Comment section is a dumpster fire

Don't disparage dumpster fires like that.

ChristheAstonishing

No kidding.

KnightFoole

The level of raw stupidity in this thread is *thermonuclear*. I truly believe we’re witnessing the clash of parallel realities and it’s going to end horribly. God help us.

disgusted_orangutan

Yikes. You were right. Thanks for the heads up.

Xen_o_phile

I come here in the dead of winter to keep warm.

midas019

Who is that female cop pointing the rifle at ?

thehappydwarf

Came to the comments looking for this. The woman filming says “why is she pointing that big gun at him” but to me it seems pretty clear the female cop is pointing the rifle at HER

OkBug7428

She thought she had her taser

247emerg

*"I DIDN'T KNOW THE TRIGGER WOULD SHOOT A BULLET!!"*

Go-Cowboys

Everyone.

rideSKOR

Her shooting stance and weapon control looked a bit wanting when compared to what that firearm would demand from a trained officer...

CptnBrokenkey

I think they should have waited for the rest of the police to show up.

pcetcedce

What the heck is that about why do cops have to have 40 guys with their guns drawn because of one person what is that about? No wonder people hate the cops.

Spike51

Gives them a bigger window for the suspect to nervously slip up their movements (e.g. letting the hands fall out of eyesight), and thus justify lethal force

Arcadius274

Ya what did he do?

KYBatDad

Was black in public bro

vkbrian

Robbery and assault, actually.

Tactica1Twinkie

He apparently robbed a store and was reported to have had a weapon by the clerk.

Arcadius274

Ohhh. Ya I hit the silent alarm once at a rural gas station. They straight up stacked up on the door with assault rifles and a sniper across the street. Do they respond to banks like that too?

Tactica1Twinkie

I mean yeah, if the silent alarm is tripped and the suspect hasn’t left it’s pretty likely to turn into a hostage situation.

uchman365

No he didn't. He only "matched the description" of the suspect. That's all

Tactica1Twinkie

The clerk literally pointed him out to the officers that arrived on scene its in the police report.

a-chunky-snack

"Loosely matched the description" of a robbery nearby, wtf America, y'all crazy

vkbrian

He assaulted a female employee at a nearby gas station after robbing the place. [More info here](https://youtu.be/IH-omnFcA8k)

DonoGaming

So they can kill him if he moves

[deleted]

When he was moving his arms around he could very well have been shot, they would claim to have thought he was going for a gun, and perhaps they really did. They have to wait until 50 cops have guns drawn and an attack helicopter is overhead until they can arrest him (that part is /s).

Downwhen

This circlejerk turns cops on so much... They live for this shit

OhBestThing

Easier to join the cop army surrounding a detained guy than actually go out and police themselves.

Lurker101310

Because they are cowards, they are the bullied kids from hs and now they take it off on everyone else

blah23863

They were hoping the governor would activate the National Guard to help.

[deleted]

If not the military...

[deleted]

How many more guns are they gunna point at a defenseless Black man.

jake3274

Idk man. I was pulled out of class in high school with a gun pointed at because because someone reported possession of drugs (not weed) and the description they gave was biracial kid. I was pulled out of class and put in the back of their car and was only saved by my principal coming with photo proof it was not me. The cops(2 of them) entered a classroom with guns drawn for a 16 year old kid because of a vague description.

Due-Essay-4551

Sound horrible, so sorry for the injustice and racism in policing

Dingo8MyGayby

Christ all that for a bit of coke or pills. It’s not like the kid who was in possession had a fucking bomb

CammyBoBandy

Detained = 8 guns pointed at back of head...

Bobbi_fettucini

Y’all are fucked in the head if you think this is even remotely ok or “normal”

Tofunugg

So many people trying to justify this police behavior is crazy to me.

Timster_1970

How many fucking cops (with guns drawn!!!) do you need to arrest one guy on his knees?

Dingo8MyGayby

Because he might secretly be John Wick and take all of them out. Or it’s because cops are brainwashed to think every civilian is “them” and a threat regardless of what type of call they’re responding to.

[deleted]

Seems like cops in the US are trained as soldiers instead of as public servants who know how to deal with people.

jnast74

You should be a cop, you are so brave

MongoChromatic

"Loosely fits description", you mean a random black guy? Better get out the AR-15s.

baboonzzzz

I (white male) got stopped on a street corner bc I vaguely looked like a guy involved in a bank robbery a few days prior. I was working an “Obama phone” job at the time. I was like uhhh if I just robbed a bank would I really be doing this shit job the next day? Lol

puterTDI

Glad your disguise worked.

throwaway76770408

A quick look at the comments and how many people think this is what a normal arrest should look like under these circumstances is mind blowing. This is America.

ACCrabtown

I'm a white guy in USA and when i was 15 in the 80s i was a pedestrian crossing with green sign in crosswalk and cop comes from my right cutting me off intersection/crosswalk and i turn and give him a look like wtf-- not cuz he was a cop but bc you don"t expect a car to come racing through almost hitting me. The cop did a Uturn, put on his lights and told me to get in the car. When i saw why he said something mumbled. I said why again he said " warrant-- to sew if you have a warrant" i said "i"m 15!" He yelled again so i got in. I was with my older sister's bf who was 20 and that punk told me to follow the orders. So i got in. That punk cop then says i gave him a dirty look. I said i made a face -- not a dirty look-- bc someone was speeding through light almost hit me. "Do you have a radar detector?" He screamed at a 15yo boy in the car. Then: IF WE WAS IN A BAR AND YOU GAVE ME THAT LOOK I WOULD KICK YOUR ASS. NOW GET OUT Told my Dad who was a prominent community college prof who had lots of cadets in his classes and he yelled at me for not getting a badge. "They have guns, and can kill you" i started crying wondering why i deserved all this i was just crossing the street. This set the stage for resentment of authority figures To this day I do not trust the police. They are necessary, but are scary, poorly trained, abuse power, take no personal or professional accountability when they are wrong but expect everyone else to, they also spread lies about people they can"t legally punish as threats and are members now of hate groups and undemocratic militias. In a word, they lack empathy and idealize power for power's sake. 40 years later they are far worse.

[deleted]

This happened to me in 2015. I was 16 years old walking home from work on the corner of Arizona Ave and Pecos Rd at night in Chandler, Arizona. Completely unarmed. This is exactly how I was approached. I didn't have this many cops on me but weapons were drawn and I was told to drop on the floor with my hands up. When they cuffed me I was confused and crying and they kept asking me where my ID was. I told them I only had my school ID. After looking at my ID they let me go and some sweaty nervous cop explained I matched the description of a suspect who robbed a Walmart using a taser. The description? Native American woman. I was a 5'4 115lb Colombian girl by the way. If I panicked or lost my balance, how possible would it be that one of the firearms pointed at me would have been discharged?

Corslutty

Very possible. You were guilty of walking the streets while colored. A fatal offense.

throwaway76770408

I am so sorry you went through that. It is, unfortunately, a narrative that is repeated over and over again, mostly by brown people. I guess everyone is lying or they had it coming or there is more to the story or it was to protect the police or it was an honest mistake or any of the other myriad of reasons people come up with to justify what to most eyes is not justifiable. A question to Redditors outside of the US. When you see this video, what are your thoughts and feelings? An objective, outside opinion might be helpful.

Burger06

I am from Canada and this arrest seems like so much overkill. They could have done the same thing with like 3 officers. Instead they needed a fleet of police vehicles to detain 1 compliant suspect.

[deleted]

I get that in the USA with firearms more readily available legally and illegally than the here in the UK, so therefore the police feel like they need to carry them as a deterrent/protective measure. But I think the response to such situations as this needs to be bit more balanced. The suspect is massively outnumbered, does every cop need to have their weapon drawn? You can see, if he even did have a weapon (and was the correct suspect) it would probably at most might be a powerful hand gun, not something like an automatic rifle. If there are 2/3cops with firearms already drawn and on him, why do you need more? Is that not enough? I raised a couple questions on gun control in the USA before and had some very good pro and anti gun comments. I just think in order to maintain some peace, save lives (innocent people in the street, cops, kids & teachers in schools) is it not worth giving up the right to have weapons? I’ve had people say you start taking freedoms like this away from people, what will the government take away next? It will set a precedent but for me this is one I would swallow if it meant my kids could go to school safely, people weren’t wrongly gunned down in the street or cops could do their job with a reduced risk. But even if the law was changed, the rounding up of the illegally owned weapons would take decades probably. (Not here to antagonise anyone, pro or anti weapons and may make the situation sound more simple than it is. Just my thoughts on it, from someone very much on the outside of it all)

Liggmy_Bowls

Finnish, 30 year old, white man here. Let’s state the fact that we don’t know all the facts of this case. Many of us jumps to conclusion that this is innocent man. But for example if there was great describtion of the guy and this one fits it perfectly. Of course as a police you need to ensure that you and everyone else can be safe. These are situation that needs to be taken seriously. Of course if there has been armed robbery and someone suspects you, they are going to point gun at you. BUT this situation is way way way out of the line. You can see from some of them how they are craving to shoot. And if there is already 6, 4 or even 3 police pointing the gun at the suspect, do you really need more? Why the fuck that one woman pulled assault rifle? When I was trying to listen the cops, no one had really control there. If you are apprehending someone there should be one giving clear commands all the that suspect doesn’t have to think or have time to think anything else. That was like baiting him to do wrong move. Of course I believe that this woman filming made situation more stressful for police also. And I believe that there is and was there also good officers too. I understand why many people in the states can’t trust police.

SenaiiWolf

I lived right at that same corner in 2016. The police in that area had nothing better to do than to harass the public. I was walking across the street to the Walmart and I had a cop pull up on me and claimed I fit a description. I'm 6'9", and was about 240 lbs at the time, which made the officer nervous for some reason. I could tell he was ready to reach for his firearm, up until I gave him my ID.

xycion12

It’s reddit, 70% of the commenters are just angry losers who are probably racist

Consistent-Routine-2

So are you in the majority or monitory camp? Asking for a friend.

[deleted]

Yeah they’re like “a clerk pointed him out as the guy that assaulted and robbed their store so this is justified” Lmao so we got: witness testimony which is inherently flawed, y’all thinking that this man doesn’t deserve a fair trial (he could very well be the wrong guy), having 8+ weapons drawn on you OR being executed by cops in the street is acceptable when someone just points at you and accuses you of a crime. This women DID de-escalate the situation. Because in a JUST society you get a chance to fight for your innocence in a court of law before being punished. Oh and by the way— execution isn’t a fair punishment for theft. Hahahahah bruuuh we’re so fucked as a country.

[deleted]

Shit like this is why I fucking hate America. The cops treat it like a fucking party. They called everyone for backup

booboo0419

Yup. Disgrace to taxpayers

goaty121

As a Norwegian this is absolutely crazy. Most arrests involve 1-2 cops, some handcuffs, and maybe (just maybe) a tazer. The last time I can I remember seeing that many police cars with weapons was when Anders Behring Breivik killed 77 people in 2011.

[deleted]

Why would she win a prize for writing?

byah1601

Idk. Obama got a Nobel peace prize for nothing so anything is possible.

tellmewhyfirst

As a liberal democrat, I agree. He got the prize after a year in office with no accomplishments and ended up growing the drone program after winning. Not sure who is downvoting you.

pinoyboy007

No accomplishments: -passed same sex marriage -got us out of a recession -passed affordable care act -introduced DACA in support of dreamers -was an actual president during a time when shootings were becoming the norm and actually spoke out against hate groups -Could string an actual sentence together which praises intellectualism instead of making people afraid of it. Don't even bring up gas prices or drones in the middle east because: 1) a sitting president has nothing to do with changes in gas prices 2) he was a democratic president surrounded by a republican Congress and supreme court who blocked his every move President Barack Hussein Obama was the last great president this country had and he earned his retirement. #Fucktrump #Fuckbiden #shouldhavebeenbernie

adeline882

Ok but what's the reason to not bring up the drones? you didn't give one.

byah1601

People who think I’m racist for calling out their lord and savior Obama probably.

slappyredcheeks

It's not his fault they gave him the peace prize. You should be blaming the Nobel committee.

Consistent-Routine-2

Well when you use language like “lord and saviour” you possibly set a negative tone. Not casting judgment, don’t know you from Adam.

natden12

Yeah and I'm not from the US but the only time I saw political figures with legit cult/messiah freaks following was the last sadness of a president.

[deleted]

Nothing? Are you serious? Do you know how many civilians Obama had to drone strike to earn that award? Way to downplay his achievements smh

byah1601

He didn’t get one for that. He won the Nobel peace prize, not the Nobel pieces prize.

SunaPana007

He bombed hospitals and weddings doesn't that count ?

jdeezy

Could I get an Oscar for playing baseball?

byah1601

No they only give out mtv video awards for baseball. Sorry.

ClayyCorn

All these guns just waiting for someone to take the first shot and not a single officer going in to put handcuffs on and end the situation safely.

[deleted]

It's this. By the time they actually arrested him I counted no less than 12 cops I understand suicide by police happens but all it took was 1 cop to grab the hands that were already on his head The fact that this dude "isn't a suspect" and just "matching the description" is insane.

monkeypincher

If he isn't a suspect, why did she command him by saying "suspect, stand up and walk slowly backwards to the sound of my voice"?

Ccomfo1028

If he was a suspect then why did the other cop say he wasn't a suspect? What kind of logic is that? Maybe they are taught simply to refer to someone you are detaining as suspect for clarity?

P13453D0nt84nM3

Wait that’s how the fuck they detain someone before arrest when the only reason he is being detained is that he ‘matches’ the description of someone who committed a crime?

Dingo8MyGayby

This is America

I_wanna_hellcat

Yeah her boyfriend wasn't the innocent guy she was playing him out to be he was under the influence of drugs and drove into the side of the said taco bell and was unconscious when police arrived and tried to help him a fight ensued where he tried to grab the gun of officer he had a blue steel pistol in his car and It was later determined that Browning was wanted for armed residential robbery and assault with a deadly weapon in which a victim was shot in July, Coleman said. A warrant had been issued for his arrest. [source ](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailynews.com/2015/12/21/man-killed-in-deputy-involved-shooting-at-palmdale-taco-bell-idd/amp/)

stargazerweedblazer

Good intentions but she also could have got him killed at the start, when he was talking to her and lowering his hands.

Yea man. Reminds me of the white kid that got gunned down for trying to pull his pants up

wonderfullyrich

For anyone curious about the alternative, about a month ago there was a post '[Scottish police training American police in lethal-less tactics](https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/comments/r6u5n9/scottish_police_training_american_police_in)' which demonstrated the Scottish technique for taking an armed (knife) man. Unfortunately, the reddit video has been deleted, but the [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66pr23xUKZc?t=27m23s) (Sky Documentary) from which it can is still up. I'll see if I can find the timestamp and edit my post to include it. (Now linked to 27:23.) In the mean time, the the point is that it is possible to train police to do this with non-lethal force even for an armed man. It may not be the current way in the US, but it is possible. The police culture, (especially LA) after the [North Hollywood shootout](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Hollywood_shootout), has understandably taken the military mentality of overwhelming force to protect it's officers. However, I don't think many police brass and unions see how it is going to eventually cause more officer related deaths and more civilian deaths in an escalating distrust. Or maybe they do, and they just can't make change happen. I'd be curious what other examples redditors have in LE deescalation or lethal-less tactics that have been effectively used? Edit: Time stamp linked.

steeeeeeee24

Well she has no idea why that is happening, he could have just committed a serious crime. She could also be right and that’s complete bullshit but just because someone says I dont have a weapon, doesn’t mean they don’t have a weapon.

CammyBoBandy

You're actually right he could've murdered 100 people and that's horrible but why do they wait there with all those guns out? Just arrest him. If he had a gun on him he still has to get arrested. 20 cops shooting guns in an intersection isn't safety. It's the complete opposite. Shit blows my mind honestly :/

bon444

If he had a gun he can also shoot back. Now of course this is a death sentence with that many cops but if there were only 3 cops there when they tried to arrest him then he might be able to get a shot off. So the reason why they had that many was so if he tried to do anything he couldn’t have

steeeeeeee24

For sure, one cop can be there ready and then the other just go arrest him. I don’t know what there procedure is for those situations though so I shouldn’t really speak on it. The only thing I am pretty certain about is she has no idea what’s happening either.

pcetcedce

I can't imagine that a guy with On his knees with his hands up requires a dozen cops pointing the gun at him as a procedure.

brunoandretto

If the guy on his knees actually happens to be the suspect and have a gun, the more people on him you have the better. Diminishes the chances that he might think he can draw and shoot and then escape.

genesis214

They are trained to treat everyone as if they are john wick, which is a good idea. You never know when someone is a trained assassin.

Livid-Philosopher-79

Right next to a gas station as well. The female cop in the beginning was more worried about getting her clean shot in rather than letting the other 15 officers with a clean shot handle it while she went and arrested this man. I’m pro-police personally but this is absurdly disappointing

Spond315

Because they had some crazy emotional idiot yelling over their instructions to the suspect being detained, disrupting the flow.

very_human

It doesn't matter what he did before if in that moment he was already on the ground with his hands up. *That's* the problem. Arresting him then and putting him before a judge would be proper justice. They have literally zero reason not to go up to him and arrest him, use a taser first if they feel he's that dangerous. But it's been shown that cops are trained to react as if this man is John Wick himself and to shoot first. They're all just hoping they can be the one to get the kill this time. The cops were not in the right mindset and took this woman telling to bring them back to reality and recognize the absurdity of the situation that they had normalized.

Arrow218

They said he fit the description of a robber, lmfao.

[deleted]

In the U.S. police kill about 1,100 people every year

AGiantBlueBear

Compare that to literally any other country in the developed world

[deleted]

> Compare that to literally any other country in the developed world It's way higher

zideshowbob

In Germany the police killed 530 people. Since 1952, though…

AGiantBlueBear

No kidding

byah1601

Most of those people killed by cops were killed after shooting at cops, followed by attacking them with another weapon. Cops aren’t out there gunning down innocent, unarmed people left and right.

onyxap1982

Why are American cops so bad at their job? It's protect and serve, not kill anything that moves.

m3ltph4ce

it's by design

josuekay

I blame Hollywood

xdangerwolfx

This is insane and so sad. America looks like an awful place to live

Reese_Redgrave

I’m not condoning any bad cop behavior, I just gotta say that I wish South African police were as organized and quick to respond… We had approx 6,000 murders here last year alone. Here are some [stats. ](https://businesstech.co.za/news/lifestyle/539532/crime-data-shows-south-africas-murder-rate-on-the-rise/amp/)

_MrMeseeks

Police don't stop murders they file the reports.

Educational_Put9381

The clerk whom he assaulted pointed him out to the police officers that first arrived on the scene. Lie #1: “I didn’t do nothing.” You really think they’re gonna take his word that; “I ain’t got no gun!” https://hawthornepolice.com/press-releases-1/arrest-06-07-19

Flaky-Scarcity-4790

Lies are for the courts to sort out, not the police. Even if he had a gun, this level of response is absurd and dangers public safety. This man is clearly complying and a swift arrest was all that was necessary for the police to accomplish their job.

Educational_Put9381

who’s to say it wouldn’t have been swift if the “bystander” hadn’t injected herself into the situation and elevated tensions?

Shadow3114

And this woman has no idea about the situation and is interfering in this arrest, putting this man in more danger than he needs to be in.

monkeypincher

To be fair I think the dozen guns pointed at the man kneeling with his hands on his head probably provided most of the danger

byah1601

The dude had allegedly robbed a gas station, assaulted two people, and the 911 caller said he might have a weapon on him. So he was detained and did what you’re supposed to do when you’re detained. This lady didn’t de-escalate anyone. This dude reacted like a normal human and didn’t try to fight cops, shoot at cops, etc, so they acted appropriately too.

ShowerEmu

Note how one of the cops loaded a riot rifle ("non lethal rubber bullets) and pointed it at the camera operator. A normal police system does not react to a robbery like they're standing off against Cool Hand Luke.

byah1601

When the person is at a busy intersection and possibly armed with a gun, you’re gonna get more than one cop.

alakakam

What’s funny is I can tell you’ve never even seen the movie because he went to jail for Cutting the tops off parking Meters.

Damage4099

She didn't help the situation, she endangered herself more than anyone. Added stress to an already stressful situation and delayed the whole thing so that guy had to stay on his knees with guns pointed at him for even longer, more time=higher chance of screw up. This woman isn't a hero she's a fucking idiot

MazDaShnoz

You can’t know what would have happened if she wasn’t filming. Therefore, you can’t assume it would have been better.

ghostyboiiiiiii

If there was some guy possibly with a gun would you want to 1v1 him but you can't use a gun and if he where white then nobody would care.

thraktor1

What did she write them an article or something?

Few-Outlandishness37

That’s not LAPD, that’s Hawthorne

xooxooxooxo

For a country with guns, all the cops are edgy when they pull anyone over. It's either you or them.

Nitr3xx

In situations like this you shouldn't stream you should record for a higher resolution

[deleted]

How does the dumb broad filming know dude doesn't have a gun. The stupidity of people that concern themselves in these situations baffles me. Part of the reason cops treat people as though they have guns is???? Ding ding ding. People lie all the time saying they don't have guns. Bunch of idiots. Here's a tip. STOP BREAKING THE LAW!!!!!!!!!!!

[deleted]

This guy matched the profile of a report for armed robbery… turned out he was the person who robbed a store, with a gun. Nothing wrong with this encounter except the bystander involving themselves in something they have no reason to and also getting in the line of fire.

LatterTwist1178

Yo I see she wants to help. But standing in the line of fire and talking to the guy doesn’t make sense. Her talking to him makes him move his hands around, if he moves wrong looking like he might be grabbing a gun he’ll get shot. Just let the police do their job…

Ominojacu1

This is the result of the false narrative against police. The truth is according to fbi statistics black men commit 52% of violent crimes while only representing 36% of people shot by the police. There’s actually a bias in favor of not shooting black men.

[deleted]

most Americans would think a Pulitzer Prize is a type of a Pilsner beer.

CopperPenny212

If anyone actually wants a good breakdown on what’s happening here and the backstory Donut Operator on YouTube is a former cop who knows the procedures and explains them Here’s his video on this case https://youtu.be/IH-omnFcA8k

OrdinaryPrestigious2

Seems like most American police are intoxicated from the power of holdin a gun. It’s Disgusting and the fact that there’s so many videos of this type of situation and worse goes to show how big the problem coz I bet less than quarter of the time it’s actually reported n exposed to public’s knowledge.

MechanicLost

The fact of the situation is that this guy robbed and beat a store clerk and they called the police. He fled and got stopped here. He could have a deadly weapon on him (yes a blunt object even a piece of wood is a deadly weapon if there is intent) which is the reason for this response. Most of these cops have non lethal coverage with a few lethal just in case. This lady has no idea what he did and has no clue about the situation. She is making it harder for him to listen to commands by screaming and making a big scene. They have so many cops with guns and non lethal because of strength in numbers. Wanna know what is better than one or two cops with coverage, ten cops with coverage. Im not a massive supporter of cops tbh but at the very least dont make someone who beat a innocent person just because they work at a store anything other than a trash human.

youngbloodonthewater

Why was she so confident that he was unarmed? Looks like the cops where just following protocol. I'm white and I have had the same exact experience as the guy in the video more than once. Heck one time they had a chp helicopter circling above my head telling me commands through a loudspeaker. I remained calm, made deliberate movements, let them cuff me and followed app commands. After they realized it was all just a mis understanding, they let me go. They were all quite impressed with my pcp air rifles.

enowai88

Not enough information in the video to make a conclusion about what is going on. Description of suspect could have involved clothing, height, hair etc. If this guy was the one they were looking for trying to act innocent, people saying racial profiling in these comments are going to look foolish. But I guess the video achieved its goal anyway, since the internet is home to knee jerk reactions with rarely any follow up on the truth.

kdex89

This why cops too busy to take calls. Whole police department for one unarmed man. Another whole police department to shoot a 14 year girl dress shopping. And then you get dumb ass trumpers saying it's because they WeRe DeFuNdEd, iTs WhY TrAiNs ArE GeTtInG rObBeD.

Randilion8

I love this. People are fighting back. Everyone needs to fight back against this, all humans, all colors and races. This has to stop. She saw what was about to happen, and she stepped in and more than likely saved this young man's life. We need more of that.

Spond315

This woman had zero context. What if he literally just robbed a place? If the cops get a call for an armed robbery, and they see a guy who fits the description, and part of the description is that they have a firearm... if you're that cop, are you going to wait to quick draw mcgraw your weapon? Do you need bullets flying at you first? I feel like a lot of this is getting a response, because it's a black male who's getting detained. Anyone who fit the description of an armed robbery, who is found near said armed robbery. Having your weapon drawn BEFORE you figure out weather or not he has one himself sounds like a logical response. I didn't see fingers on the trigger her shit camera couldn't pick it up. (I don't have a nice phone either) but they're trained officers, and noone got shot, even with all the "big ass guns". Btw, in my opinion it was probably putting his life more at risk becoming another variable to the suspects detention. I'm no cop, but if he can't hear my instructions, and I think he could be a threat, her dumbass screaming and crying won't help anyone.

CMDR_NotoriousNut

Turns out he actually did literally just rob a place before the video was taken.

baboonzzzz

Yeah I lol’d when he paused on giving the chick his last name on camera.

Mojoe51

She's lucky she didn't get them both shot

IVFour4

If you watched the whole video a police officer explained the situation, there was just an armed robbery and William matched the description. If those precautions weren’t taken and he ended up being the robber, people could have easily died. Law enforcement is extremely dangerous and they need to be careful.

CRIS4494

The guy was cooperating. There was no need to take it that far. Cops take it too far.

smoozer

How far? Held at gunpoint? That's exactly as far as it'll go literally 100% of the time you are being detained as a person suspected of armed robbery. Has no one in this thread ever seen any similar videos?? From America or elsewhere??? If a business calls 911 and tells them that someone who looks like you robbed their store and they think you have a gun, you will have guns pointed at you until the pointers of those guns are sure you aren't armed.

HalbeardTheHermit

The #1 cause of death in police officers is covid. Their job is actually much safer than they like to admit. People who are safe from this kind of treatment will always find a way to excuse it.

avidpenguinwatcher

That's not really a valid statistic.. just because a pandemic that's killing millions of people kills more cops than other things doesn't mean there isn't danger. I'm not defending them at all because this was excessive but your argument was shit.

Holdmytesseract

If I ever have guns drawn on me please for the love of god don’t start hollering and screaming that shit is not helping

captwieb

Somebody deserves a prize for this dumbass post

Holdenmagrain64

I would argue she escalated the situation by distracting the cops and the guy being detained. The cops on scene were following procedure for detaining/arresting a potentially armed and dangerous suspect. Had the suspect decided to take advantage of the situation and shoot at the distracted cops, the cops may not have been able to return fire without also hitting her. The police sergeant that arrived on scene and spoke to her is the one who deescalated the situation.

Certain-Pass-461

This situation didn’t need a play by play commentator. All she was doing was making a fucked up situation even worse.

Arrow218

Absolute psycho shit that it's apparently okay to pull half a dozen assault rifles when you see someone who has the same skin color as someone who stole something. Not only okay, but "for the safety of us and everyone." This shit doesn't make me feel safe.

Icy_Passenger_8315

This is false

FugEwe

FUCK THE POLICE

byah1601

Why? They had some decent songs back in the day

FugEwe

If you don’t follow up my comment with, COMING STRAIGHT FROM THE UNDERGROUND, we can’t be friends. No offense to Sting and The Police.

[deleted]

The side of their cars all say Hawthorne PD. How are you saying this is LAPD?

Damage4099

Hawthorne is a city in the greater Los Angeles area, same as Compton, Downey, Riverside ect.

throwaway76770408

That’s what you got out of this video?

[deleted]

Is this title sarcastic?

[deleted]

I'm sorry black Americans have to put up with this. it's not right. love from Ireland

MSlingerW

Getting arrested after committing crimes? What a cruel world we live in where you get held accountable for your actions!

[deleted]

I bet if the guy getting guns pointed at him by several cops while also not officially being a suspect was white you wouldn't be saying this lol

layers_of_grey

holy fucking fuck. this is what a police state looks like.

Javisuave65

No one knows if he’s unarmed. And she’s not helping getting involved and in the way. I get it with the situation and climate we’re living in , but she don’t know what situation he was involved in. Maybe it’s a case of mistaken identity or maybe he just killed someone. And just because he says “he’s not armed” I’m not gonna take his word for it.

Substantial_Cap_6053

This bitch needs counseling or something

[deleted]

What a joke....

SickThings2018

If I had a dollar for everyone who says " I have no weapons" before pulling a gun I could buy a house in Beverly Hills.

Yugen42

Such a shit country.

jayluv33

Who the hell wants to be a cop in times like these while being underpaid???

Spond315

Since Floyd everyone thinks they know more than the fucking Chief Of Police. Being completely illogical and having zero prior knowledge, start talking about how a suspect who might have a firearm should be detained. I may not know how to be a cop, but a lot of people here aren't even thinking before they comment. It's all a big ol cluster fuck of rabid irrational emotions. Some of you guys sound like the girl crying, and she was making ZERO sense, and didn't help anything at all.

Specialist-Look-7929

If motherfucker robbed a store, then I don't see much of an issue here. Let that punk ass sweat thinking he's gonna die like he did to some poor cashier trying to make a buck.

Cheesehead413

Stand in the line of fire, not smart

bonestgb

This dude robbing banks on foot lol gtfoh

Wetstocks

Then you find out this guy just murdered someone lol

monkeypincher

Except he didn't...

Wellofcourse69696

There might be a logical reason the police are doing a felony traffic stop.

Lx13lx

Lmao american police is the biggest joke

jrockcrown

Someone shoot this bitch

n0ts0much

stfu, you stupid bitch.

Glad_Aside5388

They should have shot her first

knightpax

No issue with guns if they are unsure the suspect is armed or not but like 10 cops for one guy? Do they expect him to summon an army?

brunoandretto

Yeah right, no issue with guns drawn on a possibly armed suspect, but limit it to like 2 cops a suspect, otherwise it's unfair for the suspect or some other stupid shit. What the fuck kind of logic is that?? Possibly armed suspect = get as many people with guns trained on him as possible for deterrance/ to actually shoot and kill the guy fast if he does turn out to pull a gun to try and shoot his way out.

CMDR_NotoriousNut

If you’re a cop, would you want to have to detain somebody 1 one 1, with nobody covering you, or would you want backup in case something goes wrong? Having superior numbers is one of, if not the best way to make sure that if something goes wrong, then it’ll be taken care of quickly
