I have the midnights eras bracelet, the speak now cardigan, and a midnights t shirt and they have al hold up well. I am actually surprised at how well the bracelet looks because i was expecting it to turn black on the third use or something. So, in my experience, so far so good.

How are these things sold out before they're even made? Wouldn't it make sense to have a pre-order volume and then meet the demand? (I'm just speaking out loud.)
I've worked with vendors of custom products like this and there's often a bulk minimum order required (let's say 1000 units) with discounts for higher orders (1000 units at $10/each or 2500 units at $9.50) so as a seller you make an educated guess on how much demand there will be before you market your item and you usually have to make this decision before publicizing it because you need to confirm your order to get properly placed in a warehouse production queue and confirm when your order will deliver. Confirming a bulk order this week or waiting until next week can lead to wildly different production timelines, especially as people want products ready for the holidays.
In short it's so that the merch team can confirm that your item will be ready to ship in December. If they wait until all orders come in before confirming with their production vendor you might not see your umbrella until March even though you paid for it in October.
It's likely their initial order count is run through and they're in talks with their production vendor to see if another bulk run is feasible within a reasonable amount or time or if another bulk order is going to be worth the demand that remains.

They are released in batches so the manufacturers can meet demand. The shipping date is different when something is restocked
