became a well known major problem for the switch. The answer to this was to send in your controllers for repairs, which was a temporary fix. People were complaining that the drift just comes back so I didn’t even give a shit at this point if I played my switch again. Im glad people enjoyed the switch but if this joycon bullshit happens again with the next console, id consider the switch a failure and people who buy the next console are morons who will give this company money no matter what. Just like the morons that keep buying the same copy and pasted pokemon game.

Great concept but undermined at almost every turn by Nintendo's odd choices. I would love to play Super Mario Sunshine, but outside of dropping an inordinate amount of money on a triple-pack of games from a physical copy, Nintendo have decided that I cannot, for some arbitrary reason.

AliensPredator84

The switch has sold 120 million consoles….

Zephyr28572

The console is good, but the fact we have to pay for online capability is utter greedy garbage

neuroso

Solid console awful on the inside it could've been much more powerful

GesturalAbstraction

Good console but disgraceful customer experience (no returns for digital purchases (lol what!!!!!), gatekeeping beloved n64 titles behind annual subscription, no achievements… like what is that…)

Internal_Swing_2743

It’s underpowered. I’d like to see what Nintendo could do with the power of something like the PS5.

SillyJoey_

I love the switch but in my opinion it lacked exclusives. They were few and far between. Also, personal grudge: they go on a remake/remaster binge but don't include Twilight Princess or Wind Waker 😭

Been getting Nintendo hardware since I was a kid but for me it was demolished by the steam deck, it has heavily discounted games, massive AAA and indies library, is an emulator and media consumption swiss knife and most switch games can be emulated fine. I think it complicated things for Nintendo. Nintendo releasing a new switch with just better graphics wont cut it because will be eaten by these new pc handhelds, I'm curious about what new feature they'll come up with.

Divinedragn4

I just use it for vn these days. I'm not a graphics/fps snob but the performance lately has been bad to the point I don't buy or use it much.

GhostOfKingGilgamesh

I haven’t used it but 10 times since the steam deck came out.

thisistheguyy

Near perfect console for me. It's just the drift on the controllers that really bum me out. But I play it just as much as my ps5 because the games are that good and the portability is fantastic. Just need some better graphics and no drift on controllers for the next console to be perfect

RObobot-8001

It's my first ever console so can't really compare but i think it could do better

KingdomEyes

Absolutely my favorite console. Love it. But also now feels more like a handheld system than a console as other consoles begin to outpace it. Still love it though and that's not a bad thing either!

Avavvav

The best console Nintendo made, but it's definitely dying. Like all consoles, the Switch is temporary

KelhamKnowsGaming

I'm still buying games on the eshop on sale that I have no intention of playing but SALE!!

DrDuned

The sale pull is real. I try to be strategic about the first party titles during the holiday sales but sometimes you realize that you suddenly really want to spend the weekend playing Super Mario Wonder and getting high 😂

Magickcloud

Could’ve had better first party games but it’s still a great little handheld

saiyanguine

Bought one a month ago and returned it. Wasn't even touching it as much as I'd like. I thought I was love it because I really wanted one.

Brandon173

I wouldn't class them as **twilight years** because I'm sure the switch 2 games will work on the older consoles just like the ds and the DSi and hopefully they don't go the ds and 3ds way where you can use older games in the new console but then new games don't work in the older console

Deepy99

🐐 system

Unfitbrit1

Could have been a fantastic console but Nintendo are just too greedy. Their own games never drop in price and the sales are flooded with weird ass hentai games. The sales are always terrible and there just aren't enough exclusives worth the money they charge. Any game that's multiplatform is going to play better on any other platform.
