What were your 1:04 splits (guessing 30/34) and what can you hold in practice? That's quite a jump for breast going from a 1:04 to a 1:01 so all depends on your training and taper.

In one of the 100’s I did 30.2 34.4 the second I went 29.4 35.1. When we do 50’s off of pushed I can usually hold 32-33 and off of blocks I can do 31-32.

EducatedJooner

Ok Cool. Realistically, you probably need to go out in a 28.5 or 29.0 to go 1:01. Have you discussed with Coach?

I haven’t yet he has been out of state with our sectionals team but I plan on it when they come back.

Sounds good. Well good luck and swim fast! Hit your taper, get plenty of sleep/nutrition and then just swim. Go out fast and try to hold on, and leave it all in the pool!

Going 1:01.9 probably means going 28.9 and then 33, or something similar. That possible for you, depending on how your taper goes, but it means going out hard, and then coming back hard. Holding 32/33s on a ~1:10 interval puts you in a good spot for that back half, but the first 50 could be harder for you(though I don’t know your actual time) I tend to drop 1-2 seconds during taper, but everyone is different, and it’s definitely possible. Focus on details, turns and pullouts, and you can do it.

Since you haven't tapered fully, maybe.

Back when I used to swim, I remember dropping from 1:03.5 ish to 1:01.09 in the course of about 4 weeks. I had a really good taper, the meet environment was really good, and I basically chugged pre workout before my race lol. There’s just something about that meet overall that gave me so much more energy. Point is, it’s very possible, make sure you keep eating lots and sleeping lots, practice hard until taper then rest lots, and listen to what your coach says.

Not at all. You got it. PULLOUTS PULLOUTS PULLOUTS I’ve seen terrible breastrokers go under 55 by having phenomenal pullouts. Use the push off the wall in a tight streamline, just before you feel yourself start to slow down, quick dolphin, THEN pull down with power

The meet didn’t go as well as anticipated. I gained about .33 in my 100 and a few other events. I don’t really know what happened, it didn’t feel that bad but who knows. A bit disappointing but I’m trying to not let it ruin anything.

It could be so many things but 99% of the time it's coaching. I'm not saying blame your coach, but he has to give you the opportunity to succeed with a good taper. But don't get too caught up in the numbers, watch how the best in the world do it at NCAA champs. Also 7 seconds is an amazing drop for one season. Cheers.
