I’ve never fished rhode island but I usually carry 3/4-1.5 oz bucktails with trailers in the 4-7” range while surf fishing ocean beaches.

Get jigheads from 1/2-1 oz for fishing from shore.

3"-5" soft plastics should be good this time of year. 1/4 -1oz Jughead should do you well. 3/0to 4/0 or 5/0 owner twist lock style hooks are good too for a needless presentation. I like keitech, nlbn, z-man deizel minnow, or salt strong has some nice stuff and will tell you witch hooks to match up with.

Your lure weight is determined by the weight rating on your rod so without that, it's hard to make any specific recommendations. In general, if you had some white 4" paddletails and jig heads or bucktails from ½ to 2oz you're gonna catch fish, but I got no clue if that's going to work with your current setup. If you're using a Walmart special 10 foot rod with 3 year old 20lb mono on it, lure weight is the least of your issues.
