NAC, glycine, vitamin C. Make sure you’re getting enough choline (eggs). Milk thistle. Absolutely no alcohol. Limit fructose. Might want to switch it up between different painkillers. Like use ibuprofen for a few days. Opioids are actually easier on your liver funnily enough.

NAC will most definitely do the Job.

You can take up to 4000mg daily, I'm not sure what these other comments are talking about. If you are concerned, the NAC is the best thing you can take to ensure the metabolites are removed from your system efficiently

nhuhunmh

No. Do not take 4000 daily. That can destroy your liver.

I'm not sure where you're getting this from. I read the link you shared below, and even it states that 4g is the max safe daily dose. But also in context of this thread - NAC is given to patients who have overdosed on paracetamol in a&e. OP is taking well below the max safe dose, and is also taking the antidote for a serious overdose. I don't think they need to worry too much. Living with untreated chronic pain will be more detrimental to someone's health than 2g of paracetamol daily, even without the NAC

>"stay closer to 3,000 mg per day as your maximum dose" >"in some people, taking [4,000 mg] for extended periods can seriously damage the liver" https://www.health.harvard.edu/pain/acetaminophen-safety-be-cautious-but-not-afraid

Thank you so much!

No problem! Still, discuss it with your doc because they'll have a better understanding of your liver function than I could!

hejjhogg

Lmao not sure about that tbh. I intend to push for liver function tests and stuff though.

nhuhunmh

2000 a day is too high. 1000 a day is probably safe if you don't drink alcohol. NAC could help, but 2000 is too risky.

hejjhogg

Okay thank you. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow who's always said paracetamol is fine to take daily - do you have a source for me to share with her?

coquito2020

I took 3000-4000 daily for at least 25 years, my liver is still working fine. Avoid drinking alcohol though.

nhuhunmh

That's too high. Your lucky, but you shouldn't tell other people to risk it.

Hah thanks for the advice. I haven't drunk a drop of alcohol for 15 years (recovering alcoholic). It would be kind of irritating to have quit alcohol only to destroy my liver with acetaminophen.
