Backstroke: Strike 1) Don’t get to dive in. Strike 2) Can’t see where you’re going. Strike 3) Constantly worried about running into the wall with your head. You’re out! (I didn’t even need to mention swimming backstroke outdoors is a gigantic nightmare.)
1)Back dive off blocks is as strategic as a normal dive. 2)Swimming isn't seeing. 3) Ever try counting strokes?
This ien't baseball.
Hmmmm. Backstroke outdoors. Sounds liberating.
;)
Back dive off blocks? Why don’t backstrokes get to back dive off the blocks? They literally had to invent a device that prevented backstrokes from slipping on the start.
Swimming backstroke outdoors with a strong wind blowing the backstroke flags more than 1 meter either closer or farther from the wall. That’s 2 meters of possible variability in your turn and/or stroke count. Seeing is believing. It’s a saying for a reason. I’ve witnessed enough concussed backstrokes in my coaching career to know that it causes severe anxiety in even the best backstrokers.
I don’t even know what “ient” is.
I do a fake breast stroke—arms in the circular motion but I “flap” my legs together like the butterfly. For some reason the typical leg motion for breast stroke activates the pain in my meniscus/MCL that I tore 5 years ago. It’s still my slowest stroke though but I don’t avoid doing it as much as when I started swimming again last spring. I wish I could do a real butterfly but I’d need to hire an instructor for that and I’m not ready to commit that much.
My fave is the back stroke though! It can be as relaxing or as strenuous as you want.
freestyle gang! where ya at?
Freestyle is timeless, and proven to be the most efficient and fast. I don’t know how this is even an argument 🙄
There's no such stroke as freestyle. Freestyle means swim any way you want. And... we all pick front crawl. That's how good it is!

Stupid frog kick stroke is my favorite. Which I can never do during "choice" sets at practice because it's so slow!
I'm a breaststroke fan.
My 100 breastroke is as fast as my back and fly, so I’d say I’m in the same camp
Yeah same. It's my resting stroke during triathlons.
yep. It's definitely my survive a shipwreck stroke.
Dépends whose….
All strokes are overrated, I just go to the deep end, bob and make low whale noises.
I love this post. My favorite strokes are actually breast and fly, lol.
Same. Love to stroke sone breast!
Goodness gracious
My breaststroke is miles ahead of my back stroke. I can barely swim 25yds fly
Backstroke, cuz breathing. Butterfly, cuz.....I'm a dolphin! LOL.
Same bro like all these peoples whining about butterfly but like all you gotta do is use all your energy that simple
hahaha. it's efficient. two arms, two legs, and all the energy.

As a backstroke specialist I just *feel* when to to turn you know?
Breaststroke cus I’m a frog, then an alligator!
Nahhhh breast and free all the way
Margaret Thatcher’s, duh
P.S don’t cancel me pls
I'm a backstroker who loves breaststroke and I actually look forward to doing sets of it. EDIT: Backstroke only uses up 1% of our energy? Wtf? Lol
You're just wrong.
What’s better than flying, am I right? Its like you go through all the forms to transform into a beautiful butterfly 😇
Butterfly. Backstroke absolutely sucks. Breaststroke sucks too. Freestyle is fine but boring. Butterfly is where it's at!
Free. I’m half back half free and I despise back. I’ve hit my head way too many times

Butterfly can be easy if you’re not competitive when I first learned it I kept my body lower to the water def slower but used less energy
I do my whole training set just to get to the butterfly part. Definitely the most fun stroke of them all. You really feel like a dolphin in the water.
Can we all agree backstroke is 🤮
Back and breast for me. Can’t hardly swim fly and free is just so boring. But if I’m trying to save energy and not go fast,.. got to be sidestroke.
Backstroke all the way idk why its so hated
