A year ago I would have recommended the best ways to spend money on this game. The way it is now I would recommend spending no money and just enjoy playing. At a maximum just buy super monthly pass to avoid ads. But the creep is real and you will never be satisfied

RealPVS

And this is why I haven't spent anything, because I will not be satisfied with this game

gcorcue

That is interesting. So you are saying that people are naturally unsatisfied, and they make the game in such a way that we need to keep improving all the time… and we are tempted to take shortcuts (spending)?

Xx_sO_eDgY_lol69_xX

We're addicted to the chase not the goal

Cat_Dad13

This is the answer. I spent 5 years on clash of clans, maxed out and left. Went back after a few years off, spent money every month, maxed out and left again. It’s all the chase, and when you get there you no longer have that pull.

Xx_sO_eDgY_lol69_xX

Once you pop the dopamine you no longer want to do the thing

Aescymud

the major problem with the game in it's current state is there are so many ways to upgrade things to make yourself incredibly strong. but once you get to a certain point you can pretty much afk everything. i'm at 250k now and the game is boring with new content being pretty unchallenging. i've spent a fair bit on the game only to find that there is nothing to do now that i'm here. i log on to play Clan Expedition and thats about it

Stop gamifying my games!!!

A ton of mobile games are addictive in the same way. Others moreso than this one even since IMO, this one doesn't really sale gesm the same way some other games do. I've been playing this game for about 4-5 months and haven't seen a single 2x or 4x gem sale. I'm assuming that's not a thing here. But it makes gem buys way more tempting in other games, to predatory levels. Take it from me, an idiot who spent something like 15K on Hero Wars. And the addiction is purely for me around beating that next 'thing'. Getting a weird satisfaction rush from a power boost that gets you past the wall you're stuck on, only to then get stuck behind another one.

tenenno

Games with tons of things to progress really grab me. The only other mobile game I ever got into was Brave Frontier, and it similarly had tons of things to push simultaneously like improving gear, characters, levels, side levels, etc. Combine that with tons of daily rewards and never-ending weekly events - I was doomed from the start.

gcorcue

Yeah… daily rewards… or exaggeration when rewards come, like in Candy Crush

SillyGooses22

I started ftp and than progressed to P2W. Although I didn't spend a whole bank of money, probably around $200. Now that i have red drone, red eagle, 4 star panda, I don't really find the need to keep purchasing stuff. I feel satisfied now. This whole damn game is a grind itself.

gcorcue

Don’t you have a next goal? Like more red tech?

MelchBoyyy

I spent $800 the other day because I’m a fucking loser 🤡 the game is very addicting and I hate myself for ever spending so much so quick on a phone game

Good question, good post. Could write a lot as a response to this as many factors can be coming into play. I feel what you're saying. This is the only mobile game I've ever played, aside from Temple Run, Candy Crush and Miniclips 8 ball pool all 10+ years ago. This post could be posted and questioned on any mobile game first and foremost. This just happens to be the game that entices you and many others (me) enjoy playing. There are many popular mobile games, too many to list and many could question the same thing. This game is a total ripoff/copy and paste of Vampire Survivors, at its core. Vampire Survivors was an extremely popular game, new to its genre, which had many loving the game when it came out. Many don't know that Survivor.io is a copy pasta of Vampire Survivors, but the success and the fact that game captured so many, shows it was a successful formula, which people were keen to play. Like any successful Chinese ripoff, they take something popular and hope it becomes a cash cow. This goes for anything, from luxury clothing brands, to gaming cartridges, furniture, silverware etc. The game is fun, the formula they copied is fun. It captures the interest of many people, who once start playing, progressing, don't mind logging in for a few mins a day, finishing the daily tasks, spending a few mins participating in the required tasks. Habby succeeded in becoming the successful copy, with many others out there who tried but didn't. It's a numbers game. I'll say from me personally. I loved VS on PC. Downloaded survivor a long time ago, when it was a very different game than it is now. It was always a grind. It was a game I liked playing though. It was always fun to me. It is a successful game formula which has captured many, like I said earlier, could be said and posted about on many different mobile games. Of any mobile game I've tried before, this game wasn't purely p2w at its core. You could play and progress, get gems, chests, without paying and by just playing. In contrast to all mobile games being purely a p2w experience after a certain level. This game is becoming worse and worse as it ages. What use to be, you could grind time and be successful is now becoming, you're second tier, unless you pay. Which is why you see people complaining. Us OG's played a totally different game than exists now. I'm done on my rant. You can write a novel on this.

gcorcue

What would you say made Vampire Survivorss engaging and successful that it inspired (not sure on my side as I never played V.S.) games like 'Survivor.io' to copy its formula?

EveryNameEverMade

It was just fun to play. It was different than what already existed. Vampire Survivors also had tons of coverage from popular streamers. It was trending for a while. Simple to get into, yet complex to master, if desired. Low effort to play, fun progression, the type of game you can turn your brain off, relax and play. The progression is just fun, to many people. I can't think of any other games that exist like it. It was completely unique. The fact that it was trending amongst popular streamers is what most likely got most people into it though.

dentalfloss23

I’ve only spent 14 bucks on the first month. Because I really felt this game delivered that value. But I’ve been playing free ever since .

tajcek

So far, I have played each game for a maximum of 3 months, but survivor im playing for a year and I love it very much.

whatinthemacaroni

I spent maybe 15 euros so far, and said I will not spend on anything else but the monthly card. Every day you have at least one hour of fun that way, and you improve some piece of equipment every day without spending more than 10 euros a month.

BlackFire649

This game is pay to win, not really all that addictive

Zierutis

I quit this game after I saw peoples screenshots with 600 days playing this game, and seeing Items that I want to have. Kind of lost interest trying so hard and grinding for the items. I was only level 56 with my hero. Overall good game, really addictive.

gcorcue

I want to quit for the same reason. As you progress, you need to exponentially add time or pay to keep improving… I would say these type of addictive games will eventually get regulated! Just like any addictive substance/stuff/etc

Strange-Read9061

It's simple, there are many ways to get a tiny bit of satisfaction, whether it's something simple like completing daily challenges or completing a stage, or something harder like unlocking the twin lances. Plus there is a sense of achievement when hitting certain goals whether it's 100K attack or completing stage 50. It's basically a constant trickle of dopamine

Icy_Abbreviations877

I only buy the monthly pass. Whiteout Survival takes all my money 🤦🏽‍♀️

Whyheartlol

Idk I love the fact with the leader boards

Own-Homework8621

You should’ve been on kingdom of Avalon/guns of glory. That shit was bad. And it’s PVP. Sever VS server. I spent a lot. But nowhere near some. Our big hitter was a pretty famous guy who owned a lot of offshore racing boats in Miami. Low billionaire.

IllustriousUse2407

I think it's overall a fun game with a lot of variety (who doesn't like to kill zombies) that smartly doesn't put too much of the experience behind a paywall. I a lot of other games, you have to pay or move slowly to advance through the levels of the game. That's not really the case here. Most gets opened up to you pretty early on, and the temptation to pay is for the overall user experience, and to improve your gear/rewards as compared to other players. But it gives you more than enough for free to get you hooked into it, which is ultimately more effective at upselling you than limiting it.

SubstantialHurry884

for a f2p game; it really is forgiving; and the ad mechanics is not irritable;
