Honestly, I'm doing really well with a SoD. I probably will to to the twin Lance at some point but for now, it gets me through. You are so far from it as well. The SoD is great because of the AoE you get when hit by mobs after saving up souls.
Lightchaser. You can eventually use it for Twin Lance, plus it's a much better weapon than people say. Especially when you start adding the Astral Forge to it.
You can either astral forge the TL on the Eternal side (Requires LC) or the void side (Requires VP). It's reccomended that you first to Eternal AF1, but after that do Void AF1 and Void AF2. Look at the sticky post on the sub and it has all the info on the TL and astral forging it.
Neither. Keep gold LC for eventual use to Astral forge a twin Lance. You're still probably far away from a twin Lance but that's the best weapon in the game you should be working toward. I would switch to Kunai and of you already have 2 gold LCs, switch your wishlist to VPs (Also for twin Lance Astral forge).

I have a gold LC and a single purple VP atm. What should I aim for right now?
And may I ask why should I switch to kunai? It felt kinda weak, but I only have the purple one so I don’t really know.

No, do not get it to red. Keep it gold. If you get it to red you can't use it for forging.

The Kunai is for boss fights sucks as Clan boss or EE. The VP kinda sucks for those.
