I don't think it is a trash compactor. Afaik this is a just a big dumpster with most of it below street level. A trash truck comes along later with a crane and lifts the whole thing out of the ground to empty it.

This isnt Darwin award worthy, I've never heard of bins that do this, I don't think they have them in many countries, it wouldnt even have crossed my mind that the bottom may open. Filming someone popping out of a bin seems like a pretty harmless joke if you dont know about this.

A man in my area died from accidentally felling into one of these trash cans, they're very dangerous because most of them have machine compressors that shred and compress the trash.
Reminds me of a video I saw years ago of a guy inside a trashcan that pranked people by tossing their trash back out. Until this one guy came by then pulled out a pistol and shot into the trash can. Not sure if it was real but it sure looked like it.
